After all the hype that surrounded this phone on the first week of launch, I now pose a question. After reading some of the comical titles on this forum, like "the perfect phone" Samsung out did themselves" "the super phone" Do one still consider this phone a super phone? Or is it over hyped by us here on this forum?

Dont get me wrong there are some minor issues that an update can fix but all and all, this is the best phone i ever had,my last phone was an evo and b4 that a hero and b4 that an iphone.Best phone period,i made the mistake of getting an iphone 4s and returned on the first day very boring os nothing to an iphone after u get used to android.
Definitely the best smartphone out to date. Fastest, lag free, great display. But of course new and better things are always on the horizon...

Very happy with the ET4G. Love the thin design and big screen.
Definitely the best phone I've had. Last 3 phones I've owned are the Evo, NS4G, and the Evo3D and this is a great phone.
This is hands down THE Super Phone, that is until the Next Big Thing is released and that will become The Super Phone.
Yep its a super phone
Not so sure the Prime will be enough of a upgrade to switch but will find out tonight. I really like TW4 for some reason
I've had the moment, evo, epic, nexus s, and the evo3d and I can personally say this smokes em all. Instant everything, you can hear your phone actually ring and there is that whole non-existant lag thing. If this would have been my first android some one would have had to explain to me what lag actually meant. Battery life is phenomenal, I get about 14 hours with heavy use and haven't gotten home with under 50%. In my opinion this baby will be worth having untilled the quad cores start dropping.

DEF "THE Superfone"...
I was between the Evo 3D and GSII. Went with the 3D because I liked HTC. My mistake. Took 3d back after 3 days paid 35 dollar restocking fee and got GSII. The 3d is supposedly a superfone and this beast blows the 3d away. Will it be a superfone in 6-12 months? No.
Yes this is a beast, best phone I've owned to date.
This is my third dual core phone (had LG Thrill and still have an Atrix) and it absolutely eats the others alive. The Thrill only has 1/2 the ram and I'm not impressed with the omap or tegra chips. My Atrix running CM7 beta and overclocked to 1.3ghz can't touch my stock Epic Touch for smoothness and fluidity.

Huge display with SAMOLED, best screen I've seen. Awesome battery life (can go 15 hours with normal/heavy use). I personally like TW, though I know many people do not.
Best phone as of to date..Blows away 3d. Just wish the signal was as good as my Photon was. My wife has my photon but this phone is way better. Class all in its own.

Yep, it is a super phone. We tend to hold onto ours for a couple years before changing so this is my first 'real' android phone. I did run Android on my TP2, the word lag doesn't even start to describe it.
This phone is everything it is hyped to be. Beautiful, fast, light.

OK had the 3d since launch ..and I enjoy it for the most part except for a few things ..so if you had a 3d aand bought the epic touch ..how do you feel about your purchase
.do you miss sense..is it faster etc ..let me know what you think..I'm on the fence and although this is frivolous its driving me crazy ..
All i can tell you (imo), this things DESTROYS the Evo3D in every aspect.
Sent from a Galaxy far far away...
It's faster, the screen is way better, the speaker is louder, the phone foes better, ways less, and all around looks better.
I have evo 3d, but not for much longer. This phone number blows a custom romed evo 3d out of the water stock. Imagine.... A phone that doesn't require tweaking to feel like a "superphone "....
My advice is make the jump. If your unsure, then the not happy with the 3d. There is no phone I would rather have, absolutely happy with this phone.
Do yourself a favor, don't compare the screens unless you want to see how pitiful the color reproduction on the 3d is compared the the epic touch.

EVO 3D user here until today. No regrets. I actually like the lower resolution better. Easier to swype. Honestly there isn't a single thing about the 3D I miss and I wasn't exactly a samsung fan either. Do it.

I mean the specs are almost identical ..so I do t understand how it destroys the e3d ..but is has peaked my interest and really need help deciding with honest opinions
You won't regret it at all. The phone is very fast, super light weight, beautiful screen... The only thing I don't really like is the lock screen but that is not a big factor.. If u can get this phone go for it and you won't even look back. I ran quadrant 2 times first time 3288 and the second time I got a 3684 so what that being said this phone is the best phone on the market
That's what I thought but there is a reason this is being called the best smartphone in the world. It just runs.

Read write is significantly faster, processer is faster, screen is not even in the same class, there is zero lag on anything, the gpu is waaaaaaay better than the 3d, battery is insane (i dont know how they did it but i cant believe how long it lasts), signal is better for me. Thats the biggest things for me. I play with every phone out ther by working at best buy and im telling you honestly i havent found a phone that would beat this including the bionic (mainly cuz motorolas launcher sux ass)

I honestly think its the processor that makes up the performance difference between the 2 phones.
If I were you I'd get it before word gets out... This phone was not highly commercially advertised. But the word of mouth on this phone is going to be killer.. This is the phone to get... Oh, look at that... I had my phone running with medium to heavy use for 13 hours now and the power saver mode just kicked on... Just another perk to an already perfect phone.. LOL

Tried Them All And Found One Worth Keeping...
This is coming from someone who has been with Sprint Android from the beginning. I started with the Hero, then the Evo 4G. In the last 3 months I have tried all the newer sprint phones for at least 2 weeks or longer:
Evo 3D on launch day = Returned within 30 days because it was not worth keeping for the next 2 years until my next upgrade.
Nexus S = Pure Android but a step back from an Evo 4G (really liked the idea of NFC but it was unusable in my area)
Photon = Motorola is junk....I cannot stand their bundled apps and the build felt chunky in my hand. Far too similar in speed to my Evo 4G to justify keeping it.
Galaxy S II = Amazing speed, crystal clear screen, no lag, super thin, light as a feather, and so far fantastic battery life. I can't wait until this gets a huge developer following like the Evo 4G did. I can say I will gladly keep this phone for the next 2 years. (sure when the phones with quad core 2.5GHz processors drop next year I will probably want one but who wouldn't)
I am blown away that there was little to no marketing for this phone. They pumped the Evo 4G and Evo 3D, but as far as I see it, the Galaxy S II is Sprints new flagship phone until the iPhone gets here. I kinda wonder if it will ever get the attention because the iPhone is rumored to land at Sprint by the middle of next month.
Great products dont need hype. Positive user feedback will create a ground swell and everyone will want one. This phone is great.

Bought mine earlier today to replace the evo 3d I'm now putting on craigslist lol. This phone is literally epic. I hated the thought of no qhd but after using this phone for 5 hours straight I could care less. The screen is super nice and I've had no lag at all. Launcher pro was smooth as hell on it also, I felt it was smoother than on my 3d. And its so big yet so thin!

E4gt by a long shot. Smoother ,longer battery life!
The epic 4g touch by a long shot. Samsung focused on software amd hardware instead of a gimmick like the 3d did and the nexus 4g is a great phone but it's out of date hardware wise.
Lots of other reasons, but those are the biggest ones.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Evo 3D isnt even used as a benchmark when comparing newly released phones, almost as if it is "old" hardware", such as the Nexus 4G Epic Touch IS the best device of 2011, IMHO it will beat out the Galaxy Nexus as well, once we have official ICS anyway. But by then HTC's Quad Core device will drop, making the Epic Tough "old hardware" If you want today's top of the line device, then its Epic Touch FTW!
I disagree on the evo3d not being a benchmark. A nexus feels slow compared to either of the other 2 other phones. When it comes to comparing a et4g and evo3d, u almost have to spend a week just you figure out what screen u prefer (i know people say a evo3d looks washed out when side by side). Truth of the matter is that both screens are terrific and depends on ur style. As for power, its like racing 2 new street bikes, both are plenty fast and to me, speed isnt a issue. The new sg2s actually has the same processor (almost) as the 3d. Now it comes down to the joy of using, and i pick sense everytime. Htc has of nice widgets that play well with sync'n ur accounts. Facebook is fully intergrated with everything. At the end, both phones dont leave much to be desired. U will be completely happy with a evo3d or et4g. Ill also add that the et4g takes.better pics, but also not 3d (so ur choice). To me 3d is great but i would trade cameras with the et4g if i could. I think the evo3d screen is way more responsive and feels alot better and smoother to use. This might not be a issue if u have never owned a sensitive device.
***i left out bugs and battery life because of it being a misleading issue. Xda is full of whinners who complain about every detail on both devices. Fanboys lie about battery life on both devices. Both make it thru the day and charge it at night.
No question the Epic Touch. I have had all three these phones. The EVO-3D was a major let down for the successor to the classic EVO 4G. I returned it after two weeks.
Bought the Nexus-S 4G and it was a cool little phone. Nice screen. Lightweight. Fast for single core.
Last week picked up the ET4 and man this thing feels and looks like a next gen device compared to those other two. Like those other phones feel years old. The ET4 has an amazing screen. Very thin. Lightweight...ridiculous long battery life. And the good ROM's are finally coming out.
For Sprint this is hands down their best device.

there are issues with EVERY phone. The prime will have its fair share of issues, hell, they just rolled out an ETA for nexus users to fix a volume but.
I wouldnt take any other phone except for the galaxy note. and even thats too big. The et4g will be in my hands for at least the next 6 months. its THAT good. Had the nexus, evo3d, tried the photon, there is no comparison whatsoever.
Also, no point in waiting on new phones, because guess what, after you wait, then finally make a purchase, something better is going to come out 2 months later.
This is a great phone and you will love it. It is super thin but doesnt fell cheap. It is much lighter than the Evo (I have held the 3D so I cant compare). Very fast and the screen is beauty. You can even see it clearly in daylight at a medium black light setting.
The only issue I am having with it is when I play a game on it it just closing the app because of a sound issue.
Here is the posting on google about the problem:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=17623
And here is the possible solution to the issue:
http://www.grayfinstudios.com/post?id=ag1ncmF5Zmlud2ViYXBwcgwLEgRQb3N0GIHuBQw
But even with that problem the phone is still wonderful. I was looking at the Sprint forum a few nights ago and Samsung and Sprint are suppose to be working on a fix. But you know how that goes.
ive tried them all. epic 4g touch is bar far the fastest and best battery
Epic Touch 4G by a very long shot. The device is super fast and the stock rom is very well rounded. I am a flash-junky, and while my device is rooted, I am still running the stock rom. Even the default launcher is great, although I still prefer ADW Launcher. The device runs full flash and never laggy no matter what sites I go on. Even adult sites (just to test of course ). I can play every video type I've tried with the stock video player. Even AVI and MKV. Even things that my netbook has trouble running, the E4gT runs without a problem.

I have the E4GT, gave my Evo 3D to my wife. Nexus is coming out with new model called Prime.
E4GT vs Evo 3D = E4GT for sure.
Keep in mind E4GT has bugs for some people (including myself) loss of service and games crashing, a fix is "supposed to be coming soon". Even with this bug, I choose E4GT.
E4GT vs Nexus Prime:
Every aspect Nexus wins for me with BIG except the camera.
Note that in camera world 8mp vs 5mp doesn't matter, it's the lense. From the international version of Nexus Prime, the camera sux. This is a deal breaker for me because I take an average of 100-200 pics every month (like they say, the best camera is the one you have with you when you need it). UNLESS the Nexus Prime coming to Sprint I would guess around jan or February improve the quality of camera, I decided based on that.
Today's winner is E4GT. Tomorrow's winner is pending for me. If only I knew the improved Nexus Prime would be coming to Sprint, only then 100% Prime. Or if camera Quality is not important to you, 100% wait and get Prime...
IMHO
What's you honest opinion? Is it getting CM9? Should I get the Galaxy S2?

had mine for about 2 weeks and it is a love hate. love the screen, hate the battery. love the possibility (development/ics), hate the current reality.
my wife got skyrocket and comparing the two, nitro screen wins hands down! clear crisp and realistic colors. sgs2sr is much smoother software wise and battery is what you qould expect, full day with lite use. nitro get 8 hours lite use.
after a few days i was ready to switch to skyrocket... but i am going to hang with it. the negatives are not great enough to give up this screen. plus skyrocket does not feel as good in the hand.
that probably doesnt help much... if you can go look at both.

No one knows yet as it is still waiting for the CWM to be built, if you feel you can wait for the custom ROMs, CWM etc then get one if you wish, or if you need something right away then the SGSII is the other road to travel. There are several posts about your question, for example:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1390399
I needed a new phone after my Atrix 4G bluetooth/wifi chip broke down. The real choices were really iPhone 4S, Skyrocket, HTC Vivid and LG Nitro. One look at iPhone screen and it was out. It almost seems like a kid toy. I had Skyrocket for a week and I returned for few reasons. I read a lot and the screen was washed out in comparison to the original S2 that my wife has. I have a little kid and I take a lot of pics. Skyrocket camera always produced pics that were a little out of focus. The third strike was that Skyrocket audio produced a lot of hissing through the headphones. Fourth, I was not so convinced that xda scene would embrace Skyrocket like they did with the European ver of S2. This phone was released in the US 6 months too late. Vivid was out just simply it felt like holding a soap box. Now Nitro HD. Screen for reading is simply amazing. After rooting, hard reset, GO Launcher I can get to the performance and look I need. I like how the phone is feels in my hand. The battery is a problem and I would not chose this phone if I was still travelling too much but with a combination of a spare battery and a car charger I focus more on enjoying the phone without busting a sweat. The baterry life still seems better than EVO 4G. If you need to stick with this phone for the next two years I would wait for something like 4.5 inch 720p quad core Tegra 3, 2 gb RAM, LTE, 2.2f dual flash 12mp marvel that will come out closer to the mid year. If you need a phone for 6-9 months this phone will hold you over just fine. Just dont expect a lot of mods. If this phone will get a support it will be closer to the level of Atrix.

Lastly Skyrocket doesn't have Gorilla Glass. Nitro HD does.

Cool. I've read horrible reviews about the battery. How has it been for you? The different between the 2 screens doesn't bother me.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using xda premium
I have been getting about 12 hours with moderate use now. The battery has improved over the course of first 2 weeks of owner ship with repeated charges. I am talking about LTE, GPS, BT on all the time. When I say moderate probably 30 min calls, 20 sms, 1 hour of screen time browsing and stuff.
This is honestly the best phone I have used. Screen is a beauty. Everything just works. I used GPS on a recent west coast trip which involved at least 5 hours of GPS use. It was dead on. I can lock in the middle of a grocery store. Unfortunately the battery life isn't great. I rate it as mediocre. When I expect to be out for a long time, I switch to my Inspire 4G.
Also there is a stigma associated with LG brand.
The dev support is to be determined. Good thing is that this is a flagship model and there are different international versions available to broaden the hopes of more international dev support.
If you were to pick between the current AT&T LTE lineup, I would definitely recommend Nitro HD. I think if you wait another month or so, the Samsung Galaxy Note or the Sony's rumored 720p phone may get released. Again just speculations.
I agree this is probably the fastest GPS lock that I have ever seen.
Sent from my LG-P930 using xda premium
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this device to anyone looking for a flagship smartphone. Maybe not ideal for the road warrior running around searching for an LTE signal with the screen on playing an HD game but that is more about the battery than the phone.
And unfortunately, any leading-edge phone like this is going to have battery issues simply because battery tech has not kept up with the blistering pace these devices are moving forward. Now if these devices ran on petrol, WOW!
it's going to be a few years before batteries catch up to these devices. So it will be much much worse with the new quad-core smartphones that are poised on the horizon.
With a very heavy use, screen on 100%, browsing, LTE about 4.5 hours.

Yes to clairify... I would highly recommend this device, especially over skyrocket. Put the two screens side by side and you will be 100% sold! After watching 720p movies/anime I am so in love with this screen. LTE is incredible too. Yesterday I was getting 14Mbps up AND down! I have hit 20s and 30s consistently.
A little laggy, yes. Battery hog, hell yes. My hope is both of those are addressed by ICS and/or the XDA Dev community !
And yes, the battery life does sucks! Worst I have ever seen since I ran Android from my SD card on my HD2. Charger at desk and charger in car is required - or one of those portable chargers... something cuz you will not make it thru the day.
Actually as oppose to original gs2, skyrocket is unable to play mkv smoothly. There is a lot of threads about that in the divx forum.
Nitro HD on the other hand handles them very well through the stock player.

I was in your shoes as well.. I wanted to return my sgs2 before the 14days. But after a long thought I decided to keep it..am loving it. Its great.. I read up on the sgs3 but there has been debates going on over multi cores vs battery life/efficiency. Am starting to think the so called quad core is probably a mini core that equals 2(dual).. Also if you get the white on. Try and get a case. Because if your phone is stained and it sticks you might not like it.. That's why I still like any daily use item in black..

Agreed..it's all supply and demands.. The people wants it. Manufacturer supply. Imagine the first week this phone came out. It sold over 3million just the first week..the ads bombardment of dual core and it capability just enticed people and so they now decided to make quad core..anyway like you said its all gimmick. Dual core is good enough.

You can get a sIII in a few months but you'll spend like $700~. Chances are a variant will be out for t-mobile but that will probally be like 9 months from now. If you can wait then wait but by that time ther will be better phones on the horizon. This phone hasn't been out long and already there are sIII rumors swirling
Honestly, you should be okay with the G2X for a while yet... while the SGS2 is a great phone, it's not a massive improvement over what you currently have. Just be patient in this case, I'd say.

Somewhat right. Just that the sg2 is already clocked at 1.5 which you can do to g2x. And plus, all phones run the same apps from the market. If you buy a new phone, youre gonna put the same ol apps on it and just a piece of mind knowing you have a faster phone. I did have g2x, it did have problems for me with 3 returns, but if youre a lucky one that doesnt. Good.

if your g2x isnt acting up i dont think so...g2x is WAAAAAYYYYYYY faster. My friend has a g2x and he wants an S2 just because it looks cool but his phone is way faster then mine.
and if you think 9 months EOL is instant then you might wanna go look back at the G2, HD7, Exhibits and the Torch those were instant.

I did have g2x, it did have problems for me with 3 returns, but if youre a lucky one that doesnt. Good.

Basically. My brother has a G2X, and he likes it quite a bit, and hasn't given him any issues - then again, he upgraded from a G1, so he might be a bit less picky than most of us.
Keep ur G2X. The only reason I chose SG2 is cuz it has NFC. The G2X is a great phone and probably has all the features you need.

like what other said, yes, gs2 is a better phone, but is there a rush to upgrade? not really, its just a hype, and you see those commercials that makes you get one, since they're on all carriers or something lol.
You have to ask yourself, what are you going to do on your gs2 that your g2x can't do?
I know g2x are around 150-200 around my parts on CL and gs2 are 400-450 easily. Think about the difference and realize what you invest your money into. so a $200-300 difference.. thats a mini vacation, that's a skydiving trip, that's 2 years at 24 hour fitness, a round trip flight, that's about 1 lucky hand in vegas (HAR HAR). You can buy a new 32" tv with that, or almost an i3 laptop.
So if you have a quality g2x keep it. You're not gonna go flashing crazy on the gs2 if you're one of those people.
But if you're ballin and have means to spend, totally get the gs2.
thanks for everyone's opinions i really dont know what to do now that i read about the lg x3..i really was interested in the sII cause of the screen size because almost everything else is the same also because g2x is not getting ics.i have one more day to think about it cus my brother is getting it as a bday gift so ill see.
Just keep it, all ICS is just UI, it still functions the same as every other OS. Ginger to Ice Cream is like Eclair to Gingerbread.. Its all the same functionality..

Don't worry about not getting ICS, because I imagine the G2X will be supported via CM9
If your always gonna be worried about the next best thing you might as well not even buy anything. Everytime a phone comes out everyone says "Should i wait for the next one?". There is ALWAYS going to be a next one!
our s2 is better than g2x in many many ways
1. faster processor
2. faster gpu
3. more storage
4. amoled+ screen, movies look amazing
5. ice cream sandwich to come(and its a lot better than ginger..trust me)
but you should keep the g2x
with many new phones on the way there is absolutely no point getting the s2 right now..
I've read through every thread I could find on the matter.
I've owned smartphones since 2002 and upgraded every chance I could. I've gone through the ppc6700, ppc6800, tp, tp2, evo, and currently using the evo3d. The 3d portion is useless to me since I do not have 3d perception.
I like to play games on my phone and multi-task heavily, often using 3-4 programs at the same time. The evo3d rarely has a problem, no matter how many apps I throw at it.
This thursday, sprint is offering the i9305 for $50 because of black friday. Since the buyback on the evo3d is $50, I'm curious if anyone has any experience using both phones?
Thanks for any advice, links to reviews or overall thoughts on the matter
I had the EVO 3d. It was a nice phone did everything. I still use it in my car for torque pro
However the s3 is quite alot better atleast for me. The extra RAM, bigger screen, it is much faster when switching apps and opening them. I say go for it.
Have you played with a s3 yet?
I played with one today. it wasn't as fluid as I had hoped, but the camera rocked. Surprised there were no games on it.

There's not really any comparison the sgs3 is far superior to the evo3d. I think you'll find when you set the phone up yourself its very fluid and has little to no lag. I didn't keep my evo3d past the 14days, even the sgs2/et4g was a much better device than the evo3d. The 3d function had a good portion of the ram set aside just for it so even when u weren't using it that ram wasn't accessible by the system. The main reason I got rid of my 3d so fast was cuz of the 3d itself, that parallax barrier screen gave me a migraine due to my astigmatism.

Sam's Club will have the GS3 for .99 cents. I highly suggest jumping on it (the price, not the phone). Root it right away. Many wonderful roms and developers. I also highly suggest checking out the "Morphing" thread. Make it your phone

I was on a Sero plan, changed to a corporate plan, so no sams club for me.
Thanks for the feedback, looks like I'll be a go if everything works out.

Sell your phone on Craig's list. I got 140 for mine. The s3 is far superior to the 3d. Camera is better, multitasking is better, screen is better/bigger. I loved my 3d, but I wouldn't go back even if you paid me.

Wow. Just wow. I can't believe I didn't think of that. couple of months ago I bought an evo for my daughter and paid 100, it was a good deal too. Cha-ching!
Thanks!

There is not a single thing on the evo 3d that's better than this phone. Not Even the dedicated camera button.
There is a reason why there hasn't been another 3d screen phone..... nuf said

I never even used the 3-D part of the phone because I can't perceive 3-D. I upgraded to this because it has a dual core processor and I did like it a lot better than my old eco.

Yeah Qualcomm screwed the pooch with the s2 and even low end S3 chips

I went from the Evo 4G to the Evo 3D (one year each) and then the S3. obviously with a newer phone you'll get newer technology. but let's be clear, there are things that are better on each phone.
the Evo 3D has a better weight to it, so it feels better. it's also made of stronger material, so it doesn't feel as plasticky as the GS3 does. the Evo 3D has mass storage mode, which is HUGE for most people, yet here we've learnt to ignore that inconvenience somehow.
obviously the bigger screen, higher resolution, more powerful processor, and greater internal storage of the GS3 make it a better phone, hands down. oh, and if you like accessories, much to my wife's excitement there are about 1 trillion more accessories for the GS3 than were ever available for the Evo 3D.
I still handle the Evo 3D quite often as I gave it to my mom when I upgraded to the GS3. I have her on all the latest recovery, kernel, roms, etc
I do agree the 3D effect was just a gimmick. I had a lot of fun with it for about 2 months, then never used it again except every once in a while with my TV.
I sold mine for $200 (my wife and I both had Evo 3Ds and both upgraded to GS3s) on craigslist about 3 months ago. much better deal there than any Sprint buyback

Completely agree; and personally hate dedicated camera button. I looked at the title of the thread and said, "You have got to be kidding me."
problem is with using it in store is that they have it running for weeks at a time constantly plugged in and people open 40+ apps and never close it. but yes i owned a 3d and i now have the s3 and it superior in every way.

I have owned a lot of Samsung/HTC devices. Also I am far from bias because I am an HTC guy. But there is nothing in the EVO3d that can even come close to the SGS3. The sg3 pentile screen is even nicer and sharper.
Fyi, when they bought back my evo 3d they offered me 110$ because I had the box, charger ect.
