[Q] Fast and simple HTC Desire 2.2 rom without Sense? - Desire General

What rom would you recommend for Desire? If I'm looking for:
1. simple: no sense, no extra stuff like facebook, stock widgets and crap.
2. stock Android UI.
3. the faster the better (good SetCPU app support would be great with overclocking and underclocking)
4. with all new 2.2 functions like 720p video capture.

OpenDesire I reckon, find it in Android Development

Will try today, if there wont be any better suggestions.

i second that.

I used OpenDesire for a couple of days and didn't care for it, I'm using a Cyanogenmod nightly (they're now basically release-quality) with a few unwanted APKs removed prior to installation (amazon mp3, facebook, twitter, calculator, live wallpapers, talk, etc) and it's by far the best rom I've tried. I've tried about 5 in all, all but Cyanogen being from this forum.
If you remove unwanted APKs, use extreme caution not to remove things that are part of the OS. For example, I removed the Google Talk APK but not its "provider" IIRC, since the provider actually does a bunch of other things and is in no way safe to remove.
Nothing against the other rom developers, but from my experience, Cyanogenmod is just on a whole different level.

with Open Desire
definitely faster, works better with setCPU.. even the UI is more simple and clean it offers more then damn sense! Like these customizable power widgets and stuff that weren't on stock 2.2 OS. thanks
Camera works decent too.. but some options is missing, maybe there is alternative camera app?

What's the name of that widget at the top of the screen in the last picture? Or is that one of the "customizable power widgets" that aren't in Sense Roms or whatever?

Only being able to select 2g and auto on dearest and open desire is a real pain tho
Don't listen to u about putting back all stock profiles to include 3G!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I understand it correctly, that's the launcher (app drawer) from Nexus One.
would like to see 5 icons across rather than four. But not sure what else it does lol

How have you had it working, i.e. in the sense that it looks and acts like a nexus one.

We have already found that you just pull the apk from a nexus1 rom and install it onto the desire.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6002164&postcount=80
Then you goto applications and remove htcsense from being default and force close it. when you next go to the home screen it asks which one you want to use (htcsense or launcer2)
EDIT: You can also install Gallery3d from the nexus this way

But if you just install launcher2.apk from N1 it's not functioning properly -- icons are small, etc.

Maybe I had the wrong APK. Can you share the one you've used?

[Q] HTC Sense Copy&Paste for non-sense roms?

sorry if this has been asked before, my search didn't lead to any results, so I try it this way.
I'm running OpenDesire 3.1 at the moment and really like the stock Android UI a lot more than HTC's Sense. But, I have to admit, that HTC did some nice things to android.
What I really miss a lot is the way copy&paste works in Sense
(if you hold your finger on one word it gets marked and you can move the two slider at the beginning and end of that word to the desired length of what you want to copy etc.).
Is there a way to port that over to OpenDesire or another non-sense ROM?
If you want you can try this application

Copy Paste It for Root Users

$3.99
There is also free version, it work also with immage, and it can replace the copy/paste of sense.
I bought it and i can say that work soo good.
I hope this can help you with your problem.
thanks, that's quite good, but I think it's pretty expensive and it's not exactly what I'm looking for. I really like the litte pop up with the options of copy, search and share...
This here is what I'm talking about(just in case I failed to describe it clearly):
(edit: since I'm not allowed yet to post Links, it's a video on androidcentral, where the feature is shown on the Droid incredible.)
I'm really happy with OpenDesire, but I miss this function a lot.
I think almost everything you only see in Sense, will only be available WITH Sense. That copy and paste thing is built-in to the browser. (and maybe other Sense apps? I've never tried)
That's just my guess.

Not sure, some people are trying to port the camera app and other things, so, maybe it's possible...
Also I think the copy and paste thing wasn't just built-in to the browser, but available in most apps.

Yeah, I know... but that's why I'm asking
I still have a little hope, that a dev says, it's possible to implement something similar(doesn't have to be identical )...

[Q] Classic sense dialer with cyanogenmod

I'm running the latest cyanogenmod on my desire at the moment but the one thing i am missing about the classic htc sense OS is the dialer. I hate hate hate the built in one with cyanogenmod, and miss being able to link contacts, add their Facebook photos as callerid and having their Facebook status displayed when they call. I also miss having the ability to just start typing a name or a number and it searching.
I'm referring to this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
So what I am asking is; is there a way to make this happen?
Thanks in advance!
you MIGHT be able to get a theme to make it look similar to this, but you probably wouldn't get any of the functionality.
agreed
I'm with you 100% velk.
The dialer in the CM is garbage. I'm thinking of switching to MIUI.
I'm running cm6 nightly and I downloaded dialer one from the market , that's a great dialer.. Very similar to htc sense. Try that before switching roms.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Maybe try Dialer one in the market? Not as good as sense dialer but better than stock for sure.
haha, I happen to be the opposite, I'm trying to use aosp dialer on sense roms

haha lol~~
i love Sense dialer but yesterday i found a replacement on my OpenDesire. Try Youlu address book guys, its very clean!! and IMO, sense dialer challenger.
I'm on Cyanogen and I still have Facebook integration in the contacts list.
If you'd be interested, maybe we can write an app to replace the stock dialer... I'm in the process of trying to write a camera app to replace the stock one. I can definitely do the graphics for skinning the app... coding is a bit of another story ;D Might need a crutch for that.
Use Dialer One, as many ppl suggested. It works with no bugs, it is highly customizable and the developer is quite responsive.
I'm using Dialer One on CM 6.1 now, but is there any way to change the 'shortcut' of the standard dialer and make it point to Dialer One (or another dialer)?
I'm using Youlu Address Book and CM6.1 and what I did was dropped a shortcut to Youlu on the desktop, then if you pick it up and drop it in place, you can set a custom icon for it (I chose the phone icon from the Gingerbread icon pack I'm using for ADW Launcher). Then I dropped it down on the favorites bar.
Thanks, that did it! Didn't know the bottom bar was a favourites bar
Yeah, I just have my dialer, app drawer, and sms down there, the things I use the most

You know you can also expand it from 3 to 5 if you want to add a couple more apps.
Rocket dialer seems much better and great customazible
But sense from liberty rom is very nice

HTC Sense 2 (new) - REMAKE - is this possible? patch or mod?

New HTC Sense is great home screen, may be best. BUT it doesn't have important feature - editing count of widget grid.
By default in Sense we have 4x4 grid:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
This is example with 5x5 grid made in adw.launcher. See a lot of space for widgets
do not worry about "artifacts" on 2nd screenshot, its bug of screenshot software...
Well, i want widget grid resizing feature in new Sense, is that possible by creating some mode or patch?
It's a patch.
Forgot the name.
But doesn't work with HTC Sense.
Only works with stock android launcher if i'm right.
I mean not existing patch, i asked about creating this patch or editing sense resources
no new replies, i'm sad(
Sense is closed source. Without the source I don't think it's possible. Maybe it could be reverse engineered but there are also copyright issues.
Sent with Christmas cheer.
But in general, the OP has a very important point.
I dont use Sense UI simply because of the 4x Grid limitation. I usually go for 5 as well, since it gives me much more room for my important Shortcuts and Widgets.
If Sense UI had an option for something like this, I would prefer Sense UI, since its pretty beautiful in general.

thx for support, i'm totally agree with you
I would be nice to have the option in Sense but then you do get 7 screens which is surely enough to cram all your favorite widgets and shortcuts in?
Plus, more widgets usually means worse battery life, which isn't the DHD's strong point anyway.
Try an app called Apps Oraganizer, it lets you create custom shortcuts which when clicked pop up a box with whatever apps you want
You can use the Multicon Widget from AppBrain
It's one widget thet can hold number of incons.
It's a free app

ICS Motoblur Launcher!

Should work on any ICS ROM
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/ics-motoblur-launcher-on-any-phone/
Motoblur has gotten a bad rap in its earlier days as an OEM skin. Unlike early iterations of HTC Sense and TouchWiz that were bloated but still usable, MotoBlur was almost unanimously considered unusable. However, now that Motoblur has been streamlined and given far less bloat, it’s only fair that we give it another shot.
Users now have access to the newest iteration of Motoblur launchers thanks to XDA Senior Member RockoDev. Both launchers provided by the developer are for Ice Cream Sandwich phones only, and give users the Motoblur experience without actually needing to buy a Motorola device.
The launchers, based on files from the Motorola Droid RAZR, will give any phone running 4.0 and higher a chance to check out the newest Motoblur. Users simply need to download one of the two APKs and either ADB Push them to system or use their favorite root-enabled file manager to move it there manually. Reboot and voila!
For those who would rather not use ADB or a root file manager to deposit the system files, RockoDev has promised flashable zips in the near future, so simply check back every couple of days if you’d rather go that route. Of course these APKs are just launchers, and not the whole Motoblur experience, but we all know how much of an impact changing your launcher has.
Additional information, download links to both APKs, instructions, and screen shots can be found in the application thread.
