I have recently rooted my Fire, and I was wondering, is there any possible way to remove the taskbar at the bottom without installing an entirely new rom? I already have Button Savior installed so that it would still be possible to use the Fire. I'm wondering because it's causing resolution glitches in apps such as NOVA, and is just getting to be a general annoyance.
I'm wondering the same, how to get rid of kindle fire softkeys?
I have a Kindle Fire HD myself, just rooted it through the most excellent guide for Qemu auto root....whatever that thing was called. My thanks. My issue is similar. Using Nook Color tools I was able to get Swiftkey3 tablet working pretty flawlessly except for one minor issue. When in landscape swiftkey doesn't know there's a softkey toolbar on the right side so I almost can't use the letter 'p' because half of that key is under the toolbar. It's not really a major problem, mostly a cosmetic thing. My guess would be the only perfect solution to this would involve decompiling swiftkey and editing it so that when it draws itself in landscape mode it takes in mind the presence of the softkey toolbar (or relocates it) and draws accordingly. Anybody know of any way short of that I could get a perfect rendering in landscape mode. I do want to keep the softkey bar, actually. That is my only problem with it.
bump! I still have this issue, does anyone have a solution almost a year later?

My kindle device is rooted and set up with go launchers HD for tablets. Theres seems to be lots of glitches. My screen orientation is stuck on horizontal even thou i repeatedly have done the gesture to unlock screen orientation. It too glitches between horizontal and vertical eveytime i hit the home key, ultimately to fix itself on horizontal despite the position the device is really being held. Also, i cant get any other widgets other than go launcher widgets to work. I have installed beautiful widgets and it doesn't have an option to place widget on home screen. I have too installed htc gingerbread in hopes it would lay the platform for regualr HTC/google widgets to no avail. Was posting to see if anyone else was having these kinds of problems and if there were any solutions.. Thanks
Hello
One thing make me crazy using surface. In landscape mode, I have taskbar on the left side. It give me easy access to program with thumb and it don’t use much space... but when I switch surface to portrait mode for reading or note taking, it take too much space on the left....
So here comes my solution small program that can change taskbar auto hide property based on screen rotation.
You can change if taskbar auto hide or don’t in landscape or portrait mode , and you can mark this program to start automatic on startup
Feel free to use it and share it please leave comment of what you thing about this utility and what more you want
Cool! Doesn't work on the RT though, even thoughit looks like it should (.NET, AnyCPU target). I may hook it up to a debugger for some investigation. Thank you for including the source!
I love this utility! I've actually been unsuccessfully looking for something to do exactly this for a few weeks, and I stumbled on this when I wasn't looking for it.
There's one minor issue I seem to be having with it. If I restart my computer, wait for all the programs to load up (including yours, which is set to run at startup), the program is running, but doesn't have any effect on the status of the taskbar -- the taskbar simply maintains the last state it was in before I restarted the computer: autohide or not -- it doesn't change with orientation. If I exit the program and restart it, it performs as it's supposed to.
In short whenever I restart my Surface Pro (and sometimes when waking from sleep) I have to restart the program to get it to continue working properly.
Great utility by the way!
EDIT: It doesn't fail to respond every time I start and shut down, but it seems to happen whenever I restart with the Surface Pro still in portrait mode. I just tried it with it in landscape mode and it worked fine.
Hello
Many thansk for using this utility, I
nearly forgot that i post it public. I know about this issiu and after finals i have plans to fix this but unfortunetly some problem with position senzor shows up on my surface pro ( like in this blog surfacetablethelp.com/2013/06/surface-pro-simple-device-orientation-sensor-not-working-or-disconnected.html#comment-16957 but whit no android thing )
So soon as i fix this and have woring chang. oriantation i will wok on this utility
Are you still working on it?
A nice feature would be to have the bar always on the same (physical) side of the screen.
For example to save space: Having it on the left side in portrait and as soon as the orientation changes it will now be on the bottom.

There are at least two people looking for solutions (as was I) and I stumbled upon the answer looking for something else. The program they are looking for sounds like Taskbar shuffler in the tabletpcreview forum. I cant post it to make these people super happy, as I don't have 10 posts. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated, and I would be super happy.

The links don't work. Does the one to tabletpcreview have a way to move the taskbar when the screen rotates?

Again thanks for using this utility. Orientation sensor on surface suddenly start working after ages of malfunctions so i was able to fix some bugs and add one new feature
So let me introduce v2:
-fixed bug when auto hide wasn't initialize after reboot.
-added feature to move task bar based of screen orientation.
Since changing task bar orientation isn't possible via API since windows vista, i am using some way of "bay pas". Program start task bar property windows. Switch focus on it and emulate keystrokes ( tabs for moving between options, arrows for switching orientation, enter for submit changes ) ... and i cant bele it .. it work :fingers-crossed:
So fell free to test it and post any comment and feedback
Dude, that's awesome. I haven't tested it extensively, but from brief usage, it puts the taskbar at the bottom on portrait and on the left in landscape. Exactly what I want. Thanks!
It still working in win10.. Thanks,
As mentioned in threatname i am looking for a navbarmod which sets the navbar on the right instead to the bottom when in landscape like on a phone. i don´t have got alienthumbs to get to middle of the screen to press the homebutton. would like to have it on the side if possible always on the buttom side of the tablet
i know this could be a disadvantage for gamers, but for 80% of the daily users this might be a senseful idea

If you have rooted ur device, i recommend GoodMoodDroid's "Auto Hide Soft Keys", available thru PlayStore. It works on stock ROM. Besides hiding the nav bar, it has the nice effect of resizing it and putting it on the right hand when turning the device into landscape mode.
Regrettably i don't know another way, when u are not rooted.
of course i have my phone rooted xD but i´d like to get it out of the box without 3rd application on the side
still looking for a good solution.
hmm maybe if you use PA hybrid properties and change to stock/phone UI you'll get the nav bar at the right side.. not sure about that though
On Paranoid Android, if i set it to phone UI then the navbar is on the side. This does change some other things I didn't like about the UI but it might be what you want
Hello there!
This is a problem that I've had for a while. Ever since I got this tablet, to be precise (3 days after it released; I have the Wi-Fi only version). I tried to give it a fair chance, but I think I've given it enough time to be able to say that I don't like it. The problem is that my dock bar never rotates to the bottom of the screen like it should when I flip the tablet to landscape mode, which is what I have it set in 99% of the time (the last 1% being because an app or something forces me into portrait mode). I can't seem to find anything to make it go to the bottom and I've searched this forum and Google for a solution but I didn't find anything. The few threads that I did find dealing with this problem suggested a different launcher, but when I tried it, the dock bar was still on the side of the screen. How can I make it go back to the bottom? When I had the 1st gen Nexus 7, I never had this problem.
ROM: ParanoidAndroid 3.99 RC2
Kernel: Franco Kernel
Launcher: Apex
Thanks in advance!
Is this a unique problem?
Anyone have a solution?
Is this a 4.3 problem?
It means that the rom/launcher does not have 'Tablet Mode' enabled for the homescreens. I am not sure how to get what you are asking for, but it is acting like everyone elses and you don't have a defect of any kind.
Yes, I know it's been brought up quite a bit...
This is really bugging me. I had the original Kindle Fire and put ICS on it and loved it. The Honeycomb-style user interface rocks. I bought a Nexus 7 thinking that I'd be able to put it into that mode with KitKat (the point of owning the Nexus # is to have the latest and greatest, right?), but have found myself unable to do so.
Is there any way possible to enable this on 4.4? I'm running into a gap on this discussion; most stopped talking about it about a month ago it seems. AOKP? Do I have to copy and paste the tablet UI code from 4.2 into 4.4?
This is Android. ANYTHING is possible. I know it has the potential to be done.

I was under the impression that google removed the tablet UI from kitkat altogether.
I thought I wasn't going to like the phablet UI but I got used to it, and now it just makes sense to me on a tablet this size. I say give it a chance, you might grow to like it.
I hate it, i'm forever catching the navbar when typing in landscape or passing the device to a friend because of thin bezel, it'd better located on it's side in the same portrait position next to the shortcuts & apps drawer button.

I do agree with this. When in landscape it is in the most inconvenient place possible. I would love a way to force it to remain on the right side but I haven't been able to find a solution other than setting the whole tablet into phone UI mode which then messes with the notifications shade.
If you're only problem is the nav bar, try GMD auto hide soft keys. It works great.

I tried that, not really what I'm looking for. I don't want something that overlays the navbar and hides it when not in use, I want a permanent navbar that just stays on the right side of the screen. With GMD even if I turn auto hide off, it will still hide it when I rotate the screen, and when I swipe to bring it up it always covers part of my dock icons.
Have you tried gravity box xposed module? It gives you the ability to run pie. Or if that's not your thing in navigation bar tweaks it has an always on the bottom feature. It shouldn't be too difficult to make it always on the "short side".Why not ask the Developer in his thread ?

I've used the pie before on my gnex and it was OK. I might give it a shot. Android is starting to feel quite dumbed down lately...

Yep, I use GB on all my devices. I use PIE + expanded desktop when I want to game in full screen. The always on bottom tweak isn't what I'm looking for either. I want it to remain on the right in landscape. I appreciate the input though.

No probs. The part about keeping the navigation on the "short side". I meant on the right (Short Side). It`s worth asking the developer surely
CM10+ and PA had the tablet UI I though and you could pit it on the right hand side. I'm not sure if this applies with the newest KitKat builds though.
