Idk if this was already asked or not but whats a good rom for games i use cm7 nightly 256 right now and i get decent speed but i wanna have a nice rom or kernel or combo of both so i can play and hack games a little faster im using godmode kernel right now and its decent over clocked but i just feel like i could get better performance on mc3 or dungeon defenders thanks in advanced even if there isn't a good rom a good way to make games run smoother

Try decks 1.3d with salvage Zen 2.2.1 Cfs kernel, best setup for gaming.

I'm running cm7 stable and tiamat 4.1 SBC and my phone is fast but I also have v6 supercharger kick ass kernalizer overclocked to 1.2

I think your keyboard is broken. Your period and comma keys don't seem to be working.
if your going to use deck 1.3d you should run it with tiatmat 3.3.7 check my signature for the links. it is lean and mean... i use FPSE (psx emulator) often with no problems. 1.3d is just leaner than 1.3. and tweaking it with car o dope tweaks.... games like buttah

I've been looking around at new kernels (the one I have now is murdering my battery).
What is the difference in CFS and BFS kernels?
I know that it has to do with the scheduler, but what are the pros and cons of each in terms of the Evo?
Thanks, guys.
Your best bet is to try them out. It can be subjective, depend on usage, and differant bugs depending on release. This compounds individual bias as few can say they've tried them all.

You've got try them out for yourself. Not all EVOs are created equal.

After reading this (mainly the conclusion), I went with BFS.
http://www.cs.unm.edu/~eschulte/data/bfs-v-cfs_groves-knockel-schulte.pdf
I wasn't sure if there was a consensus about which is better. That's why I was asking.
Off to try new kernels...
Thanks, guys.
I just saw your ISP. Clemson?

lol sike
bfs... performance it better. still a lil buggy on the phones but works good for me. as the .34 kernal becomes more developed it should get much better
Yeah, yeah. Spot the * ball.
Haha.
Football season is here, boys. Get ready.
Thanks Terp and Wreck.
Amen to trying them out. I have been largely happy with the CM6 stock kernel but a 3D game (Dungeon Defenders) was getting a little choppy; I was feeling saucy the other night and decided to experiement with kernels with the express purpose of improving 3D game play. After reading around this site and others, I was sure I would end up using a BFS kernel of some sort as that - at least according to my tiny brain - seemed ideal for a single, resource intense process. I flashed the SnapTurbo 7.6 BFS and it actually made the game worse! The Evo was otherwise quite snappy. I flashed the ST 7.6 CFS thereafter and actually enjoyed the marginal benefit in the game I had hoped for.
So, again, just try it! Much luck
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894880 You're welcome.
Personally, I prefer CFS, works for me quite nicely.
I find the phone feels a little snappier on a BFS kernel, and tends to score higher in the benchmarks using the same CPU frequencies/voltages and governor...but the CFS kernel usually has better battery life and seems to be more stable.
Cfs or bfs kernel

I think CFS is a far more stable version than the BFS and its quite well refined, Iam using Francos 19.2 kernel
What you guys think for best battery life no sbc kernel bad for battery looking for a good kernel to run with elite 3 and virus airborne beta. Been using net kernel latest no cfs no sbc no suv bfs did try one ziggy kernel on older 5.4 airborne Rom.thanks finally figured out how to get sense running on airborne beta .

HERE you can compare kernels. But i personally like a kernel that more aggressive. Netarchys Kernels & Ziggy's Kernels
You will have to experiment on your own and see what works best for you. Every phone reacts differently to kernels.
Personally, I have the best luck with Netarchy kernels. Ziggy kernels are completely unstable for me to the point where my system freezes up and I have to pull the battery.

ive tried all kinda kernels, nets and ziggys in my opinion are the best. right now im using nets newest 4.3.4-cfs-havs-more-sbc (More Aggressive HAVS) i get Really good battery life and evrything seems to mesh well. but from what ive been reading not all kernels work the same for different phones.
Something is wrong...

Got onto the Elite 3 ROM the other day and LOVE it! However, its absolutely chewing through my battery life (extended batteries). Went from getting at very least 12 hours on MikFroyo 4.5 & stock kernel to now sitting at 63% after 3 hours! Was using Juice Defender for a bit until this kernel. lots of people said not to with havs.
Using Nets 4.3.4 cfs nosbc haves more with Konis Elite Series 3.
Have also got Setcpu running at smartass (also tried on demand) st 245/740ish and have one screen off profile set to 245/245 powersave.
Need to find a fix because I want to stay on this ROM.
What is the best gaming ROM for my DHD? Dungeon Hunter 2 is struttering even when I overclock at 1.8 GHz ://
personally i best like ARHD because of the speed and the ext 4 support i got special kernel by Apache (dont know how its spelled ) wich can be overclocked up to 1.2 Ghz then you can always consider to get an other one but the stock one is quiet awesome btw a bit overclock is not as good as an better made ROM
hope it helped you out a bit be free to ask again
just use a relatively cleened up rom without much extras... also use leedroid kernel.... its lightening fast and you can OC up to 1.8 ghz...
Besides that most roms are capable to run games smooth... I don't see a special need to get a "gaming rom"
what is the best rom for backstab HD??
does anyone lag when playing games on the gnex? it is very choppy when playing 3d games like running fred or dungeon defenders.
im currently on stock, unrooted and am wondering if installing custom roms will improve the frame rates?
I have aokp m4 installed with Franco's latest r98 kernel and I have no lag in any game... and I play the same ones u listed plus shadow run modern combat 3 and back stab
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Modern combat 3 is very smooth, but the multitouch bug kills the gameplay
Can't speak for stock, I was only stock for 20 minutes. But I haven't experienced any lag in any games on the ROMs I've run. Games include: Shadow Gun, Flick Golf, and Asphalt 6 HD.

can u try running fred and dungeon defenders?
they are my favourite games but the lag is quite frequent on both games, especially dungeon defenders...
I tried Running Fred and it indeed shutters 2 or 3 times per seconds. What is strange it that it seems to do it for several frames.
I'd guess the game has a bad rendering pipeline.
Just tried Running Fred, no lag. CM9 currently with stock CM9 kernel, GSM phone.

If you're not familiar with fast boot and/or adb, that's the safest bet. I'd encourage you to at least review the fast boot method however.

I'm running cm9 with glados kernel, default settings. No lag for fred, and the only lag in dungeon defenders is when they spawn the new waves.

I play Dead Space on Android and it is as smooth as you could ever imagine. But there is occasionally a few lag and buggy, but it doesn't bother me much. Also, multitouch is a breeze on that game too. It's rooted, stock ROM
kind of sucks that you have to root and flash a rom in order to play certain games lag free
I'm rooted but on stock...i'll give the games a try and let you know from my end. It's a better comparison since I'm on stock too.
The other posters who have custom kernels and roms are obviously going to have different results.
I'm on stock too and no lag at all for Super Monkey Ball Sakura and The Sims FreePlay.

Aw, I thought he's asking about gaming in general on GNex.
It's probably a better idea to email the app developers than asking here.

who knows if you have to; there's obviously a selection bias here in that most of us already have custom roms/kernels installed.
Awaiting your stock results.

Just tried out running fred...definitely not "very choppy" for me. I am getting slight stutters usually when one of those "checkpoint reach" pop ups come the framerate will stutter a bit and the sound will as well. Nothing seriously bad, I've run into certain parts of Shadowgun that will have similar behavoir.
Not 100% but doesn't make the game unplayable for me. I'd suggest check to see if you have any background processes that are slowing things down for you. Maybe a bad app somewhere is ruining your 3d gaming experience. Also, game might not be fully optimized for us yet so might be a good idea to get in touch with the developer and let him know.
I won't be able to check dungeon defenders second wave today because my internet and 3g coverage is spotty right now at my hotel. And the extra content will take forever to download.
Hope this post helps a bit.
Ok so after about a month of running unrooted stock I have just installed aokp + Franco kernel and this seems to have a positive impact on the gaming performance. Running Fred runs quite a lot smoother now. But I haven't tried dungeon defenders yet. Will probably post results again when I have the time, but still its enlightening to know and let the community know that the custom roms and kernels not only benefits in synthetic benchmarks like quadrant but also in real-world application performance.

Out of curiosity, which governor are you using? Settings -> ROM Control -> Performance
Looking for suggestions for better battery life and yes I read the wiki on it. I'm more concerned about what is a good combo for rom, kernal, baseband, pri version, webkit, and recovery. Right now i'm disatisfied with my battery time. On a side note I have cricket also I posted a screen shot of whats running on my phone.
I've been trying to achive best for a year. Decks+tiamat used to be it. Nowadays, in my opinion, you can't beat reloaded + Mason kernel + undervolting via vipermod. Because reloaded is so light you can underclock without noticing. Differing opinions on baseband/price/NV, but for me the latest is always the best. Zeam launcher seems to the lightest launcher.
If u decide to experiment with different roms and battery life be sure to give them a few days.
