Hi is there anyone working on a hotspot hack for ei22,I am stock rooted and would like sprint hotspot for my device with working 3g and 4g.I know I have the option of using wireless tether app but it makes my phone hot or restarts my phone after about 15 min of usage. I believe this would be the better option for tethering.Any help would be greatly appreciated

Biggoron is correct, only deodexed ROMs can get the hotspot hack and no one is working on trying to make it work on an odexed ROM currently. You would need to use Barnacle or Wireless Tether for that.

No not necessarily,I heard that odex was the best as far as how the phone operates and responds from my knowledge. And also Im not sure how the recovery process would go changing my android system between the two, would mybackpro work and things like that with a backup and restore with that app,or would the recovery process be different. And also what about the modems and kernel flashes would I have to switch those as well to be on deodex? Im not to familiar with the process because to be honest I choose to stick with stock as much as possible,it seems like people run into problems flashing different kernels and things like that. That's why I was hoping for a odex since im still stock rooted

Hahaha I've heard of more problems on stock than on a custom rom regaurdless. You have a custom recover no? Its quite simple make a backup of your current rom pick a rom and kernel of your choice wipe data, cache, dalvik and flash your new rom and kernel. Boot it up make sure its all good and go back into cwm and go to restore and advance restore your data. If you get any fc's clear that apps data. About the modems.... it all depends on what works best for your phone people like ei22 because its newest but if you have signal issues on there you can just use a different there are a bunch ec05,eg22,ef02, eeo3 etc etc no one modem is best but others work well with certain people. And your not changing you android system unless your flashing an Android Open Source Porject or aosp like cm7/miui.

And feel free to ask more questions here about it or PM any one of us. We are glad to help!
Nice job Biggie.
And the great thing is.... if you do run into problems with the rom you flashed you can always restore the backup of your stock rooted rom with cwm! So no worries at all because it is all reversable!

what? doing the nand backup? that's just in case the kernel doesn't work you can restore to the previous condition your phone was in (so do it before you flash baked's kernel)
I'm not sure if his kernels will work on other roms though, I think I tried once
I've used it on my ROM what ROM are you using that might help.

Yes the kernel can help with battery life. You should be ok with flashing a different kernel and that ROM but as posted do a NAND backup before flashing the kernel.

My question is how do I flash just the kernel? i have never flashed anything before and I just backed up everything with rom manager. thanks!!!

Wipe cache, wipe dalvic, flash like you would a Rom. Don't forget to nand first.
Sent from my blah blah blah blah
Edit - I'm assuming there's a specific kernel you have that you want to flash, and you didn't mean how to extract the kernel from a full Rom - also just noticed that you said you already backed up with rom manager. You may want to consider backing up manually through recovery or using amonra instead - nobody seems to know what exactly rom manager wipes when you tell it to wipe.

i think you're misinformed (or haven't searched hard enough) - most, if not all, sense based ROMs have everything working and some (i.e. wireless/usb tether, performance/efficiency tweaks, etc.). it's the cm/aosp roms that don't have everything working (yet).
flashing kernels is similar to flashing roms. there is a plethora of threads on the topic. read some of the stickies and many of your questions will be answered to get you started with flashing roms/kernels.

here you go:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=653
all roms are there. aosp roms are usually the roms where everything is not working.
general steps to flashing (but always read the post from the developer for any special instructions):
1. download file to sd card
2a. get into recovery (either via quickboot app or via powering down then holding volume down button while powering up)
2b. navigating in recovery - volume keys to change selection, power button to select
3. nand backup
4. wipe data, cache and dalvik (only wipe cache and dalvik if you're flashing a kernel)
5. flash the rom/kernel you downloaded
6. reboot
7. drink beer
if something goes wrong, get back into recovery and restore your nand backup.
hope this gets you started.... but read, read, read.
good luck.
sorry OP - back on topic. did you wipe cache and dalvik before flashing the kernel? what's your up time and awake time (found in settings>about phone>battery). do you have any monitoring apps installed (i.e. system panel, android system info? you may have rogue app.

Every non-Aosp rom I've ever flashed (Acs, bonsai, midnight, simply aosp, viper, et..) have always ended up freezing and forcing me to remove the battery to re-boot, I've followed instructions, re-downloaded the roms etc. CM7 and MIUI, both Aosp, have never had that problem, always flashed right the first time, never had to flash twice. I guess I'm just curious if anyone can explain why aosp roms work fine (minus mms, 4g, and the other aosp bugs) and every rom based off of official releases always seem to end up failing?

If you are following instructions to the point in ROM guides, I have no idea. Sorry. But more specifics on your problems would help us help you
Its because most of the non aosp roms are backing up and restoring your data. If your coming from a clean flash you have to flash the rom twice before it will boot up properly.

Haha you're not the only one! On DK28 I had to flash twice everytime! And then for a little while on EB13. I don't know what changed though. But I havent had to do it for a longtime. Maybe it's because I never boot into stock before flashing?
It mainly jas to do with us having a crappy recovery.

I experience this to an extent as well.. w/ SRF 1.0.2 it flashes first time and works flawlessly..
What I've found is that all devices aren't created equal. Some work really well others are finicky.
What I've found that works for me is immediately after a flash, I can tell if it's gonna be wonky or work. After the flash, if it 'delays' before popping back up to the recovery menu, it's gonna fail. If the recovery menu pops up right away I'm good.
When it 'fails'.. I'll reboot system.. on the white samsung screen, pull the battery. boot back into recovery, then re-flash. boot system if it doesn't auto boot and you're good.
Not sure why it's like this, but it works for me. MY device doesn't always play nice w/ every version of every ROM and rather than whining in all of the ROM threads about why the rom sucks and I can't use it.. I've figured out a way to use them through troubleshooting and process of elimination using some of the 'fixes' that are posted in the different threads.
all Epics are not created equal. Just gotta figure out what works for yours.
EDIT: now that I think about it, (not that it's a big deal) I'm gonna go find noobnl's thread about checking for bad blocks on the ONEnand... just curious if journaling is trashing my NAND (I don't think it is, but ya never know)
EDIT: Still only 3 bad blocks. Nothing to worry about for me

That's not true. He mentioned Simply which I know for a fact doesn't backup/restore data.
1.) Odin back to EC05
2.) Re-root and Install CWM3
3.) Let it convert you to EXT4
4.) Upgrade to CWM 3.0.2.5
5.) Wipe data.
6.) Go to Advanced/Mounts and hit Format /system
7.) Flash the rom of your choice
8.) If it fails again wipe data x3 and then system x3 for good measure, try try again.
Hope that helps.

Moved to Q&A.
Ive tried 3 times to switch to mtd heres my steps I must be doing something wrong please point it out for me.
Step 1: odin to deodexed/rooted ec05
Step 2: eco5 modem to ei22 converted
step 3: upgrade to newest cwm5
step 4: Wipe data/cache/delvik 3x
step 5: Install MTD Clean rom/ Also tried CM7
Outcome: first seems fine restarts back to cwm5 Im assuming that means its converted to mtd? (should i reflash rom after restart to cwm5?) Then I reboot system and the screen just stays black nothing happens waited forever forceing me to odin again and repeat the steps with no luck over and over again. I have also tried installing clean rom + a different MTD Kernal. Still just a black screen buttons lit up and no sign of life I waited nearly half an hour leaving the phone like this and nothing happened.
Odin is a pain it takes 5 failured to reodin I figured id ask the pros since i want MTD and need to figure this out. Please tell me im missing something obvious and make it a simple solution lol Thanks for your help.
When you flash an MTD ROM, the phone will restart during the flash and should reboot and continue to install. Once that is done it should say install successful in CWM. Is it doing that?
I install in cwm5 it shuts off reboots back to cwm5 and thats it at that point i find myself lost and reboot to system and get black screen. Do my steps look right nothing special i have read all comments and see no issues so i feel pretty slow because i never have these problems and couldnt find a similar one.
If it helps me explain better when i installed CM7 I got as far as the CM7 loading screen and then it froze. So I tried to wipe then install clean MTD to see if it would load either and got black screen right after CM7 logo......Ill try again in a minute I just want someones help first before I try again. Then i will post new info about my issue if it continues and we can figure out what im missing.
When you odin you says it fails? You need a better cable also you converted to mtd but it won't boot so when you go back to stock you need to repartition so have that checked. Also don't go back to stock rooted go back to official stock ec05 not anything but that please. Then once done flash in a custom recovery and flash the ei22 modem conversion and finally wipe data cache and dalvik *once* and flash the mtd rom. Then it will reboot almost half way through and then it should say install complete and it will reboot your system.

Ok im going again to try after reading your post ill edit this reply with my outcome after my attemp Im using my 4g for internet so it will take a few minutes to get back here to respond.
Ok ive tried it all nothing helps reflashed on MTD even still boots back to cw5.
I did however download from the xda app I seen some threads on this. Is it possible thats the reason? I usually download roms from it and they work fine but my 16gb is running low. Im going to try again from a laptop download then transfew to microsd on sd adapter and see. I tried it all how do i check md5?
Also i was trying to flash cm710 so im not sure if that has a issue but ill try not downloading from XDA app because im really tired of starting from scratch with this phone. sm7 i see boot logo and resets to cwm5 Clean MTD i see only black screen and it resets to cwm5.
I had to do a factory data reset right before flashing CM7 otherwise I also got stuck at the circle load thingie.

It was probably some bad downloads. If you want to try CM7 I only was able to get it to flash with a Factory Data reset prior to flashing it. You should grab one of the nightlies from 10 and up with the working 4G toggle.
Well i was dedicated to resolving this after realizing sleeperrom mtd and Marcusant MTD had broken wifi when 4g was enabled. So yeah i resolved the issue by downloading with dolphin browser mini worked like a charm for some reason that browser is the only reliable one for me to download roms. Switched to clean gb 4g wifi hotspot is perfect. Also if anyone knows if hotspot with 4g is broken in cm7 mtd what tether app with 4g tether will work with an epic?

Tried reboot. No luck.
Used ACS Recovery to do a pre-ROM wipe before flashing the new ROM.
Can't post in developers forum yet, so hopefully someone here can help. I read every page and every entry in the applicable forum for the ROM I flashed, but no one reported this problem or solutions.
Any ideas? I'd rather not have to flashback to stock or whatever. I've seen plenty of helpful posts for other bugs in the ROM. Just nothing for this. HELP!

Backup that rom... flash a different rom... if bluetooth works then its that rom... btw I would strongly suggest not using acs recovery... use cwm 5.0.2.7... it is the officially supported recovery for our epics! Also acs does not play well with mtd roms so that may be your problem!

Bah humbug acs not play well with mtd blah!
I used it to convert to mtd when cyanogen first came and it worked just fine...... acs not the problem because even if he was on bml cwm5 before flashing he would have the same results.
Please stop blaming that recovery ^^

Maybe it worked for YOU but it is highly recommended to use CWM 5.027 to convert and note that if you want to convert and restore nandroid data it must come from 5.027.

I'm pretty sire recoveries don't differ from phones... software is software its not a hardware difference just saying. How is your day going kenny?

Ah always better after you brighten my day Biggie...lol.
BTW you know software is what drives the hardware. So any flash can go wrong at some point whether Odin, CWM, ACS, or Bonsai Recovery. Just sayin'...LOL. How you been?

GRRRR.... oh me I'm good I see what your saying but how would be able to flat out blame that software for all you know it was the rom .... okay end of argument no reason to keep up this fiasco anyways I'm not saying to not use the official cwm I'm just saying you can't blame the issue on the recovery... I've had tons of bluetooth issues concerning kernels never the recovery

I agree...just trying to narrow down the possibilities. Probably just needed to delete some bluetooth data files. I forget which ones force the bluetooth database to rebuild.

BRICKED
Thank u all for the replies. I DID use ACS to do the pre-rom wipe, but I thought CWM got changed afterwards, somewhere in the process of flashing the new ROM, etc. Funny that several of you mentioned the possibility of that being the issue. I went to boot into recovery to check, and my phone bricked. #*(#@$%&. So, I had to odin back to stock and then root again, then use Titaniun just to get to my pre-ROM settings. I'm just gonna go without the custom ROM for now.

You mean sponged, not bricked. As long as there is life you are not bricked. Just grab the official CWM 5.027 and flash that. When doing conversions like that don't use ROM Manager and all should be well. When in doubt, wipe wipe wipe.
My note has been laggy as hell lately it started a few days ago and I'm not sure why I was on goodness rom the went to Jedi x16 and am now on pacman as of today and every last one of the ROMs have the same problem force closes and freezing a lot no matter what I'm doing and YouTube is choppy also my battery doesn't charge like it used to I'll be getting the note 3 whenever it comes out in the next few months but I want this phone as my backup and as of now its the only phone I have and I need help any would be much appreciated thanks in advance I'm pretty much a noob just throwing that out there
Do you do a clean wipe every time you install a new rom? Clean wipe cache, dalvik, data, system, internal sd? Try downloading rom thru pc then transfer to your sd.

Yeah its weird I always do a clean wipe even when they say its unnecessary but the phone started acting up a few days ago I think it may have been after I restored to one of my old ROMs and from there the phone has just been acting really crazy its very annoying it happens most when I try to use internet app though I noticed

What kernels are you using? Are you using set Cpu? Trickster mod? At the same time? I use set Cpu for the power profile. But for undervolt i use trickster. Or try to just use one and uninstall the other.

Ok. Have you tried a different kernel? I tend to stay with T-Mobile based roms.

I would definitely try a different kernel. Maybe your phone can only handle stock kernels or something which Jedi doesn't use. Having a CM kernel still lingering through a flash while running Jedi can't be too good either, it's possible that's what happened? Go back to just stock rooted and see if the problem remains.

Its really weird because this has never happened before I've also never flashed a kernel my friend always scares me saying that its the most dangerous thing to do when rooting but do you have a suggestion thanks in advance
I already made a suggestion, go back to stock rooted.

Lol sorry about that I'm really not sure what stock rooted would be is there a ROM for it like I said I'm extremely noobish and don't really know Mich beyond flashing my friend rooted my phone for me again I'm sorry
I think your better off letting your friend handle it. I dont want to suggest anything at all if you don't know what you are doing.

Sorry for the late reply but my friend is in the army he doesn't really have much time to help me with this so any suggestions I wouldn't blame you in the least if something went wrong

That's where you will find a stock ROM. Flash the factory image with Odin. If you don't know what stock is or how to flash a kernel it's best to go back to stock and don't run custom ROMS. Just read the thread I linked and post any questions about the process in that thread.
You can flash the factory image using Mobile Odin from the Play Store and there's an option to keep root.

Are you running custom kernels that are overclocked? Maybe your phone can't handle the overclock anymore.... it happens
