Anyone know how to install Google talk app? - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Running into the same problem, are there any other apps that use Gtalk and possibly install?

Gtalk always needs to be moved into the system/app folder using a file program such as Root Explorer, then the permissions need to be set, then you reboot and voila.
In this case, there might be an even easier way: have you checked the market to see if Talk 1.3 installer is availablle for your device? If so, download that and let it do the work
Hope this helps ya.
Note: both methods require root.

oh damn, ok. are you also running rooted stock? maybe Gtalk isn't compatible with the stock framework and you'd have to run a custom ROM, like CM7?

Yep, rooted stock. Got Google Currents and Voice installed, but Talk is being stubborn.

Hmm. I used the Kindle fire Utility to install google apps. It installed almost everything under the sun except google talk. I couldn't find an apk so I grabbed the one from my droid3. I literally dumped it in the download folder, went to it with ES file explorer and hit install and it worked perfectly. I didnt have to move a thing. That was using titanium backup to make the apk on my phone. I take it you didnt install your other google apps with KFU?

Did mine manually, and I can't really remember why, though I did use KFU to install TWRP.

Used the Titanium Backup method, and it worked like a charm. Great success!

Actually, a little weirdness here, it doesn't show up on the app drawer at all. Have to launch using Titanium... surely there's aan easy fix.

On your phone, make a backup of Talk using Titanium Backup. Long press the backup and upload to Dropbox. DL the backup with your KF, and "restore" it using Titanium Backup on your KF.

I made a backup with Tb on my phone. Then I plugged it in to my computer and searched the drive for .apk files. Found the Google talk apk and copied it to my computer then the fire. Browsed to it on the fire with es file explorer and tapped it. Prompted me to install and that was it.

Correct, TB needs root to operate. If you want the best way to root, completely stock with root, and keeping your own kernel,

Got it to work. The Hulu.apk did not install. If you have super user installed and Titanium working properly then do the following:
Extract the 3 files in Hulu Backup-1.zip to the location of your Titanum back ups and then restore.
I had to use the task killer to kill titanium, it was stuck in the restoring screen. Hulu is working like a charm!

Yup, just extract the files into the titanium backup folder in your SD and search for it inside Titanium.
I got it launch the app after using the restore method. However, when I try to watch anything it says buffering and then after a bit it says that I am having network issues eventhough I am connected via my wifi and browsing hulu to find the show I want to watch. Any ideas how to fix this?

The restore method worked perfect for me also. The buffering is caused by the ad block on your phone. You will need to delete the hosts file in system/etc.

Hmm fresh wipe of what, data/cache/dalvik? Even if you had adfree before, blocking ads, it would still be blocked without having the app because the host file is in /system so anything short of factory reset/Odin wouldn't change this.
Download again adfree and press revert.

Update broke Market and all of my third-party keyboards (pretty much everything I had to manually put in system/app. Root, however, was not broken.
For good measure, though, I reverted to stock and re-rooted. Re-installed Market and G-Apps framework. No cigar. Market and keyboards are still broken and FC on launch.

Did you use Titanium Backup to convert Market and Keyboards to system apps? Alternatively move them (from /data) into /system/app and set the appropriate permissions/ownership.

I uninstalled and removed vending.apk from system/apps, I reinstalled it, ensured permissions were solid. Clear data/cache just to be safe.

Flashing gapps

Unrelated to the epic...I rooted my sisters phone while she was visiting over the weekend. She had to leave before I could flash CM7 on her phone so I'm doing it remotely right now. Her phone is old and has no support really so I'm asking here. When I try to boot in CWM it won't. I have figured out why but cannot fix it remotely. Is there a way to get gapps installed without going through CWM? Like download the .apk files individually and install them so she can at least log into her google account until I can fix it?

I think maybe you could download the gapps zip, extract it somewhere, and copy the apk files into the /system/app folder on the root of the phone. You'd have to use a file manager on the phone with root access, I recommend ES File Explorer, if you use this one then you have to tic a couple settings: Up to Root, Root Explorer, and Mount File System. After you copy the files into the system/app folder (ON THE PHONE, NOT ON THE SD CARD) then reboot the phone and should hypothetically be working.
Without having gapps, she will need to install amazon app store to get es file explorer, unless you want to track down the apk for it for her. As long as her browser is working she should be able to download the amazon app store without any trouble.
Thank you! Will give it a try.

Hyperdrive rom Google search crash

I just installed Hyperdrive rls14 and Google search crashes every time I try to use it.
I've rebooted, reflashed the rom, clean flash, wiped everything, removed Google search with Rom toolbox and reinstalled it fresh from the Play store. Nothing seems to work.
I love the rom, and want to keep it. I use Googe now a ton though, so I'm stuck here.
Google search is a system app so if you use rom toolbox it will not delete it from the system. Using a root explorer go into system apps and delete it. Reboot, this reboot is very important to do. After rebooting the phone go back in using root explorer make sure it's still gone. Then redownload from play store and install.

I just noticed that S Voice doesn't work, either. Since Google search uses voice recognition also, could it be an issue with that?
Did you check the MD5 Checksum of the Rom before Flashing ? I would suggest downloading the Rom again. Check the MD5 Checksum to verify a good DL. The Full Wipe, and Flash.

You may be missing chaton or chaton v. I installed this app from the market, S-Voice calls on this app to work. You still needs to follow all the steps listed above to remove google now with a root browser. I used rom toolbox pro and that did the trick for me.

App extractor

I am looking for an app that will let me pull a system apk from a backup of my system using cwm. I have tried nandroid manager, app extractor, and a couple others that I don't remember the name of and none of them are working for me. Nandroid manager says that it successfully restored the app I wanted, but it didn't really do it. I have also tried titanium back up, and it's not restoring the app either. It's a system app if that makes any difference.

Ok so flashed back to my stock rooted backup and used the app Appwererabbit and it allowed me to make a copy of the apk that I wanted. The I flashed back to my current rom and tried installing it, but the install failed. I'm guessing because it was a system app. So I placed it in the system app folder and still nothing. Is there a way to install this without using a pc and pushing it with ADB?
