Which kernel for OC - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have ROM XM-8 Vr 1.3. Please tell me which kernel is the best for this ROM when I want overclock. My next question is which range speed is good for overclock. Thanks

Try drowningchild's mod kernel. It has 120-806Mhz clocks. I use it like that with smartass1 governor. But it breaks wifi tether.

I found version 7 and 8.9.1 which is better? Thanks

I'm using XM-8 as well and I'm over clocked to 825mhz, runs awesome.

oc evo

Hey guys is it safe to use set cpu to oc evo? or what app would you recommend?
I use set CPU and it is safe to a certain point. If you overclock to far your phone will lock up and you will have to pull the battery. You have to experiment to see how far u can go. My phone is stable as a rock at 1152 MHz but gets llocked up at 1190 MHz so like i said experiement with it

614 mhz is the new OC! Try over clocking for sure but you see more profitable results under clocking. I do however use set cpu to OC when I am charging

Fellas,im looking to use SetCPU to OC my evo,i need a custom kernel i assume.two questions.
1.can i flash a custom kernel using the mount/unmount zip in recovery for my GodMode Synergy?
2.What Are Good Values,im trying to safely underclock to save battery life.

@gotheart, I strongly suggest freedom kernel by Lithid. There are bugs as it is in beta stage but he is an amazing developer and will implement an incredible kernel. He has one specifically for godmode so make sure you get that. He has versions that underVOLT the processor, using less battery. Though I would be cautious as some phones become very unstable with these changes.
Underclocking for CPU is variable... I like 614 MHz, some choose to go lower. I have noticed Sense ROMs (like synergy) are a bit more touchy with performance tweaks. For me, even in hot weather I need to bump my settings up, as my phone can't keep up with the heat.

Thanks so much man.i was a dev at one point..but i dunno jack about clocking cpu.lol.so youre saying 614,as in set the max value to 614 correct?and i sure will check out that kernel

Not to be a nag,but im digging for that kernel,no dice.can u link me over there pal?

I use 128 min and 614 Max. Depending on my use, and how often I'm flashing, I can get about 20 solid hours

Thanks again man.i appreciate the assistance...we all needed it at one point lol.

im using 128 MHz and 614MHz with the smartass governor.. runs really good
My best battery life is on AOSP ROM's with this set up on tiamat kernel.

what aosp rom your running?
I had been running decks, however, I have jumped skip to SalvagMod.

Ill also note a program i purchased, was cpu master by antutu inc.
Pretty much similar to setcpu.
Has profile options etc.

Cm7 and over clocking

So I have a quick question for people running cm7. I am running cm7 with aveon 6 kernal. I was just wondering what over clock speeds do you guys use?

Dl no frills CPU and test for yoursef, each phone runs defferently and with no frills u can set as boot but if it is not a proper shutdown it will not set just in case it was due to the oc/ UV. Hope this helps and I run 1.5 ghz
Tap'n on miui incredible 2
Plus one on NoFrills. I'm using Aeroevans .7bfs kernel set at 1.2ghz and using the Sio I/O on nightly 133. This works well for me. Good balance of speed and battery life.

OCing over 1.2 is useless unless you want battery to die fast
Running tiamat 1ghz gives me 30hrs on moderate
1.2 about lil more than a day
Tiamat is supposedly come out with new kernel this weekend or next.

I noticed you can't undervolt with areovans kernal. Or am I just using the wrong app? cause undervolt options don't show in voltage control

I'm using oc/uv beater app with aerovans. 7 bfs and can undervolt. Which app are you using?
With cm7 I actually like to underclock to around 800 with interactiveX. I have hit 1.9 stable using the smooth ass governor, and when I want to over clock I usually go for 1.2 or 1.4

Jeez, guys. Y'all are gonna burn out your processors running at speeds like that.

I ran my Eris for over a year at 768. I'm running my inc2 at 1.4 and it never gets hot or anything...actually it runs cooler cause my my processor keeps up with my RAM.

Using voltage control free version. I recall on other kernals I was able to undervolt. I can't find that app in the market?

Best kernel for cpu control

Hi everyone! I've got a dinc 2 rooted with stock rom, I was wondering what the best kernel was for controlling the cpu, I want to get better battery life and i'm not sure how.
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA
any kernel will do, its more about the gov's in the kernels themselves. Choose a kernel and just select the "Powersave" governor.
Excellent thanks!

No problem!
I'm running aeroevan's v10.5. It's supposed to be for his ICS ROM, but it works nicely on CM7.2, too.
The stock CM7.2 kernel doesn't allow undervolting.
I haven't played with any Sense ROMs. I prefer vanilla Android.

Best route for overclocking with CM10?

This is my first rooted device and I'd like to set the CPU frequency higher. I've read that 1600 is moderately safe and 1800 is feasible. After installing setcpu I've realized that CM10's kernel does not allow overclocking. What is the best action to take? Am I out of luck if I want to stick with CM10? Or is there another kernel I can use compatible with CM10? Thanks for reading.

Try kt kernel in original development, I've used it with great success. Has oc up to 1.89. Also allows you to under volt to save some battery. In conjunction with ktoonz kernel get voltage control from the market to adjust cpu clock and voltages.

I use Leankernel to go up to 1.9Ghz :good:

Mine has been getting pretty damn hot just at stock clock speeds...you sure you want to do that? CM10 is so fast already!

Thanks for the suggestion. I used Leankernel all day without a single issue that isn't specific to CM10 right now.
P.S. I also upgraded the modem to I747UCLH1 from this thread. To anyone interested, test your data speed on all three modems to find the best one to keep. My rates doubled with this new modem.
Kt new kernel up. 2.1ghz ktweeker app. Running Sammy version and it's blazin fast.

Hey this might be a bit late on this thread, but Siyah has just released an updated, which works with cm10 and allows for overclocking up to 1600, and undervolting to save on that ole battery... currently for the galaxy s3
Obligatory reminder:
Not all phones are the same. Some tolerate overclock/undervolt better than others. What you WANT your phone to do may not actually be what it WILL do. Start slow, only change one step at a time. I would recommend finding the perfect oc point for your phone, then slowly, slowly working the undervolt into it.

[Q] *Noob Needing Explanation*

Hello Fellow XDA members,
I have the Galaxy S3 T-999, and I flashed AOKP Milestone (4.2.2) and I am wondering what kind of kernel this comes with. Can I overclock? When I open any set cpu type application, it does not let me go past the 1.51 gigahertz mark. What can I do to properly overclock? Do I have to replace my rom all together?
Thank You,
Noob A.K.A. oyoyo12
Need different kernel.
Overclocking unnecessary, advise against it.
Yes, a kernel that supports OC is needed. Faux's kernel is a great one at least for me. For managing the frequencies, setCpu is a good choice, although its a paid app, its very simple to use. A free app that packs a lot of features is Trickster Mod. On another note, you can flash kernels on top of ROMs no need to wipe data or system, just caches just in case.

In case fauxs kernel don't work with your phone which is weird but NOT ALL PHONES ARE CREATED EQUAL so it might work for you or not and also if it does t then download ktoones kernel.. It will let u OC your phone to 2100 Ghz
