Update broke Market and all of my third-party keyboards (pretty much everything I had to manually put in system/app. Root, however, was not broken.
For good measure, though, I reverted to stock and re-rooted. Re-installed Market and G-Apps framework. No cigar. Market and keyboards are still broken and FC on launch.

Did you use Titanium Backup to convert Market and Keyboards to system apps? Alternatively move them (from /data) into /system/app and set the appropriate permissions/ownership.

Since the update, I'm getting constant force closes from market when installing apps/opening market. Worked before. Anyone got an idea?
I uninstalled and removed vending.apk from system/apps, I reinstalled it, ensured permissions were solid. Clear data/cache just to be safe.
SuperOneClick/ZergRush confirmed working over here as a re-root method. Market and G-apps confirmed working after re-install, fixing permissions (via root explorer for me) and restarting.

I'm sure you guys have noticed that Hulu claims our platform isn't supported. I was wondering if anyone has tried this technique yet to get Hulu to believe the flash player is installed on a windows box? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794512
I haven't tried it yet, but I know by default I cannot uninstall the Flash 10.1 build that was included on the phone in order to install the fixed apk...
I pretty much decided that since HSPA+ doesn't cover the WHOLE of my city yet then I won't bother with data heavy sites like Hulu on my phone for now.

hence the need for a flash build that reports itself as a desktop. The browser will report as a desktop if you do the debug trick, but flash itself is still reporting itself as an android phone.
The link I posted at the top had an apk with a custom build of flash that reports as a desktop, but I can't get it to install on my phone.

what i tried. used temp root, then got root in adb shell. rm system flash player, then cp new flash to system/app. installed hulu.apk, still same not supported error. also did the about:debug, same prob
whats wierd is after i rm flash, it still shows under manage apps. can it be installed somewhere else as well?
also how could i rm the cache of the stock player?

sure. its a little tricky, lol. read entire first post here, temp root, its been updated: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797042
as you read you only do stage 1 once (not needed if you have done temp root already)
then before you do stage 2, open titanium, it will say it doesnt have root, thats ok, exit out of it.
complete stage 2, do NOT exit term (sometimes it works if you do, most time not)
long press home to bring up recent apps. click on titanum. most likely will say no root, thats ok.
hit menu and reload titanum, boom superuser request. grant it and your in there for this session!
good luck, have fun, hope this helps...
Thanks man I'll try when I get home.

Are Twitter apps the "only" apks that wont install? If so, that is indeed perplexing. If you have the time, flash a different rom and see if you're able to install.
Try moving the app to /system/app then use root explorer to enable all permissions, then install.

if you have Root Explorer (or Android Commander on your PC), navigate to /data/data and delete the com.twitter.android folder, and then try installing Twitter again. I had the same problem on CM7 and this fixed it (without having to completely wipe the phone)

Got it to work. The Hulu.apk did not install. If you have super user installed and Titanium working properly then do the following:
Extract the 3 files in Hulu Backup-1.zip to the location of your Titanum back ups and then restore.
I had to use the task killer to kill titanium, it was stuck in the restoring screen. Hulu is working like a charm!

Yup, just extract the files into the titanium backup folder in your SD and search for it inside Titanium.
I got it launch the app after using the restore method. However, when I try to watch anything it says buffering and then after a bit it says that I am having network issues eventhough I am connected via my wifi and browsing hulu to find the show I want to watch. Any ideas how to fix this?

The restore method worked perfect for me also. The buffering is caused by the ad block on your phone. You will need to delete the hosts file in system/etc.

Hmm fresh wipe of what, data/cache/dalvik? Even if you had adfree before, blocking ads, it would still be blocked without having the app because the host file is in /system so anything short of factory reset/Odin wouldn't change this.

Running into the same problem, are there any other apps that use Gtalk and possibly install?
Gtalk always needs to be moved into the system/app folder using a file program such as Root Explorer, then the permissions need to be set, then you reboot and voila.
In this case, there might be an even easier way: have you checked the market to see if Talk 1.3 installer is availablle for your device? If so, download that and let it do the work
Hope this helps ya.
Note: both methods require root.

Hmm. I used the Kindle fire Utility to install google apps. It installed almost everything under the sun except google talk. I couldn't find an apk so I grabbed the one from my droid3. You cannot run Google Play without root permissions because it will only run as a system app with the proper permissions which you need root to modify. As far as warranty goes, you can restore a rooted kindle fire to stock and remove any proof of the fact that it has ever been rooted by following one of the guides to return to stock.
I used to have my KF completely bricked after running ICS and different ROMs on it and so forth and recently sent it back to Amazon for ghosting. After having restored it to stock and doing a factory reset, it couldn't be differentiated from one that was brand new out of the box.

No, there is not a way to do it without root permission. You have to have root access to move to system/apk and change permissions.

I appreciate your drive and willingness to try but the reason it won't work is because even if you were to find a way to get the app to run without being run from system/app you will still not be able to use it to install apps. The way it was designed to integrate with android is to contact google's servers and directly install the app to your device using its own permissions derived from it being a system app. If it doesn't have those permissions it won't know what to do and will crash. It cannot just download the app to a folder like 1mobile does. I understand that you want to use google play without rooting, I tried to do it too before I eventually gave in and rooted, but trust me you will be much happier with the device when you have root permissions. If you decide to stay with the stock amazon version of android I would recommend trying modaco's rooted stock ROM which comes with google play already installed, it will not only save you the trouble of having to attempt to install the app yourself (which is actually more of a hassle than you would think) but it also has better stability than stock does and you don't have to worry about amazon upgrading you overnight without your permission and you losing root.
