OK so I've been playing about with a few ROM's over the last few weeks, since my Desire starting playing up, after being on DroidZone's Supernova ROM with Data2SD.
Data2SD was my main reason for using the superb Supernova ROM. The ROM has Sibereís Data2SD script built into the ROM allowing for up to 2GB of internal memory. It was good, but it was missing a few things that you get with Sense 3.0 & 3.5 ROM's. Speed was good but not as excellent as you get from AOSP GB ROMS.
SO..
When it messed up, I booted a few AOSP ROMS to see which ones I could implement Data2SD into. After messing about with Oxygen, GingerVillain and countless others, GParting the SD card and wiping the Fat32 & Ext4 partitions between each install, I went for MildWild's Oxygen based ROM v2.2.2 with ICS theme from the Xperia Arc Launcher. Great ROM, and after I added Sibereís Data2SD script, excellent. But again it was missing a few things I liked with Sense ROM's..
Now I'm running Aurora V5 with AD2SDX.
Aurora v5 adds Sense 3.0 with lots of tweaks. Full Gallery integration with Facebook, Picassa, Flickr, etc all work, which is what I wanted from the AOSP ROMS. To add the ICS look & feel, I installed Go Launcher Pro from the market and themed it with ICS Pro Go Launcher theme. I now have a fully themed ICS Desire, Home screen, App launcher, SMS (Go SMS), Facebook, Twitter, Search bar widgets all ICS themed.
AD2SDX is like Sibereís script but keeps some essential system files in internal memory instead of shifting everything to the SD card which I found can cause a bit of lag.
Overall Aurora v5 together with the ICS themed Go Launcher Pro is the perfect combination for my Desire. Quick, battery friendly, no lags and fully featured.

Thanks for the post, I recently side graded to a Nexus S because of my love for ASOP roms and loathing of sense stuff but...
I've given my HTC desire to my girlfriend and she loves the sense stuff.
I'm going to whack this onto her phone and see how it does as she has been complaining about battery life and other stuff with her current rom.
are you going to post everyday bout a rom ( increasing post count eh!)

What rom would you recommend for Desire? If I'm looking for:
1. simple: no sense, no extra stuff like facebook, stock widgets and crap.
2. stock Android UI.
3. the faster the better (good SetCPU app support would be great with overclocking and underclocking)
4. with all new 2.2 functions like 720p video capture.
OpenDesire I reckon, find it in Android Development
Will try today, if there wont be any better suggestions.

i second that.
I used OpenDesire for a couple of days and didn't care for it, I'm using a Cyanogenmod nightly (they're now basically release-quality) with a few unwanted APKs removed prior to installation (amazon mp3, facebook, twitter, calculator, live wallpapers, talk, etc) and it's by far the best rom I've tried. I've tried about 5 in all, all but Cyanogen being from this forum.
If you remove unwanted APKs, use extreme caution not to remove things that are part of the OS. For example, I removed the Google Talk APK but not its "provider" IIRC, since the provider actually does a bunch of other things and is in no way safe to remove.
Nothing against the other rom developers, but from my experience, Cyanogenmod is just on a whole different level.

definitely faster, works better with setCPU.. even the UI is more simple and clean it offers more then damn sense! Like these customizable power widgets and stuff that weren't on stock 2.2 OS. thanks
Camera works decent too.. but some options is missing, maybe there is alternative camera app?
What's the name of that widget at the top of the screen in the last picture? Or is that one of the "customizable power widgets" that aren't in Sense Roms or whatever?
Only being able to select 2g and auto on dearest and open desire is a real pain tho
Don't listen to u about putting back all stock profiles to include 3G!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi guys im a new android user - about a week old now.
I recently flashed to Lite'ning coz people are talking about it and i guess its popular.
Im not happy with the icons and blue/black theme that comes with it.
Which ROM should I go for if i want to achieve the below theme? I have read a few good ones VillainROM / LeoMar ? What are your suggestions?

the very last image looks like Launcher Pro. The lock screen could be done with Widget Locker. Not sure about the first two home screens.
I'm running SensioN ROM currently. Happy with the way it looks, performs. Battery life seems better than stock, also.
I'm personally using VillainROM, and it's great. I love it, and would recommend it.
However, I'm also planning to check out Cognition 1.32 when it comes out.
Hi, I'm not sure from which Rom/themes those icons are..I was also from Villain to Litening, great Roms but now on Leomar since the last 2 days..more customizations available and many themes/options you can choose from the kitchen app! Easy to try it..just download the Revolution app from the market (link also provided from the Leomar sub forum)
then just download the rom from there..make sure you have back up your device using CWM first as this is a wipe ROM...good luck!
The latest MIUI Tom is fast, stable and extremely pleasing on the eye.
With base MIUI you get the best of Android mixed with the best of ios, clean and easy to use.
If you want it more Android do as I do and run ADWex or Launcher Pro on top.... makes for the best user experience in my opinion. I have tried many custom ROMS but keep coming back to MIUI.

The first two pictures are from MIUI.
Not sure about the last one, but guess it could be done by applying custom theme and launcher.
ROM.Batista70_3.5_By_SnakeS( which seems to be removed from xda) + Kernel.ninphetamine-2.0.5
Good battery life and nice to look at.
I'm using LeoMar's ROM as his ROM Kitchen gives you plenty of customisations options to choose from. It's like building a ROM the way you want it. I use MIUI from time to time - The most recent update has gotten ALOT better.
I suggest Leo's rom. Super battery life and great performance.

I have been test driving a few roms in the past few days, and did a brief benchmark comparison of three ROMs: 1)Preloaded GB 2.3.3 that came with the phone with all VZW ****ware frozen, and rooted. 2)Virtuous Unity 1.31.3 (Sense 3.0) and 3)CM7 Nightly #42(AOSP) with integrated kernel. Keep in mind that your result may vary as we all know each phone behave differently. All three versions were running on integrated kernel that came with the ROM.
Preloaded GB 2.3.3

Virtuous Unity 1.31.3 (Sense 3.0)
1Ghz
1.3Ghz
1.5Ghz
CM7 Nightly #42 AOSP
1Ghz
1.3Ghz
1.5Ghz
Here is how I would rank them in real world performance, your experience may vary:
Overall Speed(transfering files, restoring Ti backup and sms/mms messages, launching apps, etc.):
1)CM7
2)Virtuous Unity
3)Stock GB
Fluidity/Smoothness
1)CM7
2)Stock GB
3)Virtuous Unity
Customization
1)CM7
2)Virtuous Unity
3)Stock GB
Out of the box functionality
1)Stock GB
2)Virtuous Unity
3)CM7
Cosmetically(Obviously this is subjective, some people can't stand the HTC sense and prefer AOSP, while others dig it, personally I really like the Sense 3.0, it's so purdy. LOL)
1)Virtuous Unity
2) Stock GB
3)CM7
The CM7 #42 required quite a lot more patches than others (Gapps.zip, Tiamat kernel to fix volume issue, etc), my phone doesn't like Tiamat kernels and had a few hard lockups that required battery pull (hold vol + power didn't work) so I wiped everything and reflashed with the stock kernel instead. I still can't get the build in mail to sync with Hotmail, had to install 3rd party K9 mail to access my hotmail. I don't like the camera from this rom, I think someone suggested to use the MIUI-Camera instead. Though, this is the speed king here, it's easily 2~3x faster than the other 2 roms, I/O is amazing and it's apparent when I restored Ti backup and thousands of sms/mms messages. The fugly ADW launcher sucks, I used Go Launcher EX instead. This rom has a ton of settings, if you like to customize you will love this. It's as vanilla as it can gets, lean and fast like Bruce Lee.
Not much to say about the stock preloaded GB. It's quite smooth and snappy even at the stock 1Ghz, everything just work. Now that we have root for it and able to freeze or uninstall all the ****ware, I can easily live with this rom as my daily driver. This thing is rock solid, period.
Virtuous Unity 1.31.3 has very few bugs but a little more choppier than I used to, the choppiness improved a bit by overclocking it to about 1.2~1.3Ghz. This rom is quite heavy, take up more space than the other two, probably due to the sense 3.0, but hey you gotta pay to play. There are quite a lot of spacing between icons though, I'd have like it more if we can pack them closer together. This is what I'm test driving at the moment.
CM7 should offer the best bench performance. Take the numbers for what they are but CM7 gets me about 2300 in quadrant vs. 1550 on the stick ROM.

Ok, so I sat around for a long time thinking about how I could get a sense 3.0 lockscreen without rooting (before rooting obviously). I thought 3.0+ was so incredibly amazing before I really dove into it all. Now here I am, wishing we could get the 2.1 lockscreen (which I like so much more) on more ROMs. I'd run 2.1 ROMs but I found through rooting that I like so many features of higher sense versions better, but want 2.1 back.
For instance, I like the 3.5 dialer and mms stuff, as well, as the 3.0 weather over the 3.5 version.... I also don't mind the 2.1 Rosie, but hate the overscroll. I love the 2.1 lockscreen, but can't have that and the features of others as well. Is it possible at all to make it happen? If so, I wanna look at making it work.
Am I the only one who's picky about sense ROMs like this?? Lol
Sent From My Mikrunny'd Superphone Using Magic (TapaTalk)
certain things can be ported, just needs refinement
ie sense 2.1 lockscreen on a sense 3.0 rom (in this case tsm trinity)
the lockscreen works, just it would have to be hacked up to change resource ids to fix mismatches (in this case the music control buttons)

really depends how heavily a particular apk is tied into the framework on the particular sense version, and what its dependencies are
Yea, the idea of a mashup rom is cool. I'd like to see the sense 3.5 music and camera apps backported to 2.1. If it is as difficult as it sounds, it's not likely to happen, but that would be awesome. Cause sense 2.1 is the most stable on our phones atm, so using it as a base ensures stability. But I miss 3.0 and 3.5.

I would love something like this. I love the Sense 3.0 and 3.5 goodness but am currently running an AOSP ROM because anything higher than 2.1 chokes my phone.

In a few months we will get an update. We will probably get sense 3.5.
You are picky, IDK if you will find a Rom with all that. But I stick with stock because of the amazing camera quality. I'm still searching for the perfict ROM though.

Sense 2.1
Well that is not possible unless u are talking of themes of sense on top of jb,which is possible by using go-launcher but full sense 2.1 on in is going to be a miracle

No im just talking about that sense Launcher, and the themes and the Apps,
Settings and co. would stay Jelly Bean, so you have the feel of Sense with the Speed and the functions of JB

There was a Launcher Pro Sense UI that someone made... it's not a theme though, the actual app files are modified, it's pretty realistic. You might have a hard time finding it, but if you look in the G1 dev. forums, look for GinSense - it's a Sense themed Cm7.2 - that contains the aforementioned app, if your willing to download >50Mb of unneeded stuff just for that.

I found it but it doesn't have these Apps and the Lockscreen /:

It's based on Gingerbread - it does have the basic framework themed, such as status bar, lockscreen, etc., so you'll have to be willing to do some porting of the framework. You might as well take them from a real sense ROM if you're going to do that. Speaking of which, why do you want to make Jelly Bean look like the sickening gloss of Sense 2.1? If you like Sense, at least go for Sense 4.0+, and install VenomZ or something.
Just my opinion.
