What are the next steps in rooting? Follow the usual using Revolutionary? Install CWM manually?
Would appreciate your help folks!
Thanks
Agreed! With the bootlaoder now unlocked, what are the steps to rooting this beast? Do we still need to downgrade? Please pardon my noobness.
You wouldn't need to downgrade, I do know that. But as far as the rest, Idk. I did mine with revolutionary a while back before the 2.3.4 update, so I've been kicking ever since.

I would see if you can install superuser from the market.
EDIT: I would also see if you can install CWM and ROM manager. If all those install ok you should be able to load a custom ROM.

You do not have to downgrade if you unlocked. You should be able to install a new recovery image like Clockwork.

An unlocked bootloader does not equal root.

If I run this, and unlock my incREDible2, what are my next steps to flashing/running some CM7.1 love? TIA
Installed CWM 5.0, superuser and after wiping data/cache and flashing a rom... Stuck at HTC White screen!
Flashed several roms, can't get passed it.
It's frustrating... No idea what to do next. I'm going to try flashing an earlier version of CWM and retry flashing a ROM.
Will update with progress.

How long are you waiting bro..?
First. You should have not used the htcdev garbage. You should have used revolutionary.
That is all.
Sorry I can't help you. I use a ns4g. And that's all I know about the htcdev unlocker

When you flash a custom ROM from CWM on an unlocked HBOOT, you then need to manually extract the boot.img from the custom ROM zip file and manually flash it in Fastboot mode using the command
Fastboot flash boot [path to the boot.img file]
This has been documented multiple times in this forum.

Yes in your case you will need to relock the bootloader in order to flash the RUU/PG32IMG.zip file. You cannot flash a RUU on an unlocked bootloader.
I'm guessing you guys have something other than .98 hboot? I'll find out soon when my wifes replacement comes in but I was not intending to use the HTC unlocker if I didn't have to. I was planning to try the tool attn1 has posted in the dev section unless the hboot changed with the ota.

Good to hear kinda thought it was. I'll be using the method attn1 has posted then. I don't trust the unlock method through HTC for one main reason which is this... Unlocking bootloader and rooting voids warranty as we all know. So what happens when HTC knows your bootloader was unlocked because you used their tool and they have the serial number?

I'm stuck on the white boot screen after trying to flash Miui onto an otherwise functioning incredible 2. I can however access recovery, hboot, fast boot, and all that other good stuff. I unlocked the bootloader via the HTC dev website, which I now hear was a total mistake. To further screw me over, the universe decided that the phone was no longer fit to be detected by my cmd, so I can't use adb or fast boot either. I'm downloading the ruu to see if I can flash it from the sd card, but have no idea if it will work. Do I need to have the bootloader locked? Also, I don't have s-off. Any help is much appreciated, and thanks in advance.

OK. Look here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1435228
you will have to flash the boot.img, using adb now, with unlocked bootloader.
if you are going to flash a RUU you will need to relock bootloader

I've been there with my phone. I though I had bricked it. I was able to get it back. Hopefully you have figured out how by now. I found you can only run a stock kernel with the unlocked bootloader. There are only a few rooted roms you can run with the htc unlock. You can run one of them or obtain s-off. To do that you need to relock the boot loader and follow the instructions to down grade the bootloader. Then you can use the root instructions.
Sometimes I think that HTC tricks people into thinking that there phone has been rooted, and that they can flash ROMs. With the unlock just to teach them not to hack there phones. You are definitely not the only person who has fallen into this hole.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using XDA
You can run ROMs with custom kernels just fine, you just need to extract the boot.img and flash it separately through fastboot.

If you are using revolutionary to root it does everything for you so there would be no need to run an extra su zip. From what you are saying it sounds like you are trying to root.
What is your hboot and what Rom are you running? If you are on stock android unrooted 2.3.4 then you will need to downgrade so you will be able to use revolutionary correctly.
Also do NOT use the HTC unlock for the bootloader. You will not be s-off and will regret it.

Stuck on HTC screen
First I would like to apologize if this is the wrong way to do this as this is my first post as a new member. Please let me know the correct protocal if this is wrong.
I unlocked using HTC bootloader unlock
I rooted Android 2.3.4 using Superoneclick
Deleted Verizon bloatware
I have/had CWM v5.0.2.0-vivow and ROM Manager
Tried to flash custom ROM directly from Rom Manager
Everything seemed like it went well but froze on white HTC screen in reboot
Tried to flash MIUI with CWM and it successfully flashed but stuck on same HTC screen
Tried to restore
Tried to do Factory Data Reset (wiped everything)
Tried the IMG.zip trick and bootloader doesn't read it. (not sure if I have the right ones I need for 2.3.4)
Boots into bootloader and CWM fine but can't get past the HTC screen
Please help or direct me to someone that can so I can SIM unlock for my GF. She has to use a crap phone right now.
I appreciate your time and any effort
1. Htcdev unlock isn't full s off so flashing stuff is more complicated.
2. Name it to PG32IMG.zip
3. You'll get faster replies of you make your own question thread

It's htcdev unlocked
I used ROM manager to download and flash
Then when it froze I tried using CWM to flash MIUI
It said it was successful but still stuck on HTC screen
Try downloading a stock RUU and name it to PG32IMG.zip and put it in the root of your SD card and boot into hboot. Then I would personally suggest going for full s off because flashing ROMs is 10 times easier. But if not, after reverting to stock re flash any ROM you want through whatever process you have to for htcdev unlock

I received an Incredible 2,
*****RELOCKED*******
VIVO_W XB SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT -0.98.0000
Radio- 1.09.01.0312
eMMC-boot
Jul 18 2011
All that it does is get stuck at the HTC screen.
Things that I have tried.
New Ruus
PG32IMG
The phone is recognized in fastboot,
ADB does not recognize the phone.
I have been going through the forum, and websites for the last 4 hours.
Factory Reset reboots the phone and gives me a security warning.
Recovery does the same.
I also get the USB Not recognized error once the phone comes on. I have installed the HTC drivers, I have also installed HTC Sync and have removed it.
Am I stressing and overlooking something simple? Or, do I need to take this phone out back and lay it to rest.
Thank you in advance
Crush
I don't own this phone but how did this happen? I'm assuming your rooted and unlocked if you got s recovery and stuff. And if your recovery works.. just Mount your SD card and transfer a ROM from your PC and flash one.. make sure you flash the kernel too. That or run the ruu

I was given this phone because because it is stuck in the bootloop. Phones come with their own recovery, this isn't a custom recovery. I have tried to run ruus, the error I get is Main version is older. I have also downloaded official stock roms with no luck.
When I hit recovery, the phone reboots back to the bootloader, the recovery never comes up.

Ohh so someone messed it up and just gave it to you for free? Or for you to repair? Either way I don't follow the droid inc2 but maybe im sure its rooted if its in a boot loop so try going into fast boot and go into cmd prompt and try to install a recovery. Look up how to install a recovery through CmD Prompt on the Pc. On my phone can't explain all of it. And then just transfer over a ROM probably cm9 and follow the instructions
Unless you want to go back to stock? Not sure if you know about ROMs and kernels?

Thats exactly what happened, it was given to me to me in this condition, and if I can fix it I will get paid for doing so.
Yes, I am familiar with roms, and kernels, I currently use an Evo 4g with Swagged out Stock X 2.0.9.8
Ive also rooted and flash cm7 on plenty of phones, I even have cm7 on my HP Touchpad.
I can't for the life of me figure this out. It has me highly intrigued. I am known for stressing out and overlooking minor small steps, so I wanted get some input from the community.
I currently have fastboot open, I am not entirely familiar with the Incredible 2, but normal case S-on = none rooted from my experience.
it was devunlocked then relocked i believe, from the error message i believe you are not flashing the right ruu, you are trying to flash an older one, you need the newest one, it was released a few months ago if i recall correctly and it was no big update but thats the one you need, search for it and try it it should work. if you are s on you cant flash a older ruu than whats already on it

Your radio is .0312, so you won't be able to flash an RUU, they're all older. Can you recognize it in fastboot mode? Try unlocking again with HTCdev, then flashing a custom recovery and ROM.

Hboot .98 isn't compatible with revolutionary, only .97 is, but that doesn't make a difference anyways because you can't run revolutionary if you can't boot the phone.

Hey I posted another post and got some new info but it didn't help the current situation. I have a m8 with lollipop on it...I flashed it using the ruu. Well I can't seem to be able to flash recovery in order to install custom Rom. It says no remote access. When it's in boot loader it says the software is official and relocked. Well I used sunshine on it when I first got it and worked like a charm. Until I went back to stock and did an update from Verizon. I did a flash of a new CID. What am I doing wrong or missing? I tried using htcdev but it says too long or too short of identifier token...which I've tried multiple times....
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
I think by flashing the ruu, you have relocked your bootloader and now you are probably not rooted either. I'm in the same boat my friend. I bought a HTC m8 that is android ver. 5.0.1, which there is not even root accessible unless you know someone that has an HTC s-off java card.
Yeah I'm not rooted or anything...I might try using sunshine again and see if I can get it done that way
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
Sunshine did work. They updated it. I now am rooted, and have skydragon rom installed! Love it! Especially for the Dolby surround audio. I wish there was just a apk for it to work with stock roms
