I need to take my phone back to sprint, the microusb port doesn't work. I need to know soon before losing the charge. >,< If no, i'll still lose root, right? So can I remove superuser and update?
If you're updating from the ROMs around here, you'll not be losing root. If you download an official OTA update from Sprint, you will.
If u accept the ota u will lose root but u will still have superuser in your app drawer.

So could I remove the app using titanium or something after I lose root? Is there any way to?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
Usually not, as the Superuser app is normally installed in the /system partition, which requires root to modify.

No u need root for titanium backup to work plus superuser is in system/app which needs root access. Best way to unroot is to use sfhub auto root and unroot tool in the development section. That would do it for u.

Unrooting using Auto Root doesn't actually need a computer. Only the rooting needs a computer. You can just transfer the Auto Root folder onto an sdcard and place it in the sd slot in your phone. Then run the unroot script from terminal.
You can also just unroot using root explorer, it just isn't automated, so you have to remember what to remove.
there's a Superuser.apk in /system/app, a data folder in /data/data, symlinks to busybox in /system/xbin, binaries for su and busybox in /system/bin and /system/xbin
It might be cleaner to use Mobile ODIN to flash a stock ROM.
Holy crap, thank you. You're a lifesaver ^^

I know it's possible to root *some* phones without a computer. Does anyone know if it's possible with the Hercules?
No! You need a computer
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
Wow...... well I guess that answers that one.
lol
Thanks
I think you can not root without a computer (because of all the ODIN stuff), but I guess ROMs can be installed using ROM manager. But using clockworkmod recovery seems easier.
You can't root without PC. Odin is the only way, my adhd girl can do this!

trolling?? or... just plain... nevermind
Rooting without a computer is the DUMBEST idea in the entire world. IF you screw up your phone, like most n00bs these days do, you will have NO WAY to recover your device without sending it in... not to mention no way to read XDA to discover what went wrong.

Rooting is not the part you need a computer for..
You need a computer in order to install cwm so you can flash the superuser zip

No need to install CWM from PC.
For this method you have to download 2 files (CWM.zip & SU-Busybox-Installer.zip) to you phone and you are ready to go.
Check method 1 on this thread -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794

This is to give root access, but to gain the abilty to flash SU to gain root access, you need ODIN and a PC. On the T989, it the only way to flash CWM. To summarize, SU is the saddle, but whats really important is the horse, CWM

Yeah thats right, even you can get a horse without PC. There is app called mobile odin which makes this possible. You can flash firmware with cwm using that, mobile odin requires rooted phone, which we did using prev posts.
I have su access with cwm installed on my phone without imcrease in flash counter and yellow exclaimation at boot.
I am planning to install good rom on this. Once I do it successfully I will try to put small tut on it.

Isn't half the point of the ROM Manager app to install a custom recovery? If you have root access, you can flash CWM through it. It's literally the first action listed when you open it.

So I followed this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514434 and installed superuser and then rebooted my phone. I tried using titanium backup and it says it doesn't have root access. I tried other apps that needed root access and they all said the same. If I have superuser installed, shouldn't I be rooted. What did I do wrong?
You install busy box?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Yeah I did, it says, "BusyBox Installer was not allowed root access!"
Try using the stickied (sticky'd?) root guide. It has version 3.0.5 of superuser. I had to use this version and then update via the superuser app.
Wipe cache and dalvik and then flash su

I would just Odin the stock ROM and start all over at this point if I was you. You may have trashed up the system at this point trying to do other stuff.

You installed a custom recovery through odin. Did you install super user? And if you did you need something like titanium back up or rom toolbox pro to uninstall pre-installed apps

Yes I did all that, super user does have access but every time I try with titanium it shows removed but when I reboot they show up again. I can't even rewrite in system with root explore

Cwm via odin and flashed zip fou superuser. Superuser is on there but I don't have full root

root explorer or es file explorer and go into system/app/ and remove what you want gone my friend. It works everytime...
Thanks but I figured it out. My phone was acting super cracked out so I reflashed via Odin and used a different cwm tar and root zip file. Works good now, must have been a bad zip.

Did you remember to mount /system as R/W at the top of Root Explorer?
Hey guys, so before I got the OTA update to 4.3, my Gnex was rooted with stock recovery and stock rom. So now when I got the OTA update, my phone still has the SuperSU app installed but has lost root. Now I want to uninstall SU from my device. Is it possible to do this by going into Root Explorer, then deleting the "su" file in the 'xbin' folder, and then deleting the "Superuser.apk" file in the "apps" folder? Oh, and BTW, ever since I updated, my phone doesn't let me install apk files. I downloaded the Hovering Controls app on the XDA thread and when I click on the file, the package installer opens up. However, it doesn't register a press on the install button on the bottom right corner. I have tried this with a number of apk files but they don't work. Does anyone know a solution?
Thanks
if you dont have root, how do you expect to delete something out of xbin?
Thanks for the reply. So what would you recommend to remove super su from my device?

Go into the Superuser app settings and scroll down to find Full Unroot. See if that does the trick.

Unfortunately, I can't even go into the SuperSU app because it says that "There is no SU binary installed and SuperSU cannot install it."
I'm on 4.1.2. I rooted my device with framaroot, installed busybox, run rootfix, done everything the guide told me to do. But when I go to terminal emulator and type su it doesn't ask for root permissions. I had installed Viper and it didn't ask for root on startup and hence I couldn't install drivers. I installed trickster mod and when I started it, it would just keep loading but wouldn't go further. So I checked SuperSU's log and it says it denied permission to viper and trickster mod. But it didn't even ask for permissions! What is the problem?!
Two questions,1 do you have the super su app, or superuser app?
2 if u have either of those, did u allow them to install the su binary?
