Didn't see a post directly about this so I wanted to ask.
Has anyone tinkered with having the gnex open a VPN and clients connected via the hotspot function (default vzw, rooted, or other apps) being able to access internal resources?
Not sure if a VPN is created first, the hotspot function will NAT the VPN based IP or the public vzw address.
Thanks!

Hello, I apologize if this thread has been created, but I cannot find anything searching "vpn" in this forum since its only 3 chars long.
I would like to connect my G2 to my work's intranet via VPN. I can successfully do so via the built in options under Wireless & Networks option. However I have slight inconveniences with that option.
#1 DNS does not work. I cannot resolve any internal IPs once connected to the VPN which makes the VPN connection useless unless I memorize all the IPs. I manually set the DNS Search Domains option in the VPS settings, but I am still connected to some other DNS server according to IPDroid app.
#2 No password remembering. I dislike having to open up the keyboard to type the password.
Is there a market app that will satisfy my above 2 requirements while doing everything the stock option will allow?
Not out there yet...

VPN for Andriod

If one Android device is configured to use VPN by its own wireless network. And then if we turn on the Wifi hotspot AP (tethering) of that Android device.
Now if Kindle Fire can hook that Android device as Wifi AP, can then Kindle Fire use the VPN as well?
Thanks for any useful clue
In theory yes
However i have yet to find apps that allow that to happen in practice. The issue is the routing from the private ip range that the tethering app will provider to your connected guests to the address your phone has been assinged by the VPN.
I have tried a number of applications such as barnacle, foxfi, and the built in android tether in conjunciton with both a SSL and L2TP vpn and not had any luck getting it working yet.
If you find out how I would love to know also. Would be very handy for traveling with the kids and wife etc.
I know how to do this in Windows and Linux, but not really sure how to go about it on Android...4.0.4 to be exact.
What I'm trying to accomplish is to have both active, with the 3G/4G handling internet-based activities and the Wifi handling local network access.
Why? Basically my home internet is horrible however I have some services/shares on my LAN that I want to access on my phone. And I can't switch between them, not an option. Because many times I'm wanting to take a picture from my file server (Accessed over Wifi) and then upload it to Flickr (Accessed over 3G/4G).
In Windows it's setting the gateway metric, and I would set the connection with the internet with the lower metric while the LAN-only connection gets a higher one.
I'm not aware of any way to do this on any Android - I would imagine it requires a heavily modded ROM.
You could of course tether a Windows or Linux computer on your network to the Android and implement gateway metrics from that end, in order to copy photos from the LAN server to the Internet via cellular.

I'm agreeing with him ^

Ask Cyanogen, if he could do such a thing, afterall, he has been hacking/modding Android since it's inital release. If anyone can help you, it's him... Sorry dude.
While I've never tried it, you might want to try setting up a DHCP reservation on your LAN that DOES NOT provide a gateway. This should allow Internet access using your egress connection while still allowing local LAN access-at least this is how it works for most computers that are multihomed.
I setup the anyconnect client on my phone which works great. I can access internal web pages, ssh to internal devices. Problem is that if I launch the anyconnect client on the phone, and then wifi tether my laptop to the phone, the phone will not forward the traffic from the tethered device to the Anyconnect VPN.
FWIW, Wifi Tethering works fine without the Anyconnect.
Running Task650's 4.2.2 rom and the Anyconnect for root users on the phone.

Same problem here. Any help would be appreciated!
it's probably a routing issue on the phone, but I haven't had a chance to look into it yet.

bump.
bump. I will look into this. But can't post my help until I make 10 posts and get the ability to post links
Its a setting set by your administrator
The issue:
You might already know this but your network admin configured the app to prevent sharing of the connection. This is a common measure to prevent breaches in security. Looking at the Cisco AnyConnect release notes:
Cisco has qualified the AnyConnect VPN client over a bluetooth or USB tethered Apple iPhone only. Network connectivity provided by other tethered devices should be verified with the AnyConnect VPN client before deployment.

The WorkAround
How AnyConnect works on the android is the same as on a computer, which is documented on SuperUser.
So what we have to do is either, export the VPN profile to another VPN app, or change the variable in memory that prevents tethering of the AnyConnect VPN session.
This can be done using (while it wasn't created for this purpose) Game Gardian
I want to prevent my carrier from knowing that I am using CM11's native Hotspot or Tethering features. I know that they can look at the TTL of packets or analyze the traffic (Windows Update, Steam) to detect this. I have a subscription to a VPN service, Private Internet Access, which has an app on Android. If I enable the VPN mode of this app, will all the Hotspot traffic be routed through it, completely invisible to the carrier?
Searching showed me some conflicting answers on this, with some people saying to run it on the tethered device, and others saying to run it on the phone. I am thinking running VPN on phone, as the packets should appear to originate from the phone, rather than something 1 hop behind it.

To the best of my knowledge, they could easily know that you are connecting to the VPN tunnel as it utilizes a certain ports. However if it's correctly set up and utilize a secure protocol, all your traffic will get through the VPN and your ISP won't be able to decipher your online activities and your connection type or make sense of your internet traffic.
In other words, you may be using the VPN to connect to websites A, B, and C and send all sorts of interesting information to those websites; or send email; or whatever. Your ISP can see none of that. All they can see is encrypted data that they can't decrypt. So they know you're using a VPN, but they don't know what you're using it for.
Hope it could help.
