HTC EVO Otterbox Defender Ships 11/15. "Hold on to your butts"

WELL HERE YOU GUYS GO!
Still not sure if this will play out as it says but I am hoping that it does!
Also Best Buy took the Otterbox Defender down from their site. As to why I am in the dark as much as you guys!
Still 11/15 at least we have a small chance and a glimmer of hope!

what the heck is a protective membrane?
just a fancy way of saying screen protector?

Hopefully the Kraken comes out first...I really need a new case, this Seidio Rugged is a POS
I'd probably buy this if it beats Kraken, though Kraken is my 1st choice. I've heard mixed reviews about Fommy though...

Is that Phil the Kraken?

That is the same release date as the Ballistic case(I just got off the phone with them). So its going to be a decision of which one people like the most, and not which is released first...

I like having my camera lens and ports covered. Are they covered with the Ballistic. Either way though, it is a tough looking case!

man, just had a look at the ballistic case. that is one ugly looking thing! still, nice to have choices. i'm sure someone somewhere will think it looks cool. personally i think the Commuter is a great case, unless you are a tree trimmer or a utility pole worker, the Defender is overkill in my opinion. Would be nice to have a holster though..

haha, the Ballistic case is uglier than 3 mofos, but usually the ugly stuff is what works best.

I thought the same thing when I purchased my trident case, now 2 weeks later I am wishing I held out for an otterbox.
I feel like the case does not offer much protection for the amount of bulk it adds considering I had to remove the screen protector in order to be able to use the whole keyboard in portrait mode.
I will be buying an Otterbox when they come out.

Same here. The Trident case would be perfect if the screen protector was better. It scratches easily. I am going to remove the built in protectector and put one of my Realook protectors on.
As far as Otterbox...I'm disappointed that they waited so long to do this. Most of us have had the Vibrant since this summer. I have a Case-Mate & Trident. Now I'm wondering if I even need the otterbox (even though it DOES look sweet!).

Yea, I mean ... it's not a big deal that it has a small little hole for the FFC.
Also, if you look at the case for the Galaxy S and Vibrant, they look identical. Maybe because since it's not available yet they just used the same picture of the case to give us an idea of what it'll look like .

It looks as tho it may just be a separate screen protector they are talking about. Because in the pics they show of it , it doesn't appear to have on attached to the case itself

This is exactly what I need!..seeing as how I just dropped mine and cracked the screen :-(

Just purchased..will submit a review when it gets here some time next year...im currently using the body glove case...nice case..but i have dropped it twice and the whole thing fell apart, damaging the phone..whats the point of a case if it cant take damage? i wouldve much rather spend the 30 bux on something like this otterbox if it was available at the time..Cheers all!

Took less than 10 seconds to open a new tab, type "otterbox" into siad new tab's address bar, hit ctrl+enter, then select Samsung, and then Vibrant from their dropdown menu and view the item of your desire. I would have posted the link, but since this is only my 3rd post I am not allowed to. Have fun storming the castle!

I have had one of these cases before for the HTC Touch HD and it was the best case i ever owned. I also had a similar but cheap one from ebay for my Desire HD and It was a piece of crap. I now have the SGS3 and bought the official flip cover....guess what! Its as usefull as a condom with a hole in it. Itll [email protected]#k my phone quicker than any of the others I've had. I'm willing to pay a little extra and protect my investment, it's not compulsary for you to do the same.

Wow, its the only one I've seen so far that hinges at the top... I wish more flip cases hinged from the top, hate those that hinges from the bottom and sides

Piel Frama cases are beautiful. Worth every penny. Plus they do custom cases.

Have you had a look? the cheap ones really aren't worth the postage, let alone the cost of the case!!
If you spend all that money on a phone (even if its free on contract, which is not really free at all) then surely a few quid extra is worth it

why would you want to buy these kind of cases....I mean...look at it!
They'll make any beautiful phone like the S3 look hideous, plus the fact that they are unbelievably uncomfortable...

yeah, no I get that! I mean, people have their own preferences.
But...stil...your ruining the looks of the phone!!!

Still waiting for delivery of this case. They had none in stock and quoted 10 days delivery time. Tempted to get a cheapo thing but since I ordered 6 days ago I might as well wait now. I will post a review (subjective as personal reviews always are) of my experience with as soon as I can.

No Otterbox for our Nexus5

I want to inform you that I just had a little talk with someone from Otterbox.
I asked him if they were planning make a case for the Nexus 5. After disappearing for 10 minutes he just told me that they are not planning on making a case for that device!
Too bad! My colleague has it on his Iphone and my mom on her S4, and I think Otterbox cases are great.
Any recommendation for something similar? I'm pretty rough with my phones :/

Trident cases are better in every way, well known with those who use such cases. Also, I would trust nothing that *someone at Otterbox* told you. Odds are, they were talking out of their ass unless you happen to know someone in the RnD department.

Spigen Slim Armor seems popular. There are eBay cases as well. The Armorbox is getting some attention as well by iBlason. All of these options are much less expensive than an otter.

If your lucky Ballistic may make a case, other than that i doubt there will be much of anything that has the double layered bulky thing going on

Very, very true. I once used Otterbox commuter cases (Hero and GS2), but then I discovered the Trident Aegis and it literally is better in every way on the GS2. I even bought more of them for my family members. Trident uses dust filters over the speakers and mic that really help keep debris out of those very important openings on the phone. I did however have a bad experience with a defective (or maybe poorly designed) Kraken case from Trident. It was made of a much cheaper feeling plastic and the power button broke off on the first time I used it. I will give them the benefit of the doubt that the item I got was a lemon. I hope they make an Aegis for the N5, I bet it will be great.

They take time to make theirs, but they did make one for the Galaxy nexus. Given a week or 3 I will bet they will have one. Could always email them and ask.

I don't know about the quality because I've never tried this brand, but it looks comparable to the UAG, otterbox commuter or trident aegis.

My roommate has an iBlason case and they're cheap crap. VERY flimsy silicon and cheap plastic. I wouldn't get one.

Damn I was hoping for a case along the lines of the Defender, Armor, or Preserver series from them. =\
I still have my Trident Kraken case for my Galaxy Nexus. The case made the GNex really thick but it had a kickstand and really good protection!

Well there is no way to know that they aren't gonna make an Otterbox for this phone. If the market is there, they will make it. Just because the fella this guy talked to doesn't know about one doesn't mean there isn't one, or won't be one. Just cross your fingers and maybe e-mail them about it!

I concur, I remember times in the past where different reps said different things. And in the end, something completely different happens. You never know. I just with there could be a Lifeproof or Armor

It seems that every time when a new nexus device comes out. There is always a thread similar to this. Otterbox are not very friendly towards nexus devices, there are alternatives out there.
As I always say, don't beg a company to make a case for a particular phone. If they don't make it, go to a competitor of Otterbox and give them your money instead.

I used a SEIDIO case on my Nexus 4 and I liked it, though I would have preferred an Otterbox. The Active case I had is sort of like an inverted Otterbox Defender--silicone on the inside and an outer plastic covering. I liked that it did NOT have a built-in screen protector.

I consider it a $10 insurance policy until a real case comes out.

they didn't make one for the nexus 4. i didn't expect one for the 5.

Tried one the same binned it straight away. Glass on glass is asking for trouble. Not practical goes no where near far enough. Avoid.

Wish I would have read this post first. I bought that Stomob case. It does look good with the translucent cover but within 6 hours of putting it on I had 3 large scratches across the screen of my brand new OP7 Pro. The hard plastic cover (it isn't glass - likely polycarbonate) grinds into your screen. I'm super bummed and will see if Stomob stands behind their product at all that they claim ensures screen protection.
I've used clamshell cases on other phones for years without ever getting a scratch - this case causes scratches - avoid at all costs.

Thanks y'all for this info, the adds are awesome, but not the case. I'm going to keep using the provided case until I can find one I really want. It'll have to be a clear back as I'm not covering my Nubia up!!

Yeah totally agree. This case rocks and at half the cost. I looked at a few other cases similar to this stomob one but was concerned about the effects, if any, of the magnets on reception. Can't go wrong with a Supcase tho... Got mine off Amazon at under $13.

No. They're the only option for this kind of case. That sucks. Which is why I question the idea of modding other cases in order to have a bumper-only case. RS cases are just not that great, IMO.

Agree. They're not. I used them on my 6p and if you drop the phone, it's a scuff mark. The paint job peels quite easily as well.
