Okay so that we have a development topic (due to lack of a forum) for both phones which are basically the same.
What's going on the Galaxy W side:
Arco68 is porting CM9 to the phone
KezraPlanes is trying to port CM7 to the phone and making a custom stock ROM.
What's going on the Exhibit 2 side:
**placeholder text**
Try to keep general discussion to this topic I will post:
This will be a development topic.
So I was finally able to solve my issues with downloading the CM7 sources. Apparently it was in issue with the manifest.xml file which can be easily solved by doing this:
Add this in the beginning of the file where all the other equal references are:
<remote name="github-https"
fetch="https://github.com/"
review="review.cyanogenmod.com" />
Click to collapse
And replace the original line near the end of the file with this:
<project path="prebuilt" name="CyanogenMod/android_prebuilt" remote="github-https" />
Click to collapse
This fixes the download sources issue.
So r u gonna help us w/ cm9 an recovery

I'm not sure what issue you are referring to or what file ?
I have trouble with their instruction on the "building kernel from sources page"
repo init -u git://github.com/CyanogenMod/android.git -b gingerbread
repo sync -j8
is not working for me.
Do you suggest to modify the repo file or is that another procedure you are talking about ?

dswaggz was referring to this thread for the Exhibit 2.
My Galaxy W should arrive any day now (*impatient*) and I have an Exhibit 2. I think it'll be easy to cooperate on developing for both phones. I don't see anything in your first post about what's already working. (The phone is rooted, but beyond that, if you have any updates I'll look at post #1 )
Is it ok to PM you?

Depending on what error you are getting, it might work for you. It solved everything for me but I was using "repo sync -j16" (I was also following one tutorial from their wiki).
In my case the error made me unable to download the sources past 93%
Hi Guys,
Just have the phone for a week now, and i gotta say i really like this phone!
Had a LG Optimus Me before, but the Galaxy Wonder is so much more and better.
Hope there will be a CM 7 or 9 very soon.
Good luck with developping!
I was going to release a deodexed-rooted-arcokernel'd stock ROM today because I've figured out how to do it while helping Arco68 with ICS, but unfortunately the laptop I'm using right now (which is not the computer I use for dev'ing) corrupts the ROM everytime I build it.
I might bring back to my hometown (where I spend my weekends) my broken-screen laptop, connect it via HDMI to the TV in the living room and create the ROM there, since I have to go to my rented apartment to get some stuff anyway.
I'm aiming at a release tomorrow at the most.
Edit: I'm a ****ing idiot. I'm guessing it's going to work now,

Any recovery.
The ROM is installing fine but apparently hangs. Apparently it's the Dalvik's fault, but I don't remember messing with it.
Gonna work a little on it today.
Hopefully it will work for my device here in Malaysia...Have attached my firmware SC

@matt_6288: the T679 is the T-Mobile USA Exhibit II. KezraPlanes' ROM is for the Galaxy W (a.k.a. I8150). You can't use it as-is, but we're working on ROMs for both.
Well thanks to my mentor Arco68, I have my hands on the newest Samsung FW for the Galaxy W which makes me re-start my work from scratch. But now that I'm working on a decent computer, I should be able to do things much faster.

Source code .zip is available for download on opensource.samsung.com. Enjoy
Edit: Apparently I screwed up when I extracted the contents of the zip Sammy posted. There is way more stuff in the source .zip than just kernel sauce. There is platform sauce too, which should allow developers to modify and compile other parts of the firmware besides the kernel. OK devs, have at it!

this code is junk
I've been trying all day long to get a kernel working, they compiled fine but no-go, I end up on boot freeze or bootloop, I've tried messing with the config file all day long, does anyone have any ideas why?
I think this open source code is junk, at least for now. There wasn't an official announcement from Samsung so this could be code from back in the days, the instructions also ask you to use an older arm compiler from 2009...
Damn it, my phone is bricked now.
I just found out how worthless my apps are without root. This touch whiz has forced me to lpp.

Probably, and I rooted my phone yesterday by using a galaxy s2 kernel. All I needed to do after that was to reflash a stock kernel, however, I blew it away to root the phone..so catch 22
I was planning on compiling a kernel from source, but like zedomax saw, the compiled binaries didn't work and put the phone into a bootloop. I guess I should have warned him, though at the time, I thought I was doing something wrong (first time doing anything so involved with an android device).
Now, I've an stock Epic 4G Touch sitting next to my frankenrooted device from the other day...if I can get the stock kernel off of one onto the other...viola, proper root access.
I'm in the exact same boat you two are in: bootloop after trying out my self-compiled kernel from Samsung's source code. If anyone gets a hold of a working kernel, care to post it somewhere so I can at least have a working phone again?

lol, samsung just blew us by this time, those open source files were like not open source somehow.
***this thread is made strictly for development purposes so that any developer can join up and help the development of a working port of this for the Galaxy Wonder***
Okay at this point in time I'm trying to make an hard port (the easy way) of CM7 by trying to make a generic build of CM7, then bundling it with Arco68's kernel and afterwards fix the libs and whatnot.
I've already managed to compile the generic build and am now playing around to create a working .ZIP file.
Update 1 : ZIP install fine, but no boot, at least for now. Time to play a little
Update 2: Hm, weird. I was convinced this was gonna work. I'm most likely missing some Samsung patches and **** that generic builds don't have. Going back to the drawing board.
Update 3: While I go into theories about how I should go about CM7, I'm also downloading the sources for Oxygen, because I prefer it over CM7. That way I can study both.
Right on bring it on !

Good luck with that considering we have zero basis to work on and building a ROM from source. If you achieve the miracle of building a 'vendor' folder that actually compiles, tell me. That tutorial assumes you have a vendor config that works for your device.
Anyways good luck. I'm still trying to make a working vendor folder.

I have compiled CM9 for the wildfires CDMA and have got it to boot. There is still alot wrong with it but this is taking over the CM7 project i was doing before this. I may go back and get CM7 stable when this is done though, just because I hate leaving things unfinished.
Anyways, so far I have used alot of modpunks folders and kernel and modified them to work with the cdma version of the wildfire s. Its still being worked on heavily however. If you would like to compile the rom, instructions below follow. Of course you will need to have the environment already ready to compile roms.
::::NEW::::
I set out to fix wifi, And in turn I actually fixed a lot of things. Enough that I classify it as a beta, so seeing as that. Download link is below. Please, only report logcats or unknown problems. Thanks
Code:
mkdir ~/cm9
cd ~/cm9
repo init -u git://github.com/simonsimons34/android.git -b ics
repo sync -j12
. build/envsetup.sh
lunch 5
make -j2 bacon
Note this rom doesnt function well but does boot. If you'd like proof a precompiled rom is located here in this folder. I will make them whenever i build a change, and send them off to my testers.

Why don't you just send me patches so we have just one tree instead of forking? Forking should normally only be the last option. There is a reason why the Liberty and Marvel have a common kernel tree. Less work and everyone gets the fixes.

I had issues as well. I flashed clockwork mod through rom manager and then I was finally able to flash the rom.

Yeah I used to get a lot of freezes and restarts when I was a noob and did not know what I was doing wrong with the flashing until I figured out it was my recovery. My phone (CDMA) doesn't like CWM version 5.0.2.6 or 5.0.2.8 or whatever those versions are. I am using 4.0.1.5 and things flash fine without restart. I have not tried this ROM and will try it later when I get more time but if it's random restarts during flashing and backups, then change your CWM to version 4.
Hope this helps. If it doesn't, sorry that I misunderstood your problem.

One more thing while I'm on this thread, does the phone get recognized as an Android phone under this ROM? I know with Sense 3.5, it didn't and so I could not install Swype Beta and I can't live without swype on this small phone. Thanks to whoever answers this.

It can work, I have port a cm7 rom some time ago with this kernel. But you a right it is not a pure kernel, but if you overlooked samsung have released the sources of gb kernel, cause of the gpl and arco have taking it into his github.
Btw I myself have done some minor working to get me a device folder for our galaxy w, which compiles okay for cm7 and aosp, but with out luck to get it started right. It stucks somewhere in an initialization.
If it had worked, I would have let you know right away.

Yeah, I also would like to have it. And I also played with AOSP, but I'm just a beginner in android development.
I would be glad if some experienced developer could assist and guide us.
Regarding the stop in the start process I have to do some deeper investigation or is here someone who could do it and examine the boot process?
As you all know "Ubuntu for phones" has been released for the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10. Lets discuss about this being a possiblity to port on our device.
A porting guide will be posted on Ubuntu website on 22nd (which is today in India).

Great my fingers-crossed hope we can take advantage of Ubuntu in our phone

Dual Boot
Just curious, the porting guide says that Ubuntu runs over the stock kernel, if it's right, would it be possible to run it in dual boot?
Samsung Galaxy S (I9000) is having official support and currently the port is work in progress. Apart from the system partition size issue, if samsung galaxy s can run it, so can defy. This is very early stage and we can only presume such thing.

Should not be, most of the phones which can run cm 10.1 can easily handle this. Building it too doesn't look much difficult. "Ubuntu for phones" is surprisingly based on CM sources.
I've not enough speed for syncing sources, maybe Kayant or m11kkaa can build it for us.

Till it gets stable enough to worth porting, we will probably have CM 10.1 and kernel 3.0 working perfectly
A little update
I have successfully compiled the the ubuntu zip for our defy however, am facing a major issue at the moment which is the prebulit image that is needed to flash before installing the defy zip is not being installed for some reason Am currently trying to find why this is but no luck so far...... I think I may be something to do with our data partition..... maybe the preimage is too big for it??? that am not sure but I have just reduced it by deleting some images and videos included in the demo..... Hopefully it will decide to work this time
Edit - that did the trick it's working now ^_^

what is the version of kernel?
sorry for my bad english
Hello!
I am an ubuntu user since 2006 or so and was quiet happy to see the news about it on phones but the hardware requirements are a bit stronger than what our device has. I remember something about minimum dualcore processors and 1 Gb ram. But if someone manages that'd be fun

What exactly do you mean Is the phone not booting pass the black screen after the moto logo.... if so you need to make sure you have wipe data if not the quantal-preinstalled-phablet-armhf.zip won't be installed and flashed the quantal-preinstalled-phablet-armhf.zip first or it will never boot.
