So I'm new to the forums here at XDA and I have a quick question.
So I recently dropped my phone and cracked the screen, I have insurance so I'm going to order the replacement soon but before I do I wanted to know are you able to root the new 2.3.6 Epic 4G Touch? I have root on my current phone right now and I can't live without the root. Any helpful information is welcome.
Thank you.
yes there won't be a problem getting root on your new phone. get it replaced.
Thank you for the reply. Do I just use ODIN and follow the same steps as the original Root method?

Everything you need to root is in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728
It is stickied in the Development forum in case you need to find it later.
Thank you so much. I will replace my phone and try it out.

Root for 4.24 ota with hboot 2.16 has not been accomplished. In the meantime you can peruse the thread in my signature. The one about being unrooted.

Or you could have read the rules and did a search first before starting a new post and clogging up the boards and found about 100 threads answering your question. Just my 2 cents. Helping out the newbies.
This has to be the best response so far.

Yep...thinking about keeping that list of topics in a txt doc because we will be answering the same question over and over again forever.
I feel stupid
I am attempting to root my Galaxy S2/ or Epic 4G Touch but looking around there is not a clear way to root it and noticed with this phone its easier to brick this phone. If anyone could leave a link to a good video or a how-to to be able to root my phone would be appreciated.
First - a two year old account, you should know questions go in [email protected]
Second - go here

My advice is to keep looking here and in the Q&A section. The answers you seek are all around the forum and the first step on the path to enlightenment is reading.

This is the video i used. Make sure you are on the latest ics build if you are using his links though. I am use to rooting HTC phones. It is much different than this. The root was a piece of cake it was the recovery that i was confused on. and still am. I used a recovery but i would like to install clockwork if i can. Just haven't tried to find it yet. Always read over the stickies though before u do anything.

You can start your search for info HERE.
And when you are done reading that you can try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473373 . Which is currently the thread right below this one. There's probably literally hundreds of threads here on rooting. You have to read...especially the stickies.
Hello,
I am new to this and would be very greatful for some help. I would like to root my epic but can't seem to find any current root files. I have looked all over the fourm but everything seems to be old and I don't want to brick my phone with the wrong files. If anyone knows of a current root file that would be very helpful. Thank you in advanced for any help.

First Questions go in Q&A
Second you didn't look very hard. Right in the stickies of General section you posted in is the How to root thread.

Odin a CWM 5.0.2.7
Then get a Superuser package (androidsu.com)
Flash that in CWM
As simple as simple can be. Detailed operation and links could.be searched if you seek harder. Good luck

I need to return to stock or a stock like rom so I can give this phone to my brother. Is there a rom that I can use so I can activate the phone through sprint without fully unrooting the phone..
Wow this forum is so helpful and alive..

Please read forum rules before posting.

Thread has been moved. Maybe you will get some help now in the correct section. Remember SEARCH is your friend.
Fyi: phone does not have to be unrooted to be activated. You can do it yourself on the sprint website within your account portal.
Thank you for your future attention to this.
Have a great day!

Wow man, a bit impatient! This is old phone with a small community, you receive help here with patience and with a good attitude.
Either flash deodexed FC09 or reflash stock FC09 and root with a FC09 compatible kernel. Everything is in the Dev forum, so research some.

I've been researching.. and to the guy above if I could get my sprint account working right online I would...
To this post I flashed the fc09 and now my phone is bricked hard core. It won't respond to anything I do..
Ps.. I hate the way this Samsung is setup as in using Odin instead of adb or htcdev..
