Thinking about getting one. - LG Nitro HD

What's you honest opinion? Is it getting CM9? Should I get the Galaxy S2?
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda premium

had mine for about 2 weeks and it is a love hate. love the screen, hate the battery. love the possibility (development/ics), hate the current reality.
my wife got skyrocket and comparing the two, nitro screen wins hands down! clear crisp and realistic colors. sgs2sr is much smoother software wise and battery is what you qould expect, full day with lite use. nitro get 8 hours lite use.
after a few days i was ready to switch to skyrocket... but i am going to hang with it. the negatives are not great enough to give up this screen. plus skyrocket does not feel as good in the hand.
that probably doesnt help much... if you can go look at both.

No one knows yet as it is still waiting for the CWM to be built, if you feel you can wait for the custom ROMs, CWM etc then get one if you wish, or if you need something right away then the SGSII is the other road to travel. There are several posts about your question, for example:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1390399

I needed a new phone after my Atrix 4G bluetooth/wifi chip broke down. The real choices were really iPhone 4S, Skyrocket, HTC Vivid and LG Nitro. One look at iPhone screen and it was out. It almost seems like a kid toy. I had Skyrocket for a week and I returned for few reasons. I read a lot and the screen was washed out in comparison to the original S2 that my wife has. I have a little kid and I take a lot of pics. Skyrocket camera always produced pics that were a little out of focus. The third strike was that Skyrocket audio produced a lot of hissing through the headphones. Fourth, I was not so convinced that xda scene would embrace Skyrocket like they did with the European ver of S2. This phone was released in the US 6 months too late. Vivid was out just simply it felt like holding a soap box. Now Nitro HD. Screen for reading is simply amazing. After rooting, hard reset, GO Launcher I can get to the performance and look I need. I like how the phone is feels in my hand. The battery is a problem and I would not chose this phone if I was still travelling too much but with a combination of a spare battery and a car charger I focus more on enjoying the phone without busting a sweat. The baterry life still seems better than EVO 4G. If you need to stick with this phone for the next two years I would wait for something like 4.5 inch 720p quad core Tegra 3, 2 gb RAM, LTE, 2.2f dual flash 12mp marvel that will come out closer to the mid year. If you need a phone for 6-9 months this phone will hold you over just fine. Just dont expect a lot of mods. If this phone will get a support it will be closer to the level of Atrix.

Lastly Skyrocket doesn't have Gorilla Glass. Nitro HD does.
Sent from my LG-P930 using xda premium

Cool. I've read horrible reviews about the battery. How has it been for you? The different between the 2 screens doesn't bother me.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using xda premium

I have been getting about 12 hours with moderate use now. The battery has improved over the course of first 2 weeks of owner ship with repeated charges. I am talking about LTE, GPS, BT on all the time. When I say moderate probably 30 min calls, 20 sms, 1 hour of screen time browsing and stuff.
This is honestly the best phone I have used. Screen is a beauty. Everything just works. I used GPS on a recent west coast trip which involved at least 5 hours of GPS use. It was dead on. I can lock in the middle of a grocery store. Unfortunately the battery life isn't great. I rate it as mediocre. When I expect to be out for a long time, I switch to my Inspire 4G.
Also there is a stigma associated with LG brand.
The dev support is to be determined. Good thing is that this is a flagship model and there are different international versions available to broaden the hopes of more international dev support.
If you were to pick between the current AT&T LTE lineup, I would definitely recommend Nitro HD. I think if you wait another month or so, the Samsung Galaxy Note or the Sony's rumored 720p phone may get released. Again just speculations.

I agree this is probably the fastest GPS lock that I have ever seen.
Sent from my LG-P930 using xda premium

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this device to anyone looking for a flagship smartphone. Maybe not ideal for the road warrior running around searching for an LTE signal with the screen on playing an HD game but that is more about the battery than the phone.
And unfortunately, any leading-edge phone like this is going to have battery issues simply because battery tech has not kept up with the blistering pace these devices are moving forward. Now if these devices ran on petrol, WOW!
it's going to be a few years before batteries catch up to these devices. So it will be much much worse with the new quad-core smartphones that are poised on the horizon.

With a very heavy use, screen on 100%, browsing, LTE about 4.5 hours.

Sorry, but ouch....good luck with that.

Wait! The galaxy note is coming..... The phone of many dreams lol. Its 5.3in of pure samoled goodness ahhh. I would get this too but the note has everything.... Including a booming development. Wish this phone luck, its a great one. Use your one month trade in for that! It is way better then that skyrocket.

We don't know when it's coming, could be March, could be April, maybe even later.
Edit: Just to add...Yeah, the Note is a beast of a device, but it's going to be released around the same time the new quad core device(s) are released. So that's something to think about as well.

Too big...
I'm sticking with my Nitro. Since bringing it back from the dead, I've grown quite attached

Ditto. I'm doing just fine with the launcher and keyboard replacements. Too bad the Qualcomm processor eats the battery like a pig though.

There should be a road map for all the new device release dates next week in CES.

Yes to clairify... I would highly recommend this device, especially over skyrocket. Put the two screens side by side and you will be 100% sold! After watching 720p movies/anime I am so in love with this screen. LTE is incredible too. Yesterday I was getting 14Mbps up AND down! I have hit 20s and 30s consistently.
A little laggy, yes. Battery hog, hell yes. My hope is both of those are addressed by ICS and/or the XDA Dev community !
And yes, the battery life does sucks! Worst I have ever seen since I ran Android from my SD card on my HD2. Charger at desk and charger in car is required - or one of those portable chargers... something cuz you will not make it thru the day.

Actually as oppose to original gs2, skyrocket is unable to play mkv smoothly. There is a lot of threads about that in the divx forum.
Nitro HD on the other hand handles them very well through the stock player.

Is this phone still a super phone?

After all the hype that surrounded this phone on the first week of launch, I now pose a question. After reading some of the comical titles on this forum, like "the perfect phone" Samsung out did themselves" "the super phone" Do one still consider this phone a super phone? Or is it over hyped by us here on this forum?

Dont get me wrong there are some minor issues that an update can fix but all and all, this is the best phone i ever had,my last phone was an evo and b4 that a hero and b4 that an iphone.Best phone period,i made the mistake of getting an iphone 4s and returned on the first day very boring os nothing to an iphone after u get used to android.
Definitely the best smartphone out to date. Fastest, lag free, great display. But of course new and better things are always on the horizon...

Very happy with the ET4G. Love the thin design and big screen.
Definitely the best phone I've had. Last 3 phones I've owned are the Evo, NS4G, and the Evo3D and this is a great phone.
This is hands down THE Super Phone, that is until the Next Big Thing is released and that will become The Super Phone.
Yep its a super phone
Not so sure the Prime will be enough of a upgrade to switch but will find out tonight. I really like TW4 for some reason
I've had the moment, evo, epic, nexus s, and the evo3d and I can personally say this smokes em all. Instant everything, you can hear your phone actually ring and there is that whole non-existant lag thing. If this would have been my first android some one would have had to explain to me what lag actually meant. Battery life is phenomenal, I get about 14 hours with heavy use and haven't gotten home with under 50%. In my opinion this baby will be worth having untilled the quad cores start dropping.

DEF "THE Superfone"...
I was between the Evo 3D and GSII. Went with the 3D because I liked HTC. My mistake. Took 3d back after 3 days paid 35 dollar restocking fee and got GSII. The 3d is supposedly a superfone and this beast blows the 3d away. Will it be a superfone in 6-12 months? No.
Yes this is a beast, best phone I've owned to date.
This is my third dual core phone (had LG Thrill and still have an Atrix) and it absolutely eats the others alive. The Thrill only has 1/2 the ram and I'm not impressed with the omap or tegra chips. My Atrix running CM7 beta and overclocked to 1.3ghz can't touch my stock Epic Touch for smoothness and fluidity.

Yep, it is a super phone. We tend to hold onto ours for a couple years before changing so this is my first 'real' android phone. I did run Android on my TP2, the word lag doesn't even start to describe it.
This phone is everything it is hyped to be. Beautiful, fast, light.

My gnex comes tomorrow after two rezounds overheating to 150° after ten min of game play. Still an awesome phone. Just hope my gnex doesn't have signal problems
As a former Rezound owner... Gnex all the way!
I've had 3 htc devices.. not big on sense and it's a resource hog. Without s-off on that device, nexus wins hands down.. with s-off, it's much closer.
And the Gnex is just sexy...

**** haters? Sounds like you were hatin on the op there bud. Guy just wants to have a fun convo chill out
I was a rezound owner, i was sold on it. I even rationalized before the Nexus was close to a reality that the camera was way better, and the screen was way better on the nexus.. those things have barely been much better if at all, with the camera i just take 5 pictures for every one i coulda took with the rezound and it will be better...
but here's the thing my rezound experience irritated me, i hated that phone. I went through 2, and tried my friends and all 3 had headphone jack problems. Terrible hardware grounding whine issues.. maybe your average person wouldnt notice it but anyone who really truly appreciates sound, and not the beats kinda sound, but the kind who appreciates good flat levels on the eq will probably hear the whining and beeping...
I returned 2 rezounds, and got my Galaxy Nexus, and honestly am so glad i did, this phone is amazing in every way.
Rezound is typical HTC which is to say bloated, fat, and troublesome. I have used a Thunderbolt from the first day and have regretted it. Never HTC again.
The RAZR is a good piece of hardware if you can deal with an inferior screen and no removable battery.
Are all of the Rezounds so laggy? I was playing with one up at Verizon and noticed it was just chugging through home screens. I don't think it even had a LWP active at the time. The performance of the unit just didn't impress me, and having GB again doesn't either. I also want a strong development group and I see that phone being quiet in that regard.

i work for verizon, and believe me i've played with all the devices, (more than any of you guys here, trust me). Each phone has their pro's and cons, but the honest truth is that the Galaxy Nexus is a superior, special phone.
PERSONAL THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS:
HTC Rezound: Great screen, nice cameras.. but felt like a beefed thicker version of my sensation.
Moto Droid razr: Extremely thin, durable, FAST phone. The display honestly sucks. The customers don't see it, but of course us Android users notice the pentile in that screen.. couldn't bear to have it.
The Galaxy Nexus: First: a nexus device. It wins already.. but to add more, the screen, the build quality, the cameras, are all flawless. Ice cream sandwich is literally perfect and stunning on this phone. One did die out of nowhere and the screen went fuzzy on one of them, quite scary honestly, but after it was back to normal after a battery pull.
so in the end folks, let them bash this phone. It's just because they want it. I'll be with you guys hopefully next week when i order my Galaxy nexus.
i got the nexus because the nexus is an open phone out of the box, no s-off hacks, no 2nd init hacks, just open, it literally took me 5 mins to unlock and root both my gnex and my friends gnex, i can bet it would have taken longer with a razr or rezound
haters gonna hate

Mine gets really hot when playing emulators but no overheat. Gnex ftw!
The only thing the Rezound has going for it is the screen and a removable memory card.
You know what thought, we'll be on Android OS 5 before they get ICS.

That's mostly because the phones in the stores have every app in memory (because people play around with them all day). Clear it all out and it does feel better, but it will never wow you. For the specs that the thing has it should be *flawlessly* smooth, and yet it's not at all. There's *always* a noticeable lag on the Rezound, from switching pages in the launcher to scrolling through websites. The Nexus is smooth *all* the time.

I'm sure they are both great phones. Why some people feel the need to justify their purchase so fervently is strange though.
Nexus rules! Har..
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
In three days I have seen more Galaxy Nexuses returned for malfunctioning than the Rezound and Razr combined in the month or so they have been available.
My thoughts:
Not big on the Rezound, its a great phone but lacks a wow factor for me. but if you like sense then its the best HTC you can buy!
I believe when the Razr gets ICS (possibly in Jan) it could be the better phone, just because of build quality, and the reception capabilities.
When you account for the home button on the Nexus the screen is nearly the same size as the razr, just slightly wider. The screen is nicer on the Nexus but only really noticeable on things like red text.
Don't kid yourself about updates, with Google buying Motorola Mobility phones like the Razr will receive updates quickly.
The Nexus had its second update the day it came out. That's not a good thing, and apparently there are still issues to resolve. There is a reason it took so long to release.
That being said all three are very nice phones and owners should be happy with any of them. People have different opinions, needs, and wants. Do you really think you are better for buying something different? Guess what its not a special club, any sap with a couple hundred bucks can join. Try to have more self respect and not feel so insecure with yourself.
Do you like your phone? Awesome, that's all that freaking matters! Who cares what anyone else thinks.
Nexus owners are probably bashing RAZR and Rezound's and other devices too. People will be people.

Now this was in a recent course which was 2 weeks of use. Had one briefly during launch and traded it because of the demand. Saw development picking up so I got one back and gave it a longer try/go.
The Galaxy Nexus is awesome don't get me wrong its just that it seems like they put more into the interface looking pretty than basic elements running smoothly. It has cool features which will definitely be a upgrade to people that haven't tried it but some of your favorite apps may not work and if your someone that likes to use your device day in and day out be prepared to bring a charger with you. The only 3 things that amazed me about the phone was the face unlock, the screen resolution and the softkey mods. Battery life was lacking and those three features weren't enough to make me want to keep this device. Tried everything from rom, radio, baseband combos and it just didn't make it better. Some other people may disagree. I don't buy phones to have them sit on a desk so showing me screenshots with 75% display(meaning standby/lack of use) won't convince me otherwise.
Now when it comes to the T989 I feel like it's a overall better device. Even though we are on GB we will have a ICS rom soon whether if it's OTA or Leaked. Better battery life with rom and kernel combos that actually show improvement, great storage for pack rats, and development from both sides of the fence. Not to mention we have a new addition to the Devs I feel like the Sgs2/T989 is a strong enough device to hold me or anyone over till the Sgs3, but I'm sure I will try out the Blaze as well.
2 Galaxy Nexus owned/traded and I don't feel like I'm missing out by coming back to the Sgs2. In my eyes they both have strengths and weaknesses but it's far from a slaughter.

I feel like the Skyrocket is a better device too, it's the reason why I haven't grabbed the GNexus.
And with the CPU/GPU thing, the S3 just about destroys the OMAP4460.
Adreno 220 is much faster then the SGX540, and even though the OMAP has the same tech as the Exynos, it just doesn't seem nearly as fast, and the Snapdragon feels much quicker.
Also, on the GNexus, could you still see pixels because of the PenTile display? On my friends GNexus, I have no problem noticing the pixels, but I can't see them on my Skyrocket.

Good decision, the gs2 battery life is no joke. And especially now that TDJ has his hands on a device, expect greater things to come. Eugene, not sure how great he is, but other people can vouch for him, so i can't wait! But RK and TDJ is an amazing combo, they finished strong at the mt4g dev section. Made it imho the best single core device.

If you think your battery life is good, ask us Skyrocket's and T-Mo SGS II users.
Thanks to the GSM/LTE combo in the Skyrocket, I use battery at the same rate as they do, so there's no battery drain.
I do 12-14 hours on a charge with heavy usage (I mean, constant texting, web browsing, gaming, listening to music).
I use my phone constantly. On the Nexus I was getting 4-5 hrs. I don't see how that is acceptable. In time I'm sure a kernel will give it more juice. The phone has only been on the market for 2 months.

firstable what do you mean by Graining/Blobbing?
Voodoo is not applicable to our device
ICS is guaranteed so the GB part is only partially applicable until we get 4.0
the Plastic Feel is subjective to each person feel, to me the T989 is one of the better quality Samsung has ever build to date
the Galaxy Nexus actually feels more plasticky, i like our back cover more than the one that came with the i9250

I included the unlocking fee because i buy my phones for full price and i have to have them unlocked which most of the time it cost me money since none of the unlocker apps work and tmobile wont give them to me. I travel alot and being as though the nexus comes factory unlocked i figured i would list it as a con on the sgs2 side and a pro on the GN for myself.
The Graining/Blobbing is from a thread i read which most people have been experiencing which runs more in the category of lines running vertical in some screens. I experienced some but its not a big issue. That was in comparison to the 720p screen of the GN which i found no screen issues viewed from any angles.
I know Voodoo isnt functional with our device but i saw several people mention it and i was one of the people that miss it. Just from back in the Vibrant days. I think it is or was more effective than Volume+.
ICS is coming we all know that, but trying out ICS and than coming back to GB to me is a downgrade. Not just based on the OS #, but because ICS has more cooked in, and it will be great once we have it officially on the Sgs2. It was listed as a con for me because we have to wait on it for some time. May not be a biggie to other people.
The feel of the GN felt more nice is the hand to me with or without a case. The sgs2 in the color black feels nice in the hand maybe more so because of the door material , but the white model feels more cheap. I have a white on the way as im selling my black because I like the full look of the white but i know i have to add a white body glove to it to get a better feel of it.

very interesting regarding the white vs black model of the T989 i didn't know the back cover was different on the white
i was under the impression it was just the color.
re: unlocking fee, well in that case i do agree if you compare it as the total Cost of the phone, but that being said, the i9250 is still more expensive even with that included into the total of a T989
i'm indifferent about the Graining/Blobbing as it happens on both devices, actually all new AMOLED devices seems to be suffering from the same thing from what i've read across devices (Nokia, G Note, G Nexus, T989, i727, the new HD version of skyrocket, etc)
it'a factory production thing... not much we can do
that being said, i don't see the problem when using it normally, it only shows up when you have brightness all the way to Zero, otherwise is not noticeable
any brightness setting of 20% of more will just make it go away

Ive read that as well, but i only noticed it so much on the devices i had.
The door on the black t989 is more so like a carbon feel sort of with more grip, and the white t989 is more glossy/slippery.
Also thanks for editing my OP. I was mobile at the moment of post.
i usually get the best phones available.. glad i have the s2.. the camera/sd card on the nexus is a deal breaker..
ive been using the same sd card for years and i wouldnt want it any other way.. its the easiest way to move ur music/pics/info quickly to a new phone.

I wonder why all these GN vs GS2 threads are here? No need to justify your purchases. We all like and want different things. I can appreciate a new POV, but in essence its all the same. I can find thousands of people who can say the GNs pros outway the cons. To all their own I say.
Sorry, if it feels like I am targeting you, it's just these threads just seem like people trying to convince themselves more than anyone else that their phone is better than the GN...which is very subjective.
There is enough hate in the world. Why can't we all get along here ...?
I seen the gn and hated it its so ugly the missing buttons r ugly too

Well this thread is more reasonable than the others because at least he listed a whole list of pros and cons. While the other ops are like "gs2 ftw" or something along those lines. He's not necessarily bashing either phones. he's listing some things that will help others decide if the cons outweigh the pros for either phone. Like if you're a battery user, immediately you would want to stick with the gs2.

I agree with your points.
I just traded my white gs2 for a galaxy nexus and I plugged it into my computer and couldn't even transfer files to the sd card -.-. After installing drivers I can do it through MTP but I feel like out of the box internal sd card support was one of the major advantages of having an android device.
I might be interested in trading back for a gs2 but.... the screen is just... AMAZING on the nexus. I can't notice any pixels like someone else stated earlier but the screen quality is great. I had a sensation and was complaining about the ppi when I moved to the gs2. It would be hard to readjust to the galaxy s 2 if I do decide to go back to it.
Another point is the camera quality on the galaxy s 2... it completely blows away the nexus. I don't think the nexus is horrendous but for a 700 dollar phone you would think they could make some improvements. I also think that a better camera app would help, the native camera app in ICS isn't that much of an improvement from AOSP gingerbread.
The last and final point that would make it difficult for me to move back to the gs2 would be the operating system. Ice cream sandwich took a bit to get used to but after playing with it, its definitely a more fluid experience than the galaxy s2. Even if the gs2 gets the update.... I find it hard to believe that the update would be as anywhere as stable as the nexus. There are major bugs in the CM7 build from a couple months ago.... I just wonder how long would it take to get a stable ICS one. Also I would assume that the ics update for the t989 would come with touchwiz. Touchwiz sort of kills the beauty of ICS for me, I tried it out on the i9100 and it wasn't very impressive--it didn't add many pros over the gingerbread build.
I think its a toss up... if camera/internal hardware/specs is important def go with the t989
If updates/support/screen quality is important then go with the nexus.
I'm back with the nexus but i want a att note now that it can get tmobile 4G.

[Q] Buying a Nitro now? Good or Bad?

Hi comrades! I was wondering if I should sell my HTC Vivid (Development has stopped for good) and pick up a used nitro off ebay, or should I invest in a Atrix HD, Note, or One X?. I see you guys have some talented devs at work and the Nitro's hardware is pretty kickbutt. So I'm pretty tempted too! Thanks in advance btw!
I've had my nitro for about two months now. Its a decent phone (I came from Galaxy Vibrant) but the responsiveness of the screen is definitely not responsive enough for me. I'm on the official ICS also.
If you're into flashing a bunch of different roms then this phone might not be for you. There are only a handful of devs making/porting roms here. Not that they aren't doing great, I just like to have a ROM buffet . I ordered a Gnex which should arrive tomorrow due to its dev support.
If you can get past lack of support (compared to the vibrant anyways, I'm not bashing the devs here at all) and slightly less responsive touch screen then this phone is decent.
Soo my only gripes about the phone:
Not as much development compared to phones like gnex or vibrant
Touch isn't as responsive compared to my old vibrant
Battery life ain't the best (I'm on extended so that helps a lot)
Pros:
IPS display is great.
Speaker is loud.
Camera is nice
Small community so you recognize most people here
Hardware is nice
I hope that helped!

Don't get any phone with a pentile display unless it is the Galaxy 3. My Optimus LTE screen is just as responsive as the Galaxy 2/ Infuse. They probably use the same tech.
At the going rate for unlocked Nitrous, it.is the best buy right now if you don't need quad core. There is plenty of promising dev support, and rooting is easy.

Nitro is a decent phone. Im still deciding whether or not to go back to the amaze as a backup or keep the nitro.
The touch response is pretty slow, but maybe its more sensative to being covered up with a screen protector.
Its a pretty smooth phone seems to task pretty well. The camera... well i hatevto say it but its awful.
A real let down considering lg 's firsy true flagship had such a killer camera on it.
Could be just the software i dunno.
Battery although most people say it sucks seems normal which .... sucks.
The screen is awesome, really nice i think on par with the one x. And yeah if your going to go with sammy get the gs3 all the other screens including the note are just garbage, that is unless you prefer over saturated unatural colors.
Im actually waiting for the note2.
Rumor its going to have a better screen than gs3.
This is a nice every day or backup phone.
Is it a beast? Hardly.
But i will say this the lg skin is pretty close to aosp.
Dont pay more than 250- 300.
I got mine for 225.

Compared to any non-HD screen phone, the battery life will suck especially if you have a lot of screen on time. Standby time in CM9 or CM10 is excellent though.
After owning, developing for, and having hardware issues with my Nitro before, I can't recommend this phone unless your getting it on the cheap. The hardware issue I had was the microphone stopped working and people couldn't hear me. (It wasn't a ROM issue).
With that said, I have heard bad things from Galaxy Nexus owners as well, such as it overheats. I haven't had my Nitro overheat before but it certainly gets hot if your playing a game on it for an hour. LG needs to work on their quality though, I think many of us believed that the Nitro being a flagship phone at the time would be of higher quality but I really don't believe the manufacturing quality is up to that of Samsung or HTC.
I admit I am nitpicking considering I use this phone every day and it works well for everything I need.
I got two for a penny each....pretty Damn happy with my purchase

As others have said, unless you can get this phone for $50 or less on contract, don't bother. The development community is tiny, there is a huge lack of quality, stable ROMs, battery life is mediocre if you like to use the screen a lot, and the touchscreen isn't that responsive.
I'm getting rid of this phone and upgrading when my contract permits. I was really on the fence about upgrading to the Galaxy Nexus, but decided to keep the Nitro for the time being since it does have a really nice screen.
Honestly. I would get something else. Screen is great. But that's about it. I would get the note because development is great. The one x is growing fast. But the Atrix HD is just getting started.
Depends on if you like an arsenal of roms to flash.
Just got the gnex..
It's amazing. Performance is great, ROM support is great and I love the customizable ness of it. I could change the onscreen buttons and all that.
The only things I miss from nitro HD is the screen and SD card but I can live without those. Nitro HD screen beats the gnex screen hands down but its not enough for me to stay with it.

cool, glad that's settled, now we need to get a mod to delete this thread because I've been planning to sell my nitro for$250+ when the note 2 comes out shortly.

Good luck with that, I've had my Nitro posted up for less than that and nobody was interested even after a month.

same here ive had it on CL(Craiglist) For a week at $225-235 no interest what so ever. But i Dont wanna go under $200
i was joking, i have no intentions of getting rid of my nitro any time soon, it does everything i need a phone to do just fine.
Well im glad your faith in the device is strong!!!!!!!
Didn't wanna get rid of it till i had my One X. But i dumped that phone today for a quick $200

waiting on the next badass smartphone is retarded. not only will you be waiting longer than you planned, the next new baddass smartphone will be on the horizon, might as well wait for it.

Any company achieves (or has ever achieved) a high position will have that kind of badasses. The most annoying is Apple fans, next is Samsung fan. Sony and Nokia fans are different than not a lot as two companies above but somehow more crazy and ignorant.
I think currently LG's fans are the best in behaving:good:
I've had my E980 for 2-3 weeks now
It performs the way I would expect for having the same internals as the SGS4, with a larger screen. It freakin SCREAMS. I looked at the Note2, but its got obsolete hardware compared to SGS4 or E980. I would definitely say the E980 effectively IS the Note3 without the Samsung extras. If Samsung had done a simultaneous release of the Note3 (which they *should* have), I probably would have gone for that, but the E980 is working out just fine and I'm happy with it. I think LG scored a nice coup here. Why compete with the the smaller SGS4 head to head and lose, when you can release a Phablet with the same specs, and no competition for 6 months until the Note3 releases? They really need to advertise it though while they have an effective but temporary "monopoly" on the high end Phablet.
Observations:
Battery life has been awesome. I use it periodically during the day like normal, and its sitting between 70-80%. The 2.1A charger in the car has it fully charged in the 30+ minute drive home in the evening. This is a MASSIVE improvement over my SGSII where I would be at 30% at the end of a similar day and would take a couple of hours to charge since it didn't charge above 1A.
Screen is awesome! I got this over the SGS4 which I'd been planning on, since my eyeballs have had a recent and relatively sudden "degradation of capabilities". The combination of LARGE screen and sharp pixels is working out quite nicely for me to be able to see the text without having to make other compromises. (btw this getting older crap sucks) Thank goodness for variety, because if I was stuck on a tiny iPhone screen I'd be sunk by now.
It runs good on T-Mobile (at least where the frequencies have been refarmed like DFW, not sure about elsewhere). 4.78Mbs up, 1.7Mbs down for HSPA+ in Dallas. Unable to test LTE yet until more towers get lit up.
Application installs are almost all instant. Big upgrade from my SGSII. Blink and you miss the installation from Play.
Camera is proving to be pretty awesome and sharp. Definite upgrade from my SGSII. It focuses a lot faster, and I can do more rapid shots, which comes in handy when children won't sit still... Colours seem correct, or close enough, I'm not noticing anything wrong.
Still fits in my back pocket - YMMV on this one, but Levi's 36x34 can take it.
First phone EVER that actually fits comfortably in my hand. One handed operation is not compromised either for ME. However, this is another YMMV - folks with smaller hands WILL have a problem on this. My SGSII was ok, provided it had a case on it, and the same with the SGS3 and 4's that I've borrowed. But this is definitely better. If you're of the smaller handed set, this may not be the phone for you, but for those who have medium to large hands - take a look at this phone. it may be exactly what you've been looking for comfort wise. Viva la difference.
i'd agree with all the good things posted. it's a fantastic device. re: the camera sensor, i've noticed it has a hard time reading bar codes for apps, anybody else experience this?

I haven't noticed any issue on the barcodes, and I know I've scanned a couple in the last couple of weeks. I just gave it a couple of smaller ones off a Lenovo power supply that gave it a fit, but it still got them after a few seconds. Switched over to a magazine and it picked it right up (in low light even). For the app barcodes, those have been nearly instant as well. For all of the above, I'm using ZXing's Barcode Scanner.

that's prolly a better way to describe it. it has recognized all the bar codes i've thrown at it, but it seems to struggle to settle down and focus. twitchy, like the image stabilization is not engaged.

OK, yeah, I've seen what you are talking about. Almost seemed like it focused on the WRONG area a couple of times. With that said, I've not noticed much difference over my previous SGSII. Although subjectively, its seems faster than my SGSII for getting a lock.
just received my OGP this week...in just love it!!!
from a former note user...lollll though my note had been a nice phone
Still willing to buy...bye to my HTC desire X
I've been wanting to wait for the Note 3, but I hardly use the stylus. I love the phablet form of the phone.
I really would love to get this phone. I really enjoyed playing with it at the store, but the locked boot loader is no bueno for me.
Maybe once things get rolling with this device, I'll pick it up.

thats true.. but i think that if the SN3 comes out that it will be a failure. for one, a 6 inch screen is a big turn off. 2nd, benchmarks mean nothing even if it'll have the best specs when it debuts.
i think the OGP will lbeat the SN3 even when it comes out, despite the higher specs. theres gonna come a time when ram and processor speed will reach a point where it doesnt matter anymore.. like the laptop where chip manufacturers stopped making faster chips cuz laptops are fast enough.. theres no need to make cellphones faster now.
i'm gonna buy the OGP soon.. i wish there was a white version available in the USA though.

How can you tell unless you know exactly what the note 3 will be about? Also the note 3 will have a better development support that's pretty much guaranteed. And the Spen is s major plus that the note series have over the other phablet.

This is the one smartphone that I want and good old Verizon does not have it. Unfortunately Verizon has the best coverage in my area. I do not want the Galaxy Note 2 , so that is not an option with me. I will just hold off until maybe Verizon will get an LG phone with the same style and the same specs as this one. I don't like the pointed square corners of the LG phones on Verizon. The Optimus G Pro have the rounded corners. Looks great. I'm really sick that I cannot get this phone. I guess I will have a long wait on Verizon. Wish I could switch carriers.
such a beautiful screen, best phone ever had
thanks LG
