You could use Go SMS which has some nice themes. You can find it here.
There are 5 themes pre installed. Open messaging app, press menu button, click setting and choose skin.

Does anyone know if we can download more themes/skins for the messaging app? and if so, where to get them?

Dark Theme for SMS and Contacts

Does anyone know of a dark theme for the built in SMS and Contacts? I was kinda looking to make the two apps follow the same look as the phone dialer. Didn't CM7 give an option for that?

[Req] Themed Cm10 MMS.apk

Looking for the new CM 10 mms.apk with the pop up notification themed in holo blue and black. Maybe even some bubble notifications. Can anyone help me out? I've gone through the tutorials on how to theme your mms and decompiled the apk but upon recompile I always get errors. Anyone have any time to make one for me?
I use this one. Just extract the MMS.apk and push it to system app. Heres the link to his thread:
