[Q] battery issue - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a 3500 battery (Ebay) in my rooted epic the battery stats reads 100 percent but when i unplug it it shuts the phone off i know about the battery stats erase in CWM 5 i cleared it but it still saying 100% and i know its not 100 because it has done this b4 when i 1st recived the battery i did break the charge cycle because i use my phone alot for work and plugged and unplugged it alot could that have ruined it
used to work great now its giving me hell

Drain it if possible then Charge it over night and see if it still does it. If not pop in the old battery boot up and then pop in the new one this should update the phone to read the actual percentage.

You have a bad battery. Same thing happened to me. Put the phone in flight mode. I bet it stays on but as soon as you turn on data, poof it goes. Someone else just had the same issue.

Try this for kicks and see what happens..wipe battery stats again.. make sure battery is fully charged. Wipe battery stats again, let battery get low, and wipe stats again, then fully charge it. If this doesn't work, u really do have a bad battery.

If the phone goes off as soon as it is unplugged the battery cannot provide enough current to keep it on....bad battery. No battery stat clearing in the world is going to magically provide more current.

Its magically delicious! Lol

Hey kenny any idea why a 3500 maH would drain as if it were a 1500maH brother has an evo and recently got a new battery and it won't drain correctly it runs through it as if it was still a 1500. And he has calibrated it and charged it for hours......?

There are good and bad 3500 mAh batteries. If you sliced them open, more often then not the cheaper ones are two 1200 mAh batteries so you are probably gaining 30-50% more life if it is a good one. The better ones are two 1500 mAh batteries. If he has gone through the wiping of battery stats and recalibration then it is more than likely not a good set of batteries. The cheaper batteries are not always a good deal.

Seidio battery dead?

Hey all. I bought the 3500 mah battery in the beginning of august and just last night started seeing the phone die even though the percentage was reporting nowhere near dead... I would charge, get the green light, and go and it'd die 15 mins later. What gives? Any tips? I am using the stock battery now and all is well. Thanks for any info you all may have !

If your stock battery works correctly, then its time to call Seidio and get a RMA.

Swapping batteries technique?

I just bought the 2x 1500mah with charger batteries from ebay, and I don't get battery swapping. Every time I switc, do I have to reset battery stats or something in order to get accurate readings? Also, will the batteries be significantly damaged if I leave them charging with the charger for say, 3 months?

Why would you want to charge your battery for three months? I think everyone knows that you should never charge a battery more than 11 weeks and six days.

The battery will retain the full charge for a long long time. I also keep a spare battery stashed and when I've have to use one, they were always either right at 100% or just a little below.
This is very easy to test. Just unplug it. In a few weeks put it in your phone. You'll see tht it kept its charge. They also last longer because there is no initial 5-10% drop.
They can last longer but if I'm heavily using them I only get about 8. They DO however always beat my stock htc one. That is always the quickest to die. I need a better way to save battery power I use juice defender and autostarts and setcpu.

so for swapping batteries, do i just power down and put the other one in? because i heard you have to reset battery stats or else battery percentages will be inaccurate
I've swapped batteries without wiping battery stats, no terrible repercussions here. I usually wipe when I switch from 1500mah battery to 3500 but not when I go back, no problems so far

I do wish there was a way to swap batteries, with phone plugged in, without powering down/rebooting.

Anyone know, is it possible that my cheap ebay extended battery causes my phone to lag? Is it possible that the battery doesn't respond well to a spike in amp draw? I swear my phone hangs & slows down more when using this battery. I need to do more testing. Is my hypothesis feasible, or is it all in my head?

battery life

OK, just got the LG OPTIMUS LTE (3rd day) and I have to say that I knew about the battery issue but didn't think it was that bad. I seem to need to recharge it 3 times during the day.
Do any of you have a magic configuration? What settings do you have configured.
My wifi is on when I am in the house. When I leave should I turn it off? Bluetooth is always on as I use it in the house an car. Screen at 50% brightness. Sleeptimer 1 minute.
Also read that with time the battery gets better. Any validaty to this?
Thanks in advance for your help
Yeah man, its not the greatest.. i try and turn brightness down alot while I'm inside. And a Gladi cut diem on game play unless you're beat a charger. Only place i have wifi on its at home. Also, I've heard that I've cream sandwich improves battery life, which Canadians are getting in q2.. So I'm suspecting it to come very soon.

Yes, ICS will improve battery life but until them I'm be purchase a 1.8amp power adaptor and a wall car adaptor at Best Buy. When MugenBattery finally do a battery that is over 3000 mamp I will buy it.
I really am loving my new phone a part for battery life just need to change old habits (had a blackberry that I charged once every 2 days)
Literally same here, i had a bold 9780 before this and i didn't use it much it would last days on end.

yeah agreed, this is the best phone i have ever used, but the battery is a bit anoying, what i did was i bought 2x replacement batteries on ebay, which came with a wall charger for them, so i bring 3 batteries to work every day, the only anoying thing is charging them at the end of the day because i only hvae 1 wall charger, if i got 2 i coulda charged all 3 at once. the other thing is when doing this its smart to calibrate batteries more often since changing batteries in and out of phone i calibrate them all on the weekend.

Go here and download the FAST DORMANCY app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2021248
After you download and install it open the app, select disable and reboot. It will make a dramatic difference in standby battery life. Only thing is it will only work if you are on stock and not on any of the CM 9/10 variants. Since I downloaded the app I can go all day on a single charge. Good news though you don't have to be rooted.

HTC Evo 4g rom help

Hi I currently have mikg rom installed on my evo but my battery life is still horrible,, does anyone know any roms that use less juice on the battery.. thats all im really concerned about? thanks
I always liked the TN Shooter ROM. Sense 3.0, working 4G, life is good. I cannot say anything about battery life though, because I use two extended batteries, but from what I can tell battery life isn't too bad. Link --

How old is your battery? When i first rooted my EVO, it could sleep overnight and lose 2%, and after a year, it wouldn't stay on 100% for more than 30 seconds. I could literally sit and watch the battery drain at this point. Age I'd a big factor in determining the battery life.
Another big factor is whether or not you are using an HTC battery, or if you purchased a 3rd party battery. Just keep those things in mind.

First things first. This belongs in Q/A . That being said. Did you do a Clean Install of the Rom ? Did you restore any Data ? What Kernel are you using ? Also this has been mentioned, but I will reiterate. If your Battery is old, or if you are using a knock off Battery it affects the Battery life.

After a long period of battery use,it will degrade as time goes on and you will lose battery cells and the battery gets weaker and wont keep a full charge, the best practice is to charge your phone fully, then let it discharge until it shuts itself off, then recharge again and do the same thing, then recharge and the battery will stay charged a little longer,is what this supposidly does is try building the cells back, but its only temporary, especially when you have an worn battery, the best roms to use for battery life, from my experience is aamikam and Tommys roms, alot of time it will also have to do with the kernel, especially if its an OC'ed kernel, look for an SBC(superior battery charge) kernel.
ok well idk what kernal it is because i cant figure out how to add one yet,, but maybe it was the batterys i bought this extended battery off ebay which had a high mah rating i thought it would last longer but it didnt wasnt a oem battery i didnt know there was a difference so i went ahead and bought a factory battery today .. thanks
Try discharging the battery than give it a full charge. If that doesn't help, try a Rom called SOS X/N.

BTW not sure if you have one or ever heard of anker batteries but anyways they sell a charger with the battery. My original EVO battery started to die very fast. I bought an anker and it seems whenever I charge the phone via USB charger vs the anker battery charger the battery will die much faster. You should try buying the anker battery charger & use the charger to charge your battery, do not use the USB cord to charge it & see if that helps any

MY Ext 4300 battery acting like a charging case

My 4300mah battery I fully charged it over note.. but when it was done said full at 88%
Now I'm noticing when it drops a few % if u put phone to sleep or come back the displayed% will jump back up a few notches
Its almost acting like a rechargeable case
Could this be cause my phone can't read this battery's mah Max %
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
It's possible, but not likely, or others would've mentioned it by now.. The battery may just not be reporting correctly. My old phone had/has similar issues with a 3rd party battery. No matter what it won't charge 86%. But I've noticed I still do get the expected life from a full charge, much more actually! So though it's annoying I just deal with it. Old phone so not a big deal anymore. But after a year and a half, it's still going strong!
I have also noticed sometimes it'll drain kinda quick at the bottom, but once it gets to 3%, it'll stay there for nearly a whole day sometimes!
This is on a MyTouch 3G Slide.

Yea that's interesting ....it still shows
Normal 1% drain constsntly but stays put when it gets lower...
Its only a knock off brand not like a seidio which is better.
I noticed my first charge and drain it was draining fast so I started to think is this junk...but toward low charge its like the batt stayed hybrenated.
Its gotta be better than the 2100 mah stock... even if it is no name brand 4300mah.
I just hope it cycles and settles with improvement cause now I lost the option for a case by choosing a ext batt which I'm not happy about no case

Never understood why people want a brick on the back of their phone. I'm using the Anker 2200 now. Works fine.

I have one (ZeroLemon 7000 mAh) and I couldn't see myself using it everyday, you might as well be a brick in your pocket. But extended batteries are nice for vacation or if you travel a lot.
To the OP, I've always wondered why extended batteries seem to "charge" themselves when the phone isn't in use for a certain period of time, the ZeroLemon battery I have always does it and I've had it it on 3% and last me a whole day. I guess the phone has a problem calculating and displaying the correct percentage.
