No. But the update will fail if you have removed any apps from /system/app/.

[Q] Just rooted.

I have just rooted using Superoneclick with ZergRush, (bootloader is still locked), and uninstalled some of the bloat (video unlimited, timescape, etc....), using Titanium.
My question is that when Sony Ericsson release an OTA update (i'm currently on 2.3.4). Will I be able to update without any problems?
If not how would I go about updating?
I have an unbranded generic R800i (UK model).
Thanks.
(sorry if this question has been answered before).

Thanks. Was worried there for a moment.
You can unlock with SDK.Sony Ericsson will let you unlock boot loader but!you lose your warranty.just google and get the code from se to unlock bl.it didn't effect if you are rooted and have locked bl.

Not really bothered about unlocking the boot loader atm. Just wanted to root so I could remove some of the bloat.

Actually if you delete any files from /system/app/ you will not be able to ota update (update will fail). But afaik you can still use seus/pc companion to update.

Ics play update

When the ics update come in, I want to install this update, I have doomkernel, rom stock 2.3.4, root.
After update, I have root permition and my apps ?

depends on how you update. i believe that if you update OTA (over the air) then you will retain all apps and root.

But he said that he has Doomkernel which means he is bootloader unlocked. So doing an OTA would obviously brick the phone.

I may be incorrect but I thought that either unlocked via test point you wold still brick your phone if you do an OTA, when I OTA'd this last time a couple months ago I had to re-lock my bootloader, then update, then re-unlock.
Ok. Well that doomkernel wouldn't boot in ics anyway so he would need to fastboot/flashmode stock kernel anyway . Actually when you think about it ics would not be released ota as you would need new kernel and they can only be flashed via pc.

I think they are probably just going to release it via SEUS, cuz I doubt they have any means of updating kernel OTA either

[Q]Custom rom and warranty

Hi! I'm new to android and this forum so I have some questions before I start flashing roms and tweaks. I have a rooted r800i locked bootloader.
1.If I flash a custom rom(Gin2JellyBean) will I still have warranty if i flash back .42 on my r800i?
1b.If I still have warranty after flashing Gin2JellyBean where can I get the stock rom?
2.If I brick my play is it any way I can restore it?
3.Can sony pc companion detect the play with a custom rom?
Thanks!

Yes.
Unless your bootloader is unlocked, your warrenty is valid.

From development section or Wotan (a windows program).
2.If I brick my play is it any way I can restore it?

Yes.
You require root to flash gin2jelly so you will lose warranty however flashing back to stock will unroot phone so you will have warranty back
And se phones gets soft brick most of the times and are easily recoverable but if you get hard brick there is a fix for that too and its free
Except your sim is locked.
And pc can detect your phone with custom rom installed

Okey, Thanks!
I will flash Gin2JellyBean tonight. Because my mom took wrong phone for work this morning -.-

you flash the kernel with fastboot and the Rom with Clockwork Mod Recovery and root with custom kernels or superoneclick

6.1.A.2.55 For UAE now official Xperia S

What you suggest update it or not? I heard rooting is not possible after upgrade to .55 with lock bootloader. Anything new in this firmware except baseband.
Some says better battery life.

there is an OTA of 36.1mb on my device..! will i loose the root, cwm and mods !! if i go for it ??
Ynt: 6.1.A.2.55 For UAE now official Xperia S
I'm using that and yes impossible to root without unlocked BL.. You'll lose your cwm, root, kernel..
Xperia S - .55 Stock FW, Unlocked BL, Advanced Stock Kernel
So i love to stay in Locked bootloader. No need to update it.
The OTA upgrade kept root on my XPS.

I know that and that makes even less sense. It has always been possible to download music info with a locked bootloader, unless you unlocked your bootloader and relocked it, but in that case there was this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...o working again on ICS with ReLock bootloader.
And now there already is an app that works on both. I'm not the only one saying he's months late...

Firstly, your OP doesn't say anything about not requiring root, so there's no reason to shout at us as if that's an obvious difference.
Secondly, if someone is running stock firmware on a locked bootloader and without rooting, the music downloader will work anyway.
I don't want to troll, but you can't go claiming you invented something when it's really nothing new.
