T-Mobile update notification not going away, but i'm rooted + custom ROM

I just rooted and flashed beast mod on my gs2. An hour after using it, T-mobile popped up in my notification tray with a new update. I'm assuming this is 2.3.6 and eventually the dev's will develop or update their roms.
I just want to make sure that I shouldn't update my phone this way, or I will be bricked?

i dont think it will brick you, but it will unroot you.

I have a rooted sII and i just received a software update for my phone. do you know if i install the update will that affect anything?

I lost my root installing the update. looking to re root now.. It alos reinstalled all the Tmo bloat ware again.

I rooted my phone a month ago. I have had no problems except that when I try to download T-Mobile's software update, I get stuck in Clockwork recovery. I don't know what to do next.

I was on same boat till yesterday . There is stock ROM 2.3.6 on android development section. Download it and install from cwm.
Make sure you dont postpond the update otherwise it will be pain in back.

I rebooted my phone and left the notifaction alone dont want or need to update to 2.3.6 I hope jugs update soon so I can get rid of this problem

I'm on Bombraider by TricH and I have the notification for the update. What will happen if I run it?

Juggernaut v3.7 and Tmobile software update????
I am using Juggernaut v3.7 ROM, and my phone recently constantly show Message about upgrade the software from Tmobile. What should I do next? Flash stock rom 2.3.6 to get rid of Tmobile upgrade? and then can I flash Juggernaut v3.7 back to my phone?
Is there any way to disable (inside the code or build.prop file) the upgarde notification?

Can I do the T-Mobile update while rooted on a custom rom?

This is going to be a hot item for most of us with rooted phones. Simply no way of knowing what will happen should we let the update go through. And just to be safe, most of us would prefer to cancel the update.
I followed someone else's advice and used Titanium Backup Pro to:
- wipe data for "Device Manager"
- "freeze" the same application
The nag is gone. I reckon this method should work for everyone with rooted phones.
Otherwise, we'd need to wait to respective ROM teams to release their own patches etc.
TB team should see a nice uptick in app purchases in next few days. The app is well worth it, so if you been on a fence, get it now, $6 well spent.

I just got the ota update. It says it's going to automatically update my phone in 24 hrs. Is this going to mess my phone up? I am currently rooted with. Bombradier rom. Do I need to do anything? Thanks

i am rooted with stock rom and receive the update, np at all. In your case, you have a different rom and not stock. odin probably is the best bet.

bought sgs2 last weekend and rooted using superoneclick and at the end of the day, receive ota update and update my sgs2 and i forgot that i am rooted. i left my phone to finish updating and when i came back, its up and have 2.3.6 uVKL1, did not receive any problem. battery great, wifi calling is there. im just surprised it let me update even though my phone is rooted. btw stock rom, stock kernel just rooted.

I think I'll just wait until somebody comes out with an official sticky solution because I didn't flash any ROM to mine, I just rooted it.... I don't know what to do either... Until someone posts a solution there will be several posts pertaining to this subject

Thanks for posting this. I tried this method and it works great.

4.04 Verizon OTA 5/22

Looks like the OTA is available to download again, it's on the Google servers. Might be pushing out soon if someone finally hits the switch.

The zip file is the same file that was sent out before for IMM76K that mostly corporate store devices received. I believe the URL may even be the same. Either way, Android Central posted the URL for the update and it is in the OP as well, since people obviously didn't read the OP before posting...

Can't this be flashed thru stock recovery or have,to be unlocked? May just wait for the push if it has to be unlocked

Of course they are. This is the exact same update file that was pushed to some corporate devices and a handful of end customers on May 1 before being deleted from the Google server a few hours later.

I am new to Android, so be nice please. I'm running stock 4.02 on my Verizon galaxy nexus. I downloaded the latest zip file for 4.04 from googles servers. How do I install this? Can I do it directly from the phone, or do I need to use a computer? Anything else I need to know?

If anyone gets the OTA notification today, let me know. Specifically if you get an OTA notification for IMM30B. It's still up in the air as to whether or not it'll get an official OTA update to IMM76K.

Awesome instructions. The only hiccup I came across was renaming the .zip file to update.zip actually renamed it to update.zip.zip, so I just renamed it to update and it worked perfect. Thanks again.

No. The OTA will apply just fine assuming you haven't changed anything on the system partition. Also, once the OTA completes, you'll lose root, but you probably already know that.

Doesn't seem like anyone has got the OTA notification yet, but yes, it's the exact same file that came out May 1. MD5 and SHA1 hashes are the same.

As far as I can tell, this is the same as the earlier release (MD5 is the same) and therefore the radios are the same as the earlier 4.0.4 release.
The one way audio commonly called microphone cut out has not been fixed with this release. I still have this issue with 4.0.4.
Since this impacts the usefulness of the GN to perform as a phone, I am now going to examine other options such as the HTC rezound.

you should be able to trade your phone for a rezound about .00002 seconds after posting a trade in the marketplace.

that sucks as i think the new radios are bad for me at least.

Sprint Update, 7/6/12

Sprint seems to have pushed an update to the phone today. Anyone know what that update contains and why my CWM/Rooted but otherwise stock phone could not verify the authenticity of the package when it tried to install?

I haven't received one yet, also I didn't see any mention of one on the sprint community site. Are you certain this isn't just the one from last week?

It could be the old one or the one the Samsung release to the European unlocked version, apparently they added the brightness in the notification bar (like before) and some bug fixes

Yeah last week's was a security update, weird thing is the no other gs3 in the us got it

Not true. Both my 16 & 32 kept bugging me to update last week. Sprint s3's

I think it very much had to do with Google Wallet, I'm guessing that Sprint is late with the SPrint Wallet, and every other US vendor has opted out of gWallet for Isis instead.

The reason why CWM has an issue parsing the file is because the OTA requires the stock recovery.
Your options:
1) flash stock recovery > apply OTA > flash cwm > re-root
2) wait for a dev to create an update zip > flash the zip in cwm recovery

latest swype download?

I updated the ota update. The swype download i used before appears to not be recognized by my phone anymore. Anyone with the latest download hook me up with a link plz? I'm not rooted completely stock. I didn't want to update but,did anyways.

Just go to the Swype website and register. They'll email you a link to download the latest beta for Swype. I just installed it a few minutes ago actually. I'm liking it so far. The buttons are a little bigger and easier to use.

Sgs3 updated to a newer baseband

As of right now T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S3 known as SGH-T999UVLEM is upgrading to a newer Version which is SGH-T999UVLH2
I don't think the over the air (OTA) mode is working right now because I did many tries and it keep saying device up to date so if you want to try it us KIES. if you version of KIES is not up to date you will have to update it first then you will be able to upgrade the phone.
it will take about 10 to 15 minutes of your time and it will depend on your connection.
everything like root will be gone after the update. :victory:
ok after you update, you will be able to go back and use the same method you use to to root the older version and install a different boot.
mine is working fine I don't find any problem yet.

You can't do ota updates if you're rooted and running a custom recovery. Devs are already working on a flash zip
