Hello, i'm looking for a metal back cover for the i9250.
The geniune backcover looks like crap plastic. :'(
Found this
http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300612551857
Asked to the seller, "it's PVC but looks like metal"
Anyone had found this?
Regards
It can't be metal. Not physically possible. Think how do you place plastic batt cover in to the nexus... You have to bend it slightly to fit it in properly....

Are all plastics bendable? Are all metals non-bendable?
Metal is bendable but in this case if you bend it it will stay that way more likely at least

A pure metal back could possibly make NFC useless since the antenna is right on the battery.

Dont most people put cases on their phones anyways? Who even looks at the back enough to matter? I know if I didn't have a case on my phone many times those countless falls from my lap getting out the car...
I'd love to see a black metal- or aluminium-back-cover on my SGN... but no luck finding one yet
would be great if anyone knows a link...
Imho those available for Galaxy SII (example) are amazing and are giving the phone a more valuable touch.
As for cases:
I wouldn't wrap my new car with a rubber or plastic shell so why would i my phone.
I'm the more "garage"-kind of guy and prefer (felt)-bags... (jm2c)

Yes I would much rather have no case on my phone because of the lighter slimmer feel, but I have yet to break a phone with a case on it. Ever since I got my OG Droid I have always put a case on my phone. I am sure I would of used many insurance claims over the years if I hadn't had a case on my phones. Plus it keeps my phone's body in better shape and less scratches. When you sell your phone every year to get a new one, its better to have it in good shape.
Does this mean better antenna/gps receptions???
/dream
you probably would not want this if you read about all the problems the ASUS transformer Prime is having with GPS, WIFI & BT - as it has a full metal cover.
I dont want to explain all this again, read this thread from page 3.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362524
understood the nfc problem, but i really dont care about nfc need a quality phone and the plastic is "crackling" makin me crazy
Quality phone? This is the most solid feeling Samsung phone they've ever made. No creaking on mine.
Much better structure than my Vibrant, but I still feel better with a case.

I found the back of my Galaxy Nexus to be a little too slippery, and I had a spare piece of 3M carbon fiber material laying around.
I decided to go ahead and cut it to fit my GN. No worries about that darn Verizon Wireless logo on the back now
I got the material from this guy: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=703496
That looks awesome lol. How thick is the carbon? Just like paper thin?

Yeah, it's very thin.
awesome.

Eh. I'm not allowed to look at that link yet... I hate being a noobie. lol That does look REALLY nice! I am going to have to do this also. Thanks!
I have that 3M too, but I am afraid the plastic battery cover might get weak since it needs to be heated to apply.. is it safe to blow dry the plastic battey cover based on your experience?

it doesnt need to be heated to apply, I had this carbon fiber on my T-mo GS2 and didnt require to doanything but just apply with solution and let it dry, but this doesnt protect your phone if it drops, so basically pointless, I rather get otterbox, but not sure if it works on gsm version, still puzzled here.
Pretty cool idea, I may look into this.
i am assuming you used 3M DI-NOC? does it stick well to the bumpy surface of the battery door?
Yes, 3M Dinoc and it seems to be holding just fine. I trimmed it just a little bit short but no heat was required just peel the back off and stick

I want to do this, but I'm going to try to cover the entire body of the phone
Just bought two 4" x 8" pieces for my phone off ebay for $1.98 shipped thanks!
keep us posted on how it holds up...i am probably going to do the same thing to mine!
Looks great. Might try this.
Holy crap that looks awesome

This does indeed look great. I just want and got some CF Vinyl online to do this myself! (Though I think I'll add an Autobots insignia to it as an homage to when this was the Prime XD)
That loos nice! Doubt i could get it looking that good, even if i had the materials.
I've never had any experience cutting or measuring out 3M DI-NOC. does it cut fairly easily? Any tips or anything to watch for when I make my attempt?
It cuts easily. Trace a pattern from your battery door onto the backing of the 3M then cut about 1mm inside of that all around. Use a sharp Xacto knife.

So I got a regular rubber case with my Nexus (assuming it would add the least amount of thickness) and I always use cases with my phones but I'm noticing that it really increases the thickness and feel of the phone, which I dislike.
How many of you are and aren't using cases and what is your reasoning for each?
Should I risk not using a case or should I just suck it up?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
I'm not using a case, and my only reasoning is that I haven't found one I like yet. This thing has flown out of my hands inadvertently so many times, I will probably be getting the sylicrilic from VZW just to have something on it until I find what I'm looking for. If I can ever figure out what that is.
I just ordered the Diztronic TPU that everyone is talking about. Hopefully I'll like that one better than the one that I got from Verizon earlier today...
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
No case for me yet. I also haven't found one I like. I'm really attracted to the nekkid look though.
I'm generally a nekkid guy. Dropped my precious today and the plastic back is VERY susceptible to scratches. Reconsidering my no case choice but love this phone as is.

I use a case but...
A scratch on the body won't bother me as much as a scratch on the glass, so I would definitely use a SP if nothing else, but that's just me.
But I want mine in pristine condition for when I sell it and get my Galaxy Note II
I'm definitely getting a case. I never did mind a bulky phone ( I used to have a n900 with an otterbox on.. That thing was a tank, in both size and durability)
Got a case.
This phone with such a large glass and slender body to go along with it feels like it would fall apart if I ever dropped it. Maybe it isn't so but handling something this expensive/large/slender needs some protection for me to freely use it with peace of mind.
I'm using a temporary Case-Mate Barely There case along with no screen protector right now and I'm very antsy when handling my phone. So much so that it's a hassle.
Got the Diztronic case too and will be using Ghost Armor when they finally have the product line.
I had my wife buy the phone AND an Otterbox when she went to vzw... I have had OBs on all my phones and will keep doing so. Sure you can get it cheeper online but I pulled the phone out of the box put the 4g card on then put it in th OB!!!! And that is where it will stay!!!
I don't care about maintaining the cheap plastic backplate much to justify for a case, but I got myself a Silicone case from Verizon anyway because I don't want to scratch the camera lense when laying the phone on the table.
Diztronic rocks. I have a bse full body shield on and the case fits with that too. Scratch proof and protected. Love it

This. Otterbox is the only case I trust my devices in. Had one for my OG and iPod and I recommend them to everyone. Already have the commuter for the SGN and I won't even get the phone till Christmas! I'm ocd about keeping my devices pretty.

heres one thing i don't get from you guys that go naked. what about the effin camera in the back!? you realize every time you place it on a surface you're landing it flat on the plastic of the camera?
I never wanted to go no case but since my Desire, I've preferred the pouches just because it doesn't add to the size of the phone, and then you don't have to worry about anything hitting it. But I think this phone is just too large to use a pouch with. I bought a Nokia-brand pouch that fits my Nexus, but it hangs out the top by half a centimetre. Not a problem because it's not loose in the case itself, but it's still not the best situation.
One of the main reasons why I prefer the pouches is because then I don't have to worry about a screen protector, but I've already got a nick on my Nexus' glass, so I'll probably wear an SP and a case all the time.

i've never used one of these, just looked into it, cause you posted it. Going to have to look into it more now.
good choice. i expect this case to b great because their silicon cases are the best to me. they just stretch after awhile. like any other silicone. but that case isn't rubber. btw, Rearth reached out to me and let me know the case fits both GSM and LTE models.
I dropped my phone within 24 hours of getting it. It left 2 quite big marks on the body. The plastic body is pretty soft and can be easily damaged.
I now have a replacement and put in case striaght away. But it does feel so much slimmer and nicer without a case
do you find excessive dust with an otterbox? seems like my G-nex is totally prone to dust. otherwise i love the case, makes the phone a little easier actually for me to hold without getting the feeling like it might just slip out of my hand.
BSE body skin and XO skin screen cover here.
Has anyone bought and tried out this casing? It's a aluminium bumper, just like those for iphones. Looks interesting although that front bezel is over pronounced imo. If you anyone has bought this maybe a short review and some pictures will be greatly appreciated.

Wowie! Looks great. Too pricey for me though to try to find out whether it'll fit the VZW version..
I thought 35 wasn't too bad considering the fact that I had a friend who paid 130 for an element case for the iPhone. Lol
I'm using a GSM phone with standard battery and I have a friend whose using VZ LTE with extended so ill definitely let you guys know how it fits!
If anything, it does seem like the full battery cover is exposed so I would assume the extended batteries would fit. That's also another plus for me since I swap out with ebay batteries when I'm running low!

Pictures would be sweet man. Only thing holding me back is that, what seems to be enormous bezel on the front.

yeah, I agree.. looks like it adds a good 3mm "lip" on the front...
those are over priced, I get them for USD 15 over in china.
Looks pretty cool. I'd be interested how they look and fit on the VZ w/o extended battery.
Ordered as soon as I saw this post, and it FINALLY came in today!
It does add a bit of bulk and weight, but it feels pretty sweet!
My favorite thing about this case though is the fact that the battery door is exposed so I can easily remove the back cover and swap out batteries without taking the whole case off!
With that said, there's definitely a good chance that the extended battery would fit, but the case is pretty fitted on GSM so I honestly don't think it will fit the VZ LTE model.

it dosen't look like anything can be damaged as it has a large lip and nothings outwardly exposed
How about the back part? is it thick enough so nothing can scratch it?
looking good, but yeah i want more pics >< especially that front bezel. also how indent are those power buttons and volume rocker? any negative aspects of the case?

This guy got one yesterday too.
He has extended battery and verizon phone and claims it works. He did need new screws.
He also had an issue with the headphone jack being too deep, and he needed to buy new ones from radio shack.
Thanks for the review though!
Redirecting everything to here now. Thank you.
I'm on a REALLY tight budget, and I've found this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Aluminum-Bu...VG/ref=sr_1_67?ie=UTF8&qid=1352551327&sr=8-67
Has somebody tried it before? Do the cover-buttons have a good response (is much more force needed to make them "click")? Any suggestions?
while it might provide a unique look to your phone, i'm not sure how much 'protection' a metal bumper will give.
once that aluminum meets concrete, it'll scratch/dent and it wont look as pretty.
I had an Element Case Vapor AR15-V when it was released for the iP4. I loved the look but it killed my reception..
I don't think/know if the S3 would fall victim to such an issue..

The aesthetic side of it is of no importance for me. On the reception issue, it was reportedly due to the antenna being linked to a section of the metal frame the iPhones had, so no problem here regarding the S3 i pressume.

Edit: I've seen these (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Urban-Armor...3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1352595740&sr=1-3) around, and although they seem quite nice, they surpass my budget right now. Any cheaper version of sorts? I think composite could do the trick just as fine.
Does anybody know something similar to the Urban Armor Gear (cheaper and less fancy) that could be of use?
i've always wondered if those slide on thing in the front actually stays on properly or not... I kinda prefer to have the screw on type... i think it's kinda cool.. the only thing I worry about is I don't know if the camera lens would get scratched when i place it on the back.

I have used one (not on my personal phone but a friend of mine has one) It does the job well and it looks cool (white note with a black bumper)
My only concern is that metal does not absorb and dissipate shock all that well, so it may transfer the shock of a fall to the phone? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks for the info, was not really thinking along the lines of dropping my phone by accident your right about the bumper not absorbing an impact. I currently have a capdase case (the one with the metal back and rubber insert) and I have dropped my phone countless times. Has any1 got amy suggestions of a premium case that looks great and protects your phone.

I don't think you can get more premium looking than capdase. Remember it's all down to personal preference, I may think the otterbox commuter case looks good but to another it may look like a brick.
Here are some of the ones I like:
http://www.amazon.com/Fosmon-Rubber...8&qid=1363011421&sr=1-2&keywords=n7000+fosmon
http://www.amazon.com/Carbon-Silver...d=1363011447&sr=1-6&keywords=n7000+metal+case
http://www.amazon.com/OtterBox-77-1...qid=1363011512&sr=8-1&keywords=n7000+otterbox
The king of protection, I can personally vouch for:
http://www.amazon.com/OtterBox-Defe...11616&sr=1-2&keywords=n7000+otterbox+defender
My note fell down a flight of metal stairs in that case, not a problem with it, or the case.
