Firstly i woke this morning to find out HTC has unlocked our bootloaders which is fantastic. So like everybody else i immediately followed the instructions and unlocked it... (piece of cake)
But i was in town today and thought well now the bootloader is unlocked i'll get s-off aswell then i'm free from everything.
Went to the shop asked the guy and he had a xtc-clip and made the gold card what he thought was switching s-off.
But later after getting back home i noticed to my horror that S-ON is still showing.
I still have the gold card files on my sd-card.
Is there anything i can do to turn s-off now? do i still need the clip? would a bootloader change maybe work?
Please help if you can people
Many Thanks
You still need clip. goldcard is useless without the clip's SIM-Card simulator

Thank you for verifying that this update likely patches XTC exploit though. Fine if it's exploited then you unlock but not the other way around. I had my suspicions of this.
Think I'll stick with HBOOT 1.08 and skip the 1.08.099
As the other gent said. You need the sim dummy in place to S-OFF the phone. Go back to the shop and get him to do it again.
If not try downgrading to 1.08 hboot by performing a Euro RUU 2.3.5 update then go back to the shop. He shouldn't charge you to do it again. Just don't mention your little upgrade and unlock...

RUU 2.3.5 Update does not work any more after updating hboot
Oh i've been back twice since i found out that S was still on. The guy didnt even know what the S flag was about as he was more of a iphone lover. so thats why i asked him to redo it for me and i'll have the files on my sd card.
I read somewhere on a forum in the last hour that the clip sometimes doesnt sit in the sim slot correctly causing the clip not to function correctly. So that was probably the case.
If i reflashed a lower ruu wouldnt that then relock the bootloader? Just a thought.
Has anybody got a link to the ruu that had the 1.08 bootloader and not the 1.08.099 version?
oh sorry i know lots of questions but one thing i did know when he did the gold card and had the connection into the phone the CLIP was powered off a USB connection but i'm sure ive read somewhere that it needs to be powered by a 9v battery is that correct?
Anyway i have to wait now until monday before i can do anything.......
would liked to have flashed a new rom tonight but obviously cant
Many Thanks

Did you try flashing this one FROM hboot?
Worth a shot. If not look into the thread on downgrading hboot versions. Around here somewhere.

Will have to look into that a bit later
Might be worth the moderators putting a notice up about the possibility that HTC whilst unlocking the bootloader have patched the CLIPS S-OFF function until we get some more information on it

I think the first step is to go back to that shop and get the guy to try S-OFF again and see if he just didn't clip it right. Seems odd that he wouldn't verify it at the time.
Anyone worth their salt would have rebooted to hboot and checked...
I'd rather that then sound a general alarm.

Hi guys... A colleague of mine just got a branded orange desire hd and asked me to debrand it for him.
I've never flashed a HTC phone.
I looked through the forums and did the following on an old laptop at work:
1. Made a gold card.
2. Downloaded stock 1.32 rom
3. Downloaded test 1.15 rom
4. Unzipped 1.32 then opened up 1.15 and copied 1.32 over the temp.
5. Went through the flash process and confirmed I wanted to upgrade from 1.40 orange to 1.32 stock.
6. The software rebooted the phone to the HTC screen.
7. The software says 'sending'.
8. This process was started at 6 pm... But was continuing at 8 pm!
The laptop is old (centrino processor)... So I have left it to run over night...
What are your thoughts? If it's done in the morning I'm okay... But what do I do if not?
Thanks

has the DHD rebooted yet? or are you still booted into the os? if it hasent rebooted yet you could try flashing the ruu from fastboot. also check the software version on the phone, mine was orange branded and came with the 1.40.xxx version and was easly rooted using visionary with no downgrade needed
It's booted into the HTC screen?

i woulnt touch it then, if its flashing bootloader or radio you could perm brick it...... best bet is to just wait, but it only took me about 10 minutes to flash an ruu
This is the problem... I think it's just taking AGES because the laptop is just sooooo sloooooooooow! When I originally opened the RUU it took about 5 minutes to open.
At least you have confirmed it is flashing and what I have done would usually have been correct.
Hopefully it's finished by tomorrow. If it isn't, any other ideas?

only other option is just to bite the bullet and disconnect it. as long as you can boot into the bootloader you can always flash the ruu from fastboot, obviously by disconnecting it you also run the risk of bricking it
Thanks. So, IF I need to disconnect it...
How do I get to the bootloader? And do I need some software for fastboot commands in windows?

if you have htc sync installed you will already have the hboot/fastboot drivers. to flash an ruu from fatboot, turn the device off then hold volume down and press the power key (keep vol down held down) this will bring up the hboot screen, use the volume buttons to navigate the menu till fastboot is selected, press the power button to confirm, when in fastboot just connect to the pc and run the ruu
Fantastic! Thanks a lot!

Update! Got in today and found this error:

Try it the pd98img.zip method. It has much better success.

it means you made the goldcard unsucessfully. liike i said check the current version number on the rom. if it says 1.4x.xxxxx. you dont need to downgrade, you can root using visionary then s-off

I can't sell rooting to my colleague for some reason The pd98img.zip seems like a good way to go (it's the same method I used to use on my xperia x1), but will I need to fix the gold card to do this? And, if not... Does this completely wipe the phone?
Is rooting the least likely to brick? I might just ask to take it home and do it myself! (Though I haven't quite figured out the s-off method yet).
Thanks,

you cant s-off without rooting i thought you were trying to downgrade the rom so you can root and s-off. what im tryna say is, if you have the right software version you dont need to downgrade to root

No... don't want root... He just wants to debrand his phone. Orange sticks a load of bloatware on their version like a fake market and their own map application etc as well as a load of game demos.
So, all I am trying to do is go from orange to stock firmware. So, just need to install the stock rom. Does the pd98img need a gold card? I'll try and do that again on Monday if necessary... Is there anyway to confirm the gold card is correct before trying to flash?
Thanks again... sorry to be such a bore with this... it just seems so much more complicated than I'm used to (Flashing Xperia X1 and Galaxy S).

So, I bricked my phone. I installed latest OTA and now my hboot is 1.08.0000 again. these are the problems:
- recovery was reset to stock
- unlocked bl locked again
- system partition messed up, stucking in bootloop even after factory reset
- can not create goldcard bc. no adb access.
so has anyone an idea?
Are you able to boot to hboot > fastboot usb?
If so, unlock your bootloader with HTCdev again.
Then push CWM recovery to it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1469928
and do a full wipe.
The FOTA changed my software number. Flashing the HTCDEV RUU does not work anymore.
Please elaborate on 'FOTA', what did you do exactly? Were you on a stock rom rooted or?
Find the hboot RUU update to match the new software from the htcdev site.
I was on a stock rom. I updated normally and somehow my system partition get screwed. so I am stick in bootloop and factory reset does not work.
As I already told, the ruu update from htcdev does not work anymore on my device, because my software number was changed and HTC did not update the ruus for the new software version.
Actually I'm experienced with flashing. But it really screwed up my whole device ...

Yes, it would. If no one has a brilliant idea it is the only solution.
damn, so expensive. the clip costs 1/3 of the phone's full price
hmmm, you could check in an unlock shop. normally around £10 to clip.
you could ask for htc to repair as part of warranty - as it was their own FOTA that ruined it. but don't know if it can be claimed like that..
can't you access fastboot? or adb via hboot or something?

Well, A new WFS cost about 180€ here. XTC Clip with shipping 52€
so it is almost 1/3 of the new price.
and in germany we don't have phone shops having a clip, in fact it IS kind of illegal (at least if an official shop does it for money)
I'll try to find a clipper and if nothing helps I will have to buy the clip ...

thx eoghan, tried that already yesterday. problem is, now my software no. is 2.13.403, so installing 2.13.402 leads to a main version is older error.

If it's relocked, they may have no clue. Just because you signed up and installed the new hboot..
Ever since the 2.13.401.3 FOTA was released I told you, that I was negotiating with HTC to get officially unlocked bootloader for this version because FOTA reset the HBOOT.
Fortunately, now HTC heard our (especially MY prayer) and provided us with a new RUU for the latest version.
AND IT ALSO REVIVED MY PHONE
so, PAAAAAAARTYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
hi
on friday I got a desire which belonged to a friend of mine and now through me becomes the phone of another friend. the phone was already rooted (I was the one who did it initially too) but that was a long time ago and there was no custom recovery (I think we used some kind of tethered-recovery) or anything like that on the phone. so I decided to correct that. my target was custom recovery, root, new rom, s-off preferably data++
unrevoked and revolutionary did of course not work for me so I decided to just flash the GB RUU basically like described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626405
and that worked pretty good but now the phone is stuck in a bootloop which resets the phone right after starting the rom. I already tried reflashing the ruu (via goldcard just to be safe, though I am pretty sure I have the correct one (tmobile DE branded, t-mob101), that however did not change anything.
so now I don't really know what to do, please help me
thanks in advance
what's the hboot info?
thaaanks a lot. in the german forum so far noone has been repyling at all since yesterday.
fastboot and recovery (though stock) works btw.
fastboot / hboot info:
Bravo PVT1 Ship s-on
hboot-1.02.0001
Microp-031d
touch panel-synth101
radio-5.17.05.23
Jul 22 2011, 16:19:16
yeah recovery isn't gonna help..
Think you can only try the 2.3 RUU again.. otherwise you can't do much more.
------
If that doesn't work (after a couple of tries).. then the process is to:
- find an XTC Clip (they're expensive, not worth buying, look into whether some phone repair shops have them)
- S-OFF the phone with the xtc clip
- Download an alpharev stock bootloader pb99img (rename it to pb99img), put it on your sd-card and update it from hboot
- Do a full wipe in fastboot
- flash recovery
- flash a rom
then I have a serious problem. apart from trying over and over again I have no choice? because I as mentioned I already tried it twice.
could the radio be a problem because the point where the phone reboots should be the moment when it normally asks for the sim pin?
can you please point me to the absolut right RUU file? I just want to be cautious.
starting the ruu installer, getting the rom.zip file (which seems to contain nothing if I open it on the computer?), renaming it to PB99IMG.zip putting it onto the goldcard and starting into fastboot is the right way?

Ohh so it boots? If it does, boot it without inserting the sim, enable USB debugging, run revolutionary to S-OFF, flash recovery, backup the ROM, do a full wipe and flash a custom ROM.. see what happens then.
sorry if it was that easy I would have done that a long time ago ^^°
the phone also reboots if there is no sim inserted.
can I maybe flash some other RUU? another GB version, WWE instead of tmob UK/DE or even Froyo?) even newer stuff? I read something about a 1.03 hboot somewhere? as long as I get this running again I am pretty much willing to do anything. however I still wonder why this is happening.
I am dieing a little bit here, I'm so stupid
is it possible that I really messed up badly here:

so still.. why is exactly is not working and how can I fix it...
no there is only 1 GB RUU.. try installing it from the .exe (boot into fastboot, plug it in, run RUU.exe).. see what happens then
i didnt know you could install RUUs from fastboot.

Umm nah, just when it boots, is it really hot? i.e. hotter than you would expect it to be...
Try sticking it in the freezer for 15 minutes in a plastic bag, then try turning it on again..

I would not say it gets any hotter than usual however freezer it is

no, can only use revolutionary when booted into the ROM unfortunately
If you got hold of an XTC clip as mentioned before however...
The freezer thing? some Deisre's have faced hardware faults before causing them to overheat, reboot all the time etc. if you tried to use a RUU it would always fail.. sticking it in the freezer helped.. for a few minutes.. so trying to see whether this is the problem.

But for now yes, S-OFF the phone with revolutionary and flash a custom recovery, then backup, do a full wipe (boot, system, data, cache, dalvik) and flash a custom ROM. Cyanogenmod is a good place to start (need to flash google apps after flashing CM though)

Yes, it always says:
FAILED (status read failed (too many links))
Probably because its 2.10 RUU and mine is on 3.11?
Yeah an s-on phone wont allow you to flash an ruu version older than the one already on the phone. And unfortunatley, we do not have the newest ruu available yet.
So there's nothing I can do but wait? I was pretty sure I had everything flashed back to stock but once I turned S-ON it wouldn't let me go past the bootloader. My phone's sound completely stopped working so I was going to take it in to get it taken care of, but I guess I can't do anything at all now.
You can probably still flash the RUU if you get the correct one i would assume. I've reset the tampered flags before also. I always made it a point to flash the older RUU's before flipping s-on for a warranty return, because it is so much easier to get s-off in case I mess something up, so not sure how being on that newer firmware is going to play out.

Lock bootloader using fastboot.
Go s-on using fastboot.
Do a signed ruu.

Why 2 ruu?
Probably not really needed, but just to be sure the phone got wiped out.
Let Me Make sure I understand

Can I or can I not flash an older RUU?
How do I get a hold of a signed RUU? Is it the one that says decrypted?
Will this at least allow me to wipe the phone to where it does not say tampered?
I could have sworn I have tried these RUU's but I get a remote signature error.
No if you are s-on you can not flash an ruu which is an older version than the phone is currently on.
The signed and decrypted (not signed) ruu's can be found at the bottom of the second post of santods rom radio kernel thread in development. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46506621
In order to remove the tampered flag you would need to get s-off again. I believe there is a new exploit for 4.2.2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51481200, if you want to go that route.
Remote sig error is because you were trying to flash an unsigned ruu while s-on.
oh well

Welp, a couple seconds in the microwave solved my dilemma. I hope. It won't come back on.
Next question, my replacement device has 4.4.2 on it. Will the current S-off tools work to flip it from S-on to S-off?

Stuck Bootloader
Hi i need help. I am stuck in bootloader with s On and relocked. Ive read everything and no go. Please help any one
Hi all!
I have updated my WWE M8 (HTC_001) to Android 5.0.1 (via OTA). Since that I am facing really annoying issue.
The system itself works fine, no problems with Wifi, Vinration, etc. however it is switching off by itself.
Battery is well over 50 % charge (last time it was 88% and phone has switched itself off).
I don't know if it's the system itelsf or some app running in the background.
Today I thought I am gonna try installing 5.0.1 from scratch and I have flashed RRU via recovery, still same.
So about an hour ago I decided to root it, and I have installed Android Revolution HD 34 and problem still persists.
I don't know what is the cause of that, maybe someone has faced same problem ? Any advice would be much appreciated, cause at this moment in time I am no table to downgrade AFAIK. Sunshine doesn't support ART yet, so I have to wait for downgrade... But hopefully someone will know where is the issue ?
HTC One M8 (HTC_001) WWE
Android Revolution HD 34
Rooted
TWRP 2.8.4
Bootloader unlocked
S-ON (I was S-OFF while on KK but I S-ON'ed again to get rid off red info in HTC error reporting)

well you say there that you have s-off so you can downgrade firmware, hboot and software. Once s-offed it won't go back to s-on only by specific commands.
A ruu doesn't change it either. So it's a good option to try and ruu it back to kitkat.
Or try to recalibrate the battery. You can find more info here

Whoops, I have made a mistake in my first post, I am currently S-ON. I S-OFF'ed using Sunshine as I was flashing RUU from this thread http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/general/htc-one-m8-european-signed-ruu-0p6bimg-t2911563.
Originally my phone was from Three UK (H3G_001) and I've had to change CID to HTC_001 to flash RUU from thread mentioned above.
Afterwards I have put my phone back to S-ON using All-In-One Toolkit.
So currently I am S-ON with no option to S-OFF (Ias far as I know), so it looks like I 'm gonna have to stick to Lollipop.
I apologise for misleading in my first post, I really don't know how could I mix S-ON with S-OFF (and vice versa).
If I would be S-OFF I would know what to do but...
Anyway I will have a go with battery re-calibration and I will post results later on. But if someone knows different way or solution please let me know.
In the meantime thank you @Mr Hofs for your reply, maybe battery re-calibration will do the trick.

There is in my opinion no reason to ever go back to s-on (aside from warranty service), so this was a serious error on your part.

Yeah, now I know that, but since this is my first Android phone, i was doing everything first time (I am glad that it is actually working at all , thanks to XDA Dev forum). If I will manage to get S-OFF again, i will keep it S-OFF...
Ok, I tried both ways to re-calibrate the battery and still no luck, just about half an hour ago the phone switch off itself again. It looks Iike I will have wait for Sunshine to be updated for Lollipop support. Unless there is other way to S-OFF...
Anyway thanks for all replies
