Well, right now I have the T-Mobile MyTouch 4G.... My wife and I went into a T-Mobile store today and they informed us of a new plan they had that would save us about $100 a month. So, me, being the person I am, asks if the new plan will mess up my upgrade for my phone.... And lucky me.... Instead of waiting another 8 months for an upgrade, the new plan will actually allow me to upgrade then
So, long story not so short...
I am debating between the Samsung Galaxy S2, OR the HTC Amaze.... I was just curious as to why, if you already own the S2, you would or would not suggest it to someone? Thanks for any input in advance!
SGS2 hands down, best phone out for T-Mobile right now.

I expected biased answers... That is why I posted the same thing on the Amaze forum... What I am looking for is a more in depth on WHY people love their phone's so much... And what are the big things for them to keep them.
From a development standpoint, our SGSII has more support, kernels, roms and themes than the Amaze. Also CM has been confirmed for our phone as Cyanogen said it himself. I'm not exactly sure for the amaze as I don't visit their forums often. Imo, SII is the way to go if you like a variety of roms to choose from.
Sent from my Galaxy S II
HTC has horrible quality control, their battery life on the amaze is ****, it's ugly, bleeding key lights, it's ugly, it's a sensation in a new case overclocked to 1.5.
The galaxy s2 is beautiful and the screen is awesome. It does have the vertical lines, but I think those can be fixed with a software tweak. The battery is crazy good and the phone has no bleeding key lights. Also the amaze is ugly, did I mention the amaze is ugly?

Well, I am known to jump ROMs every now and again... I was just happy to see they have already rooted the Amaze... I have already noticed that developmentally, the SII has a very strong backing whereas the Amaze lacks.
I see in your sig you had the mytouch... What is the pros/cons from the mytouch to SII?

I so far have loved every single HTC device I have ever owned.... (Ok, I take that back... The HTC Shadow sucked balls... Damn Windows phones) I also don't think the Amaze is that bad of a looking phone... What vertical lines are you talking about... I had read about the screen bleed on the Amaze, but I haven't read anything about vertical lines
I went SGII for divx support. I guess it's not really a big deal though to most but to me it was.
I think the SGII will have a longer life than the Amaze because of developer support.
Plus I had heard that battery life on the amaze is pretty horrible. I wanted to make it through a day of work.

I've had the sensation that's the same thing as the amaze but looks better and the galaxy s2 is way better.
All this thread will do as well as the one in the amaze forum, is create a fan boy type flaming. You'll see.

So it's pretty much just the random things that can happen with any phone if you just happen to get the bad apple? And I really don't mean for it to become that, if it does, I apologize to the community... I should just change it to, tell me what you love about your phone, and what you think a con is, if it has any... And leave out the story behind it
sgs2 all the way!! just read both forums and u will see
LOL
way to convince yourself to get a SGS2, posting in this forum you'll know the answer will be biased
You pretty much already know you want the SGS2, but you want to reaffirm the believe by finding out if there's any issues you should know about.
if you check the sticked INDEX you'll find out most of the issues
hope that helps!

You should definitely get the gs2. I came from the sensation and this is a way better phone. I know the amaze has the bump up in ram and the better camera (compared to the sensation) but I guarantee this phone will blow it out of the water. The sensation I had had no problems besides overheating so I was skeptical about the gs2 being that much better but it is. I also like the build quality of the gs2 which I didn't think I would. Oh another thing is sense is such a memory hog and the novelty of it was cool for the first week but after that I wanted aosp bad. So yea I think you should just go with the gs2 you won't regret it. And the vertical lines aren't really an issue its there but not noticeable in everyday use. I can really say that besides the vertical lines this phone has been perfect.

I had the amaze, I brought it back on the 13th day of my remorse period and got the sgs2. Best thing I've ever done! Hands down a better phone. Actually, best device I've ever had, and I come from a long line of HTC devices, but I am now a fan of Samsung, and even touch wiz if you can believe it. I'd recommend the

MKV
I can plug in my one gig hard drive full of 720p mkv movies and play them with out a problem what so evar! My tegra2 transformer cant do that, nor can my playstation, or my 360. Not sure about the amaze. One thing I am sure of between the two we will be getting ICS well ahead. With no crappy overlay, not that I dont like sense, just no point of it. With ICS all widgets are scrollable.
Coming from a sensation,.the sgs2 is a great improvement. The amaze to me is an ugly phone. The amaze also seemed extremely heavy. I could see chipping the elevated glass on the phone, and after going through several sensations, same as the amaze, with different problems well enough said. I'm extremely happy with the sgs2.

You have to know what you want in a phone to make your decision. Both phones has its pros and cons.
Galaxy S II Pros vs Amaze 4g:
Longer battery life, larger screen, louder speaker, does not/barely overheats, 2 megapixel front facing camera, better video playback/audio, no death grip issue with signal (both wifi and data), lighter materials with a premium feel means you can hold the phone in your hand for long periods of time without strain.
Galaxy S II Cons vs Amaze 4g:
Screen resolution isn't as great as the Amaze, the design looks much more rich on the Amaze, the Amaze has a slightly better camera especially in low lighting, the Galaxy S II does not have hardware camera and camcorder buttons like on the Amaze, No LED notification.

Hi,
Ive owned the s2 and a sensation xe , i liked the s2 however all the ones i tested had a pink spot on camera and yellow tint on screen left side, this was a month ago.
Anyhow i can get this phone on a super deal the lack of micro sd does not bother me and tbh im i dont think im to bothered about the camera either. That being said im eager to know if anyones upgraded over the s2 and what there views might be in relation to size and the new screen. Also iw as curious how much of the 16gb memory you have free for to actually use upon first boot ?
Im sorry if these questions have been asked but i have searched here and been watching endless youtube vids as well as reading various reviews. And would appreciate the feedback of people here
Depends how much you can get the Galaxy Nexus for?
The $700+ price tag is what drove me off and i just opted for the white Galaxy S II for about $400+ and saved the money to fund a future purchase.
The Galaxy Nexus is more of a side upgrade than a full upgrade, the Galaxy S III will be the full upgrade.
If you can get it cheap, then go for it. If not, its not really worth upgrading from an SGS II. Considering we should get ICS stable port soon hopefully with the great dev community we have and it would run better than on the GN in terms of plain hardware speed.
The GN screen can't be matched though, its beautiful
GN SGSII
I just got my GN a few days ago and my impressions are:
The phone feels slightly bigger, but only because it's thicker. But it feels much better in your hand.
the screen clarity is insane. I thought SGSII was amazing, but this is really something else.
I think having had a lot of time using a SGSI, I can totally tell that the screen is pentile/super AMOLED, not PLUS. But the resolution more than makes up for it.
Camera is acceptable. It's definitely no SGSII but it's not totally dismal either.
1080p is awesome. And the funny distortions that you get with google talk/video recording is a fun feature.

Really appreciate the feedback thanks , i can get this phone for free same as sII with no increase to my line rental or contract , the main thing thats doing it for me on this phone is the resolution i wasent to keen on the gsII previously due to the yellow tint screen issues and pink spot. That being said im sure if you can get a working one it would be great.
fade1d can i ask you please how much memory you have free of the 16gb when you first boot ...
you have around 13gb on first boot.
If you can get either one free with your contract, go for the Galaxy Nexus.
Simple choice when you put it that way.
Camera won't be a problem, you should be using a point and shoot or DSLR if you want to take real photos anyway.
Since this is the Galaxy Nexus Forum, I'm going to say go with the Galaxy S II
I'm going for the GNex because of the awesome screen and it's on Verizon.

lol....your on verizon. Im pretty sure we're talking about the GSM version as the OP states he had the SII and Sensation.
To get the GSM version, you have to import it and the cheapest price is from handtec which is $700
How the hell are you getting a Nexus for free?
I have the SGS II and for me it was clear the Galaxy Nexus was for me. The camera is the only thing I will really miss for the extra details but will love the zero shutter lag from the Nexus.
Don't play that much games on the phone so nothing major there either for me.
I'm going to love the faster updates and all the small details of what the Nexus really is.

again thanks for replys all 13 GB first boot is a bit of a wounder most my mp3 from other phone would fill that so i will have to think about that point and how important that could be be. On another note i can get samsung nexus for free becouse i have been given extra allowance in my upgrade due to getting messed around by my current phone providor they sent me 4 sII all refurbished when they was supposed to be brand new (it was a massive mess about).
Reason I would go for the GN is updates direct from Google and not having to wait for Samsung to get them and integrate them with there touchwiz crap.
Hated touchwiz on my GS2 and for me this is the first version of android you don't need a different launcher and stock Android is the dogs.
I got one off someone in the selling section of this forum.
And as for touchwiz..............thats why your on XDA developers, to root the phone and put custom roms on etc so you don't have touchwiz. But the thing i will say is, the reason why the GS II was so fast and still it when it came out was because of touchwiz and all the hardware acceleration samsung implemented.
The browser is probably one of the smoothest if not the best out there right now.

You didn't have to root though did you just install launcher pro or Go launcher for example, my point is I don't need those launchers with ICS.
I can't say I come across any problems with the browser on this phone, its fast and smooth and I never used Flash anyway always disabled it.

lol...whats the fun of not putting customs roms on. They usually make the phone run better anyway. People with Nexus phones still root and put custom roms on their phones.
I never said the galaxy nexus browser was slow. It's definitely smooth and fast because ICS implemented hardware acceleration finally and the ICS framework totally reworked the browser so that its loads better than the old ones. In terms of speed and loading, it's the fastest out there, it has the lowest sunspider scores of any phone right now and in terms of smoothness, its probably on par with the GS II but i haven't used one.
Reviews said ICS in terms of perceived speed its a tad slower than the GS II and galaxy note

The custom hardware acceleration was one of the reasons for SGSII being so fast, but ICS brings this natively, so both the GN and SGSII are the same.
I'd pick the GN just for the beautiful HD screen. Outside of that, there isn't much difference.
I recently had to make this choice and went GN.
I haven't seen comparison pics but at the end of the day bumping up the megapixles doesn't equal better photos.
Yes there are custom roms and what not but I know from having my SG1 that the amount of closed source things samsung include in the phone makes it more difficult for people to get things like cyanogen running (of course thanks to awesome people they did it anyway )
Its just looks a really polished device and i heard so many people say if you hand tried a pure android device you should... so I am
well as i've said......galaxy nexus is the way to go if your upgrading from something thats not an SGS II. Otherwise its more of a sidegrade than an upgrade. And doesn't seem worth the money as of right now (it will get cheaper of course)
Just note many people get this wrong, even though the Galaxy Nexus is a pure android phone.....doesn't mean all the things are open sourced. Some of the hardware in it may still be closed source like audio or something. The Galaxy S phones are open sourced but some of the parts in the hardware aren't which is why it's not always easy to do AOSP on the phones. Just a note
What's you honest opinion? Is it getting CM9? Should I get the Galaxy S2?

had mine for about 2 weeks and it is a love hate. love the screen, hate the battery. love the possibility (development/ics), hate the current reality.
my wife got skyrocket and comparing the two, nitro screen wins hands down! clear crisp and realistic colors. sgs2sr is much smoother software wise and battery is what you qould expect, full day with lite use. nitro get 8 hours lite use.
after a few days i was ready to switch to skyrocket... but i am going to hang with it. the negatives are not great enough to give up this screen. plus skyrocket does not feel as good in the hand.
that probably doesnt help much... if you can go look at both.

No one knows yet as it is still waiting for the CWM to be built, if you feel you can wait for the custom ROMs, CWM etc then get one if you wish, or if you need something right away then the SGSII is the other road to travel. There are several posts about your question, for example:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1390399
I needed a new phone after my Atrix 4G bluetooth/wifi chip broke down. The real choices were really iPhone 4S, Skyrocket, HTC Vivid and LG Nitro. One look at iPhone screen and it was out. It almost seems like a kid toy. I had Skyrocket for a week and I returned for few reasons. I read a lot and the screen was washed out in comparison to the original S2 that my wife has. I have a little kid and I take a lot of pics. Skyrocket camera always produced pics that were a little out of focus. The third strike was that Skyrocket audio produced a lot of hissing through the headphones. Fourth, I was not so convinced that xda scene would embrace Skyrocket like they did with the European ver of S2. This phone was released in the US 6 months too late. Vivid was out just simply it felt like holding a soap box. Now Nitro HD. Screen for reading is simply amazing. After rooting, hard reset, GO Launcher I can get to the performance and look I need. I like how the phone is feels in my hand. The battery is a problem and I would not chose this phone if I was still travelling too much but with a combination of a spare battery and a car charger I focus more on enjoying the phone without busting a sweat. The baterry life still seems better than EVO 4G. If you need to stick with this phone for the next two years I would wait for something like 4.5 inch 720p quad core Tegra 3, 2 gb RAM, LTE, 2.2f dual flash 12mp marvel that will come out closer to the mid year. If you need a phone for 6-9 months this phone will hold you over just fine. Just dont expect a lot of mods. If this phone will get a support it will be closer to the level of Atrix.
Sent from my LG-P930 using xda premium
Lastly Skyrocket doesn't have Gorilla Glass. Nitro HD does.

Cool. I've read horrible reviews about the battery. How has it been for you? The different between the 2 screens doesn't bother me.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using xda premium
I have been getting about 12 hours with moderate use now. The battery has improved over the course of first 2 weeks of owner ship with repeated charges. I am talking about LTE, GPS, BT on all the time. When I say moderate probably 30 min calls, 20 sms, 1 hour of screen time browsing and stuff.
This is honestly the best phone I have used. Screen is a beauty. Everything just works. I used GPS on a recent west coast trip which involved at least 5 hours of GPS use. It was dead on. I can lock in the middle of a grocery store. Unfortunately the battery life isn't great. I rate it as mediocre. When I expect to be out for a long time, I switch to my Inspire 4G.
Also there is a stigma associated with LG brand.
The dev support is to be determined. Good thing is that this is a flagship model and there are different international versions available to broaden the hopes of more international dev support.
If you were to pick between the current AT&T LTE lineup, I would definitely recommend Nitro HD. I think if you wait another month or so, the Samsung Galaxy Note or the Sony's rumored 720p phone may get released. Again just speculations.
I agree this is probably the fastest GPS lock that I have ever seen.
Sent from my LG-P930 using xda premium
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this device to anyone looking for a flagship smartphone. Maybe not ideal for the road warrior running around searching for an LTE signal with the screen on playing an HD game but that is more about the battery than the phone.
And unfortunately, any leading-edge phone like this is going to have battery issues simply because battery tech has not kept up with the blistering pace these devices are moving forward. Now if these devices ran on petrol, WOW!
it's going to be a few years before batteries catch up to these devices. So it will be much much worse with the new quad-core smartphones that are poised on the horizon.
With a very heavy use, screen on 100%, browsing, LTE about 4.5 hours.

Yes to clairify... I would highly recommend this device, especially over skyrocket. Put the two screens side by side and you will be 100% sold! After watching 720p movies/anime I am so in love with this screen. LTE is incredible too. Yesterday I was getting 14Mbps up AND down! I have hit 20s and 30s consistently.
A little laggy, yes. Battery hog, hell yes. My hope is both of those are addressed by ICS and/or the XDA Dev community !
And yes, the battery life does sucks! Worst I have ever seen since I ran Android from my SD card on my HD2. Charger at desk and charger in car is required - or one of those portable chargers... something cuz you will not make it thru the day.
Actually as oppose to original gs2, skyrocket is unable to play mkv smoothly. There is a lot of threads about that in the divx forum.
Nitro HD on the other hand handles them very well through the stock player.

omg are you kidding me? you post this in the gs2 forums... wtf do think the answer is going to be
In all honesty the s2 is better, in my opinion and for my needs. I had an amaze and traded it for the s2 and it was the best phone decision I ever made. Its faster with better download times. Feels better in hand. Has a better screen. I think the build quality is better and it is a lot easier to mod. But it all really comes down to personal preference.

I'm just asking the cons and pros. I also posted this in amze forum

I came from a htc amaze 4g i honestly miss the phone.First thing the amaze have better resolution screen, the t989 colors look over saturated. The amaze have the captive lights bleed threw and bad battery life. With the t989 i have a d30 case and callers complain they hear themselves echo i wouldnt say its a defect in the phone id say my case is,but you never know. The t989 has better dev its a lil more popular. All in all id say the sammy because better battery life is a major plus. Also the amaze is smaller and heavier but the build quality's like a Porsche and the galaxys s2 feels like a Civic lol..

Good Question. I wish I had the Amaze to play with for a couple of weeks. I love the way it looks and feels, but I also heard there are issues gaining root on some of those phones(I didn't dig too deep).
I love my SGS2. Love the screen, love the specs and after all is said and done it is usually cheaper and with the right case it can look very hot. I don't think the better resolution would be that noticeable on a daily basis. Super Amoled Plus is sweet and easy to see in daylight.
I wish I could have both...oh well.
At the end of the day let him decide so he doesn't blame you for the decision
Good question because this has never been discussed before
Amaze was buggy as hell for me. Browser would reset on its own, random reboots, just not that great. Gs2 smokes it in my opinion. Everything just seems quicker with the gs2.
via my bleached S2
Some things to take into consideration for both phones
The dev community
Cpu
Screen
How long ago did it come out? (Usually there's a better phone every 6 months)
What are YOU looking to do with your phone?
Do you have big hands? (Bigger screen is better for bigger handed people)
Most phones have a lot in common, so I would try and look for the problems with each phone. Here we have the lines (I have never seen them, but apparently they are there?)
Battery life.
Again, I cant stress this enough, dev support!
You chose 2 great phones. I have the sgs2 and I love it! I havent tried the amaze, but I have had 2 flagship htc phones and they usually are good. But both I had have had horrible battery life...

Iphone jk i chose samsung because i dropped me sendation from my knee point to tje ground and screem broke. Yea it feels good in hand but the con is it makes your phone heavy due to using aluminum and etc. Amaze is even heavier than sensation. I went to the tmobile store and held the amaze and it was heavy..i felt like it would not survive any drops. So i got gs ii

Okay I was going to add more stuff just in case others are looking.. and since there are like 2 other threads with 30+ pages of this stuff... but to narrow it down
owner of an amaze for 2 months prior to owning the gs2 for 2 months
BUILD Quality: one's preference...
They're both great build quality just depends on your preference... people consider the gs2 to be "manlier" based on the size.. the amaze is more conforming in the hands... and well I actually don't prefer one over the other except with the gs2 i can be like... look at my giant 4.5" screen *****es and its white... lol
Screen: Resolution vs Super Amoled.
Amaze's resolution makes things more eye popping and more beautiful.. the colors are actually more accurate... BUT washed out when viewing at angles... that bothered me more than having a lower resolution screen and the beauty of the s amoled screen viewing at angles makes me feel like i'm getting what i paid for.
For comparison.. it's like the older model laptops with lcd that looks horrible at angles vs the LED backlit ones we have today.
Battery life: Gs2 doubles Amaze's battery life
Before any Amaze users bashes this. Ask any former Amaze users who has converted... I'm not exaggerating.
I'm not saying Amaze's battery is HORRID.. they're decent with about 2.5 average display time on low brightness
BUT gs2 averages 4-5 hours... off stock too.
Camera: no contest: AMAZE wins this one.. plus they have a dedicated button. It's just a better built camera. I miss it. Amazing night time shots and macro shots. but I choose gs2 over Amaze because of battery.
Get both lol......I just trade My spare iPhone 4 for a HTC amaze....nor I have a sgs2 and the amaze....honestly I can't say which of better because I keep switch the phones lol

I've had my HTC Sensation since around the time of launch. I really like it and am enjoying it. I however have the choice to upgrade to the S II for a very nice price. A mixture of renewing my contract and a discount due to a customer service issue. My Sensation is running an ICS ROM. So I'd plan on rooting/flashing it to unlock the full potential.
I'm just wanting feedback on the device and the ROM scene for it. I checked out the ROM section and see some pretty neat ROMs.
Thanks
SII is beast but no ics yet.

No ics just yet but my s2 is way better than my sensation was.

If it were me, especially with the S3 "sort of" around the corner, the SII is not a worthy upgrade. Especially considering your Sensation is still one of the best phones in the market (better than the Amaze 4g imo).

I don't know about you but if you wanted a new phone, 6+ months is a long time to wait. Especially if you wanted it right away. I wouldn't expect US carriers to carry the phone christmas time. Heck, initially I wanted the nexus because of the larger screen, but I got fed up with waiting. Don't think T-Mo will get the nexus until Q4 either so you're in for a hell of a wait for the S III.
I don't really see the T989 as a huge upgrade from the Sensation at all. Dev support from the Sensation is honestly miles above this phone, and the processor/GPU are more or less the same. You're getting AMOLED, at the cost of resolution. Better camera sure, but that's nit picking specs imo.
T989 is a great all around phone, but the Sensation isn't exactly behind. I'm honestly completely jealous of the dev support that they have.
When you upgrade, you extend your contract, pushing your NEXT upgrade further away. Would it be an upgrade? Yeah, it would. But I just don't see it being worth it.
Plus, if you were to spend money on phones, why not actually pick up the latest? I can almost guarantee the next S3 WILL be pentaband, so expect it to work on the T-mo network (unlike the International S2). Furthermore, I'm looking at the Huawei Ascend Quad XL in complete envy. 720p screen in a 4.5" frame, 2500 mah (!) battery, and a homebrew quad-A9 offering >30% performance over Tegra 3.
I came from a sensation and I really miss the dev support. There is a good selection of roms here but all touchwiz. The lack of aosp and miui really sucks. But the phone overall is amazing. I get way better battery life than I ever got on the sensation. Currently running Juggs 5.0 and get around 24 hours of battery per charge. My speeds are are faster about 14 mbs compared to about 8 mbs on the sensation. So unless you're a flashaholic I would say go ahead and get the gs2. If you're somebody that can pick a great rom and stick with it then it's an upgrade Imo. If aosp or miui are a necessity then stay with the sensation.

Considering I have both, I wouldn't upgrade to S2. If your dying to upgrade just wait for the S3 international version. The S2 camera sucks compared to the sensation. The larger display is fine as long as you pull it down to 200 or 180. I do love the S2 a lot and I'm not a big fan of ICS so knowing the stuff I know about the new S3 and all its awesomeness I'm going to pass since I already have a S2 and just not enough there for me to cough up 600 bucks. I'm going to wait till Q4-Q-1 for Samsungs flex displays to come out. I would recommend you root your sensation and then go play and wait. You have to rem that your new phone is the same so the only diffence is screen size.

It's nowhere near the same, different screen size, NFC, HDMI Out, USB Host, lighter, slimmer, native flac support, much better front facing camera, no dust under the screen, no grip of death..........the list could go on and on.
I love my hercules. Running paradox rom with drebeats theme. Very awesome.
