Which ROM do you recommend? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm thinking about changeing ROM in my Desire, Right now I'm using MildWild 5 (from here) but it's missing few small things I need.
Which of GB ROMs do you recommend? Why GB? Because I would like to have Camera fully working (only one 4.0 ROM has it running, but that ROM is only in English and Chinese).
Looking for something stable, this is the most important for me, someting that doesn't have problems with battery and of course has camera fully working. Also it need to have more then just english and chinese language
Would be nice if it was something based on Sense ROM's with few adjustments. Have tried already LeeDroid and I'm thinking about using it once again, but wanted to know if there is something else worth to try.
Thank you

PS: to have a sense feel, use supernova rom

there is cool ex sense ics themed rom or you could try mildwild for a stock ,dont go for any sense rom base on 3.5 or higher found they lag like hell
any rom based on sense 3.0 and below works well .

If u want stable , u should go to stock rom

Mildwild is still my favourite since its fast and stable.
I tried ChromiumRom for its look but found it to be a little laggy for my daily usage http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2205516
MIUI-XJ was my first rom and really liked for its ability to switch up themes easily in 2.3.7 and its "iPhone-esque" feel but soon realised it was a bit heavy on resources and thus battery suffered.
Desire is getting old now so i would say go for the latest 'stable and fast' blend of ROM.

Presumably you are needing video camera to work fully, not just the still camera?

CarbonRom KitKat 4.4.3 and AOSB KitKat 4.4.4 - these are my favorites.

4.4.4 Beanstalk RC6
It's faster than GB!

Do you want stability and absolutely everything working? Then go for any (aosp preferably) gingerbread rom.
Do you want bleeding edge of development? Then go for the latest evervolv nightly based on 4.4.4 android. But you should forget video recording and expect some rough edges and no guarantees on stability.
It is a matter of choice after all.

There are quite a few Stable, GB Roms with a working camera, I am using Nlooooo's stock sense GB Rom with everything fully working (inc 720p Video Recording), its rooted, and has a2sd support.
Here is the link if youre interested, in my opinion its the best ROM ive ever had on the Desire. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1523325

What rom do you use at the moment and why?

We have got many good developers here working on different ROMS.
I just would like to know what ROM are you all using at the moment and why.
I used most of the time Sense rom from Leedroid. I love his boot image and the fact it is sense rom. I tried Sense HD and I like it, but until the camera works is no good for me for day to day use. Last couple of days I use MIUI and it is really different but nice (like iphone OS but on better device)
I've used Defrost, Opendesire, Villainrom, SupervillainHD and Oxygen. Like the ASOP roms the best, as they are the fastest, allow me to choose the addons more (not 3 or more programs for one task, if i don't want to use Sense apps), and are more versatily (at least, appear to me to be so).
Moved to general as this is in no way pertaining to ROM development.
fair enough. I just tought the poll might help people to choose a rom to use/try.
I am using pinky desire classsic at the moment .
CM 6.1 RC - cause simply I hate to update alot. I'm considering it the latest satisfying my needs!
using pays sense rom
tried auraxtsense rom, but reverted back to pays
it has the best dialer i have seen in a rom.
would like to try sense HD, but wont until they fix the camera

What does Stock mean if you've got Sense?? Sense is stock on the Desire...

By sense rom he probably mean roms like leedroid etc.
On that assumption I voted stock as I'm running the stock 2.29.405.2 WWE ROM
Why? As it does all I need it to
OpenDesire
I went from stock ROM to OpenDesire 4.0.36. I do not miss Sense at all and BT keyboard now works (why, HTC, oh why?). The only thing I miss from Sense is the weather widget.
Too bad OpenDesire will not be updated any longer as from the final 4.1 version. I hope it gets Gingerbread (2.3) in the final build.
Leedroid, because it has apps2sd by default and is pretty clean and has some other nice little touches (but still pretty close to stock) like a transparent notification drawer
I tried all rom types, but in the end I return to Sense. People who say AOSP or Cyanogen are faster have clearly never used a sense rom. It's at least on par and scrolling is smoother.

yes that's exactly what I mean
Teppic74's Rom and tweaks: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773997
With the GPU and SD card patched kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819601
And a theme I made using UOT kitchen.
I like sense, and I wanted something relatively close to stock but with A2SD and a few other bits and pieces.

Taking the plunge!

Think i am ready to take the plunge to root my desire and also install a custom ROM. Just have a few queries that need some clarification and suggestions.
1. My radio version is 5.09.05.30_2 do i need to update this when when installing a custom ROM
2. Suggestions on Sense custom ROMs that have fast kernels with low battery drain. I have read a lot about Cyanogen ROMs which seems quite popular but its a non Sense ROM and would appreciate one with Sense. Kinda Like it.
Thanks in anticipation of the goodies!!
1. See what radio the ROM developer suggests and use that
2. I'd go all out and use the RCMixHD ROM - easily the best Sense-based ROM available and it's based on the Desire HD ROM...but that's just my opinion (wait for the LeeDroid brigade to chime in!!)
I'm far from an expert but i just flashed the latest radio onto my phone and went for LeeDroid 2.2f, which i've been running for a week or two, seems pretty stable so far. I was planning on trying a few ROMs before i get too settled into one.
which radio would that be?
For latest radio, see my signature. But as said, it's best to use the one recommended in the ROM thread if in doubt
LeeDroid seems to be quite appealing at the moment. Any known bugs for 2.2f
Don't know, not a fan of LeeDroid - don't like the custom wallpapers and apps that are used. Prefer mine to look as stock as possible
Which ROMs look as stock as possible?
Teppic's is basically stock with root access and optional extras
I haven't found any bugs at all yet, my current radio is 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27 which definately works fine with LeeDroid 2.2f, well it does on my Desire at least !
Any links to where i could get that Teppic's and is it stable with improved speed and low battery drain? Sorry am asking too many questions
Go look for it in ROM development - it's not that hard to do
What's LeeDroid like on battery?

VillianRom and PinkyDesire are both excellent choices.
LeeDroid Brigade here...... I have tried every ROM possible and the latest LeeDroid offering ,2.2f, is by far the most stable bug free ROM I have ever used. The RCMixHD ROM is very good, if you can live without the camera for the time being.

[Q] THE GREAT ROM DEBATE or THE QUEST FOR THE PERFECT ROM!

I have been going back and forth with roms and wondering some things myself.
I like the speed and system memory available with the A2SD of the AOSP roms (oxygen) but need my video camera so the gingerbread thing is out till they sort that out and Im finding I like the sense roms.
Anyone have any experience with the stock roms? Are there any sense stock roms with very little of the garbage apps that come with most sense roms but still have A2SD? I guess Im looking for the best of both worlds here.....
There are froyo AOSP roms so no sense and a working video recorder, you can also strip Sense roms from the stuff you don't want, just make sure it's not a critical part.
But if you want a Sense rom I suggest you use Leedroid with A2SD and don't worry about space or removing sense apps.
Leedroid is my 1st rom, then i tried defrost, open desire, gingervillain, Oxygen, they all give me bugs, as for other sense rom, i've tried AuraTSense & Modaco, not tat perfect for me, as for Sense HD rom, don't try it, they're not mend for Desire... lastly i go back to Leedroid, now it's 23d already, and it's smooth, bug free... i just hope tat i know how to take out those stuff that i don't need inside... I really wanted to have a smooth non sense rom, but non of them is better than leedroid...

I use Baadnewz' HD rom it's pretty fast and stable (as fast and stable as leedroid's in fact) and you get the sense 2.0 goodness too. I was on Leedroid for a long time but wouldn't go back to old sense anymore.
thx for the info, i think i'm gonna give it a try...
hmmmm
I'm running Leedroid right now and start up is quite laggy and my phone is not very responsive. I just s-offed my phone so I'll see what I can do with it now.
I tried Baadnewz but can't remember why I didnt like it. lol
The HD roms seem to give me bugs.
I have been debating making my own rom, a sort of Frankenstein rom, with bits and pieces of all the things I like from other roms. The main problem I'm having is finding a tutorial on making roms. I have searched but found nothing...

i prefer the hd roms also , had no problems with them.

I get lags if I don't do a full wipe or use titanium backup to restore old system settings with any rom. Once you are on a certain rom you can usually just upgrade without a full wipe.
Tried Baadnewz' HD rom, not that responsive... sometimes need press 2-3 times to screen on... going back to leedroid... ><

To take out the unnecessary stuff search LeeDroid's minisite - there is a great tutorial, how to remove stuff you don't need.
Also you can delete the not needed .apks from the .zip file on your PC and after that you can flash it.
Also tried a few ROMs (including gingervillain, Oxygen), but using LD, cause it is the best for me.

I deleted 2 apps (cifsManager & DefaultclearHome) and it was working without any problems so far.
I don't know about other .apks, but in that case i recommend the tutorial shown here:
http://leedroid.protogenlabs.com/wiki/guidelines-for-safe-removal-of-included-apps-apks
However, there is written, than you can just simply delete from the .zip file.
Do we have a poll /or can we have one for best ROM available for Desire ? .
Just wanted to know whats the most used ROM on the forum .

[Q] Most Stable ROM

Hello ppl, i recently got a desire for uhh, 100 bucks
and now i see that this device has lot of ROMs.
(i'm now doing the roots and installing the recoverys)
I was looking for something simple, because this is for my brother and he is not such a geek, i just want a rom that does not have freezes or reboots, that works smooth
Does the ICS ROMs already stable or i should go for GB?
thanks ppl!
CM7 no questions asked.
Make sure to S-OFF and flash cm7 hboot to get the most space for apps
used CM7 a long time, but the ROM i used the longest is InsertCoin v1.1.4 on Stock HBOOT.
It's fast and stable, just had one issue in over 6 months which could be resolved by flashing a kernel without two way call recording.
Cyanogenmod, or Oxygen which is more barebones. Or stock Sense ROMs should be stable also. Personally I dont care for sense that much.
ICS is not stable, there are still some issues that need to be ironed out.
Stick to GB, I would recommend any of Roalex's roms, they're fantastic, even his ICS rom, which from my experience is the Best ICS rom on the desire at the moment.
Thank you everybody, now i gonna try your suggestions!
I really also liked Roalex's updated Oxygen, but it has one problem, if you move an app to sd, you can't move it back to the phone. This is using the standard apps to sd function of android. Roalexe's Cyanogen based GB rom has this issue also. I also had to restore apn's from a backup to get 3g working on the CM version. So they might not be as rock solid as original cm or oxygen.
I'm used MildWild V-4.0 Based on Oxygen 2.3.2 for about 2 to 3 months, I didnt faced single issue. This was my best ROM I have used..
Hi, I would tend to say Mildwild based on oxygen too. It is very stable. Mildwild CM is also nice but last version has bugs.
First, I would say, that it's ur choice.
Everybody says Oxygen is quiet good, but in my opinion, it's very ugly.
So CM will be nice, too. But u have to choose by ur self which rom is better 4 u.
The Gingerbread (Android 2.3.7) version of MIUI_Au (v. 2.1.13, which you will have to google as newcomers are stupidly barred from posting outside links) is also very stable, fast, and quite aesthetically pleasing, so you might want to give it a go.
Dont want to seem like a broken record but this is my post on another thread.
I know it's still in beta but Im using ICS .10.1 by Sandvold, very stable, no issues with the mass of apps I have installed and battery is great, better than stock I find. The ROM is fast and responsive again better than stock. Tried a few GB roms and sense roms but this is the best so far.
For various reasons I have gone back to these ICS roms, battery life, BSOD's and FC's. I've tried Runny roms and MUIU though still have serious issues on my phone. Running the current rom I could pretty much not update or change it and would be happy with it. Very stable, smooth and no BSOD's since latest update. Worth considering IMO.
Insetcoin is great, I'm on that ROM very long and its smooth and stable.
People claiming ICS ROM's at the moment are the most stable are seriously brain damaged..
3 biggest issues with all of them = broken video recording, no usb tethering, sluggish (unless you use only few apps and dont need a dalvik 2 ext scripts)
Also the "Full HWA" is still a hack.
I'm not saying they are bad, but they cannot be considered as "most stable" by any means.
The most stable ROM's by now, are the AOSP ones based on Gingerbread. (CM7, Oxygen etc.)
Ok maybe they are not "eye candy" out of the box, but if you spend some time to theme it then you'll be surprised, and you actually dont need Sense or ICS ROM's to achieve it.
Some examples. http://mycolorscreen.com/popular/
Hi,
I've been using mildwild V4.0 oxygen since it is out and I'm very pleased with it.
It is stable and fast. Sometimes I miss some sense functions like rolling numbers when setting the alarm clock. But when i use a sense rom, i realize how fast mildwild really is
The best is to try some Roms. Everybody has his own preferences.
I suggest mildwild v4.0 oxygen too
Runnymede AIO V6.0.4.3 Special Edition or MildWild CM 4.8
If you want ICS, BCM 3.7U0 but of course it's not the most stable ROM but I'm telling you this ROM is great although it says your sd-ext must be less than 1.5Gb but I'm using it with 2Gb sd-ext 4 on a class 4, 16 Gb sd card with no problem at all. Trust me on these if not the most stable only because of the usb tethering and 15fps video recording, this ROM is the most performance sucker I ever had my benchmark on quadrant advance is 1708 with this ROM and I didn't even overclock my cpu but on a stable gb ROM my benchmark was 998 with the same app.let me point out that I have 132 apps installed on the ICS but I only had 87 apps on the gb ROM.
And with mods I have made it too look like this:
I might be a new XDA-Developers user but it doesn't mean that I'm new to using its stuff, it only means that I have been dumb enough to just use and never comment!!
Hope I could Help

[Q] need help with choosing rom for Desire

Hi there,
I know, some of you will tell "search", but I am reading, reading, reading... and I can't find rom which according to comments:
- is stable and has no bugs (battery drain, videocam etc.)
- is possibly fastest and smoothest
- is light (no unneeded features)
- is able to install any app on SD card
- JB would be pleasent, but ICS and GB are also acceptable, with Sense or not, doesnt matter.
Can you recommend something? I just want to install it and forget that I have rooted phone.
Thankyou in advance and greetings.

Jb and ics roms will have bugs they are still a working progress, if you want something stable stick with gb I would recommend mildwild its fast stable

Check out the rom I'm using. It's very fast and stable.
Cronmode 2.xx (current 2.1) for Desire, ICS (int2ext, swap, light trebuchet launcher, few apps, working camcorder, themes, 3g, wifi tether, usb tether etc.), my daily rom since november 2012. You can also give a try to marius.a ICS rom, is still in progress but dev is improving it at the moment, u can even ask him
Thanks a lot, I will try it. Is there also some alternative with Sense (any version)?
There is an ICS with Sense 4.1 - CoolDroid Revolution v 9.0 but I cannot recommend is for daily using. In my opinion is very unstable, and most of functions are partialy either not working When you want a sense 3.5 or lower you gonna have to use GB roms like that one from RSK team.
Cool Droid V3. Fastest Sense ROM i ever tried.
