Hi,
I bought the GNexus a month ago, its my 1st android device. (I had a Blackberry for the last 3 years).
I have unlocked my Gnex, and rooted it, then i have installed yakju in order to get rid of my yakjuux ROM, it was my 1st time doing it... Everything worked fine, all my apps were automatically redownloaded and reinstalled from my google account. (Very nice feature).
But for some reason now, I have lost my root acces and I am not sure why or how.. is it normal? I have installed root checker, and supser user returns messages saying he cant get root privileges on my phone.
I tried rooting the phone using superboot. Everyting seemd to have worked fine:
C:\Nexus\r3-galaxynexus-superboot\r3-galaxynexus-superboot>install-superboot-win
dows.bat
C:\Nexus\r3-galaxynexus-superboot\r3-galaxynexus-superboot>fastboot-windows.exe
boot boot.superboot.img
downloading 'boot.img'... OKAY
booting... OKAY
The phone reboted but stayed at the Google logo for like 3 mins. I pulled the battery and after that the phone rebooted normally except superuser cant access root.
Any tips or help is welcome on how to root the phone (already unlocked)
Thanks
You should have left it on there! Mine got stuck on the Google boot logo for around 10 minutes before it was done? I was just about to pull it before it booted up. Go through the process again and give it time

Go on YouTube and look for zedomax. He has an easy root video with a link to all the software

when you installed the yakju ROM to change yakjuux it deleted root because you fully wiped your phone for a yakju build. just reapply superboot (or install clockwork recovery and flash su.zip that will give you root) and you'll have root.
either that or flash a custom ROM with clockwork recovery and you'll have root.
Another thing is always make a backup of your current favorite rom before flashing anything. I have my original rom and 1 favorite rooted rom on backup at all times. If you do this and encounter problems you can always go in recovery and restore your custom rooted rom. The only reason I keep a stock rom on is in case I have to return the phone. You can remove your unlock symbol by going in fastboot and typing (fastboot OEM lock) I think! This was how I locked my bootloaders back up on my beloved nexus s, good luck and pm me if you need anything

Didn't know about su.zip option in CWM, where can I find this zip file for the GNex GSM?

I couldn't find it on XDA but I did get it off XDA before and have tested it on 4.0.2 when I used 4.0.2 stock. I just uploaded it: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?4qq8mhu7w0437ky flash in cwr.

I'm not sure where to go from here, I rooted my Nexus, installed CWM, and everything was fine. Until my dumbass decided to reboot to recovery from ROM manager, didn't think it would hurt anything. Now, whenever I try to load recovery from my bootloader, the android pops up with the swirling ball for a second, then comes up an android laying down with a red triangle with an ! in it.
I tried factory reset, started from step 1, locked the bootloader and unlocked and rooted again. If I flash CWM, it will work the first time, but anytime after that my little hazardous android symbol pops up again unless I flash CWM again. I'm new to all this obviously, so any help would be very greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I would recommend just flashing a factory .img threw adb. That should do it.

I agree. This link helped me do it for mine just a few mins ago.

You're not bricked. Flash CWM and then use Root Explorer or another file browser and navigate to /system and delete reboot-from-recovery.p
You will now be able to boot into recovery.
Awesome thanks for the replies you guys are great. The ordeal ended up causing my phone to reject the sim card for some reason...just got back from Verizon. I'm trying the file manager route first but it's telling the file is read only?

Nevermind...hit the r/w...like I said...noob. Checking recovery now thanks again...

What if I don't have the reboot-from-recovery.p file in my /system folder?

Follow the instructions for How to install CWM in this post. Once you've done that, you'll be able to find the reboot-from-recovery.p in /system. Just delete it and you'll be good.
I recently talked to a representative at verizon and they are sending me a replacement phone, I have to send the phone back within 5 days and this is my first time getting a replacement so i dont know how to send it to them (as in what i should do to get it back to stock)
as of now i am:
on stock android W/ root.
I want to know if i should do:
delete all my root apps (and the data they created on the SD card)
Uninstall the super user APK
Change back my boot animation
do a wipe via CWM Recovery
My Concerns:
They will somehow see i was rooted in the past and charge me for the phone.
see that i have CWM recovery on the device
etc.
So my overall question is do you think i can just leave it by deleting all evidence of root (Superuser APK, all root apps and their data (But leave CMW)) or should i tottaly risk bricking the device by using Odin to restore it back to complete stock?
Thanks all help is greatly appreciated!
Wipe your phone.
Flash the stock rom.
Lock your bootloader.
It's pretty easy to return the phone to full stock with the GN Toolkit
Can you point me to where I can find out how to lock the bootloader?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Flash the stock package from here. After you are done falshing all of those, run the following command and you'll be back to stock, unrooted, and locked.
Code:
fastboot oem lock

So, Wipe data/cache/dalvik with CWM
power off
Hold up+down+power
Navigate to fast boot and hit power
Plug into PC
Run GNex Tool kit
Hit flash stock google image
Wait until finished
Hit lock bootloader
Wait to finish
Reboot?

Just download and install Wug's GNex toolkit. Once your drivers are installed 2 clicks and a couple of confirmations your phone is back to stock.
In case I can't post links just google "Wug galaxy nexus"
Yep, I can't. Just google that and go to the first page of the first link.
As long as the phone is back to stock and isn't physically damaged VZ won't give a rat's ass if you rooted it int he past, they don't have that kind of time. Especially with all the returns regarding the charging board.

I've never used the toolkit so I don't know what exact steps you do though.
But yes, the order of wipe, flash image, and lock bootloader is correct.
will this put me back to the original radio i'm on the first 4.0.4 leak...
Get Wug's toolkit at http://www.wugfresh.com/....it took me literally 5 minutes to get it back to stock with locked bootloaer.
All the instructions are included in the toolkit.
I recently got a GSM gNex and last night I decided to upgrade to JB using the OTA links posted here in the forum. I unlocked the boot loader, flashed twrp's recovery, installed SuperSU and then the JB 4.1.1 OTA file and everything went smoothly. Since after the upgrade, on my PC when I connect my gNex, I'm getting a "Fast boot read error" and my PC stopped recognizing the device. I switched to my Mac and got everything I needed done. Why am I here? Obviously I've been able to go into twrp recovery to do a lot of this stuff. But now, anytime I try to go into recovery mode, I get the screen with android lying on back with the exclamation point. I have to flash recovery (I've tried CWM, CWM touch, optimus prime touch) using fast boot every time I have to go into recovery. I tried going to recovery using ROM manager and that gets me to same situation. (Android on back).
Any thoughts?

If 4.1.1 is anything like 4.0.x, you'll have to rename/remove this file: /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
Like the title say I have problem rooting my nexus 7 on Mac.
It's the second one that I have, the first one I got it rooted with techfanatic one click toolkit, but with this one it didn't worked, the only difference that I see is that the one that I have now is on jss15q while when I rooted the other one it was still on jss15j.
So since the one click method haven't worked I tried to do it manually.
I got the latest twrp for flo, the latest super su file and done so:
I navigated in the platform tools, typed ./fastboot OEM unlock selected yes and it unlocked , after I did ./fastboot flash recovery ... and it flashed.
After I pressed start to transfer the super su on my tablet bit it got stuck forever on the x logo.
I tried many times and it didn't worked.
I even tried to wipe data factory reset in twrp but it says failed.
I don't know what to do now, help please.

Does rebooting the bootloader between unlocking and flashing the recovery is necessary, would it make it work?

For what it's worth, I didn't reboot after unlocking and ended up in a boot loop. Doing a factory reset from (stock) recovery fixed that. Rooting went without problems after that.

First I flashed twrp for flo 2.6.1 but it ended up in a black screen so I flashed 2.6.0 and it's fine.
BTW I managed to root it.
What I did is I unlocked the bootloader ./fastboot OEM unlock and what I did different is I booted up the tablet , without flashing straight away the recovery.
After the boot I did a quick setup (WiFi and all that) USB debugging on and transfered the super su 1.55 and after I powered off the tablet and booted up on recovery .
In recovery I flashed twrp 2.6.0 , booted up in twrp recovery and there I flashed the super su and boom, rooted.
I will never use a toolkit anymore , the way to go is manually, also you learn how it all work when you do it manually.

I'M JUST A 11 YEARS OLD!
Yeah,so.. I rooted my phone and flashed AOKP... It's very good rom ,but I'm one of these people who don't know what they want
I opened SUPERSU and i found a option Unroot. Clicked on it and my phone was unrooted. Well... I do the OEM lock but my settings still had the rom options... I tried wipe cache, restoring stock kernel (even i don't know what is that) and I still have the ROM options... Help.. My phone is showing "NFC service stopped." Help me bc I'm in school tomorrow and I need my phone.. Please help me! Really I need help!
Sorry for my bad English! I'm from Bulgaria and I'm learning
You can use fastboot to flash back to stock using an image from here
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
This will wipe the phone!
Or unlock the boot loader again and flash a recovery and a fresh ROM
Good luck!
Use ODIN 1.55 For worst case scenarios. Put phone into fastboot then flash stock image. Or use a toolkit. Should be the problem if you got drivers installed and working.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
From your words I assume you can still power up the phone normally as well as access recovery mode, right? Back up storage contents, do an OEM unlock, flash any stable ROMs around and you should be fine.
