I had a 2.3.4 Incredible, but then was able to downgrade to 2.2, root, and turn S-off, after doing this everything was working perfectly for a few minutes, and then I went to turn on the wifi. Every time I attempt to turn on wifi, it immediately gives me an error. I suspect its not a hardware issue, because I just rooted and what not. I made a backup with clockworkmod before rooting the downgraded 2.2, and then after I managed to root it, I restored that backup. Did that restoration screw up the wifi? 3G works fine, I receive and can make calls and texts, bluetooth works, it just the Wifi error. Also, after downgrading to 2.2 the Inc keeps asking if I want to update, do I? Or will that get rid of my root and S-off and what not? Is it a matter of ROMs? I have been planning on putting on CyanogenMod, will that fix this wifi issue? Thanks
I have screencaps of software info and what not, but apparently I can't post links before I have eight posts. I can tell you radio is 2.15 and Android is 2.2

Flashing cm will probably fix your wifi issue. It sounds like your bcm4329.ko file is messed up. If you want to try and fix it with the rom your already running, try flashing a new kernel. I suggest gingertiny or incredikernel.
Thanks for the quick reply, I'm putting CM on right now, I'll let you know if it helps out.
Yep, flashing Cyanogen worked, thanks for the help

Hey all, long time lurker, first time poster....unfortunately....
So after sitting on MIUI for a good while, and having a blast with it, I decided to try out some other ROMs. I was interested in seeing Cyanogen 6, and so I went about attempting to get the latest stable, non RC ROM onto my EVO. I read into it seeing that I needed to downgrade my hboot, and found the image without a problem (running the .76 right now, had the 9something one before...)
Well, I downgraded my hboot without an issue, flashed the Cyanogen, and got into a splashloop. I figured out it was becaue I hadn't wiped my cache or data before flashing the rom, so I went into the Clockwork Recovery and wiped those, flashed once more, and it booted into Cyanogen perfectly!
Well, almost. I don't have 3G now.
For some reason, I am unable to connect to 3G no matter what I try. My nandroid's broke due to the hboot downgrading, rewiping the cache/data and reflashing cyanogen did nothing, and now for some reason, when I attempt to go back to MIUI, it still will not allow me to connect to 3G. I can send and receive texts, and make and receive calls, but alas, no data connection.
Should I get a fresh RUU and stock hboot, upgrade and restart from scratch? I just want to get back to MIUI at this point with a working, data enabled phone.....
If that's the case, that I do need to start over, where can I find a new hboot for the EVO that isn't .76? I'm pretty saavy when it comes to this stuff, but for some reason right now I just can't figure it out....
HTC EVO running MIUI v0.11 stable
.76 hboot w/ Clockwork recovery
Broken nand backup
whatdo?
Thanks in advance for the help
Sorry for the double post, but I resolved my issue.
I am unsure of what exactly went wrong, but I figured it was somewhere between downgrading my hboot, and flashing the CM 6 stable ROM that my 3G data got scrambled....
So! Using ROM Manager, I made a backup of my working (non 3G) MIUI image, and flashed the Odyxed version of the RUU found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=836728). After flashing in Recovery, it booted into SenseUI, and worked like a charm!
My 3G hath returned, and issues have been solved. It's nice when you're able to fix things on your own, though I couldn't have done it without the help of that handy dandy search button, and the RUU keyword
Oh, yeah, and I guess xxbabiboi228xx as well.....maybe....^_~
Hello everyone,
I've been a lurker here for a bit. Some time ago I used Unrevoked, did something wrong installing the original FroYo update and screwed up my phone. I migrated to the DX in the meantime, but this weekend I wanted to return to the Inc. I successfully revived it after a lot of trial and error.
Now my issue: I have tried several ROMs including SkyRaider and Cyanogen, but my location service is not working. Not in Google maps, search, not for weather widgets, nothing.
I'm not sure if this is related, but I have tried a few different radios thinking that could be the issue, but its not. Also, I can only seem to get a working earpiece with the V1 radios.
Any ideas on how to get my Inc fully functional again?
Thanks.
Try the latest RUU. Short of a brick or hardware problem, that will fix anything.
Search for Bezerker7 and Ultimate get back to stock thread, that'll explain how to flash the RUU and get back to stock, see if location services work on stock 2.2 unrooted, and then you can re-root and flash ROMs.
EDIT: Here's the link.
I'm assuming that this phone is not activated as you have the DX? If its not activated and on the Verizon network then it can only get a location through GPS which may or may not be turned on. I would check to make sure your GPS is turned on in the settings, or use a toggle widget, and then try Google Maps again. I also think the weather widgets don't use GPS as the default and that may have to be set in their settings too. They get their location information from the carrier.

Thanks guys, this worked! Any clue why it happened in the first place?
If you didn't wipe data, then all sorts of crap will happen. You're lucky if you don't bootloop. I bootlooped even when I flashed the same rom and same version over again and didn't wipe data. So maybe it wasn't that.
Maybe it was just something left over, CWM not wiping or something like that.
I really hope it wasn't a hardware defect that subsided for a while
EDIT: Problem Solved
Downloaded Stock Sense 2.2 from here, flashed into that, Reset Data Connection in EPST (Like Here), rebooted and flashed back to CM7. Simple as that!
I realize this may be a bit of repeat thread, But I haven't really got an answer yet.
For reference: I'm running Cm7
Sometime during the day last Thursday, I lost the ability to receive texts. I can send texts, as well as make/receive calls, and data works fine as well. I just can't send them.
Things I've tried include:
Flashing to Stock Sense 2.3
Updating PRL/Profile
Manually installing Radio/PRL/Profile updates
Flashing to a fresh CM7 Install
I also feel like I should add that I tried to open EPST to reset data, but when I enter the code(##3282#) in Phone I get nothing.
Any help would be appreciated, and I'll be on until late tonight as to not keep responders waiting. Thanks.
Go to stock rooted 2.2 or MikG or a custom ROM with the old EPST, the new EPST features less. I just do it on stock 2.2 to avoid any problems when doing the restore. My radios are working, did you flash them individually?

Okay
Downloading MikG right now, going to give that a try.
And I think that may be part of my problem, I just can't get the radio to update. I've attempted to install them as a combo, and separately in both ClockworkMod and Amon_RA several times. I never get any error messages, it just installs, and tells me to reboot, but nothing ever changes.
That's why I'm going to try to Reset Data in EPST. I had heard elsewhere that my MSL doesn't match what Sprint has on file, or something like that, and that resetting data should fix this.
Anyway, Thanks a lot, I'll be back in 10-15 minutes with results!
Partial Success
As soon as Stock 2.2 booted up and got to setup, the texts started pouring in. Not sure what caused this, but it seems at this point like a Gingerbread issue. For good measure I opened EPST and did a data reset and updated PRL/Profile. I'm about to flash back to CM7 and see if the changes carried over.
It worked! It was that simple all along! Thank you! Just sent myself a text via email that I received on CM7!

If you rebooted in between installing each one, the radios should've updated. You might not notice any difference, but it should work. Glad to hear that your problem is solved!
i have tried following the instructions on another thread i found here about trying to fix a 3g issue with the incredible and new roms, but i have not been able to get my 3g back. currently i am running a stock ruu. my system info reads s follows...
Android ver
2.2
baseband ver
2.15.00.07.28
Kernel ver
2.6.32.15-gb7b01d1
htc-kernel @and18-2 #1
build number
3.21.605.1 CL231334 release-keys
software number
3.21.05.1
ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.2
i have rooted again since i ruu'd and have more or less just lived with it while trying to figure it out on my own. it seems to be random sometimes i will be able to look stuff up other times not so much. i know it isn't my service area as i have a work blackberry on verizon and that is fine. does anyone think this could be a software issue or does this sound like hardware. i am really hoping it is software as i have had my incredible since launch and really don't want to get it replaced, lol. i appreciate any help you guys can give me.
could it be the radio i have flashed? i dont know a whole lot about them so i havnt done a whole lot of troubleshooting there. can i go backwards with radio flashing? i just want to be sure before i try that as to not brick.
Does your 3g disappear or drop down to 1x often? You say you tried another thread, could you link me to it so I know what you did OR could you explain what steps you have done to alleviate this?
The typical solution is to flash a stock rom then boot into the rom itself and leave it running for a minute or two, even make a call and check 3g to make sure it's working. Then restore your backup rom and enjoy life. I'll provide you a stock rom link with steps to follow in a few minutes.
found it. i followed this thread and reverted back to stock. still hasn't helped my 3g woes. could having the wrong radio cause these problems?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=817487&highlight=3g+fix
***Edit i generally don't even have the 3G symbol in my notification bar or if it is there like now it just wont connect sometimes. in settings it says mobile network is connected as well

Aight, the rom link in my instructions is this one from RMK40. His link has since gone down. It is the first leaked OTA from last May prior to the flood of gingersense roms.
1. Boot into recovery and perform a Nandroid
2. In recovery, do a Factory reset/Wipe Cache/Wipe Dalvik Cache
3. Flash this
4. Boot into the rom and make a test call. Also check your 3g connection and see if it works. You can run it for ten minutes or an hour if you want to see if the connection fails, although it shouldn't.
5. Reboot into recovery and do Nandroid restore
6. Enjoy.
Post back with your results.
Edit: Here is a reference thread from where I obtained my instructions. I believe you are in the same scenario.

i did a back up, wiped and flashed the rom, twice, both times i got boot loops :-/

I would flash the froyo ruu thru hboot and then reboot. Then go back to hboot and select factory data reset, or boot to the os and go to Menu Settings Sd & phone storage and select factory data reset. Let it do its thing and then reboot. Once it boots up do the ota programing and your 3g should be fixed. Then you can flash cwm recovery thru hboot, and the su binary thru recovery and you will be rooted and ready to flash roms again. I have had this happen several times when using sense 3/3.5 roms ported from sprint phones.
Also that radio is old, from froyo, but that shouldt be the issue. If a factory reset dosent fix it i guess it wouldnt hurt to try updating to the newest radio. Im 95% positive factory reseting the phone from hboot or the settingd menu will fix your 3g. You have to have the stock recovery for the reset to work, that is why you need to ruu again, unless you are already on the stock recovery.
thanks i think this is working i just got done with programming and now i have 3g! gonna stress test it till later tonight i think and then it is off to flashing a new rom! any rom either of you suggest that shouldn't give me these 3g issues?
again thanks so much for your help

It usually happens to me on roms ported from sprint phones, mostly after doing a *228. I would highly advise not to do a *228 on a sprint rom. If you want to be extra cautious i wold just stay away from sprint ported roms all together.
I recently unrooted my EVO to exchange for credit for an upgrade. I decided to keep it as a backup. I was on Hboot 2.18.001 and I rerooted through HTCDev, then PC36IMG to 2.2 to get S-OFF, ending up with Hboot 2.10.001. Somewhere during this rooting process I lost Wifi. When attempting to turn Wifi on, it flickers off and on and reports back that it is unable to scan for networks. In CM7, it causes more problems like force quits and lag. I am using this as a wifi only device as a backup music and game device.
I tried downgrading and upgrading the radios, I tried changing to hboot 2.15.001, I tried different ROMs (AOSP, ICS, Sense, 2.2, 2.3), I tried redoing a PC36IMG, I tried combinations of all of the above. I also tried nandroid restore. Still no Wifi. I am using Smelkusmod recovery.
Currently I am at a stock latest OTA ROM with root.
Any suggestions?
just wondering, did u ever drop it? thats what happened to my evo shift and i couldnt do anything on it other than install roms. i dont remember the version of the firmware but there was one that made wifi useless, meaning like it would turn on and find signals but wouldnt connect. my suggestion is to start from scratch, get the 2.2 ruu stock, before rerooting check to make sure wifi works, if it does then another suggestion would be to follow zedomax's rooting with revolutionary (witch i currently have now). if none of that works then eather sell it for parts or take it to sprint to get a refurbished one.
Good luck!
