[Q] Tmobile customer traveling to Canada - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hey everyone- not new to the community but i need some help in figuring out what exactly needs to be done for me to get service in Toronto.
I have tmobile and i refuse to pay the roaming charges they have for Canada- I plan to use a telus or rogers prepaid sim. Which one should i choose and why? i am only there for the weekend too so dont need a bunch of minutes or anything.
Also- i have put in a request to get my phone unlocked through tmobile. Once i have it unlocked- do i just pop in either a Telus or Rogers SIM and be on my way? or is there more to it such as flashing a specific radio??
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Can't help you regarding which operator to pick . I can however tell you that once you receive the network unlock code , simply pop in the SIM card and move on. That's all there is to it.

yup it's that easy
just punch in the unlock code and you are done
you can use any network you want, since our phone is Pentaband, it will work with any operator with a SIM card in Canada
might want to turn of auto DATA sync as it will eat up your pre-paid in record time
data charges are ridiculous on pre-paid cards, so use manual sync for only the stuff you need to find/get

Thanks for the reply guys- I received the unlock code from Tmobile today and applied it using an ATT sim card.
So i dont have to flash any modems/radios? saw something in another thread about that or is that strictly to gain 3g/4g speeds on those carriers?

[Q] Can I use a t-mobile SG3 with AT&T?

So I'm planning on getting an unlocked SG3 but it's originally from t-mobile and I currently have AT&T. Will this work? I'm not planning on getting the expensive data plans though... But I heard that AT&T wouldn't be able to read the phone because it's not an AT&T phone.
Also I have a SIM card. Would I be able to go to AT&T and ask them to transfer my contact/info from my SIM to a microSIM free? Some people have said that they simply want to get a microSIM and said that they have an adapter to make it a regular SIM card so that they can still use it for their "dumbphone."
P.S. I don't know anything about networks or phone details since I'm not knowledgable about the hardware and whatnot about technology. So please keep the explanations as simple as possible. Step by step processes would be nice!

Yes you can fully use the T-Mobile version on att and get H+ speeds. Not sure about data plan... I know that worked for international version though.
Just store your contacts on your Google account and you can sync your contacts to any phone in a minute. No need to store by Sim. Yes there are microSIM adapters, but I don't like them as they sometimes mess up the prongs that read the SIM.
The only thing you won't get is lte speeds but h+ is more than sufficient.

I can confirm that as I am using a T-Mobile sg3 on at&t whilst typing this. The only problem I had was the mobile data wouldn't work at first and my local store changed one character of my imei and it started to work. There are other APN settings that work too.

[Q] No Tmobile Towers In Iowa. Help!!!

i bought my note 3 in sc and came back to iowa to work til thanksgiving. Problem is i have no data signal no 4g 3g or any g. tech support says that tmobile has a contract with iowa wireless to allow text and talk but no data. i was wondering if there was a way to unlock the phone so that it can use other cell towers in the area to allow me to get data. will rooting help this or am i just stuck until i leave iowa. Please help really sucks to have so much phone and not be able to use it to its potential. Sorry if i am in the wrong section please move to the correct one. Thanks. Also my friend has 2g on his tmobile phone tech support says that he may not have it all the time though.
Rooting won't make a tower show up. The best you can possibly do would be to try to get activated on a different provide (AT&T for example). But you would have to do some work, and buy an AT&T account to use.
Otherwise, you are stuck with what you got. Coverage maps give you a rough idea of what is available.

what i would probably do is try to pickup a wifi hotspot from a different carrier with good coverage and use wifi calling on the phone, not ideal by far though $
If it's SIM unlocked you could try getting a straight talk SIM as those use AT&T's network. It's prepaid so you don't need to sign a contract and can end it after a month.

This is what I was thinking. Buy a prepaid SIM, stick it in your phone and see if it works.
Go to that unlock site, and yes, the unlock code for mine came in about 20 minutes. Then head over to the att thread. There is a page for Tmobile on att with setting for the MMS etc.

Need Help Getting Sprint Network on Verizon Note 2

Okay, I'm sure the information is all out there, so before I get told to search forums or google, I have. My issue is that I'm just having the hardest time putting all the scattered information together and understanding it. There's too much information to decipher whats needed, accurate andd up to date for my situation. So I was wondering if someone whose done this before could just give me the straight to guide.
I have verizon, my girlfriend has sprint. She broke her S4. I have an old verizon note 2 that is unlocked, rooted, custom recovery and on CM11.
What I need to do is get it on the sprint network and get her service switched over to it.
I know it has something to do with APN settings, but there's so many different ones whether it's for internet and MMS. I basically just want her to be able to use it to make phone calls and maybe regular texts. I got all confused when I saw things dealing with PRL and what not, so I don't actually know which things I need to make this work.
I put the sim card from her S4 into my Verizon note 2 and opened the access point settings under mobile network. There are a bunch of sprint ones in there now, I don't know which one to choose. I tried the one just labeled "Sprint" and then rebooted to get the APN settings to switch over but I still have no service to try and activate the phone.
So could someone please give me a simplified walk-through of putting in sprint's settings on a verizon note 2. I tried flashing a Sprint CM11 rom but it failed. So now i am going to try flashing a sprint touchwiz rom to see if that will make all the necessary changes for me.
Update: I Just finished flashing jellybomb touchwiz rom, it flashed but wont get into the phone setup, says there's an encryption error and the phone needs to be reset. I did that and it still does the same.
Thanks in advance guys, I've flashed a lot of roms, I've just never switched my phone to another carrier before.
You can't activate a non Sprint branded phone on the Sprint network. Period. The esn is not in the Sprint database and even if you wanted to use the phone strictly for traveling internationally, The sim card from Sprint will not work in the Verizon phone for the same reason. You'd have to "clone" the phone/esn and that is completely illegal. I would spend my time on craigslist or Facebook and try to trade your Verizon phone for a Sprint one. That's what I would do.
FYI . Verizon phones are actually in demand due to the much larger customer base so making a trade for a Sprint S4 or Note 2 should be fairly easy. But MAKE SURE you check the ESN with Sprint before making a trade because a blacklisted esn phone can NOT be activated and you will be SOL.
So only networks like at&t and T-mobile will work on my Unlocked verizon phone?

If you're referring to your Verizon phone being a "world phone" which does in fact have a sim card and gsm network capabilities, then technically yes it would perhaps be possible to get it to work on AT&T or T-Mobile onl;y but it would be very difficult and time consuming to unlock the sim portion of the Verizon phone and hack it so that it would not be rejected by either network due to the ESN. You'd have better luck trying T-Mobile because they seem to be more lax with unbranded iPhones etc on their network. But in all honesty you would be better off trading your Verizon phone especially if it has a clear esn and getting a phone that's ready to go with no headaches and fully functional on the network.
thanks for the replies

Unlocked issued on Cricket Network

I have the LG E980 Optimus G Pro POS phone. Had it unlocked, inserted a cricket sim card and though I can sometimes make calls when it decides to connect, I very rarely get 4G or LTE, mostly its a little "E" with one or two bars of signal. The phone will not send photos but surfs the web on wifi with no issues.
I have read through this forum and found some workarounds with StraightTalk users but can't find anything for Cricket users. I have tried creating an APN with Crickets data but the Authentication Type is restricted from any editing leading me to believe that this phone is locked to AT&T's network regardless of what unlock codes I entered successfully.
When I attempt to make outbound calls the phone usually takes 3-4 attempts as it drops the call and forces me to redial eventually after enough tries it connects but the quality of the call suks monkey nutz.
I don't really know if rooting will help. I did try a workaround straight talk users were having success with where the APN was edited with the SIM card removed but even that was fruitless as the AT&T APN kept showing up over and over again once I reinserted a SIM card.
This phone is slated for air to wall impact testing very soon if this waste of money can't be fixed and my thoughts that AT&T locked this junk down turn out to be true. So if anyone is knowledgeable with Cricket networks using this phone any guidance is appreciated and in advance I humbly bow to your expertise in these matters. THANK YOU.
I use the phone on Cricket network and have had nothing but superb service, I had service with AT&T. I ordered my sim off ebay for Cricket inserted it went through the setup and all is fine. only thing I can think of is your phone is not unlocked... Mine is carrier and boot loader unlocked and rooted, only problem I had was I couldn't send picture mess... spot where you add the APN type was blanked out, that was on stock 4.4.2 I just went with a modded version of 4.4.2 and all is fine... blows att out of the water full bars lte all the time, Hope you get it figured out.. sure glad I switched....
U really dont need a unlocked att phone to use on cricket
Locked att phones work fine too
Cricket runs on the att network and is owned by att
I switched my s4 from att to cricket without unlocking
The cricket salesman also said any att phone would work since its the same network
You must have a diferent issue
I use my att e980 on cricket at this moment
Bought it off ebay and very happy with it

Supplementary services not working on N975F/DS with AT&T

Hey so I am having an issue where the Supplementary Services on my N975F/DS are not working with AT&T but seems to work fine with a T-Mobile SIM. Whenever I try to open Supplementary Services with my AT&T SIM inserted it gives me an error "Failed to read data. Something went wrong. Check your SIM card or network connection, then try again."
I have already tried the following:
Replaced my AT&T SIM card twice
Reset Network settings
Spoke with multiple AT&T representatives who allegedly changed some stuff on the "backend" to fix it but in reality it did nothing.
I am on Android 10 running Dr.Ketan rom Q07. Only have 1 SIM card inserted, the other slot has my MicroSD card.
So any ideas on what I could try to get this fixed?
Thanks!
This isn't the answer you want but change carriers. I have the same device and AT&T didn't play nicely with it. Slow data and no wifi calling. I switched to TMobile (and mint for a cheap second line) and it works perfectly.

I've thought about it for a while now, just didn't want to pull the trigger since I have everything with AT&T (been with them since they were CIngular/Pac-Bell). How's the coverage and signal strength compared to AT&T? Any downsides/issues after switching?

That's a good question. I was an AT&T customer for 10+ years before bailing and I had some concerns about T-Mobile's coverage and network but I was pleasantly surprised their coverage was right there with AT&T and the Verizon phone I use for work. Coverage probably varies for everyone based on where they live but I've been using T-Mobile for almost a year and no regrets. It's a nice perk getting Netflix for $2 a month and they support RCS for text and Wifi calling. Btw, I don't work for T-Mobile or even own stock, just sharing my experience with them.

You don't own stock? Well too bad, I'm sure my extra $50 a month would of made you a billionaire  xD
But yeah after extensive troubleshooting with multiple AT&T reps, replacing my SIM card multiple times and even trying my sisters AT&T SIM with the same error it is official that AT&T does not like non-AT&T phones. I got a prepaid T-Mobile SIM and popped it in to try it our for a month and boom Supplementary services works like a charm with it. So looks like I have to live with it until I decide to pull the trigger and switch to T-Mobile.
For everyone else who stumbles into this thread via google, you will get nowhere really with AT&T reps, nothing they do will fix this as it is an issue with AT&T itself and not the phone. So if you want to use call forwarding you will need to reach out to AT&T directly and have them set it up as not even MMI codes work... or just switch to T-Mobile. Hopefully AT&T does some backend changes to fix this and get it working but not holding my breath.
