I have a rooted Arc S with a locked bootloader but have used the SE Extreme Tweak Installer to install ClockworkMod Recovery so I can flash mods, backup, etc.
If I use flashtool to flash an ftf (like the recent .62 release) will I lose CWM or will it remain intact allowing me to boot into it and flash a rooted kernel? (thus keeping root access).
flashing this 62 will remove your root and you will not be able to root it (as i know)
But if flashtool leaves CWM intact then I can boot into CWM and flash the rooted .62 kernel that is available in another thread...
But I don't know if CWM will be blatted by flashtool or not...

Hello,
I have a R800i 2.3.4 /0.42 rooted with unlocked bootloader.i want to install the CWM Recovery through the Xperia Auto installer from Play store. My questions are:
1) If i update to official ICS using Companion, will i lose the CWM?Also can the update brick the phone?
2) Will i lose the root, until a new script released right?
That cwm is installed in the system. You will overwrite it when you change roms. If you wanna keep it when updating, you need a kernel that has it instead of the system kind.
A lot of custom roms are pre-rooted, as well as some kernels, so it won't matter.
Can someone link me to custom roms that don't require a unlocked bootlocker and a rooted xperia play?
My bootloader is locked and I've tried a million times to root my R800at but can't.
The odds of finding a rom for your locked bootloader is really slim especially for R800at plus you cant root 2.3.4 firmware.
You can install NXT Lite rom, find it in the development section, it's three clicks away. You will need CWM install which need root. To root, use flashtool to flash a rootable firmware such as an R800i 2.3.3 ftf or this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1591398
Then turn on USB debugging and use the root feature in flash tool to root it.
Then download cwm installer version 5 from here to install cwm: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437840
Boot into cwm by keep pressing volume down button at the Sony logo, then install NXT rom, then install gingerbread gapps if desired.

I have an R800a with the locked boot loader, however i plan to use LoOpy! method as seen here to flash the new kernel. My xperia play is a Rogers (canada) branded phone and i have root. I must still be running the original release version as it says under build number: 3.0.1.A.0.145 and it looked like we're in the 4s now.
What I want from flashing the new kernel is being able to run the stock rom and overclock (I want better gaming performance). I believe DoomLord kernel will accomplish this. With Loopy!s method the file must be in a FTF format, and hes posted a version of Doomlords kernel that will work with his method. However, looking at Doomlords page about installing it, I need the rom version to be "SE 4.0.2.A.0.42/.58/.62 FW... " link here. I do see that he has a kernel for my version, but its not an FTF format (its the standard .img)
Questions:
Should i update to the newest SE rom? to do this i would just use sonys software (pc companion?) to update?
I've used titanium backup to freeze/remove some apps. What apps are needed to preform the SE Rom update?
Updating the ROM version, will I lose all my apps/data? (i assume not)
Flashing to the custom kernel, will i lose all my apps/data? (maybe?)
I think i lose root when i update to the newest SE rom, but if I install the custom kernel I should get root back?
Kind of unrelated to the above, is it possible to completely back up my ROM in its current state (with bootloader unlocked =no) encase anything goes wrong i can just restore it? There is a rough guide on how to convert .img to FTF so I assume if I can get a .img i should be ok...
Thanks for the help!

A few months ago I flashed xzxperience 2 rom and RaymanFX kernel, this was before official Jellybean rom from Sony was released. My bootloader is unlocked and I want to install official the Jellybean update now. I tried DooMlords rom but it wont flash.
What do i need to do? I dont think I backed up stock kernel as I cannot find it, only stock ICS rom I backed up using clockwork recovery (does that back the kernel up I wonder?)
Can I just use Sony PC companion or OTA update?
Thanks.
No, you can't use PC companion or SEUS when you have an unlocked bootloader.
Have a look in the FAQ of the XPERIA S Development forum and see if there's a ICS ftf
There should be some ICS .45 and .55 ftf files around somewhere.
I believe you can now root .55 so it should speed up your progress to an install of the pre-rooted JB ROM.
That said, DooMLoRD provided a few fastboot 'elf' kernels that you can use to get CWM recovery mode access and then flash the JB pre-rooted ROM.
Best to have all the zip files you need on your phones /sdcard before you start any process though.
If you can't flash the pre-rooted official 6.2.B.0.200 ROM, you can install a leaked version of JB, then install DoomKernel, and you should be able to install the pre-rooted official 6.2.B.0.200 ROM and then DooMKernel again. that's the long way of doing it.
I believe if you're getting a status 7 assert failed, DooMLoRD has a fix for that too, with an ICS kernel/CWM recover of some sort.
I believe there are pointers in DooMLoRDs pre-rooted JB ROM install procedure.
As an aside, I had RaymanFX GPU/CPU over-clocked kernel installed too and found it really good.
You can use EMMA tool from Sony for unlocked bootloaders to go back to stock rom or flash a .200 ftf file with flashtool.
Other option is to flash Doomloards prerooted ROM with CWM or in case you don't have CWM (or CWM on ICS kernel and errors during flashing), first flash Doomlords advanced stock kernel which includes CWM via fastboot / flashtool and than his ROM with CWM.
thanks for the replies guys, I managed to get the doom stock jb rom working in the end, followed the tips in the thread and had to flash Advance Stock Kernel with Recovery v01 (FW 6.2.B.0.200) (CWM 6.0.2.7) before I could install the rom
I will remember in future then if I want stock rom to relock the bootloader.
My C6503 is rooted with the locked BL, but again with .434 rom.
I want upgrade to .253, but with keeping my root and without all deleted.
I see that if I upgrade via OTA, I keep my root.
But an upgrade via OTA it's impossible with recovery.
As I don't want all deleted and install all (I'll do that for the 4.2.2), I search a solution for deleted my recovery,
We have an idea for just delete CWM ?
Otherwise I'll wait for 4.2.2 and install everything properly
Try flashing just the stock kernel from a ftf file for your device through flashtool. If you changed anything in \system also flash system.
Just the kernel ?
Where I found it for the C6503 ?
There are several ftf files around on this forum, e.g. from Bin4ry. Download the one for your phone, flashing kernel will overwrite cwm.
Resolved with new install (Rom 4.2.2)
