yup... here I was making fun of the Skyrocket because it has been eclipsed by the Skyrocket HD in a mere couple of months... lol karma

Ouch! That's gotta hurt the people who just lay'ed down for a Titan 1.
There are so many choices showing up from this CES that it will be a task deciding which one when the upgrade comes.

I want to say I'll be getting a Nokia, but you're right, there are quite a few choices now.

16MP camera!!!!

So glad i got mine for a penny

This isn't coming till Q2? What the hell? Why????

There are some downsides to this thing, the first titan still looks better to me (I don't care much for cam mp's) at this point. Titan II has no removable battery, storage wasn't increased and LTE sucks battery and is not available to like 90% of att customers and I don't belive it can be turned off.

Though I like the looks of the Titan 1, when I first saw it in pictures, I didn't think to highly of it. It just looked like the same old rehash of the now-common HTC style. It wasn't until I saw a Titan 1 in person that I became quite fond of it. The Titan 2 doesn't look like much to me in these pictures, but I will reserve aesthetic judgment till I handle one. The battery is no issue with me, I can live without a removable battery. The storage could be an issue. There needs to be up to 64GB...or removable storage. The camera is no big deal to me either...unless it is superb quality. A 2MP superb quality camera can blow away a 5 bajillion MP low quality camera.

AND Titan 2 has plasticy back instead of the metalic aluminium stury one on Titan 1. That broke the deal and out weighed the 16 meg px for me.

No...
I thought that could be pain in the ass , but no, Non Removable Battery and Pastic cover + LTE Technology which is not compatible if i go back to my country.
16MP Pixel is sweet, but if i really want to take a picture, my Sony Cybershot 10MP can do even better.

16 megapixel camera?! phone's are gonna replace everyday camera's soon.

I can't see that ever happening. The average dedicated camera will always be better than the average phone camera. There may be instances where a phone camera is higher end, but there will always be a relative dedicated camera that bests it.

Optical zoom will always beat digital zoom.
Titan kicks the Lumia ass btw.

I love my HTC Titan, but I was on the fence waiting for the Nokia. I'm glad I didn't. While the Nokia looks nice, it's not a game changer by any means. The Titan II sports better specs and will probably get better sales.
I definitely want an LTE phone, so it'll be one of these two. Fortunately, my wife's phone will be eligible for upgrade in April, so that'll be good timing to grab one of these phones. Not sure about the non-removable battery.
My biggest gripe, NO 32 GB storage! What's up with that? At least give us the option of either a 16 GB or 32 GB of storage. I'd definitely spring extra for that.
One last note is that I saw the screenshot had the 8107 WP7 on the Titan II. So there's no reason we shouldn't see that released to us. Right AT&T?

plastic back plate is probably a good thing for cellular signal (and in turn, battery life), given the report of grip of death on titan 1.

Where are people getting the idea the backside of the Titan 2 is plastic? There are a couple plastic plates...like the Titan 1...but the body is aluminum.

[Q] HTC HD7 vs Samsung Focus

I'm not sure which phone to get. I have the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate right now which is just like the focus and i like the captivate (coming from the iPhone 4). I'm just not crazy about android and I have always been a lover of windows mobile. The HD2 is one of my favorite phones out and that's basically the HD7. So which one would you go for. My contract is up with at&t on November 9th so I'm not sure if i should stay and go with the focus or switch to t-mobile and get the HD7. What it really comes down to is The super amoled screen which I love vs the 4.3" screen which I love.
I would go with Dell Venue.
I'm going with the Focus myself.
Haha I'm in the exact same spot. I have a Captivate but am considering going over to WP7. Stuck between the Focus and HD7.
From a practical standpoint I'm leaning more towards the Focus simply because it has an accessible Micro SD slot and of course the superior screen quality. But I love the HD7's form factor and screen size.
Need to see the HD7 in person to determine if I'm willing to take the step back in screen quality. That's really the deciding factor.
I just pre-ordered the HD7. Don't trust engadget's review of the screen. Every other video of the phone shows it is much more vibrant and the blacks are a lot deeper. Probably because every time engadget showed it was at an angle, when realistically the phone will only be viewed directly.
EDIT: I'm coming from an amoled equipped Nexus One.

As am I. I was originally going to go with HD7/Venue but then decided Focus.
I have to go with the HD7. I have been a fan if HTC for years. At&t 8125, T-Mobile Mda, wing, G1, touch pro 2, HD2, It's only right for my to go back bow that they have another top notch device. I love my vibrant the screen is amazing but
4.3 inches for movies is just better seeing that everything thing is close to being the same. I can live with 16gigs I have 32 right now and have used only 10
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I'd say the Focus because the size is perfect, has a super AMOLED, and is said to have a slightly more responsive screen.
I'm personally hoping the Dell Venue Pro eventually hits Verizon since T-Mobile is just a launch partner.

I know its so hard to make a decision. I love my super amoled but the hd2 has the same screen as the hd7 so if you want you can make your comparison from there.

Put the HD2 and the HD7 next to each other and you will see that the HD7 is clearly a better screen. The screen is more comparible to the evo.
Windows Phone 7 is a complete programming break from all earlier incarnations. It would stand to reason that some features wouldn't be implemented in the first pass. Windows Mobile was losing market share at an astonishing rate, and one of the bigger reasons was the lack of a cohesive, polished, smoother user experience. Despite the ability to tether and cut/paste. The marketplace has obviously spoken, and said that user experience is far more important that feature set. Why would a for profit company emphasize the exact ideology that resulted in nothing but eroding market share, when other companies took the exact opposite approach with mind blowing success?
Focus.
Better screen. Much better camera. Expandable memory.

I wouldn't jump on the hd7 just yet. I'm using the hd2 because my iphone4 got stolen and im tired of paying full price for iphones, I would stick with ur iPhone get it unlocked for t-mobile, and use it until something goes wrong, or sell it on ebay for some ridiculous price and get yourself covered for the hd7
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
im on the same boat... i have an evo and need to dump sprint since its signal absolutely blows at home...
originally i want to get me an hd7, but im getting a bit worried after reading some initial reviews (poor build quality, sub par camera) ill hold off on judgement on the screen till i see it personally since i have a newer build evo (hw3) and the screen looks fantastic compared to the hd2 and early evo's (hw1-2), so if the hd7 uses the same screen then it will pass...
on the other hand there is the samsung focus with the super amoled screen, vastly superior battery life reported by reviews, and superior camera, my concerns with this one is the lack of camera flash, plasticky build, and at&t's tiered data plans (has anyone had issues with this since it was applied?)
bottom line...
HD7:
+ screen size, dual flash, kickstand (love it), more developer attention, unlimited data (tethering?)
- battery capacity, average camera, average build, inferior contrast
Samsung Focus:
+ super amoled screen, camera quality, slimmer, battery life
- cheap feel, no camera flash, limited data
opinions? ? ?

For the negatives: I've heard mixed reviews on the 'cheap feel,' some say it's not that bad, and even feels pretty good. There is an LED flash on the back, and I still have an unlimited plan.
For the positives: You didn't mention the expandable storage that the focus has, which for me is a huge plus. I've also seen a video with a Samsung exec jabbing his pen into the screen showing that it wont scratch (gorilla glass or something similar?).
Lastly, I'm not sure the battery life is a plus (maybe it is compared to the HTC?), as several sites list it as only average or even below average.

thanx for the clarification i must have missed the flash on the back
battery life on super amoled is awesome compared to lcd's, that is till you go to an app that has a white background (email, web, facebook, twitter) so i guess thats something i have to keep in mind...
if i could somehow get unlimited data it would be a wrap
Just read through the thread and having owned a HD7 for a week now i'll give you some pointers:
Pro's
- The Screen is superb. It's huge, bright (brightness on high, not auto) and colours are vibrant. I've had the desire with it's AMOLED screen and can say the difference is minimal, plus when you've got them next to each other the HD7's sheer screen size outways the miniscule (even unnoticable) difference in quality. It is not the same screen as used in the HD2.
- The Build quality is brilliant. No creaks or bends, and the kickstand is firm and sturdy.
- The screen is the most responsive i've ever used. It's fantastic and imo (dare i say it?) better than that apple one. It responds instantly to your touch and scrolling through menus/webpages/etc is flawless. The pinch to zoom is incredibly impressive compared to others too.
- The camera is brilliant. It's crisp, the LED's are rediculously bright, and it takes pictures really quickly. I've been taking about 5 or 6 pictures per 10 seconds which is good if you're like me and take loads then pick the best one.
Cons
- The Battery life on my particular HD7 is dreadful, i get a day and a half at the most with what I would say is average usage. I have to charge it every night which i'm not too fussed about but if that bothers otehrs it's definately something to consider.
- The autofocus on the camera during video recording can be hit and miss. Sometimes it out-focuses itself, but if you hold it for a second or 2 it sorts itself out, so not a problem for me really.
*EDIT* After a further 2 weeks i can confirm Battery life has stabalised and after a "full day" (7am till 11pm) of use i still have half a battery left.
Can the HD7 take an SD card as currently looking at various win 7 devices
Here is the deal guys, Windows Phone 7 was never supposed to have SD card support, I think 16 gigs is more than enough, but anyways. Every time you change the Omni in the focus, you have to reformat I believe your device, so keep that in my mind.
Why MS didn't put SD support is beyond me, but what Samsung did is just use that as expendable memory, it sort of creates 1 partition, if I am understanding it correctly

Yeah, just stumbled accross it on twitter. Pretty much reminds me of my next handset.
4.7 and 1.5 Single core. Fake. Or 4.3 with overclocked 1ghz, real.
Happy with the CPU and front facing camera, not so happy with the screen size. That's huuuge
Have to ask, what so special about this? Big screen, which could be too big and no AMOLED, slight bump in processor speed, typical crappy htc camera and of course inadequate storage. Heck even Dell now has 32GB DVP's. Since FFC's will likely come on most Mango handsets what has this got over a Nokia with a proven record in phone cameras and better build quality? Plus this looks like just another htc android handset so design wise again is behind Nokia. Add in Samsung and their Super Amoled II screens and this is not that impressive to me.
cmon htc......a screen that big needs an amoled display not SLCD. a sumsung device similar to the infuse 4g running wp7 will easily top this. in my opinion.
my next wp7 device must have and amoled screen and i was hoping it will come from htc, might just go Samsung or nokia depending on what tmobile picks up

A slight bump? It's a 50% bump. A 1.5 GHz single will probably outperform a 1 GHz dual core in most smartphone applications for the time being. This is the best CPU we can possibly get from this round of devices, I'm glad to see someone using it.

I've got a DVP (4" screen). The Infuse (4.5") makes my DVP look like Shaq to Vern Troyer. I can only imagine what a 4.7" screen would be like.
Anyway, that's overly large, for me anyway. I'll be looking at the next Samsung or more than likely Nokia, as Sammy is doin' wonky things with firmware.
But, I'll be keeping an eye out for the Acers and Fujitsus. All depends on what hits T-mobile. Either way, good to see that the OEMs are stepping up their hardware game, even if the designs aren't all that original.
Way to big, my max is 4"
Seriously, don't complain about 4.7". I have a 5" Dell Streak and it's perfectly pocketable and the browsing and gameplay experience is second to none.
Having said that, as much as Mango is a much more desirable release of WP7, I'd much prefer this device with Sense and Android Honeycomb.
It will be better if HTC trim outside screen area so they can have 4.7" screen with smaller size than the current design
That's a freaking huge phone. Curious: when you say the dell streak is pocketable, do you mean in normal jeans pockets ?
A few of my colleagues have dell streaks, and no they are not pocketable. They use a belt clip to hold it to their waist.
if the entire back panel was a battery, it would rock. too bad it won't be, and it will suck, like all phones' batteries do now.
someday they'll sacrifice being the thinnest for longevity. someday.

HTC Trophy - nice phone

Had a chance to stop into the local Verizon store and view the latest gadget candy. I played with the LG Revolution, the Droid X2, the Pre 2 and the Trophy. I glanced at a lot of the other stuff as well and came out feeling the the Trophy is the nicest phone Verizon has to offer. It's very elegant and stylish and worked splendidly. HTC really knows how to make phones, that's all there is to it.
Install mango on it...it will impress you
The wife just got the trophy and it is a really nice phone. I prefer larger screens though.
Sent from my HD7 running Mango using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
I love wp7 but I think HTC phones will never be able to do it justice.
yea its a nice phone but they need to bring out a more feature filled phone with a front camera but until wp7 rolls out the mango update the trophy is one of the best wp7 phones
I'm using the Trophy myself. It's nice, but the camera isn't so great and the auto-brightness doesn't work very well. When taking a picture, it snaps the picture a split second after pressing the button. This is a pain in the ass when trying to take pictures of my kid who can't stand still, or anything moving.
I'm not impressed with HTC's lineup at all... I never was. Their battery covers are almost always slightly crooked (like the top edge where you open it might stick up, allowing larger pieces of lint, sand, or other particles to get lodged in there), their cameras aren't as good as Samsung's, and their auto-brightness sensors have usually been wonky (at least the ones I've used).
But, they're the only manufacturer with a WP7 device on Verizon so I had to get it. Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's a piece of crap or anything, but I definitely don't think it's the "best" Verizon has to offer. But that's my opinion.

Of course. But there is still a delay. It's not instantaneous.
Edit: I had a Samsung Focus several months ago before switching carriers. I don't remember the camera on that phone having the delay. That's why it's relevant to this post.

Don't care what HTC phone you have, the cameras have never been great, yea, you could get pretty good but, never great.
HTC has never been known for to be a camera company, some of the upcomming phones SHOULD be starting to use Carl Zeiss lenses and things should be getting bettter in this department. Look up any HTC phone, this is a major compaint for it with most people.
If you got a HTC phone for it's camera, you will be dispointed.

Yeah that's pretty much what I'm saying.
And I didn't want to wait for another WP7 device on Verizon. I like the soft, matte finish on it, but that's it. I wish the Trophy had the same style front glass as the HD7 (how it sort of sits on top of the plastic) but without the size. I think the size of the Trophy is perfect. If that new Nokia phone (the Sea Ray?) comes out as a CDMA device, I'm totally buying it. I don't care if I have to pay full retail, I'll save up for it. It's so nice.

Unfortunately, they've already compared the camera on the N9 to the N8 and it's no where near as good. I hope they use the same optics as the N8 for the sea ray.
I have been very happy with the trophy except for a few things.
I'm coming from what was basically an indestructable phone and that is the original moto droid. I never had screen protection or a case and there were no scratches. Gorrila glass is a must have. The 2nd day I had the trophy I ended up with a scratch on the screen.
Battery life. This is fixable with the 1800 mah battery you can find, but why ship the phone with such a weak battery.
storage space. This is an issue with most of the wp7 offerings. Yes it can be fixed but it's not meant to be fixed. I have a 32gb zune and guess what, I want all of that music plus apps on my phone.
3.8 is a decent size, although I really want a 4.3 inch.

A word about some of the complaints that people on the forums seem to be making

List of complaints that need to be addressed because people keep making threads on them:
1. The Camera is 5 MP.
Okay, anybody who things that megapixels = quality probably knows very little about photography. More megapixels in many cases introduces more noise, especially considering how small the camera is.
If you want to print photos at a letter sized at 300 ppi, invest in a REAL camera. A low end DSLR will blow any phone out of the water; the image sensor is several times as large.
http://www.unlikelymoose.com/more/cameras/megapixel_converter.html
Until we see this phone next to a Galaxy S2 and an iPhone 4S taking pictures in a controlled environment, we can't say that this camera sucks.
2. The pentile display
It is currently not possible to make a 1280x720 or 1280x800 RBG display at the size we want and if they made it bigger, it would be very expensive.
http://pentileblog.com/uncategorized/pentile-for-720-hd-oled-smartphones/
The Galaxy Note has reached a point where some people say that they cannot see the subpixels, so this phone should not be a problem.
The only real valid criticism that the screen has a "blue" tint. For those that are unfamiliar with OLED technology, blue subpixels have the shortest lifespan. This was a deliberate decision by Samsung to maximize screen life.
Overall, side by side comparisons indicate that this is a step forward from the GS2.
3. The SOC/GPU
I am also disappointed in the PowerVR SGX540, but given the circumstances, it is the best SOC they could have chosen. The only alternative would have been the Exynos 4210 (the 4212 uses a new 32nm process not available and is only "sampling" right now) or the Qualcomm Scorpion, with its Adreno 220, which is inferior in terms of both CPU and GPU.
Of particular concern is the new generation of more demanding games and the fact that this GPU needs to drive a 1280x720 screen.
We need to see some real benchmarks as ICS may have had some under the hood optimizations and how it stacks up to the Tegra 3, which will come out in a couple of months. The Tegra 2's GPU was by no means better than the lower clocked (btw, did I mention that this GPU is higher clocked than the one on the GS1?), SGX540 on the first generation of Galaxy S phones.
The OMAP SOC on board is native 1.5 GHz, so I'm sure that you will be able to overclock it back to native clockspeed. I fully anticipate 2 GHz+ mods to come out afterwards.
4. It's too big
Your opinion. I like big phones.
5. Plastic
Samsung's phones actually last pretty well. I have seen HTC's which get praised for their build break. A friend of mine owns a repair shop for phones. Apparently 90% of his smartphone displays that he repairs are iPhones, which also get praised. He is delighted that the new iPhone 4S shares the same design as its predecessor.
6. No SD Card
This is one I am also disappointed at. It's a trend in the Nexus phones right now. Google seems to be encouraging cloud usage. I dislike this one as well, because data is expensive and ICS specifically has data management tools reflecting this.
Somewhat mitigating this is that there are 32 GB versions available and that internal storage is faster than a class 10 SD card.
7. DAC and sound quality?
Unknown and I eagerly await the answer.
Will I buy this phone?
Actually, I am undecided. I want to see reviews first and hold it. I am also eagerly waiting to see what the DAC is. Come H2 2012, A15 parts and perhaps an RGB version of the 720p display are probable. I will however buy it if I can get a sweet deal.
Couldn't agree more on peeps complaining about the 5mp camera!! I have a 3.2mp Sony digital camera that is probably 10 years old. It isn't even a DSLR. But it takes far superior pictures than my 8mp camera on my Charge. Why? In a word, optics !! My old camera has a Zeiss lens on it. It is folly IMO to expect high quality pictures from a phone camera !! If you want to be a photographer, buy a camera !!
All valid points, was a good write up. I especially agree with the point about waiting to see it in the flesh.
I'm a zoom in shooter where does that leave me coming from a 4mp to a 8mp and back down to a 5mp
The issue I take up with the size is that it feels like there's a lot of blank and empty black space in not only the bezel (especially the bottom) but also with ICS. In general, the size and look of the device is both a love and hate. Sometimes I think it's gorgeous, and other times I think it's hideous. I think this is one of those "time will tell" things.

Then why did you bother posting in the first place?
Enough.
The very purpose of this thread was to minimize this kind of trolling.

Not camera apps. A program to enlarge a picture there are some for professional use. You know there's still something called a PC .

Stuff fits easily in empty pants, amazing.
-_-
I had the opportunity to play with one over this past weekend. In regards to size, if you have held an SGSII in your hand it is more or less the same size. Slightly taller, but not really enough that one could use the "won't fit in my pocket" argument. The screen looks fantastic and ICS is very smooth, even on the beta build it was running.
That being said, would I upgrade my SGSII for it? Still not sure. I will have to see if I get the fever when it is released and order one.

Most of these "it won't fit my pocket" arguments are troll posts from people who have no intention of buying the phone.
I have played for a bit with the Galaxy Note. It was big, but it did fit in my jeans with my keys inside.

I'll be happy with the durability if its as good as the Galaxy S II. With curved design of the Nexus, it'll less likely to get screen damaged on drops http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elKxgsrJFhw

Any difference in the feel between the two SGS2 -Nexus
So I've had a dozen different android phones but none without an SD card. How does this work? Does it have a partition to mimic the sd card? Im going to get this phone regardless, but want to know if I can transfer all my files over from the sd card on my current phone.

Droid DNA... wow.

Have you guys seen this thing? I don't like my Note 2 anymore
what are the chances it comes to Sprint? I'm jumping ship when it does!
what are you seeing that makes it better than the note ?
Only 16gb and no Micro sd = useless
plz the galaxy note is the queen
yea, lets completely ignore the 1080p display?
slightly slower processor, smaller screen, smaller battery as well. only real difference is the screen ppi as wellvas what was mentioned above.

We all know the battery life will never compare and as someone on AC mentioned, "I dont see how people on a 2gb shared data plan can use this phone without upping their data plan. Which is exactly why Verizon ordered the phone without an microSD slot."

That's a nice screen, but the following are deal-killers: 16gb and no micro sd; non-removable battery; small 2,020mAh battery
Nice screen but I have to use reading glasses to see a pixel on my note. At some point ppi is just a bigger number.
I think I will pass on this. I don't want to get a phone whose company are not friendly to developers. Rom development will suck on this phone.

The 2200mah battery is a killer here. With a large display and everything, its going to the OG EVO all over again.
I come from using HTC for over 6 years and switched to Samsung for the NOTE 2... Guess what? im not coming back... I FREACKING LOVE this thing, every HTC I had would`nt make it over 10 hours without charging and they are not friendly to developers, they are just not worth it anymore specially with the specs for the new galaxy S4 (3 gb of ram :victory... Samsung is waaaay ahead of HTC....
Lmao.. #Never I bet the battery life sucks because HTC phones battery life always sucks..Plus why would you want to leave a phone that has 16gb of external memory and you can add a Sd to boast it up more to go to a phone that only have 16gb? That make no sense plus the GNII looks easy better in my opinion.
Swyped by Me & My GNII
I was aware of that phone before I picked up my note. I came from an OG Evo which served me well for close to 2.5 years so I was looking for an excuse to make a move back to HTC. The reports of the 4g LTE Evo bending is what kept me away from it. The only thing I like the DNA is its 5" screen as I find the note 2 to be a bit excessive.
This phone (Droid DNA) has nothing on the Note II except a greater screen resolution. Might as well get an iPhone if ppi is all you want.
I can't see a damn pixel from another on my Note II, so adding pixels and removing battery size does nothing (for me) except make it less enduring.
No, S Pen? No thanks.
This phone doesn't have anything going for it that will matter in a couple months. All those horsepower specs will get out horsed by the next phone. I'll stick with the Note II and all of it's differentiating qualities.
(btw, I HATE the term 'Droid'. It's a term used by iPhoners to describe Android phones since all they know about them comes from Verizon commercials)
thanks for putting up with this rant... here's some boobs to make up for it:

1080p display on a 2020mah battery
You know how everyone is ranting and raving about the Note 2 battery life? Well imagine the exact opposite on the "DNA" which isn't even as good as the Japanese version, the HTC J Butterfly which is moderately waterproof among other features.

What is that comment supposed to mean, You do know the OG Evo4G was the leading smartphone back when it was released for quite sometime not to mention very successful. If you are comparing it to today's standards then obviously it will fall to the back burner it was over 2years ago. But considering it was pushing a 1Ghz Processor with 512mb of RAM, and 8mp camera with auto focus and digital zoom, 1.3mp front facer that was capable of video chat no problem when some devices that are only 8-12months old can barely do it or cannot do it well. 4.3in display, HDMI out , 4G connectivity, 1500mah battery sd card slot supporting up to 32Gb. For coming out 2.5years ago that's a Heavy weight Belt holder.
And I love my Galaxy Note 2, But this Droid DNA is by no means a Slouch or a weak phone. I would definately take this if it was available for my carrier and the Gn2 wasn't around. And for saying that HTC doesn't know how to build a phone etc, look at the Evo4G LTE vs Gs3 shootouts the Evo with similar specs and less RAM beats it which can only mean that the Touchwiz UI wasn't as well implemented with the android on that platform vs the Sense + Android setup.
With the 1.5Ghz S4 Pro + 2Gb of RAM It will be a contender with pulling and performing. Add in the 1080p resolution and another cool feature that I would like to see in Future devices is what HTC did with the Front Facing Camera. They threw in a f2.0 aperture with an 88degree shooting angle to not only get a wide angle shot in the front but it also is capable of 1080p video. Which correct me if I am wrong but I believe that is a first in having a front facing camera on a phone capable of capturing 1080p video. Now it's possible the 8x may be capable of this as that's where they borrowed the wide angle lens for the front from.

It is a cool phone, but as mentioned, no removable SD, small battery, nothing similar to the s-pen, no type of "multiview". Its nice it has a 1080p screen and all, but that one benefit doesn't make up for it's shortcomings.

Tiny, not removeable battery and only 16GB w/no micro SD card = no buy, no matter what.
