is it me or is TouchWiz getting boring by the ... i think the UI needs a few more features (sense much) lol , but basically what im saying is its really plan and the development haven't pick up heavy yet on the t-mobile version which makes it sucks more.. Just wait bro. The Tmobile version is relatively new and like many other devices it might take a while for this section to get populated. A far as touch wiz goes, I actually kinda like it. It makes the sgs2 what it is, it gives it it's personality

Touchwiz is great some people like stock android but I hate it, you lose too much like lock screen controls separate wallpapers for lock screen, drop down power options in notification, the tw apps like email which are better then stock and files etc... to me stock Android is bland cyanogen fixes it a bit but its ugly tw could use some of the features of sense though that would be awesome.

Just got the phone yesterday, and and after using Sense for a long time TW does feel a big lacking.

I agree. I came from a sensation and the gs2 feels old because of the software. Sense is much more modern and smooth. Gs2 is fast but its more snappy than smooth. Get what I'm trying to say? When you open something it just snaps into place but with sense its more of a smooth sensational feel Lmao. On the flip side the gs2 is much more sexy!

you talked about Sense? I think it is the most over rated and most bloated piece of donkey's shiit ever put on Android devices.
Loaded Go Launcher when I first go it and never look back. Phone is much faster and more customization

since we dont have a q&a section yet ill ask this here. CM7 or stock or whatever .i personally would just like to see an improved version of the stock Rom with all the optimizations. Cm7 really did nothing for me i guess a little too vanilla ...any thoughts?
I want to see all the bloat removed. I have no idea why t-mobile bloatware apps lead to download more bloatware apps. I will like to see Miui and Cm8. Hopefully Ice cream sandwich is all its cooked up to be.
I came from the SGS 4g community, and i am a big fan of Whitehawkx - Valhalla Rom, and before that i like all of Team Acids work especially dsexton702's Adrenaline Shot (although not a rom, very helpful in making virtually making an Samsung rom smoother the melted butter XD)
So something along those lines.
on a side not i read that Whitehawkx was to pick up an SGSII today and was planning to see what he can do with it so im pretty excited. plus Team Aicd says they have things in store for our phone as well.
Well im looking forward to cm7 or 8 and other roms especially getting rid of all the bloat! But i heard Whitehawkx was passing on it for prime?
Well i guess we will have to wait and see what he does.
i have never got to play around with CM but looking forward to it, and cant wait to get rid of all the bloat!
CM7 and CM8 (ice cream 4.0) is definitely a must have
Looking forward to a sense port....
I kid, I kid.
I'd just like the bloat gone and root. Some miui would be great too though.

I realize the cpu is not as fast as samsungs...but shouldnt the dual core run atleast as smooth as single core vibrant? My gs2 arrived today buy seems abit choppy compared to my Vibrant.

i think the OP is up in smokes
this phone is faster that any of the old Hummingbird based phones (i9000, vibrant, Nexus S, captivate, etc)
just remove all the Tmo crapware then it'll be butter smooth
It can be a bit choppy or of the box but I found it good
Flash juggernaut and bullet kernel if you would like to get the most out of your phone right note. It Is a very smooth experience
Bullet really solved most of the.choppiness for me atleast
You will not be disappointed
That is my opinion but many will call it fact
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
It does get way smoother when debloated, but some of the choppiness won't quite go away. I think there's something going on in the drivers or something.

The dual core processor in our GS2 is definitely faster and more efficient than the Vibrant's Hummingbird processor. I'm surprised that you said the Vibrant feels faster and smoother than our phone. Is the Vibrant rooted? A stock Vibrant can never feel no where near as fast and smooth as this phone especially with the stock RFS file system Samsung used to use back then on the first set of Galaxy S devices.
The issue with our device is the lack of proper optimization with the software for our processor so you'll notice occasional lag bit nothing as bad as RFS.

OuncE718 that's an excellent point
compare apple to apple, and not apple to pears
the stock Galaxy S family is slow as molasses, but once rooted and with a good polished custom ROM it's as fast as a SGS2
the SGS2-T989 stock is way faster than anything i've ever seen before coming out of the box from the manufacturer
i was not happy with the out of the box experience of i9000, vibrant, captiave, Nexus S
It has its moments when stock. But its much faster than both my vibrant and g2x IMHO.

The launcher you use makes a difference too. I'm using QQ launcher. Got tired of touchwiz dropped it like a bad habit.
With QQ, I never have any slowdown...
I'm rooted on the stock ROM by the way but had the phone like this unrooted also with no problems
i'm using Go Launcher EX, with all the effects and animations ON, same with the stock Android, enabled all the Animations and special effects, on top of that install Spare Parts to enable the hidden special effects
all running butter smooth
i did read few people saying they disabled animation to not have those micro lags, but never seen or noticed one yet

I am about to take the dive onto a ICS rom for my GSII but there are quite a few and I want to here your guyses opinions of which is best and why and which has the fewest issues etc, battery life and you know just the works in general. I am interested in ICS Perfection II, Darkside Evolution, Black Edition, T989-NexusMod, NexusMod ICS Zero Beta 7, ICS Megamix 4.0.3, and SKY ICS UCLD2. Any opinion is nice thank you
I skipped Sky due to the more involved install. But I've found them all to be very similar. They are all fast, 90% stable and none of them have particularly great battery life.
NexusMod requires touch cwm so if you don't want that, you can X that one out too.
But none of them are bad.

I used the perfection one for a while, it was a bit buggy and laggy but overall it was okay, then i switch to the blackened edition it was all good in rc-6 no call echo, but 7 echo came back for me, and rc-8(Experimental) im using right now its pretty decent, but im not a big fan of the theme, i seen the darkside evolution one and im very inclined to use it even tho it's only a beta AND initial release if you read thru the comments everybody seems to be having a good time with it and no issues so far
Thank you both for you input and I agree I like the Dark Side look alot aswell

I just flashed it after trying Black RC8 Experimental. Both are fast as heck. Battery life is kinda blah like I was saying so I'd keep a charger or spare battery around.
But in terms of stability and speed its solid.

It has the ICS touchwiz unlock screen. Not as good as AOSP imo.
As far as ROM's, My GF's GS2 is using perfection and hasn't had any problems at all.
I went with SKY ICS for mine. It was more work to muscle through, but for me it was worth it due to the customization options. Works really well.
I had Nexusmod for a day, and it was good too, but had a glitch where it would tell me "Swipe to unlock" on the bottom of the lockscreen evn though it was AOSP.
I reccomend Apex launcher with them though.
Im not new here because i have always looked around the forums when i had older phones. Now that I have a galaxy s 3 for tmobile, i felt the need to get on here and realize the true potential of this beast phone.Very interested in android developement and making this phone shine. Im ready for everyones input on whatever i have to say and will be all ears.
This phone shines out of the box. There is no need to worry about losing your imei anymore. So you can root and flash normally now. My opinion. Cm is losing its flavor. All the features of touch wiz are amazing and not really worth losing.

I use to never flash anything besides cyanogen mod. Ever since the g1 days. I had the Htc one S and gave sense a chance for the first time and altho I never felt quite comfortable I found it pretty nice and less bloated than previous builds. I then upgraded to this beast (sgs3) and I absolutely love touchwiz. I don't see me flashing cm until most bugs are sorted out and if they add a better camera, and the touchwiz motion shortcuts which I find myself using more than I thought.
I don't see what people don't like about touchwiz. It's clean and simple which is what made me fall in love with cm. I'm sure cm probably is less bloated under the hood but I'm not ready to part with touchwiz. I'll wait for cm10 stable.

So my friend and I were comparing our phones he has an iPhone, and my phone would do everything faster his phone just did everything smoother, mostly we checked how games ran, his phone in game options ex: scrolling through options and upgrades was way more smooth and responsive while mine had hiccups, gameplay was the same though, but I'm curious why the iPhone is smoother scrolling even outside of its ui into games while my Hercules beats it in specs?

Its not only hardware that determines how smooth it scrolls but also the software
In my opinion the reason I think it scrolls better has to do with apples memory management because it manages ram more smoothly so that's probably why
Also did you install custom kernel on your device?
Because if you did there would be no way you would lose

also overclock to the fullest and put in performance mode!!!!!

Lightening zap is a kernel. And as for performance once we officially get project butter everything should be fine then.

"The iPhone changed things by introducing a dedicated thread with high priority for handling UI rendering, redirecting all power (CPU and GPU) to handling UI element rendering in realtime based on touch input. The result? Smooth-as-butter UI elements, transitions and animations as soon as you touch the screen -- even on older hardware when paired with the latest iOS 5 software. The drawback: everything else, from app downloads to content rendering will pause so the UI can keep that high frame rate, high quality redraw pace."

The t989 is faster than the iPhone 4s. Geekbench 2 proves that. But in terms of smoothness the iPhone will ALWAYS win. It's just the way Android is designed. iOS sets resources aside for UI transitions and whatnot and that's why you NEVER see an iPhone stutter and spurt like Android does at times. Give Android another year or so and this issue will be a thing of the past. Unfortunately the only way to resolve this with Android is better hardware... but it's coming!

Even though ptmr3 said that adding the supercharge script was unnecessary I did it anyways just to ease my mind Lol I also added some of the battery saving mods from pmr...I keep my cpu set to ondemand/noop and slightly underclocked..and I am using the stock tw launcher ..
I think that some of the aosp ROMs out there may be slightly faster. but in my experiences they aren't as smooth as this one ..

well basically JB is the most stable ROM in my opinion that has the most support otherwise like ICS and GB don't have as much but i think that as soon as Ubuntu gets released the JB roms will be flowing like water but basically that also means that more roms will be smoother and remember that JB hasn't been officially released for our device so what there is currently is made by our awesome devs!
