Sorry if this was addressed before in another post but...
Is there any benefit of rolling back to stock EL29 and then OTA updating it to FF18 and root it than continually using sfhub's FF18 Full Restore - Rooted?
Like is there any small changes between the two, even though they are the same kernel, build and everything?
Sorry for the newb question ;x
Nope.

How can I be getting the update. If. I'm on juggernaut? Is this possible? It would probably brick my phone?

I got the same msg. I'm on beast mod. I was getting it through device management so I used TB to uninstall it as I'm thinking it's going to break my root....

Is this your after update? You still have the old baseband Joser.

I'm assuming this is the update for 2.3.6 and wifi calling?
I got the same OTA notification, running Juggernaut 3.7
Did you guys install the update? Or just get a notification?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
I don't mind updating via OTA (I'm on BeastMod now), but what I don't want to do its lose root and have to restore all the data manually.

It was a notification for the update with an option to install or postpone; I'm going to postpone mine as long as I can....not sure what that update will do being that I'm rooted and on Juggernaut.
I'm sure one of the dev teams will take the OTA and roll it into a ROM so we can get the update and keep everything that we're used to.
I'm still on stock and yet to get update. sucks!
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
I got the update notification too and I'm also running Juggernaut 3.7.
I'm using the EagleBlood ROM and I received the update notification today. I'm postponing it as long as I can, but is there a way to just reject the update? It's annoying seeing the icon in my notification bar.
Can any of you just pull the link please? It would be a great help to many people. Everyone keeps posting about it and that is not helping anyone.

The update is already rooted and posted. Along with the new basebands.

Yes but not all of us want to use Odin. I am very much aware of its presence in the development section. However, i can assure you that i am not alone in wanting the link/zip.

Link for what? I'm not following you. Are you wanting the actual ota zip? If so, someone who has been notified of the update can use root explorer and go to /data/cache and grab the zip.

I guess someone else tried running this update and it just took them to CMW and didn't give them the update. I just froze "device manager" from TB so i don't have those annoying update arrows. I will wait for the new juggernaut when they update it. I'm in no rush
Alright just curious about this ICS update that is supposed to be coming to EG4T starting June 12. My phone is currently rooted but I'm still on EL29 stock GB ROM. So my question is will I be able to update over the air when it starts rolling out without having to unroot my phone, but if I do is there a good stable, stock ROM of ICS I can flash too?
Thanks

Taking OTA means your will lose root. You do not have to unroot as long as you did not remove or modify files the OTA depends on. However once again your losing root by taking the OTA.
I don't know if its been confirmed the leak FF18 is the same as the OTA FF18 but it most likely is. Getting rooted FF18 is something thats been available for a couple weeks now.
Okay cool do you know where I can find the leaked version of FF18?

Why bother? why not just download any of the pre-rooted versions of this and save yourself the time.
Sad you just got your notice, others got it weeks ago.
You're probably going to root again anyway, so why not use the one click ff18 that's already rooted? also, you didn't have to wait for the ota, you could've had this weeks ago. The ota and ff18 leak have been verified to be exactly the same release

Yeah I didnt know that the leaked FF18 would end up being the official release.
Rooting was no big deal. I've already rooted, and replaced the kernel on the OTA update.
Anyone know of a good rom that has fixed all of the issues with the OEM ICS?

I have a rooted s2 which I just rooted the other day, but now I'm getting an alert For an update. I don't wanna lose root.
is there anyway to block it?
or update it and not lose root?
thanks in advance

Yes. And if you are on a custom rom it may just bootloop. You may be able to find an ota killer on here.

There's also this, don't know if you have seen; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1774282
edit: It has been found not to be build specific. Meaning it was put out when FF18 came but it has been used after and stopped FH13 as well)
And then this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31192830&postcount=29
But if you want to update and stay stock (you'll have to odin/mobile odin a custom recovery) check out this handy thread by Rwilco: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903252
One easy thing to do would also be to just get a no-data rooted one-click. that way you keep root and you also get a new build.

Source uploading to github now.
You will be able to pull from here shortly:
https://github.com/garwynn/D710SPR_FL24_Kernel
...And I've already posted in eMMC thread but the kernel is still at risk.
Don't compile based on this until we've rendered it safe.
(Know I need to modify mshci.c but need to make sure with Agat if anything else he's doing.)
When we figure it out I have a efgt we can blow up for test purposes thats not in use.

This will be the newest ICS release. It likely will be OTA. So we will go from FI27 to FL24.

Signs pointing to yes. Also supposed to patch the Exynos exploit.
Now that I rendered it safe I'm compiling it. Anyone on ICS want to test if it goes through?
So from FL16 to 24 they went back to ICS? That seems odd. Any news on reason this isn't jb?

What?
No one is going back.. Sprint/Sammy are working on ICA and JB together. FL24 is ICS and FL27 is JB. There are newer JB rdfs than FL27 too.

2 reasons: Faster to fix Exynos exploit and they needed a stepping stone apparently to get to JB properly.
Any takers on kernel tests? It's pure stock but should have Agat's recovery.
(You need to be on ICS to test this!)
