Is there a good solid kernel I can use to overclock my urevoked forever rooted evo. I've done a lot of searching and can't seem one that let's you use wimax WiFi or the camera. Help Is much appreciated.
Why not ask your question in the actual Q&A section?

I just use SetCPU on stock and use their perflock disabler. Its a little harder to configure for actual overclocking, but if you need to do any underclocking, you disable the perflock after every boot and have profiles set up. You could probably find the right settings to do overclock too, at least, I think you can.
Sorry I posted in the wrong spot. Newbie but tryin hard here. Finally rooted froyo and trying to make the best of it. When I try to disable it tells me wrong kernel. I had it oc'd yesterday but all sensors and camera were disabled. so I reflashed my original rom. I'm looking for a stable kernel that allows OC and is fully functional on my froyo Rom

I'm using the netarchy kernel 2.6.32 (bfs version). Everything is stable and fast overclocked to 1.15. I'm not sure how stable it is beyond that point. I tried 1.267 (cranked it all the way up), but that was definitely too much.
Thanks. I'm now running solid and stable at 2.22 ghz with all features of Evo working perfect. snappy!
i hope you meabn 1.22ghz

Yeah, 2.22 would probably blow up the phone! lol. Seriously though, it gets pretty hot when overclocking at 1.2 GHz, Can't imagine going too much higher without having serious damage occur.
Yeah I meant 1.23. I haven't ever had any heat issues yet. BAttery last longer too with my current profile setup. Amazing.
Im looking for a stock rom with no changes to it that allows me to keep root. I Looked through all the older threads in development but it seems there have been updates and such. Right now I am running CM 6.1 and it seem my batt is dying way faster then it did on a stock rom. I'd like to compare them and such. If anyone has one or can point me in the right direction i'd be happy! Thank you!

Yes, I am experiencing higher drain as well. Search the development section for cr_mod, look for the CR_Mod OTA 1.35.something. It's the rooted stock ROM with a wireless tether built in, OTA update and all. That's what your looking for. I flashed dumfuq's OC 4.0 kernel over the stock ROM and got better battery life than the stock HTC kernel, so I also recommend doing that. I'm on cm6.1 stable now, so I can easily modify themes, since it's AOSP based, and also so I can use the gingerbread latin_IME keyboard, since you need at least froyo to do that.

Hey thanks! I went back for about 8 hours and hated it. Im back on CM 6.1 and im getting terrible battery life still. IDK, I am going to try and reformat my SD card and reflash at a full battary etc. I migh ttry the kernel, but, I really don't want any OC of any kind, just maybe a lower standby setting, something in the range of 50mhz while the screen is off or something.

I cant see how formating an sd card could help. Anywho, cm 6.1 has the oc kernal already built into it. You dont need to flash any kernals, just use setcpu to adjust the speed.

I said try flashing dumfuq 4.0 over it because I THINK, not positive, but I was speculating that cyanogen had modified the kernel slightly that was causing a battery drain issue, because I stopped having so many issues with it when I flashed dumfuq's 4.0 kernel over it. Sounds weird, but it helped. I still have an occasional glitch where something is holding a wakelock on the system and it won't go to sleep, which is really annoying, and I think I traced it back to the music app, but still not sure there. I've been off of the charger for over an hour, with just 11 minutes of screen on and screen is 71% of the usage while cell standby is 11%, that's what makes me think flashing dumfuqs 4.0 fixed it. Cyanogen must've made a modification.
So, also @ the OP, go into spare parts battery history and see what is using it. If "running" is up above like 30 or 50% then you have something holding a wakelock, go to partial wake usage, and look at the app or UID that's got the wakelock. Rebooting normally gets rid of the lock for me, like I said, haven't quite figured it out yet.
Don't get me wrong, I love Myn's ROM and this thread is in no way a "lets derail Myn from his glory thread."
For one, my android system is running at 96% and I have absolutely no idea why. I flashed Calkulins new radio pack about 3 weeks ago along with his ROM and had no problems at all. I then switched to MIUI for awhile while I was waiting for RLS 5 to come out and since flashing RLS 5 I have had this problem and can't get rid of it. It doesn't matter what kernel I use, I still have upwards of 90% android system usage of the battery. I would like to figure this out or I may have to switch roms.
Another thing,
For some reason, after I just recently flashed to Myns RLS 5 Pandora sounds like it is playing out of a tin can. I have the higher quality settings turned on and it still sounds like crap, way worse than it did on any previous ROM. I'm wondering how I can fix this?
These problems are really starting to irritate me and I would very much love it if someone would help me out here.
Thanks

I have had the same issue with the android system taking up 90% + or my battery as well and it started after I flashed Myn's RLS5. Here is my post:

I just posted this with pics. Also I went under network usage in spare parts and it seems that "0" is taking up all the usage and dont know why?

I have all the latest updates for radios and Pandora sounds fine!
i've heard that flashing the entire update (radios, wimax, pri, nv)
causes the uptime on a lot of roms. i think your best bet would be flash the 1.77 PRI in calkulins thread. ive kept 1.77 pri and NV and my phone is just fine running myns RLS5 right now as a matter of fact. good luck hope this helps man.

Im not having any up time issues. My phone sleeps just fine, its the android system that is taking up over 90% + or my batery usage and its made my battery life crap.
Hmm...that's odd...I flashed the rom via Rom Manager, did a few optional updates with it, and the only thing I had to do was flash the 132 radio, my phone great, no FC, nothing.....Hell, I should take this phone into the local sprint store to show them how the SHOULD RUN!
hmmm well this is my solution and it come straight from netarchy in his thread
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=719763
and ultimately thats really what it sounds like man, flash a different kernal if you really feel the need to do something besides a PRI downgrade, but i firmly believe that myns RLS5 is just fine.
try downgrading the PRI and NV then post back worse case scenario you have to upgrade again and that takes a whopping 5 minutes

My big thing is that my phone is sleeping just fine. If you look at the second post and click on the link you will see screen shots of my up time and awake time which is like:
up time is like 46 hrs or some **** and awake time is like 6 hrs. So my problem is that the "Android System" is taking up 90% + of my battery use. I generally get a little over a day of lite to moderate use out of my battery but since I flashed rls5 its only been like 7 - 12 hrs(not that I am complaining) but I would just like to figure this out. Also some thing else I noticed was that in the spare parts app under network usage the top selection is "0" and when I click on it it just says "process com.android.settings has stopped unexpectedly. and please try again?
could this be related to the gingerbread menu upgrade? I have that flashed. Do you or have you ever?

i read your post, have you tried downgrading yet. im almost guaranteeing it will improve battery life the new 1.90 updates dont play well with a lot of roms causing ridiculous battery drain. now regardless if it shows its from the android system/networking problem or not im not knowledgeable enough to answer that, but my android system runs at 19% running myns rls5 and the 1.77 PRI and NV updates just saying..you might really want to consider just TRYING it ya know?

i think i figured out your problem, its your kernal. i just flashed the same kernal as you and now currently have 90% android system and have horrid battery. flash a new kernal. or keep the one from myns install it seems to have better life than netarchy's
Edit: just saw your sig, dont you know sbc is bad for your battery go read up man save it!

I love the SBC kernels and have read almost every post about them frying batterys. So I ordered a 3500 and am waiting for it to get here and then I will switch kernels. What is the stock kernel that is running with rls5? HTC kernel 15? Thanks for doing the testing. I have 4 kids and got pulled away for awhile. I think I am going to flash the stock kernel for rls5. Do you think I should still downgrade my PRI? I also hit the thanks button. I really appreciate the time you took to figure this out!
Let me just chime in here to shed a little light and knowledge.
Your problem is 3.70 base Rom. It's not a sleep issue. Probably won't be solved by changing kernels. Doesn't look like bad battery life since the phone had not been charged for 42 hours, that's almost 2 days.
If you ask me you have what most ppl are looking to get, which is a full day of use and more. Now correct me if I am wrong but how is going 2 days with out charging a bad thing???
The android system high %'s is a 3.70 issue which has affected a lot of ppl on the forum. The issue has several remedies but the easiest is to just reboot directly after charging the phone. Some ppl have said changing the pri back to 1.77 solved the issue, others have said updating their radio solved the issue.
Please give me a little bit more information so I can research more in depth for you...
Edit: Also let me state the facts here, please don't discredit someone else's work by saying a certain kernel,Rom, theme or recovery will damage a device. The sbc was a variable in ppl batteries being damaged and no one has proven that the kernel has indeed damaged their phone. Only here say...
I don't know if sbc is good or bad as the team I am working with are still in the testing stages with no clear answer, which probably won't come for months.

I honestly love the sbc kernels so I am showing no disrespect to the dev that put these together. My phone also loves the net kernels so Im not going to change at this point. If you see my signature then you know what I am running.

There is definately a problem with the rom released 1-7-11.
It will not allow installation of google usb tether program and the file explorer always seems to be working (spinning graphic). I do not think the previous rom had this problem but I can not be sure. Tried other non myn roms w/o problem, retried myn's and reconfirmed that there is a problem.
It seems that he changed a few things and had some sort of side effect.
Somebody should try running ps, ps -aux or top from a bash terminal to see what is really running. A look at the error log would not hurt either.
Interesting that you couldn't install that. I'm not sure why. The spinning I believe you are referring to is where ads would be. Myn added adblock to the role rls5. Most apps with ads (astro, xda, alchemy, etc) will display the loading circle instead. You can remove adblock. Just search the threads.

Have you tried the reboot right after charging? Also I read some where to go into airplane mode and then turn everything back on. Also when all else fail, not sure how you got to myn's but for the sake of safety do a fresh install of it with a wipe on everything. May also want to try caulk's format all zip.
Try the reboot then see, if that fails fresh install and then see.. let me know each time...

I had the horrid battery life after upgrading to Myn's latest and the treo update radio pack. Downgrading my PRI didn't fix it. It was the kernel. I was having random browser fc also.
Went back to HTC #17 kernel and all is well. Try swapping just your kernel.
Long time lurker first time poster... so don't beat me up too bad.
I'm looking at jumping into the CM7 world and am looking for some input.
I've used multiple versions of Skyraider up to 3.5 and loved them until they began getting a bit laggy (tried multiple kernels). I'm now using myn's warm 2.2 and ziggy's kernel with great success. Phone operates VERY smooth and all features work (not even sure why I want to try something new... guess I'm bored?).
Long story short, my phone is a daily driver and needs good battery life and all features to work (BT, camera, data, WiFi, etc...). I don;t mind flashing a few ROM's but it gets quite time consuing setting up the desktop screens, apps, calendars, etc...
I see that some builds break things, some fix things and it's hard to know which build does what. Many folks feel CM7 is the greatest thing since the Atari 2600; so here's my question:
What build are you using?
Does the phone scroll and transition smoothly?
All features working?
Getting FC's?
And yes... I have done quite a bit of reading on the CM7 nightly thread and others as well. People have a tendancy to post issues, not sucesses so it's difficult to find a good stable GB ROM.
Im on the latest release #37 I believe Using slayhers .37 kernal.
Love it. Altho, ever since I installed .37 kernal I've had my phone randomly reboot between 7:30 am - 9:00 am
I have yet to find out why... and it's only durring those hours too
I'm loving this ROM. Every time i go back to a sense, rom, i end up flashing cm6/7 back.
There are good things about cm6 and cm7... cm6 has a better camera app, probably more stable, but cm7 brings all the little things together, like multitouch keyboard + maps, it's snappy, the txting lag has been much improved. I think they are going to drop RC1 tonite..
I'm using build #33 with Chad's.37 kernel and everything's been running perfectly for the past few days. I don't think I've had a single FC or reboot. Battery life has also been very good, been using it pretty heavily all day and I'm down to 50%.
Just flashed 38, Have also used pretty much all the 20's 31 and 32. .37 Slayher Homebrewed #14
No reboots. I would say I could count the FCs on one hand easily and honestly don't blame the build I blame the app.
I used a number of roms before. Most of them from Rom manager. Now I am strictly a CM guy. Love these builds. I don't use Rom manager anymore either, just manually flash.
Personally, I'm someone who generally avoids experimental roms that still have incomplete functionality. Like you, my phone is a daily driver and I need to be able to rely on it. But CM7 was getting such rave reviews, I started to read up on it. It seemed that by the time I was hopping onto the bandwagon (nightly build 27 or so), everything was functional, there were just some things to be polished here and there.
It would be an understatement to say that I've been pleased.
To answer your questions specifically:
What build are you using? - Just flashed to #38, but have used a number of the builds
Does the phone scroll and transition smoothly? - Yes. For whatever its worth, I use LauncherPro Plus rather than ADW (which is what CM7 comes with)
All features working? - Yes. At least everything that I use.
Getting FC's? - Nothing that can't be traced back to another issue besides CM7
Don't get me wrong, I've had some tiny issues here and there, and some weird interactions, but nothing critical, and nothing that has stopped me from using this as my only rom.
I still keep old nandroids of the last two roms I used before CM7, but unless something drastic changes, they will just collect dust.
I've been using CM7 as a daily driver since like build 11, I haven't had any problems at all and its nice seeing new things added with each build
My dinc runs CM7 with the modified slayher .37 kernel. I runs super fast, but I haven't really noticed a significant increase in battery life. It used to crash, but since I set the wifi sleep policy to never, I have not had any problems.
build#38 ran awesome. no force closes and great battery life 20 hours or more. id say give it a try.
Just flashed RC1. Going great so far with only a few FC's that were solved with a simple reinstall.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Did RC1, shaky, but amazing. Running 39 and it is better, has a lot of fixes that RC1 was plagued with. Like the rotary lock in the call screen.
I've been following CM7 development since Crackflashers. The rom has come a long way. Many people had problems with the first RC1 release because a mistake was made and those who did a clean wipe were locked out of the system. -Guess that should serve as a lesson to always nandroid first-
My advice is to continue flashing nightlies. As previously mentioned, the code will continue to improve and you will receive the latest fixes and features. Save yourself the trouble and clear cache and Dalvik before every flash. No need to wipe data.
Does anybody happen to know if there is a .37 version of the invisiblek kernel that includes the wifi sleep policy fix?
Its been working fine for me. The only problem I am having is that trackball wake doesn't function. I've made sure its selected int he CM settings, but I can press the trackball until kingdom come and it won't do anything. Looking at the dev. thread, I'm either the only one experiencing it, or the only one who cares.
SD card not mounting
flashed CM7 yesterday, really like how it runs. problem is my SD card won't load on the phone! I tried two different cards but no luck. recovery won't mount them either so I can't restore a nandroid backup. help!
also when I reboot most of the time, it'll show the htc incredible screen then go black and vibrate 5 times.
I'm running CM7 nightly #2 with the 2.6.37 incredikernel and it's great. Everything is very smooth and I can't seem to find anything that refuses to work. I had fc's when I first flashed the rom but fixing permissions in rom manager did the trick, since then I've had no problems.
I flashed CM7 as soon as they posted RC1 to ROM manager. I was skeptical at first and had a bunch of FC issues until I ran fix permissions (AFTER you install all apps). Haven't had issues since and my battery is lasting longer than ever, even without Juice Defender. Performs great. Can't wait until they get to adding more features like 6.1 had.
Sent from HTC Incredible [CyanogenMod 7 RC1]
Is it just me, or did Cyanogenmod lose some customization options from CM6.1 to CM7?
I dont see many editing options under CyanogenMod Settings and miss the ones from CM6.1
I'm on Build #41 and I can say a few things:
1) Battery life sucks on the Incredible no matter what. So just accept that. That being said, with Incredikernel .37 and CM7 Build 41, my battery life is "acceptable" compared to completely unacceptable with any other kernel or Sense Rom combination.
2) Random reboots. I don't know if it's just my phone, but even after trying three different .37 kernels, fixing permissions and re-flashing, my phone will go through "reboot anxiety attacks" where it reboots once every 10-12 minutes and then it will be fine for a whole day. It's not at specific times either.
3) Honeybread Theme - Get it. That's all.
4) Turn off wifi sleep completely. It seemed to curb some battery issues I was having.
Thanks All...
I went ahead and took the plunge and I don't regret it
I had some issues with RC1 and had to go to nightly #38. Everything has been solid with the exception of 2 random reboots (in the last 3 days). Not sure why but this isn't a show stopper.
I'll likley wait a while before flashing another nightly build.
So far so good. Batter life is ok... I know the Inc isn't the best for battery life but I got a bit better with Myn's ROM.
My quadrant numbers have improved (I know... relatively meaningless) and the UI is quite smooth.
Thanks to the development team... You've done a great job !!!
Hello there,
So as the title says, does anyone have some Kernel recommendations me?
As you probably know I'm running on CM 7.1 stable with 12.54.60.25U_26.09.04.11_M2 radio if that even matters, and the default kernel which comes with CM 7.1.
I've seen a lot of people around here use LorDModUE kernel. I don't exactly know much about kernels so I have no idea how one kernel would perform in comparison to another or even how it would effect the functionality of the phone in general.
So what made you want to change your kernel in terms of performance and features? Which features stood out to you most and why?
Thanks a lot for any help on this matter!
Cheers
No one can help me out with this topic here?
I used Lordmod Kernal 8.5 BFS when i used CM7.1
hope this helps
It's your phone, your expectations, your needs, your time.
Backup, flash, test.
Didn't like it? Restore backup.
Wanna try another? Flash again, test.
It's fun, you will see.
Some people experience issues with a bfs kernel where their internet will stop working after a while until they toggle their connection on and off. Installing a cfs kernel will fix this. If you have no issues though and have all the options you want, then their is no need to change it unless you just want to test out other ones. As stated, some prefer one over another.

Hmm yes I do like messing with my phone haha, though I only have one so it's my main phone. Can't be having too much fun just in case it decides to give me lemons .
Does flashing Kernel require wiping data? I guess that's not such a big problem since I have TB to help me out in that department but it would save a lot of trouble if one did not have to wipe data every single time.
Cheers

Oh that would suck wouldn't it? I've heard BFS > CFS right? Does it really make a noticeable difference? I was going to go try out BFS anyway since it sounded a bit more interesting.

Thanks for this! Glad to know it's CM7.1 friendly.
EDIT: Sorry for the double-post! Thought it would automatically combine like I've previously experienced, guess not.
Yup... That's about right.. LordMod 8.5 BFS pretty much gave me the best performance out of the ones that I tested while on CM 7.1
And yes.. although I haven't experience a very significant difference.. BFS is a performance enhancement over CFS according to LordClockan.. He's the kernel guru so I believe him!
