i got wm6 black and once i open SMS up..
the soft key on the left handside is "delete" i wanted to chante to "new"
can someone tell me how to do that please?
thanks.
This is asked for in another thread as well, but not answered I'm afraid. Seems like it's hardcoded in tmail.exe, so there's no way to change it like a normal softkey or in the registry or something.
The delete button is bugging me as well...
I have been searching for this in the registry but i can't find it. I want to change this softkey to new as it used to be in WM5, as it easier to press the softkey then go through the menus while in the car.
If any of the gurus out there can help out on this one..........................
There is a work around with this, if you use the softkey changer and apply one of your soft keys in the today screen to New SMS it will take you directly to a new SMS message. I don't you will find the solution that you are looking for without alot of trial and error. This might help in the mean time.
As Video calling has been disabled in the new WM6 Roms i have used the Video calling button on the Uni as the 'new' key which does get me around but its still so annoying where i am so used to pressing this button when looking at other messages to create new messages and now when i press it it asks if i want to delete the txt.

Your Welome!
I agree that it's frustrating that they changed the key to delete. I personally delete very few messages, and if I do I delete a whole batch of them in one go, the new button is one which I use MUCH more than delete.
Anyway, I was wondering if you might be able to help me with another issue which I'm having. When I open a message (email or text) it jumps down to the bottom of the page. Has anyone else experienced this, or is it just me?

This is asked for like 100 times, just use the search function on this beautiful forum, and your answer will be served right at your computer monitor
it's D-pad option in Pimp i enable.
Turn it off and it will fix that issue..
it shoudl be under the IE tab...

My guess is that this was a customer-driven change requested by some of the huger Windows Mobile customers.
I'm not sure what is your background, but I am a "corporate type" and I receive about 100-200 messages per day in my Activesync inbox. I usually reply to messages rather than writing new ones.
I use the Delete key MUCH more frequently than the New key so this is a welcome change for me. Most messages are FYIs or system notification messages, or long threads (and I can read just the last message in the thread and then toss all earlier messages).
Have you changed the size of your scroll bars? if so change them back to default (13) i think.

Here's another preformatted shortcut. I found the one attached by Mike in post #6 just opened my Inbox. It was easily modified using the link he provided, but for the lazy ones among us! This one opens a new (blank) SMS, tested on my Exec running Jwrightmcps Crossbow ROM Update 2.02.02 WWE.
Unzip the file, and copy it to wherever you want on your device.

This only start the messaging application and go into the SMS view.
It doesn't start a new SMS ; at least not with my Schap's ROM with SMS/MMS combined.
EDIT: Works with the new .lnk file ; Thanks !
Thank you Mike the link to the Modaco site was the solution I was looking for. I created that sms.lnk shortcut and then assigned it as a softbutton on my today screen, now with one click I have a blank SMS ready for sending. Works like a charm.
Hi,
I am looking to find a simple utility that would send a pre-defined Birthday / Anniversary sms to my contact based on the dates already available in Windows Mobile Contact information.
I have tried searching on this forum and on the net but to no luck. Does anyone know of any such software. The closest I could get was RJ SMS Scheduler but it requires us to feed in a schedule. I wish to find something that can look up the contact list and pick dates itself.
Thanks,
Umesh

Message taken! you could say I am lazy, unintentionally though, mostly due to lack of time. Intentionally, I would like not to miss a single event of the 400+ contacts I have on my phone list.
Can only imagine how glad they would be to hear from me on their special days and how happy I would be to know that I would never miss any good wishes for any of my good friends.

I checked this software but it is quite similar to so many others available on net. It requires us to set up a schedule to send the sms to particular contacts.
Instead I am suggesting the app could pick dates itself from the Window Mobile's Contact List and send sms from templates, we create and save in there. This way we do not have to add birthdates / anniversaries to Contact List and then set up another scheduled sms through a third party application for our purpose.
I hope I have managed to explain what I am looking for.
Thanks,
Umesh.
Ah, I see what you're asking for now. I don't know of anything that can do that, but it would be a good idea!
Any thoughts from anyone else to share knowledge of such an application ?
Thanks.
Not that easy
I'm looking for such application since a long time, but no luck. The application should also consider the following requirements:
MUST HAVE:
- choose the correct phone number, cuz the text messages should be sent only if a mobile number is available for the specific contact;
NICE TO HAVE:
- built the text message with a variable string where automatically should put the name of the contact;
- should have the possiblity of exclude some contacts from the auto-SMS in order to avoid sending the pre-configured SMS to your girlfriend for example
Will see if someone can manage it in the future.
P.S.: I have more that 400 birthday to remember
Ciao!

Thanks Mohit for putting this together. I've set it on my system though had some issues with display on Touch HD but was able to use the controls and set it up. Couple of questions that I had in mind -
1. Does it have to be left running at all times or can I at least shove it off my running task list.
2. Every time I add a new contact and his / her birthday do I have to update this software too to add the new contact to it's list.
But otherwise it seems to be a nice piece of work.
Thanks,
Umesh.

Hi Umesh,
Thanks,
well no need to keep it running as i am using notification que to run it at the designated time. like an alarm. so u can just exit after setting up every thing from options->save n exit
and about updating new contact u just need to open the app and click options-> "add contacts bday", it will automatically fetch the new one and update it. also it will remember the last message u had set up.
i email HTC to ask if the voice to text feature was disabled on the Sim Free version of the Desire and this is the response i got....
Thank you for your enquiry about voice to text.
Well the device does have voice to search via Google, so it should do. The only thing is you'll probably have to install some apps from market on the Device, hope this helps..

So any one with the desire ATM does the above work? (i.e voice to search) i find the answer vague so i have asked for a yes or no answer to the question i asked. i quoted the desirehtc website where it states this feature will be available.
if anyone else has emailed HTC on this subject i would be interested in the response you got.
UPDATE
HTC have now resopnded with a Simple "NO" you will have to use a 3d party App.
no voice search here.
cos it's using the HTC IME, it is missing the microphone key that you get on the Android keyboard to use the voice to text functions.
whoever answered that at HTC obviously didn't have one to hand to check and was probably looking at the nexus....
Afternoon all,
After enabling the 'Voice to Text' as shown on How To Enable Voice To Text using one of the links on page 2 I have now got Google search by voice working on a T-Mobile Desire.
You don't have to change over to using the android keyboard if you don't want to use the main voice to text functionality, but now pressing and holding the search button brings up a pop-up on screen with 'Speak Now - Google Search' and a microphone symbol.
Seems to work fine to me.
works fine for me too.
Maybe it's coming in another update, this is from the htc website desirehtc dot com
" Android 2.1...
What's that all about then?
Launched in January 2010, and known in the trade as Eclair, this is basically an update to the operating system. In laymans terms, it's a sexier looking interface. But it's not quite that simple.
Now, for example, your Wallpapers can be animated, injecting your screen with a new lease of life. This works particularly well with the AMOLED screen.
Rather excitingly, it brings us into a realm where voice-to-text is a reality in all text fields. Imagine sending texts or emails simply by talking to your phone. Now do it, we're there. "
I'm sorry but voice search has always been there...

Cheers mate... great help, 1 more reason 2 love Desire...
Back to my orignal post.....
HTC tell me the voice - search is available by default (i.e not installing any other SW) they say it has to be enabled in settings then it work when using the search key/menu?
any one confirm this?
Actually, I also got a similar answer from HTC. I'm from Singapore though. Thus, most likely it is an unlocked version. My question was:
"Does the HTC Desire support the speech-to-text function out of the box? Does it also support AVI files? Thank You."
This is what i got.
"Thanks for contacting HTC.
For HTC Desire, it does have the function for Speech-to-text, but it doesn't support AVI file.
Thank you for your continuous support of our products and services. Should you require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again.
We look forward to be of service to you again."
From this reply, it seems obvious what the answer is. But the truth, from those who already got the phone, are far from it. I had specifically said out of the box. But, as told by owners, you need to download apps and everything for this function. Just FYI, I do not own the Desire...yet XD
HTC says NO! to voice enabled in default.
I miss the ability to type someone's name and have it quickly find their number. CAn this be done in CyanogenMod 6?
I don't think so. Download Dialer One.
BB15, Thank you. That's perfect.

You can always use the search button on the bottom right. Start typing the contacts name and the matching contacts pop up as you type

This thread has got me thinking. I like to avoid redundancy. For the second time in a week I have stopped using an app I've loved for 6 months. I'm going without Dialer One until further notice. Follow my tweets for updates on my Dialer One status.. kidding..
I knew in the back of my mind a search would include your phones content.. and I long press and voice dial frequently but I hadn't thought of tapping search and swyping a contacts name to call them. FYI, tap your contacts' icon not their info.
nvm, wrong thread, sorry

I am using SwiftKey Beta (available in the market). Works great and offers suggestions for the next word too!
One feature that I missed, coming from HTC phones, to Samsung, was the ability to block callers in Contacts.
You must be rooted. Navigate to /system/csc, and select feature.xml.
Scroll to the "Contacts" section, and change this line from this:
<CscFeature_Contact_DisableMenuAddToRejectList>true</CscFeature_Contact_DisableMenuAddToRejectList>
to this:
<CscFeature_Contact_DisableMenuAddToRejectList>false</CscFeature_Contact_DisableMenuAddToRejectList>
Save, exit,
Make sure permissions are set to: rw-r--r--,
and reboot.
In Contacts, select a contact, press menu. "Add to reject list" should now be an option.
has anyone played with blocking mode. (menu.settings.blocking mode)a bit more of a pita to set up but has pretty neat additional features.

GREAT FIND. Seriously, I also came from HTC and was blown away to find that this very simple feature of send to voice mail wasn't available. I followed your method only to find out that Josh already changed it in the ROM. I never thought to check for the option cause you were the first to mention the fix that I have heard yet to date. So thanks for looking out and finding this. If you know of any other features that can be modified with this method par post them up. I will shoot you some thanks when my counter re-sets for the day.
Thanks for the feedback. Im slowly going through all of the disabled settings, as I find time. I'm still new at this, so the process is kind of slow. But, yeah, I agree, some of the things I took for granted with HTC, are completely missing, or disabled with the Note.

Sure it was Sprint and not Samsung? Maybe Samsung did it in order to shine light on their Block Mode?
Cause My Evo was obviously a Sprint phone and had this option so did my Palm Pre

Good point. The reason I blamed Sprint, is because the setting was disabled in CSC. I just assumed that stood for 'Carrier Specific Customization'. When the first version of the LK8 leak first dropped, the rom contained other carriers csc folders. I think I remembered the option enabled through other carriers, but I may be remembering wrong.
