Here I thought EL26 was the final update for a while. Looks like we have another one coming down the pipe. I would imagine we would see a leak soon.

I wish there were lawsuits for charging $10 and not providing stable 4g and for providing 1 byte per second download speed 3g...
Nothing got much better than EL13 other than minor bugs (wallpaper related). I'd say with CIQ already removed, just jump to ICS already. We've got nearly perfect GB as it is now.
I'm getting tired of updating my phone to the latest!

EDIT: For me, they've perfected it. Fixed soundpool bug (which still exists on all other SGSII models) and LoS.

Couldn't agree more. The bull**** 10$ fee and I don't even get 4g where I live. I like how they lie to you at the sprint store when you question the fee...

FWIW,
Its not a 4G fee anymore. It's a smartphone fee. They can't charge iPhone users a 4G fee while their phones aren't capable of 4G, so Sprint changed it to a "Smartphone Fee" from a "4G Fee".
It's still dumb, I don't like it, but it is what it is. And I'm still better off on my family plan than AT&T

Probably. It's a good idea and I'm totally ok with it.
Samsung is leaking the roms through their "official" unofficial leak channel Sammobile. I assume this is because Sprint told them to remove CIQ asap and they are using the leaks to get a larger test base. It appears they are using this opportunity to patent proof the phones as well. I highly doubt Samsung has both a GB and ics team for the epic touch, so the fact that there are still gb roms being leaked is a bad sign.
It is possible they are incrementally updating different components of twiz to be ics compatible but still leaking them on top of GB for testing purposes.

Well HTC reps which no nothing still will tell you 2nd half of this year.
I'd assume they'd want to get it out before the Droid 2 is dropped as its going to have it on it and is released next month evidently.
One would think Sprint would be putting a foot in the arse of HTC to get it out. I've unfortunately herd horror stories of HTC's slow rollouts so who knows.
Man, why does it seem like more than half of the threads in "Evo General" get moved to another forum? Why not just delete the "General" forum? Most everything else fits into one of the other four categories. It would save a lot of mod effort, I would think.
Sorry, off-topic, but I'm smart enough to avoid the irony of starting a new thread.

Well heres the last email I got from HTC regarding this when I replied back to the first one saying thats BS they have no need to get stuff from google now the code is released to everyone. And also said with the Incredible getting FroYo in a week or two I asked for a better ETA regarding the Evo as opposed to the "2nd half of the year" I was originally told. I also commented on how Sprint stated that the Evo would be getting the Froyo soon.
"First, I want to apologize on Sprint's behalf because they should not have told you things that are inaccurate. They have no reason to say "soon" as to the availability of the update. Our engineers are indeed working on it, but it has to be made specifically for each phone and tested before it can be released. Setting up Sense is a large part of it as well. There is not a better time line I can give you than the second half of the year, as that is all the information we have right now. We do not have a better estimate than that."

You would think that Sprint would be lighting a fire under HTC's ass to get this out the door quicker. I mean this phone really has put sprint back in the game.
I think that samsung should pull out all the stops on ICS and let it loose to as many new devices that can support it as possible. Apple will give there phone the latest updates as long as the hard ware can handle it. Sammy in particular should give ICS quickly to compete with iPhones new iOs. Also to make up for the forever long wait we had to get this device. Ya they take forever but they must know its a problem and one would think there guys in samsung's "think tank" would let the company know where its lacking. Samsung's goal after all is to sell tons of phones and keep the customer happy as a fat kid at a ice cream truck ( yes there is a little pun in the ice cream comment )
xD ... Sad to say it... But the words samsung and update shouldn't be used together... Were already overdue on that LOS patch, original epic users are still on froyo as will...

no it does not
we are all hoping that Samsung tries to stick it to apple and dominate the US market similar to Nokia in the international market. I am as I think we all are that Samsung realizes that establishing support for top tier devices at minimum for 12th Months is what it is going to take. Now I say that we HOPE that they realize that, not saying they will. If that is the case, hopefully the community is strong enough to carry them otherwise for me its one and done on samsung.

isn't samsung now one of the google partners for timely updates? a bunch of manufacturers I think signed a deal with them saying they would release updates within 18 months of google releasing it(HTC, LG and others were also included). But once they release it, then the carriers usually take their sweet ass time pushing it out to us. from what I hear they gave sprint the los fix a while ago. It's sprint that's holding it up now
I believe they are on paper but I also believe that status has no bite to enforce it

Well at least Sammy isn't putting out updates like HTC. Every time I read about an update from HTC recently is says they are pulling it because of issues. Would rather an update be truly tested then just thrown at us with more problems then we started with.
Didn't the HTC Thunderbolt just get Gingerbread a year after it was released? The grass is not always greener on the other side.....
One thing that I don't see mentioned often is the fact the mobile phones are only a small part of Samsungs overall business; tv's, bd players, appliances, industrial equipment and more, are some of the things this gigantic company is involved with...Not defending their slow updating schedules and such, but, keep in mind that a company this big doesn't always focus the amount of attention on every division that they probably should.
I knew this coming into this phone, so, I am not really surprised in how long it has taken them to get updates out in the past, and, I doubt it will get much better moving forward, so don't expect them to be "first to market" when it comes to the latest and greatest software for this phone..

Please don't get excited I am just giving some generalized info that I got directly from a Samsung employee a few months back.
I was (as well as about 30 other people) told that we will have an official ICS release in the 1st quarter of 2012. That being said I think everyone can see the progress being made and I think its reasonable to believe that we can expect the official release either by the very end of this month or in the first week of April.
Side note: I am not a developer quite yet since I am working full time or caring for my infant child when I am home. I would like to say that all of the developers that are working on this phone are awesome, and that is whether they contribute mayhem and chaos to the community or they bring mountains of knowledge to the table. I only hope that all the rest of the devs sitting on their OG evos find a way to get their hands on one of our phone and get to blowing up the forums with more roms and more improvements on things. To all the devs... thank you very much for giving all of us an experience beyond that of the average user.

You realize this is ridiculous right? Sprint was the first carrier to get an official GB update for a Galaxy S phone. If you followed the leaks for the OG epic, you know that they had SERIOUS issues that did not get fixed until just before release (and some of them never did, there are still random reboots on stock devices, I see it every day at work).
Just take issue when people blame things on Sprint when in fact, it's a Samsung issue. Now, I personally believe the hiring of Cyanogen was part of a big push on their part to fix their reputation for being slow to update, and I think they are making a huge push right now to release ICS for the ET because they want to hang their hat on that and use it in the future. But in the past, this was a Samsung problem, not a Sprint one.

Lol I should have put (carriers) instead of just sprint... I had the vibrant with Tmobile... I dont know much about the epic 4g other than development was what 4 people?
Worst variant ever produced (epic 4g)
If it didnt have to go through carriers we would have had GB when the i9000 did (international galaxy s)
Now the epic 4g may have had problems getting GB because it was nothing like the others (giant useless keyboard?)
ill say it again if ics didnt go through sprints hand we would have it the same the if not close to the same time the international sgs2 has it....
I blame carriers more for late updates but last year wasnt to good for Samsung... But you cant base that "argument" anymore because we are gonna have ics mid spring...

Your argument now makes even less sense. The OG epic having the keyboard obviously didn't prevent it from being the FIRST Galaxy S device to get GB in the US. Yep, that's right, Samsung didn't release an official GB for ANY US GS1 device, until the Epic. So while there were challenges with 3rd party development (the keyboard wasn't the problem, a whole bunch of changes to the software and hardware were the problem), officially, it was first. And I would argue that the devs on the OG Epic are some of the best out there, adapting CM7 and CM9 to work on a device that is almost entirely unlike any other GS1. They continually took a device that is basically broken out of the box and turned it into a monster.
I mean no disrespect to the devs for our ET, as we have great devs here as well. We would be incredibly lucky to have devs from the OG epic come to our phone, as they are extremely talented and would bring a lot to our already excellent community. Please don't insult them again.
edit: I also should mention that the Epic was continually picked as the best GS1 varient by reviewers. Only one of the original 4 with a FFC, only one with 4G connectivity, only one with a keyboard. I would argue that the worst was the continuum, heh.

Lol this is why I hate xda/xda app I try to summarize a point and people look at it in a way that I didnt intend.. But w.e. I didn't mean the keyboard was ths whole reason why the epic 4g got a screwy GB update... Sh%t none of the galaxy s devices had stable gps.. (stock)but the keyboard didnt help... Just like the 3d technology for the evo 3d is being blamed for late ICS update....
The point that got taken away by your love and knowledge for the ugliest (IMO) gs1 is that CARRIERS I feel are to blame for late updates... Without them we would have it sooner and many can agree.. While some can disagree and blame the manufacturer... Or hardware of the phone...
And for the whole development thing? I am simply stating the phone wasnt sought after hence not many developers... Stop reading sh%t that isnt there I never said the developers where garbage.. So relax...
And if you think a keyboard is a + then Ill leave this conversation at that... Lol

"they" (media/HTC) said it would be in the first wave of updates wigh the sensation/xe/vivid/rezound? Not sure if all of them where on the list but the sensation/3d variants where... Now its "later this year"
Its sad that last years company who seem to almost avoid major OS updates (Samsung) has picked up that "ball"

I think it funny that when the LOS issue was hot and heavy it was sprints fault, now that ics is coming it is all Samsung. A little one sided? I think so.

The LOS issue was never really a Sprint issue per say. While many people argue that fact the fact of the matter is rooted or not rooted the phone had LOS issues out of the box. Sprint didn't really do much network wise to ge the issue fixed it was Samsung pushing out updates that started to fix the problem so I'm pretty sure this can go back to Samsung again not Sprint. Before I ever rooted my SGS2 I had it for a month on stock and while I had 2-3 LOS issues it was nothing that either moving the phone to a different place where it was sitting or just rebooting it didn't fix.
That being said once I did finally root the phone a month after I got it the first few EG30 roms I had massive LOS on each one. While we had a LOS checker and it did help at times there was just no way of getting around it. sadly flashing back to a pure stock rom always fixed the issue however. Move to EK02/EL29 (EK02 mostly) and the LOS was pretty much a done deal and it was gone again this was a Samsung update for modem and software in general which now fixed the problems so I don't see how Sprint is to blame in any of it. Sure they went about it and said they have no reported issues with the phone when there really were issues (LOS mostly which was a huge one for some people) but there was almost nothing Sprint could have done about that other then talk to Samsung and have them fix their software which is what they ended up having to do.
Engadget has an article reporting Ics for our phones to hit march 15th ....time will tell

If your talking about this article, then you might notice that this is not really talking about our phone. Not trolling, really just saying.
It's a general post about the Galaxy S II. Odds are high that this has absolutely nothing to do with the Epic 4G Touch, but nothing in the post deliberately excludes 'our device'.

Yes it does it clearly states Israeli devices/carriers/country
Unless they also have a sprint cdma sgs2
I'm very surprised by this, I was expecting Samsung to repeat their old ways and push updates out ~6 months or so after Europe updates hit OTA. I'm very glad I went with Sprint's SGSII because so far, I believe it's had the most official development support (out of the US varients). My cousin's SGSII who is on AT&T still has the soundpool bug. Ha!

We can only hope but my ballpark guess would be April for our ics "love"
Unless sprint does their "marketing technique" which could mean they will hold off on updating their older devices until the "new new" drops
That is the fear in the 3d forums but hey its all rumors till it hits a phone/device
My one concern is that Sprint will hold off any official ICS updates until they drop the galaxy nexus. They want to make a big splash with it being their first LTE phone & may want to be able to push that it has ICS as well.

Yup that may happen.. And is a fear... But by the end of march possibly April we will have a stable cm9/miui4/aokp... (there all really good right now with exceptions to the things people consider a "must" in a DD)
I have lost faith in "OTA" updates back when I had my vibrant/hd2
3rd party Developers are my "OTA" and I have more faith in them than manufacturers/carriers...
Think about all the people who rely on OTA's and never root or flash their dsvices.... Have mercy on their poor souls

Could not agree more, only plus is official releases tend to lead to more stable 3rd party goodness
There is one thing though they have a good angle to sell new phones. There new phones will be lte not wimax. So they can upgrade these because there 3g blows and people will still get lte phones
Most likely this will be for the Interntional version, Since they had builds way before us meaning that they had more time to work on the interntional version than the CDMA version.
Plus its no "Middle man" in between the interntaional version.. aka a carrier having to approve the update before pushing it out.. its some carriers out there.. but their not as controling as ours..
With all these leaks not like your going to be running the stock ICS rom anyway. plus it will get leak before it even become a OTA as always. till then you have many leaks to play with

The source code that has to be released beside the official release is responsible for that. Not the build itself.

Samsung released their press release that the global variant of the Galaxy S II will receive ICS on March 10th.
Which means ..... hopefully ..... source with it ?
Hehehe... funny this topic again...

With all the recent leaks and the speed they are getting released I don't think our time is too far off from this date.
Samsung is locked in a war with a certain fruity company and preparing to launch an offensive in the coming months.... Win for us.

I'm more interested in when the update will come for our phone
:good:Has anyone Heard that maybe sprint gave up on ics for our phone and now are going to go with jellybean maybe that is why we are still at ff18 ?
i believe the same thing happened with my sprint hero
I personally doubt it. You wouldn't work on something like this for 4 months (Feb-June) and just give up because something new is out. And the said they would deliver so it has to happen I believe.

your name caught my eye i live in manayunk. i've never seen another epic 4g touch owner in my city, much less anyone active on xda.
anyways back to OP - i doubt it bro. ff18 is probably final and they are just holding it back so they can sell more siii's
Had any stopped to think that maybe ics is a risk because some things it implements infringe on apple "innovative" patents?

It's more like I'v given up on Sprint.........
It's just a rumor for now... however, I doubt that FF18 is the final build since the brick bug is still very much alive. Maybe Samsung figured since 4.1 is such an incremental upgrade, they might as well use it. But that may piss off a lot of flash users.

another south philly xda user here! great day for grilling meat on my back slab, drinking cold beer and laying about in 90+ degree weather in my boxers all day.
4.0.3 ~> 4.0.4 was a truly incremental notch up, so it made sense.
i get the feeling 4.1 is a bit more of a deeper fundamental set of changes...?
if it was going to be implemented, it'll be given to a smaller team to do as a low priority, i would guess, no hurry.

You my friend are a giniuous this could be a reason and a realistic reason why samsung would skip ics... since apple is focusing on samsung and ics.. and from what i have been reeding from engadget gizmodo ect the work around the ban of nexus is jb.. so lets keep or fingers crosed y not

I agree that 4.1 is a bit more than an incremental upgrade from 4.0.x. Jelly Bean is capable of doing so much more than ICS, and not just in looks. There are some manger changes under the hood to make it run the way it does.
One of my neighbors has a Gnex and we flashed 4.1 to it the other day... Wow is all I can say!!!!
As much as I and most of us would want our ET4G's updated to 4.1... It'll be months till Sprint would get around to even looking at the update, let alone start working on it. I mean how long have they been working on the ICS update???
Just saying.....
Happy 4th of July XDA!!!
Edit: Hey you Philly guys... If your going to the show and fireworks tonight on the Parkway PM me, we'll exchange info and try and meet up... Photo op!!!!!
