[mod] gps fix test

Hello, I've tested different settings for GPS and I got this working the most
can somebody do the tests and tell me if they got better fix ?
First : type *#*#1472365#*#* on dialer app
then you got this screen :

I got fix in 2/3 seconds on my device.
Tell me if it worked for you ... I'll make driving tests this afternoon

You joking? Enabling sky hook has been posted about a billion times already.
And until you've done a driving session your results mean nothing.
I can't get a lock if I change the other settings you've posted.

No it makes no difference for me. I get a fast fix (I did before this anyway), but it's useless when driving. Drops the signal every few seconds (still JF3, but will test JG5 now that JF3 is finally out).
What improved mine a little bit, is to delete secgps.conf from /data/gps . It's the file that gets created when you fiddle around with those settings in the test mode. Samsung messed something up with their default values I think. If you switch your phone off and on, the file gets recreated with the default values, which are different now, and make more sense...

I know that skyhook fix has been already fixed the major fix is SUPL/CP changes
I'll do a drive test this afternoon

well ... I'm back from a short driving test ... except for the first 100m everything is fine ... don't get any signal loss or wrong street ...

seems exactly the same to me b ut my gps has alweasy been spot on on newer firmwares anyway

For me with skyhook on only it also works perfectly, no problems at all when driving. What i did notice is that when you cannot get a fix, closing all applications with a task killer works. After killing i get a fix right away again.

what if the problem with the GPS is hardware based? Do you think samsung will admit it and recall all the sets to be repaired? I dont think so....

Well, how about contacting official samsung support. I open'd a ticket myself on saturday, and so should do everyone. The only way to get this problem solved is to put pressure on samsung. It's important to contact some famous websites and tell them, that there are some issues about the galaxy s and than lets see. It worked with the iPhone so it will work with i9000.

How did you contact them? I sent a web support request, submitted images and results from GPS Test, and a log from the GPS, and provided links to a video showing the failures. I also gave my work details since I'm an engineer associated with a number of their products..... 3 days later they responded with instructions on how to run Google Maps.
I also pinged engadget to see if I could get them to pick up the story, but we'd need more people doing that to get them to take notice.

i contacted support hotline, after serveral calls and waiting for 4 days, they made up an engineering ticket to get me the hw specs of the gps module(there are no gps problems known in germany!). They wanted me to sent back my phone to a service dealer, but i said, that that probably won't solve the problem.
i also informed heise.de (largest german it portal) about the gps problems. So lets wait whats coming up next.

yes, maybe it's hw related and it will never work with the galaxy s. thats no problem for me. i'll change it and buy a different phone. but i want a clear statement from samsung. thats what i can expect for 450€.
gps navigation is a warranted characteristics on their website and that gives you powerfull righty in germany.

I honestly dont belive there is a hardware problem as mine locks real quick,is as accuate as any garmin or navman ive used and hasnt once lost lock in the car,and ive been out in very rainy weather.I can only vouch fpr co pilot as its the only gps program ive got but its lock is flawless.

please be so kind let me know, whats the max number of satellites your sgs has in sight, to how many it can connect and whats the max snr using GPS Test.
standing on a bridge with no trees or buildings around, my sgs is only capable of tracking 8 satellites, max locks was 6 yesterday (but only for a second, normaly 5 locks) and the max snr is below 40. using xxjf3 and any of the settings mentioned here or elsewhere.
nearly every other GPS module has >12 channels and can lock more satellites the same time with a higher snr than sgs. afaik there is no *navigation* system with less then 12 channels.

Just like Internet Sharing was enabled through a hack, is it possible to add these new extra settings to the older Samsung phones?
The new settings are auto-display intensity, key vibration feedback and echo cancellation.

We would need someone to look at the registry settings that enable the extras but I would guess that it should be possible.

Couldn't find anything obvious in the registry. There are some keys in HKCU/Control Panel/Sounds that sounded interesting, like "StartButton", but changing it and rebooting seems to have no effect.
EDIT: There may still be something to it, or to values related to it. I just didn't find anything.

Its not registry related. Its driver related snapdragon s1 drivers are not compatible with s2 drivers

wpcentral - Extra Settings setting updated
It is also apparently being treated as an application instead of a firmware feature in that it was updated this morning via the Marketplace.
Along with the Extra Settings, the High Fidelity Positioning settings were updated as well. So far the updates have only come through on the Samsung Focus S and not the Focus Flash. As to what the update covered, no clue. With the settings not changing it was likely a bug fix or a test to see if it could be done.
We have heard one report that the Focus S's screen seems brighter when set to automatic and I have to admit mine does look a little better after updating. More than likely it's coincidence in that our eyes are getting used to the screen.

Interesting. Would it be possible to extract it somehow?

I found this xap in the windows directory. This is the version that shipped on my Focus S, I have not received the update yet.

Okay just deployed them to my Omnia 7 and this is what has happened..
So only two of the options; I will try a restart and see if the key vibrations turn off or not...
EDIT: I turned both toggles off before restart but white intensity reverted back to 'on' and despite the key feedback option being 'off' it still gives feedback. Most probably a case of what tessut said earlier in the thread regarding drivers?

If you go to Brightness settings and switch on auto-adjust, the white intensity settings work - but like you say, after a restart they don't apply.
Whereas the key vibration setting just isn't working at all..

Have you been prompted to update the XAP yet? Anyone with a Focus S care to share the values of the registry keys under: [HKLM\System\Platform\DeviceTargetingInfo]

Just updated. Here are the values.

Ok well I changed many of my values on my 1st gen Focus to match, we shall see what happens. On a side note you have two values that don't exist normally on 1st gen devices: FTAHWVersion and FTASWVersion. So what does FTA stand for?

Not sure what FTA stands for but they both represent the hardware and software versions..
I've also changed the values on my Omnia 7 - fingers crossed for the update!

Hmm well I don't think the update would have replaced the xap file that comes cooked in the windows directory, so how would I be able to get the files from application storage or where ever it may be? Also, even with the update auto display intensity settings do not stick.

Their chipset was FM capable but somehow Microsoft decided just right now to enable it. It's really cool though, having FM out of the blue

Im installing an update. Notification came few hours ago.

This update did bring only one thing, the FM Radio but as i dont use radio no help for me but no fix for critical problem and features. Still cant make a diecent playlist muste use rediculouse steps to make a siple playlist!!! Music getting lost from Music Hub no fix in this part!!! The other storage problem is still there cant delet things manualy so my phone space is geting lower and lower so i give it a month and i will need to restore... Not installing any apps just by using the phone its getting biger...
MS Is starting to be a huge disapointment to me and im thinking of returning to Android... Or if it will get done i will go for Ubuntu Edge

It has a small Temporary Files app in the Make More Space main application.It does clean some space but it`s nothing compared to Shrink Storage.

got the update biggest change was wifi calling not sure what else

Just got mine used and updated it today. Saw the wifi calling but didn't read the rest, I did notice mine was on the May security update and now it's on the July update so could be that.

They also removed all traces of the Oculus software that was originally on our devices. So no chance of getting VR support for these devices in the future then

wifi calling now available (eg wifi-only calling, BUT no wifi-only messaging so thats kinda stupid...)
activity zone 'compass mode' with 'map mode' (which never worked, only said 'google services is updating' removed
advanced messaging (separate balloon per text/attachment, and 'xxx is typing' is new)

Great news! The recent update 8/11/2016 fixed the dpi error we were getting. I was able to successfully change my dpi using the display scaling app. View attachment 3839483

I checked on the official site (which just recently added the phone on the site, as I've been checking often), and they don't have any info on updates or anything posted yet.
So far I noticed: WiFi Calling and Messaging, Message Scheduling (Don't think I noticed this before), Security Update, Removal of Oculus (the setup for the full Oculus Software), Advanced Messaging for AT&T customers, and Text Counter.
If we see anything else, I'll add to this, or we can hope for release notes/ change log

I have the s7 active and the battery life is OK not great but ok and the update installed WiFi calling and text messaging works on WiFi

The only times I've ever had good battery life on any Android device were and continue to be from custom roms and kernels. No stock rom including stock nexus roms give me good battery life. That being said, my used S7A is actually not too bad for everything stock without root and it had better with such a big battery.

Anyone one having problem with mms video being blurry when sent to another phone. I know it's not the carrier att because my wife has an iPhone 6s and it sends the same mms video perfect. Picking brains not noses

That is likely due to compression in the SMS client you're using. I don't know what AT&T's limitations are on file size for MMS, but I do know third-party SMS apps allow for tweaking of that. I use Textra currently, and can set a max upload/send size in the options. I know other SMS apps have similar functionality, but I doubt the stock one does.

Another update today, looks to be only security fixes for Aug. I'm actually surprised they released it IN Aug and not months down the line. Lol

I live in Korea and not an AT&T carrier user. So, I have never received AT&T's OTA.
I tried to connect my Galaxy S7 Active to Samsung Smart Switch, but Samsung Smart Switch says my phone's firmware is the newest version.
My phone's baseband version is G891AUCU1APE7, and build number is MMB29M.G891AUCU1APE7.
Am I unable to update my phone forever?
I want to update my phone's firmware.

Not receiving notifcations/Receiving them late - Note 10+/Exynos

Hey guys.
I have been using this phone for a number of days, and it seems like ever since I activated a battery saving option which I can't seem to single out, I stopped receiving notification when the phone is locked and/or I'm receiving them with a delay. receiving
I'm also having a problem with things that requires the phone to have an active data/wi-f- connection when locked, like WhatsApp Web or Google photos backup.
There is no data/wi-fi saving or limiting option enabled. I specifically added gmail, whatsapp and other app that I wish to receive lock notifications from to the "Not optimized" list.
I'm attaching my battery settings screenshots for reference.

This issue is old for like 2 years now.

Follow these steps! I found my Zedge app that controls my custom notifications in the 'Sleeping Apps' container. Once I removed the app, all my notifications started working again.

I have Zedge installed but I didn't give it notification access. Your link is wrong :silly:

I had a similar issue with delayed notifications on my S10+ and turning off Adaptive battery helped. You can also try that and pls do post back if it helps. Thanks.

It looks like disabling Adaptive Battery helped a bit, but it is still not perfect. In addition, I don't understand why adding the specific apps to the "Not Optimized" list does not affect anything.

Sorry about that errant link to Fantasy Football.
Here is the link to follow to remove Apps that Adaptive Battery settings put in 'jail' so they won't ever run in the background.
Promise its not Fantasy Football but steps to help fix notifications/slowness

I don't think it's anything to do with adaptive battery.
If you go into the developer menu and down to the bottom there is an option standby apps. Once in there you'll see apps listed, if they're set to ACTIVE they are allowed to do what they like. Even with full battery optimisation set Gmail is always ACTIVE and is still having issues. I think it's actually an issue with the phone going into some kind of standby mode. Sometimes it does and therefore notifications are off and sometimes it doesn't and everything is fine.

I tried everything mentioned here and it seems to work for about one day and then the delay was back (especially in WhatsApp).

If you go into the developer menu and down to the bottom there is an option standby apps. Once in there you'll see apps listed, if they're set to ACTIVE they are allowed to do what they like. Even with full battery optimisation set Gmail is always ACTIVE and is still having issues. I think it's actually an issue with the phone going into some kind of standby mode. Sometimes it does and therefore notifications are off and sometimes it doesn't and everything is fine.

Further to this, it doesn't seem to be an issue when the device is charging so presumably thats keeping something alive.

This thread has been inactive for weeks but I think this problem still exists. A Google search for "lockscreen notification delay" brings up a number of reports from various Samsung, Oneplus and other Android users - but still no single solution.
For a while I did not even think I had the problem because it does not appear unless your phone is inactive for about 10-15 minutes.
The problem appears to have something to do with changes to Optimize Battery Settings not sticking.
I found a workaround but it has to be done everytime the phone is rebooted.
- Under Optimize Battery Usage make sure that Whatsapp,Gmail or whatever notification app is being delayed is NOT Optimized
- Use the ADB command "adb shell dumpsys deviceidle disable". This has to be done from a computer with the phone connected to it. Or if you have root you can run it directly from the phone using Terminal Emulator.
Somebody from the Oneplus forums has also created a Magisk Module that appears to work on Samsung phones. You can find it in post #65 here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/how-to/guide-notification-fix-100-t3865551/page7
Is this the only way to fix this or has somebody found a better way?

At first, when I downloaded, installed, put the accounts, and all pertinent stuff, I observed this problem, no mails and no whatsapps until waking the device, or worst, had to enter the apps, but, I found the above solutions/steps, and, everything is working fine since Sept 13th, no delays, all working fine, even battery life is really good

I've got the issue only when activating moderate power save.
I set none app in the optimise wishlist.

The moderate power save also caused issues with late notifications on my device. I've only turned it on to test it but even after putting back to optimised and/or high mode did not rectify the issue. Somehow, few days later, I've managed to correct it but I've done so many changes that I've no idea how or what fixed it.

I had this issue on my S10 + to particularly with whatsapp! Messages would come in delayed or i just wouldnt get the notification for some reason! I never figured it out unfortunately but thankfully it seems to be ok on my note 10 + which is strange because i literally have this device set up EXACTLY the same as my S10 + in terms of settings etc ! If i remember correctly however, My S10+ didnt have this issue at the beginning!
