Not receiving notifcations/Receiving them late - Note 10+/Exynos - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Questions & Answers

Hey guys.
I have been using this phone for a number of days, and it seems like ever since I activated a battery saving option which I can't seem to single out, I stopped receiving notification when the phone is locked and/or I'm receiving them with a delay. receiving
I'm also having a problem with things that requires the phone to have an active data/wi-f- connection when locked, like WhatsApp Web or Google photos backup.
There is no data/wi-fi saving or limiting option enabled. I specifically added gmail, whatsapp and other app that I wish to receive lock notifications from to the "Not optimized" list.
I'm attaching my battery settings screenshots for reference.

Thanks.

This issue is old for like 2 years now.
Happening in my note 8, 9 and now 10.
Not a single solution that will work.

I'm having the same problem. Never had it before

Follow these steps! I found my Zedge app that controls my custom notifications in the 'Sleeping Apps' container. Once I removed the app, all my notifications started working again.

I have Zedge installed but I didn't give it notification access. Your link is wrong :silly:

I had a similar issue with delayed notifications on my S10+ and turning off Adaptive battery helped. You can also try that and pls do post back if it helps. Thanks.

Having the same issues here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-10+/help/apps-updating-phone-t3962558

It looks like disabling Adaptive Battery helped a bit, but it is still not perfect. In addition, I don't understand why adding the specific apps to the "Not Optimized" list does not affect anything.

Sorry about that errant link to Fantasy Football.
Here is the link to follow to remove Apps that Adaptive Battery settings put in 'jail' so they won't ever run in the background.
Promise its not Fantasy Football but steps to help fix notifications/slowness

I don't think it's anything to do with adaptive battery.
If you go into the developer menu and down to the bottom there is an option standby apps. Once in there you'll see apps listed, if they're set to ACTIVE they are allowed to do what they like. Even with full battery optimisation set Gmail is always ACTIVE and is still having issues. I think it's actually an issue with the phone going into some kind of standby mode. Sometimes it does and therefore notifications are off and sometimes it doesn't and everything is fine.

I tried everything mentioned here and it seems to work for about one day and then the delay was back (especially in WhatsApp).

Further to this, it doesn't seem to be an issue when the device is charging so presumably thats keeping something alive.

This thread has been inactive for weeks but I think this problem still exists. A Google search for "lockscreen notification delay" brings up a number of reports from various Samsung, Oneplus and other Android users - but still no single solution.
For a while I did not even think I had the problem because it does not appear unless your phone is inactive for about 10-15 minutes.
The problem appears to have something to do with changes to Optimize Battery Settings not sticking.
I found a workaround but it has to be done everytime the phone is rebooted.
- Under Optimize Battery Usage make sure that Whatsapp,Gmail or whatever notification app is being delayed is NOT Optimized
- Use the ADB command "adb shell dumpsys deviceidle disable". This has to be done from a computer with the phone connected to it. Or if you have root you can run it directly from the phone using Terminal Emulator.
Somebody from the Oneplus forums has also created a Magisk Module that appears to work on Samsung phones. You can find it in post #65 here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/how-to/guide-notification-fix-100-t3865551/page7
Is this the only way to fix this or has somebody found a better way?

At first, when I downloaded, installed, put the accounts, and all pertinent stuff, I observed this problem, no mails and no whatsapps until waking the device, or worst, had to enter the apps, but, I found the above solutions/steps, and, everything is working fine since Sept 13th, no delays, all working fine, even battery life is really good

I've got the issue only when activating moderate power save.
I set none app in the optimise wishlist.

The moderate power save also caused issues with late notifications on my device. I've only turned it on to test it but even after putting back to optimised and/or high mode did not rectify the issue. Somehow, few days later, I've managed to correct it but I've done so many changes that I've no idea how or what fixed it.

I had this issue on my S10 + to particularly with whatsapp! Messages would come in delayed or i just wouldnt get the notification for some reason! I never figured it out unfortunately but thankfully it seems to be ok on my note 10 + which is strange because i literally have this device set up EXACTLY the same as my S10 + in terms of settings etc ! If i remember correctly however, My S10+ didnt have this issue at the beginning!

Looking for a solution myself to o...I tried some app called 'disable services' from the playstore and disabled carrier IQ service...but I think it is turning itself on again after reboot...however the iqd process memory usage goes down to 2 mb after disabling and running services under android system shows 0, so maybe it does not remove ciq but disables it
Edit - it seems the 2 files related to ciq are under /system/lib - libIQ_client.so, libiq_service.so
If you are rooted, these 2 files can be deleted...but it may cause serious issues ( bootloops, force closes etc) ..I will try deleting these files sometime later, when I have more time to work on the phone

I've read through a bunch of posts on this and agree that the GPS will turn on for no reason. Today was a good example it was on most all of today and I have no idea why.
So I decided to look around and while playing with Disable Service app from the market I found something about Carrier IQ. I can disable it so I did. Since doing so this afternoon my GPS hasn't been on and I cannot report any ill effects. Does it work? You be the judge... by the way this will require root access on your phone. My results are based on a brand new stock AT&T Optimus G Pro, well stock with root.
Process:
1. go to Google Play market and install "Disable Service" by WANGQI060934
2. open the app, swipe sideways to System Apps page
3. look for Android System, click on it
4. click on IQService to uncheck it
5. be happy!
I have confirmed this remains disabled after reboot. :good:

Thanks for this I will report back in 24 Hours since the service itself seems to turn itself back on. also the "main process" still is loaded in Running Apps>Android System and it cut itself from 5mb to 2.5mb by disabling it.

Yeah, definitely DO NOT delete or rename those 2 files. It caused android.phone to force close. It also stopped my ability to receive text messages.
I deleted the Carrier IQ after backing it up with Titanium BU and that did not affect anything. Renaming those 2 remaining files, however, did affect things.

GPS, Stock AT& LG OG Pro - Further Developments???
Without a doubt I need advise and assistance with this GPS issue.
I activated my new LG Optimus G Pro Saturday. The GPS began turning itself on yesterday so, I went to Settings and discovered it was on. I disabled it with the soft toggle switch, but had to repeat this several times throughout the day. This is annoying! This morning I turned the phone on GPS came on right away so, I checked Settings and it is disabled. No quality concern here...
I see I can download an application from the Play Store to disable, but also noted the update to a newer version of Android.
Please advise regarding my best option for be rid of this nonsense.
The steps I posted above should work for you. It still works for me on latest 10p software update.

I found and downloaded the 'Disable Service', but have not determined a known safe method to root my e980. Bin4ry's method appears to be suitable, but I need to read more. I also noticed the Asian version of Root Master being discussed as a universal method for rooting, but the warning regarding its use caused me to search for Bin4ry's method.
the asian version worked fine for my att lg e98010.what warning are u talking about worked fine for me

Laggy Note 4?

Ever since I rooted my note 4 all it does is lag. My note 3 runs way smoother! I'm not sure why this phone lags all I did was install a couple of xposed modules and that's it.
Any help?

Same here.
I just tried this fix and nothing really changed but now I am unable to restore S Health data.
It fixed it mostly.
Yeah. I can't seem to sync s health data after completing the steps from that post.
Not sure what you mean by syncing s-health, just make sure you clear data, and start fresh. I did this fix 4 days ago, and my steps are there for the past 4 days. Everything is still running smooth still also.

I tried to clear cache/data from both health service and s health and it still shows the same error.
I tried to remove and add back my Samsung account and that didn't work either.
I tried this on 3g and lte but I haven't tried on wifi although I dont think being on wifi should matter.
I did not know that back up/restore existed, so I can not answer that one. Does everything else work on s-health? Can you just start fresh and not use your back up, or is s-health not working at all?

Double check the security file in the build.prop, maybe you changed the wrong one? I remember several files with security in the name. I am not comfortable messing with those files, so I checked and re-checked for that reason. Also, make sure you follow the order when clearing data, and and re-installing xposed. You only have to uninstall the installer framework, not the app completely, and wanam xposed does not get touched. Hope it helps!
OK I fixed my issue. I went to the s health app. I went to the main screen from the left side pull out menu. Then selected my name, then clicked on my Samsung account at the bottom and selected erase data and reset. Hopefully this will help someone else.
For people with lag after xposed, a person at s4gru said that they installed wanam and checked the circle battery checkbox and it lagged badly. He unchecked that and the lag went away even with xposed and wanam installed. I have not rooted my phone yet to see about lag but will eventually.

yeah, that would be me.
In my case, after rooting the Note 4 and installing my root apps everything was fine until I installed Wanam and checked on the circle battery setting to on. Then it lagged, especially when I click on the drawer icon. It would slowly go up like a snail. After unchecking the circle battery and re-installing Wanam, the lag stopped and its as speedy as day one. Now why the circle battery would make my Note lag when choosing the app drawer is a mystery.

I will have to try this! And my only guess is the different image files the note 4 uses and wanam is probably trying to change it to the circle battery but it just keeps conflicting together.
I have circle battery enabled through Wanam and I don't lag.
What I can't stand is the typing lag. I notice it mostly in Google hangouts and in some other apps. I've tried different keyboards and still the lag is present. I've notice this on my Note 3 as well only when I'm on a touch wiz rom. Anyone know how tor get rid of this typing log?
@DarkManX4lf Same thing here, only lag im getting is when using hangouts. Other then that no lag to be found what so ever.
I just tried hangouts and no lag.
ok, so I went back into Wanam and checked on battery circle and rebooted to see if I can reproduce the previous lag issue I had.
Result: no lag.
This is really odd.

lollipop issues fixed with one app....

Okay I have a note 4 and ever since 5.0 and even 5.1 my phone with wifi on would lag .... chrome would load slow, some apps wouldn't load, app store would take minutes for everything to load, facebook, etc.....
I downloaded DNSet from app store set it to auto start and now my phone is 100% working no problems, this is after many cache wipes, factory resets....
Hope this helps someone if they are having problems like I have.
An app is worth a shot...I downloaded it, and have it set, so we will see how well it does...I notice a little bit of speed increase when opening up Web pages and apps. If this keeps up, thanks for the info.
I use package disabler. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ospolice.packagedisablerpro&hl=en

That's odd. Normally there are 2 options: Set as Priority and Block. Block is missing and would've blocked all notifications from that app. So for some reason, the app designer decided that the notification is necessary and should never be removed :(

[SOLVED] Looking for a "Reliable" Call & SMS Reminder App

I'm Looking for a call & SMS reminder app that really works, even after my Nexus 5X goes into deep sleep and on battery.
Have found many threads, many comments, many apps -- but not found one that really works in all situations. They all claim more or less the same, but in real-life testing, they frequently don't remind when the phone sleeps or when it's on battery. Don't need a reminder for email, notification, or anything else.
Simple or complicated. Paid or free. Root or not. I don't care as long at it's reliable.
Any suggestions? Have I overlooked a 'gem'?

Maybe you could cook something up in Tasker? Or maybe one of the other automation apps?
This maybe?

If you don't already have Tasker, I can test it for you. Although it is a handy app sometimes.

If you want to test, that would be great. It needs to continue to run after the phone deep sleeps while on battery. Who knows, when active maybe it will prevent deep sleep. That would be oK too. One more reason for me to respond

Looks like it might have to prevent the phone from dozing.
I'll give it a try.

Thanks @PiousInquisitor. I checked out Tasker. It appears to be full of capabilities and from what I've discovered, capable of solving my problem. But to be honest - I'm not ready to learn yet another programming language. I'll pass.
FYI: I tried Prof Reminder and I like it -- but just this morning it failed to remind for a missed text until I first woke up the phone.

The Tasker thing I linked to earlier didn't work for me.
For the other app, have you turned off battery optimization for it? It shouldn't doze with that off.
Settings > Battery > three dot menu > Battery optimization > All apps (from the drop down menu)

Thanks. You might be a life-saver. Messed around in Battery optimization but never tried "All apps" and the ability to 'un-optimize' an app. Now, I've got my fav "Prof Reminder" unoptomized. Will test a couple of days to confirm.
Update: Confirmed. Working perfectly with minimal battery drain.
Update2: When deep-sleeping, it will fail to wake up. Works fine as soon as I wake up the phone and enter pwd.
Update3: V2.02 resolves dozing issues with 6.0.1

Push notifications problem

Hi all,
I'm having a very annoying problem. Sometimes I get delayed notifications, and sometimes I don't get them at all. It seems, that every application that is getting its updates through PUSH is having this problem. I've been trying to disable Doze individually for every app that I had problem with, and ended up disabling Doze completely through Developers Options. But it didn't work BTW all my iOS devices are getting notifications no problem and on time. It is very important for me because I'm trying to use it as my daily driver, and this problem for me is actually a deal breaker.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Edit: I'm running stock OS 4.7.2. No root.
Actually got the same Problem and no Idea how to fix it...
Try this:
Go to settings then to battery. Click on battery optimization, find the apps that you want notifications to come instantly and turn those ones onto don't optimize.

You are talking about Doze. I have disabled it completely through Developers Options. It doesn't help

this doze is killing android actually.
Same problem
Anyone figured this out?
Have you turned off Advanced Optimizations, under the Battery Optimization selection?
Settings>Battery>Battery Optimization
Do this for apps that you want instant notifications for.

This is the solution
No its not fixing this issue. This is something else. Besides this phone really sucks about notifying the owner sometime u dont hear the notification sounds sometimes they dont appear at all. This is so annoying...
I've got the same problem with OxygenOS 5.0.4.
Disabling Settings>Battery>Battery Optimization does not help.
Disabling Doze in developer settings does not help.
And also not optimizing it per app setting does not help at all.
As I understand it, Doze will only be activated after a certain time. But the Notification problem exists almost immediately after I turn the screen of.
So I guess that Doze should not be the problem.
AOSP based ROMs do not have this problem.
I clean flashed OxygenOS and immediately had the problem again.
Is there any solution?
This is an issue since the Op5. And I read this at different fora but there is no solution. Important calendar notifications do also not appear on my phone. A lot of apps just close while they should run 24/7 in the background.

Go in settings, battery, battery optimization, here, u will see three dots, so click on them and disable advanced optimization. Let me know if worked.

This was already disabled. Notifications are still not working reliably.

Just checked again. The Battery optimization as well as the advanced optimization is disabled for Whatsapp.
Rebooted and tested again.
The first three messages arrived immediately, two further messages (1 minute later) failed and arrived multiple minutes later.
This is extremely annoying

Are you on 5.0.4 or OB5? Custom Kernel?
Check the specific apps notifications.
Here is everything ok. Receiving notifications from all my apps.

I'm using the final 5.0.4 rooted. No custom kernel.
The notification settings in Whatsapp are the same like they are in LineageOS where the notifications work.
There even aren't any related settings to this problem, only vibration and LED settings.
In OxygenOS I disabled everything I found regarding battery saving:
- Battery optimization for Whatsapp specifically (Doze).
- Advanced optimization in the 3-dot menu.
- Battery saving option in the developer tools.
Still not working -.-
