Video Calling - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hi everyone!
I was wondering how to make a normal carrier-based video call with my T-Mobile Galaxy S2. I have this phone unlocked in Costa Rica and my carrier's plan include video calling. However, I can't find an option in the dialing pad of this phone for video call or anything like that. I know I can make video-calls over Wi-Fi and 3G with Skype, Qik, Fringe, Tango, etc etc, but can I do a simple video call from the dialing pad or sort of with my phone?
Thanks a lot in advance

off hand the htc devices hav that but not samsung also i dont think they will ever hav that it was a nice feature to hav and i miss it too but to answer ur question it would be no only the apps do that now so that people can make money off of us

No.

Tango does have an option to call through your contact list.

have you consider using skype for video calling?

Google talk and G+ messenger works great for me.

Which video calling app do you prefer.?

Ok as the title states, which video calling app do you prefer.? Been using tango and its been reliable, and now I see oovoo, now has support for the gs2 as well, so what are your experiences please.
Been using only Tango and it does its job pretty good. Can't complain, if anyone knows other apps please share the hint
Yes tango for me as well has been amazing, been calling my wife on holiday in Africa and despite the poor network over there it has managed to work, and also now oovoo, seem to support the gs2 so will be putting it through the paces tomorrow when I cal my wife.
I use yahoo messenger. Fring looks pretty good as well with group video chat. Yahoo needs a special application from xda to work

Google Talk Video
is free, and it works like Skype 2
the only information, hard to gather from the use of these apps, is which is more data effeicient, i would put my money on google, being the native app, but its hard to tell, and am really feeling it, more so now that my wife is in a country, were data is very expensive.
Tango is brilliant

Have tried just about everything and every time I keep coming back to Tango.
So the answer is Tango. Reliable and best quality of them all.
skype ftw!! but only on desktop pc. i'll use whichever connects me to my gf, in this order.
Skype > Tango > Fring > gtalk(cuz she have an iphone so this is last)
last time i checked oovoo is not for sgs2 yet so i'm gonna try now.
Skype. Not because it's the best, but because everyone else already has it, and it supports both phone to phone, and phone to PC.
A lot of the other apps look really great, but it's a huge PITA making someone sign up for a service and install even more software just to talk to me.
Just a heads up oovoo, video calling now officially supports the gs2, haven't tried it myself but it looks promising.
tried it with my gf's iphone 4. voice is great but my sgs2 video will hang/stuck while my gf's image is smooth like a soap.
I use fring (it can connect to all my other msgrs except skype). The group video function is also very handy

video calls

No idea how to make video call on cellular network
I can't find the Video option in stock dialer.
I am wondering too. I come from Galaxy S2 wich has the possibilty of video calls without any extra app. When i called a friend who has a htc Sensation XL we made a video call.
3g video calling
Phones like nokia 5800 etc were equipped with this facility and I have used it once. But latest HTC android are not having this option at all.

[Q] Any app for video calling?

Hey as we all know our htc one x does not support native video calling over 3G so is there any way we can enable it or use any app to gain this function ??

Thanks for the reply guys....hope HTC adds this function in a future update!
It doesn't support it? Really? The native Talk app worked just fine for me to video call over 3G.
Well thats nuts. No video calling over 3G for those whom have network support.
Does anyone know where the restriction is put in place, its obviously not a ICS issue since my SGS2 worked fine. And we have a Front camera lol, thoughts?

Android does not natively support it. But Samsung Androids do have it, so it is possible. Was hoping that HTC would follow, unfortunantly there doesn't seem to be a lot of demand for it.
There are already several issues with google to enable it like this one.

Cos that's the Google Talk app, which by default just happens to come installed.. It's not something built into the OS, and you can only call people who have the app installed as well. Native video calling would mean toe ability to video call anyone whose phone supports it, regardless of OS.
I believe UK was one of the first to have video calling back in 2004/2005 (in your face steve jobs, facetime over wifi in 2010 on a phone is not revolutionary!)
anyway, yes there is a difference between video calling on the network and video chatting using an app over the data connection.
I think the main reason for dropping video calling is the lack use by the consumers, here in the video calling minutes have been dropped from monthly tariffs now, i'm guessing due to the lack of supported devices and also the lack of use, most consumers seem to be more interested in the data services side which is much more useful.
Thanks mate for the update.

Video Calling on the Note 2

Hello all
I have a quick question regarding video calling on Android. Previously, with my iPhone I could use Skype or Facetime to make a video call, however, this does not seem to be an option. I am not expecting Facetime to work but Skype is only giving me the option to make regular calls, and not free internet / video calls.
I have enabled video calling in the settings options but that has not changed a thing. What do people use for video calling on these things? I used it a lot with my iPhone and would like to continue using it on this Android phone.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
I am using Skype video calling with no problems
Hi,
Free video calling works fine on Skype on my SGN2. Besides this, other apps like talk, fring etc also work fine. Though the video quality depends on network speed and may be jittery at times.
Maybe you can try to uninstall and reinstall the Skype.
Cheers!!!!
The video call via skype works properly on my device. You may be uninstall the current skype soft and then, reinstall it and dont forget to reset your device before signing in the new skype. Hope it could help

Beating the dead horse, Tango works good as well.

Like others said, video calls seem to be working fine on my SGN2, both native and Skype. Make sure you have enabled the video calls from the settings menu in Skype, otherwise you should uninstall, delete cache and data and reinstall

International ROMs have the option. I'm running Echoe ROM and have the video call button to the left of the standard call button on the dialer and also on contact pages.
If I try to place a video call, it brings up the video calling screen with options to switch camera or hide me, and says dialing, but then fails and asks if I'd like to try a voice call instead. I'm not sure if it fails because T-Mobile doesn't allow it, or if it's because the other party doesn't have native video calling (I don't think I know anyone who does).
OP, if you'd like to PM me, I can give you my number to see if it works between two parties with native video calling. At least that way we could determine whether or not it's a network limitation.
