[Q] What rom to use? - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I run cm-7.1.0.1-buzz-signed.zip and all ok about 20 days and now sometimes just frezze or no audio on call and i must restart 10 times to work, is this better 31.DEC-2011-DK Custom Froyo V4.6.2 then cm 7?vote

You can't compare Froyo Sense ROMs (Which are modified Stock ROMs with additional features) to a source built AOSP Gingerbread ROMs.
Install it, use it, and see for yourself which is better rather than this "voting" business.

31.DEC-2011-DK Custom Froyo V4.6.2 this is not custom rom?Just asking for experience!I use cm 7 last 20 days fix gps,and some stuff and work ok,then just start to freeze restart etc.So i disappoint i cm 7 ...or not!Just now i see what create most problem deamn adw launcer.Just delite via root uninstaler and install go launcher and phone i s better now,run smooth. So i ask is better cm 7 or Custom Froyo V4.6.2?Who try both on wildfire?

I try both and they are both good at what they do, the question you need to ask yourself is do I want a sense based Rom or a aosp gb rom?

What rom do you use at the moment and why?

We have got many good developers here working on different ROMS.
I just would like to know what ROM are you all using at the moment and why.
I used most of the time Sense rom from Leedroid. I love his boot image and the fact it is sense rom. I tried Sense HD and I like it, but until the camera works is no good for me for day to day use. Last couple of days I use MIUI and it is really different but nice (like iphone OS but on better device)
I've used Defrost, Opendesire, Villainrom, SupervillainHD and Oxygen. Like the ASOP roms the best, as they are the fastest, allow me to choose the addons more (not 3 or more programs for one task, if i don't want to use Sense apps), and are more versatily (at least, appear to me to be so).
Moved to general as this is in no way pertaining to ROM development.
fair enough. I just tought the poll might help people to choose a rom to use/try.
I am using pinky desire classsic at the moment .
CM 6.1 RC - cause simply I hate to update alot. I'm considering it the latest satisfying my needs!
using pays sense rom
tried auraxtsense rom, but reverted back to pays
it has the best dialer i have seen in a rom.
would like to try sense HD, but wont until they fix the camera

What does Stock mean if you've got Sense?? Sense is stock on the Desire...

By sense rom he probably mean roms like leedroid etc.
On that assumption I voted stock as I'm running the stock 2.29.405.2 WWE ROM
Why? As it does all I need it to
OpenDesire
I went from stock ROM to OpenDesire 4.0.36. I do not miss Sense at all and BT keyboard now works (why, HTC, oh why?). The only thing I miss from Sense is the weather widget.
Too bad OpenDesire will not be updated any longer as from the final 4.1 version. I hope it gets Gingerbread (2.3) in the final build.
Leedroid, because it has apps2sd by default and is pretty clean and has some other nice little touches (but still pretty close to stock) like a transparent notification drawer
I tried all rom types, but in the end I return to Sense. People who say AOSP or Cyanogen are faster have clearly never used a sense rom. It's at least on par and scrolling is smoother.

yes that's exactly what I mean
Teppic74's Rom and tweaks: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773997
With the GPU and SD card patched kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819601
And a theme I made using UOT kitchen.
I like sense, and I wanted something relatively close to stock but with A2SD and a few other bits and pieces.

[Q] Gingerbread roms question ???

Hello, noob here, so be gentle. I want to install gingerbread on my desire but not sure which one to go for. What's the best one Oxygen 2.0 RC7, cyanogenmod cm7, etc.
Also one thing I'm not sure, when I go to the page of roms for the desire and click on the Gingerbread roms I'm given a list of different rom so I though I think Oxygen 2.0 might be the best so I might try this one but then I go to another page and it's about the rom and the download link is there but I have two options and not sure if I need to download only the first one (Oxygen 2.0 - RC7) cause below I also have this link to download Oxygen v1.0.4 (Froyo stable).
So do I download the first only, or both or oxygen v.1.0.4 only ?
And do i need to bother with any other files like radio, gapps...
I'm running 2.2 vodafone
Thank a lot for any advice.
What you like best is up to you.
Oxygen comes with Gapps, on Cyanogenmod you have to flash them yourself. If you go for Oxygen just download RC7, not the old froyo one, and flash it. No real need to change the radio but if you want you can change to the recommended one.
oh, i get it now. Yeah, will try oxygen as i want gapps. Exciting... Thanks a lot
Try Cm7 Its really getting stable by the day.. and it does not stop at rc7
I've had GingerVillain for a couple of weeks and I'd recommend looking at this too. Video camera working (although not yet at 720p), everything else works fine (wifi, gps, bluetooth). Included are lots of the cyanogenmod tweaks as well.
Very stable and runs well with eViollets 'battery efficient' kernel for longer battery life.
Personally I'd do some more reading up first on these.
Anything AOSP based is going to have boot-loop issues, video cameras are hacks at best etc.
I'm still running oxygen (latest test build) but it doesn't come without it's warnings.
Next couple of weeks should see the N1 OTA update and some fairly significant progress in GB for desire.
Excuse my ignorance but what is asop based ?
I also read somewhere that froyo is the last update for the desire. No more...
AOSP = Android Open Source Project...that's what all of these custom ROMs (CM7, Oxygen, etc.) are built on.
FroYo may be the last official update but, as you can see, the AOSP devs have Gingerbread running on it so you will see support for the Desire as long as the hardware supports it.

Just flashed back to stock 2.2

ok i have tried numerous ROMs (cm7, MIUI Desire Z 1.4, Senseginger 3.0, VillainROMZ 1.0.0, etc) and none of them seemed very stable.
pretty laggy or clunky and lots fo FC's so i went back to stock rom and
once again phone is working flawlessly.
now my question is...what now?
radios? kernels?
what do you recommend doing now that im rooted and back on stock ROM?
Have u tried virtuous?

What now?
If you're happy with the stock ROM, why did you root?
If you rooted just for the sake of rooting, then you wasted your time. Sure, you can uninstall bloatware but, really, you could have done that with temp root and PM.
Personally, I avoided MIUI (if I wanted an iPhone I would have bought an iPhone) and Sense ROMs (I don't care for eye candy) and the only lag I found with CM7 was due to ADW so I deleted it and either use the stock GB launcher or Launcher Pro and have had no lag issues.

First off, while the stock ROM is actually quite good, you don't know whether you will like newer or custom ROMs better unless you try them first.
Aside from that, there are plenty of reasons to root and stay on the stock ROM. Such as overclocking the CPU, being able to use Titanium Backup and other apps (ShootMe, AdFree), and there are other benefits, as well.
Being rooted isn't just about flashing custom ROMs.

Launcher Pro is currently my favourite launcher, it is very fast, even at stock speeds.
I've found that all ROMs can be choppy from time to time, especially when my phone is not overclocked. I'm running at 1.4GHz most the time, but that's probably overkill.
My vote if you want a "just works" feel is use Virtuous - no point using stock when Virtuous exists. It's so much better optimised and you won't miss stock at all.
thansk for the opinions guys.
since Virtuous is what was recommended...
which version do you recommend for the g2?
You'll want the newest version of Virtuous, as there isn't any significant difference between the g2 and desire z, as far as I know.
You can get the most up to date Virtuous ROM from this thread:
[ROM][04/11/11] Virtuous v1.0.2 (HTC Sense 1.85.72.2) w/Fixes & Enhancements
Alternatively it's available through ROM Manager.
If you want overclocking you'll need either the "Standard" or "Advanced" Virtuous kernel, which are both also available from ROM Manager.
If you click the link on the Virtuous thread, or download using ROM Manager, the latest versions (1.0.2) is the only one available. G2 or Desire Z doesn't matter.
If you are asking which kernel, that's your choice. The ROM comes with the "Virtuous Standard" kernel which is overclocked to 1 GHz. If you want more OC options, up to 1.5 GHz, pick the Advanced Kernel. But keep in mind you will likely have to tinker with SetCPU screen-off profiles, otherwise you will have screen wake issues with the Advanced Kernel. If you want the kernel that "just works" stick with Standard.
awesome replies guys. very insightful.
ive chosen to install virtuous with the standard kernel
heisdnice I'm in the same boat as you. I'm running the xboarder56 ROM right now as it seems to be running stable...mius the GPS not working its ok.
I tried the latest Virtuous ROM and found it to be pretty good but I noticed that I got a FC on Handscent SMS and WiFi calling (even with the latter being removed via ROM Manager patch). I also found that a couple of Storm8 games that were fine on other ROMs (incl. the stock) had some imaging issues.
Trying to go through a bunch to see which ones are good and most suitable for me.

Which ROM do you recommend?

I'm thinking about changeing ROM in my Desire, Right now I'm using MildWild 5 (from here) but it's missing few small things I need.
Which of GB ROMs do you recommend? Why GB? Because I would like to have Camera fully working (only one 4.0 ROM has it running, but that ROM is only in English and Chinese).
Looking for something stable, this is the most important for me, someting that doesn't have problems with battery and of course has camera fully working. Also it need to have more then just english and chinese language
Would be nice if it was something based on Sense ROM's with few adjustments. Have tried already LeeDroid and I'm thinking about using it once again, but wanted to know if there is something else worth to try.
Thank you

PS: to have a sense feel, use supernova rom
there is cool ex sense ics themed rom or you could try mildwild for a stock ,dont go for any sense rom base on 3.5 or higher found they lag like hell
any rom based on sense 3.0 and below works well .

If u want stable , u should go to stock rom
Mildwild is still my favourite since its fast and stable.
I tried ChromiumRom for its look but found it to be a little laggy for my daily usage http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2205516
MIUI-XJ was my first rom and really liked for its ability to switch up themes easily in 2.3.7 and its "iPhone-esque" feel but soon realised it was a bit heavy on resources and thus battery suffered.
Desire is getting old now so i would say go for the latest 'stable and fast' blend of ROM.
Presumably you are needing video camera to work fully, not just the still camera?
CarbonRom KitKat 4.4.3 and AOSB KitKat 4.4.4 - these are my favorites.
4.4.4 Beanstalk RC6
It's faster than GB!
Do you want stability and absolutely everything working? Then go for any (aosp preferably) gingerbread rom.
Do you want bleeding edge of development? Then go for the latest evervolv nightly based on 4.4.4 android. But you should forget video recording and expect some rough edges and no guarantees on stability.
It is a matter of choice after all.

There are quite a few Stable, GB Roms with a working camera, I am using Nlooooo's stock sense GB Rom with everything fully working (inc 720p Video Recording), its rooted, and has a2sd support.
Here is the link if youre interested, in my opinion its the best ROM ive ever had on the Desire. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1523325

[Q] Problems with ROM Flashing

Hello, everyone.
So I've stumbled upon a little problem that I don't know how to fix. My phone only can run either my Stock ROM or CyanogenMod ROM, I've tried flashing many many other ROMS but CyanogenMod is the only one I can get to work. About the rest of them they don't boot up, they get stuck on the boot screen and that's it.
And I'm rocking the HTC Incredible S ( VIVO) at the moment running CyanogenMod 10.1 Unofficial. As I wanted to try out some Sense based ROMS, with higher power optimization, maybe faster charging and no bloatware, because I enjoyed Sense just that my Stock Sense got a bit laggy so I decided to change it.
These are one of the main ROMS I tried to flash on my device I use Clockwork Recovery to do this, I don't know maybe some need specificly the EXT4:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2106654 - Stock ICS Sense 4.1 ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2240594 - SVHD ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1088498 - Android Revolution HD
I hope someone will be able to help me out.
Good Day to everyone.
