Hi i have a nexus lte version, and i just began flashing roms and kernels. I am currently on gummynex 0.4.7 with franco kernel #11 --I love customization but i think i prefer the best battery life possible. If this kind of thread has been created i apologize if i did not search enough. If you can re-direct me to the thread i'd appreciate it, if not what are your guys thoughts...because i find myself flashing everything.....
there are like 5 other threads asking this same question. read the other forums for more feedback because they have been populated with 2+ pages with suggestions.
my personal suggestion is AOKP build 15 + latest franco kernel
AOKP offers a "power saver" mode... the best battery tip i can tell you is to disable 4G LTE.. enable it when you really need the speed. LTE is a huge drain

Ok so you can dump this tread if I am wrong but I am very confused about the kernels out there, I am just trying to get a good stable CM 6 phone with everything working and decent battery life. All the kernel's in this forum seem to be either abandoned or not working correctly.
Can anybody help me with a suggestion on what kernel to use?
So far I tired SNAP, and savage but both made my phone reboot after a few min. I also have hardware version 3 so not sure that it makes a difference, I am just confused and was hoping for some direction.

use the stock kernel
Sure that is fine is that the best one overall, I hear everywhere that kernel makes a huge difference in battery life and speed.
If stock it he best then I will stick with that.
+1 stock...
savage 1.6 CFS does good on my phone on cm6 and even better on cm7
getting 24 hrs with moderate usage. might be the gingerbread
I am going to try CM7 becuase I keep getting reboots now with stock cm6 not sure why anybody have any clue why this would be. I downloaded CM6 from rom manager and then flashed with RA recovery after a full wipe and dalvik wipe as well then just the rom, also having a wireless issue where remembered networks are not connecting without a on and off of the wifi all together.
Also what version of CM7 do you use and where did you get it I don't see it on the forums here.
I've looked through previous posts and my question is:
if I'm using the CM7 nightly builds, why would I want to use 2.6.37.6-incredikernel or the latest incredikernel instead of the one that Cyanogenmod sends along with their rom? I've noticed a lot of folks are on nightlies but use different kernels, so I'm confused. Could someone please help me? I've figured out the radios and done tests for my area and selected the radio that gives me the best reception, but I'm unclear on the kernel thing. My Dinc would be greatful.
different kernels have different features of control. biggest difference between them are "governors" which are different types of CPU scaling. custom kernels also sometimes provide methods of undervolting and overvolting to save battery power without creating instability
ok Per the "noob video" i called my mom and told her that she wasnt lying to me when she told me i was not special, but I do have a problem with this kernal let me explain
1. Which kernel build(s) (ie; bfs/cfs havs/nohavs etc) are you using with the issue?
2. What Rom are you using?
3. If known, what OTA base is your rom using (ie; is it based on 3.29, 3.30, 3.70, etc)?
4. Does the issue persist if you go back to a stable kernel build?
5. The issue being experienced (obviously ;D)
1. netarchy-toastmod-cfs-havs-nosbc-universal 4.3.1
2. Cyanogen 7
3. unknown
4. cant get back to a stable kernel
5. I am seeing pixilated lines on key pressed and slides. What I mean is when I press an icon or slide my phone or look at my battery charging it will distort a minor annoyance. Also my usb connection is no longer working it will not let me toggle between charge and disk drive
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't netarchy a kernel for a sense rom and not an aosp?
Edit - just double checked, its for a sense based rom only..
If using cm7, I would suggest tiamat or savaged zen..
you cant use that kernel with CM7. flash tiamat 4.0.5 or any other AOSP kernel. NA kernels are for sense ROMS only.
Your mom did tell you correctly because this did not belong in the dev section.
That kernel is for sense not aosp.
Use tiamat or Savaged zen or "God mode"
OH WOW Guess that is why lol. I thought I read it to say it was usable by many roms. So just flash the stock kernel and use one of the ones echarette1, and mattykinsx posted. Thanks you 2 for telling me that i messed that up.
And alaman68 I thought since it was related to that kernel I coul have posted in that kernels thread. Guessed wrong.

It would have been appropriate to post IN the kernel thread but not a new thread.
I'm NOT trying to join the backseat moderatoring wagon, just letting you know.

Oh no trust me I would not have started a brand new thread I would have tacked it on to the thread that contains the kernel and the information. I am not a forums noob and know that much. And I did not take your letting me know as a "better than you" context, but just wanted to tell why I thought posting in that thread would have been better. Nothing mean intended by you or me just helping in how to keep the board clean you were.
Now on to another question. Currently my Evo is giving me a battery life of ~5 hours before I hit ~15% and being in a job where I am constantly using my phone I can not afford to be attached to a charger for 3 hours a day. I was told by a friend that using kernels will help with battery life. If this is the case out of the ones I was told to use what would be better in terms of extending the life of my daily battery, if that is something they can in fact do?
If you're running CM7, use the Tiamat or SavagedZen kernel, hit the link in my signature for some good tips on battery conditioning and links to better battery guides.
Thank you to everyone who helped me figure out what I did wrong and thank you HipKat for that link going to read it now
Tell me your guys favorite ROM and why, I don't have a favorite, i usually flash the newest ROMs that are released, right now i'm on slimbean 3.1.1
If I had to pick it would either be the PACMAN ROM because of all the customization, or cyanogenmod because they're so stable.
Best ROM for battery Life?
My current favorite is onlychevys unofficial slim bean 3.1.0. Great battery life for me. I was unaware of a 3.1.1 version where did you get it?

i use infamous resurrection 2.0. it's not exactly fast and it is not pack with features i'd like, but it is stable for my daily uses. CM ROMs and similar ROMs contain so many nice features, but they lacks wifi-calling. that's an essential feature as my phone cannot pick up any cell reception once i'm inside my school. Jedi Mindtrick and jediknight, for some reason unknown to me, do not work well on my phone. it'd constantly force restarts.
I am currently using Avatar ROM. I have zero problems with it ATM. Been a daily driver for about 3 weeks now. Nice that I can update it from GOO as well. Its compact, and the battery life is great. I'm using the Cerux kernel. Once installed, it will prompt you to d/l a kernel tuner from the app store. Great way to monitor and change your cpu speeds. Also give you the ability to change what govenors run with what core. Can set the primary core to on demand and have the second core turn on when the first core is getting a heavy load, and the second core can be on performance so nothing slows down. Its very stable, especially with the GO Launcher. Lots of customizations you can do to it. And it comes with a theme engine already installed on the ROM. Hope that helps.
Avatar rom
Hi how are you, I saw that you were talking about the avatar rom. I've been trying to get it for a while and it doesn't want to install in my phone and I don't have any clue of why. I have a Koodo Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989D, please do you have any advice for my?
XD: the root installs very well but then it stays at the screen boot

The only results that would be posted here are what each member has found to be BEST for them by experimentation based on their phone/usage/setup/apps/signal strength. Please take the time to read through those development threads to learn all about the software you are about to drastically alter your very expensive device with.
Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation.

Have a great day!
I don't ask many questions, I tend to look it up and figure it out on my own, but now I would like some advice.
I'm running the latest kitkat Dirty Unicorns, on my T-mobile s4 SGH-M919. I'm using knootsen's Ktweaker kernel. I installed it just the night before today and my battery life was awesome (I applied some tweaks like OC and UV). I'm not asking for advice on my setup, but after some sudden battery drain that I can't explain, that also happened before using this kernel, I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion on the best app to give me detailed information on what is using my battery.
Thanks in advance!
