I am running RandomROM el22 (THUNDER HAWK III) with shadow kernel 1.06+. this morning, I just noticed that sprint managed to update my modem to el30. Can and should I update the kernel to a el30 version? RandomROM does not yet have a el30 ROM, so trying to see what pieces
I can upgrade.
Thanks

RandomKing is working on EL30 update to my knowledge. You could wait for him to update the rom or move to the couple of EL30 roms that's in the devs. section; there's EL30 kernels too

Do you think I should upgrade to el30 kernel for now?

There's really no overall benefit right now. You should stay on what you have until some deep reworking of the EL30 kernels are done.

You shouldn't mix kernels and ROM versions. If an EI22 ROM should stay on EI22 kernel. Modems are independent of everything and can be mixed.
Thanks all. No idea I had the modem upgraded. Thought that was something I have to do, not something sprint pushes.

Thanks for adding this. Have people been having good success with this compared to the stock el29 modem?

For me in norcal, fc24 modem gives me better 3g connectivity than fc22. But I haven't compared it to el29. But newer is always better right?

Ha agreed. I might as well at least give it a try and see how well it works with CM9.
Thanks Sextape.

You can use any Modem with any Kernel. You could install it just fine on an EL29 Kernel.

Can't you just flash through CWM? That's what I did when I was testing out modems. I'm on Blazer 4.0 and started with EL29. Tried a whole bunch and ultimately went back to EL29. I tried FC24 and it seemed like I wasn't getting reception a lot of places and a lot of times when I tried to upload pics to Facebook, it would fail. I went home and tested with speedtest.net and I was getting only like 250kb/s down and 20kb/s up. So I sat there for 30 mins testing out modems; flash, update profiles/PRL, ran 3-4 speed tests and then flashed again. FD19 was around 800/75, FD16 was 400/50 and all the results were Evdo-0 and FB27 was 900/50 while EL29 1.2Mb/200.
Ya, you can flash the modems zip in cwm.

Sorry if this was addressed before in another post but...
Is there any benefit of rolling back to stock EL29 and then OTA updating it to FF18 and root it than continually using sfhub's FF18 Full Restore - Rooted?
Like is there any small changes between the two, even though they are the same kernel, build and everything?
Sorry for the newb question ;x
Nope.

Try them all is all you can do each one is going to be different for everyone.
It is lack of signal that kills the battery, not the modem. So if you find
A modem that gives you better signal for you then that is the best you are going to get.

I have tried all the new epic modems and I still keep ending up back on EC05. Once the patch is completed for CM9, I will be trying out the nexus modems!
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
The nexus modem helped me out a lottttt on cm7. I used to barely ever get a bar in my basement so my battery always died cuz of searching but I'm very very impressed now.
Btw, is there a "post your battery life" thread for us? I want to show off lol.
