[Q] Kernel stays at 80% - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I was wondering if anybody knew why my kernel is consuming so much energy at 80%, when Ive seen it consume on average 20%.
MY E4GT is rooted running the complete EL26 setup including the Blazer ROM, Thunderbolt script package, the recently released rogue EL26 kernel, and EL26 modem
please let me know if more information or details are needed
thanks in advance

What is the Thunderbolt script package? Sounds like some kind of wakelock going on. Do you have BetterBatteryStats to monitor usage more thoroughly?

Looking for this kernel....

Hi All,
I recently flashed my phone to stock from Calk's 1.5a rom as I thought It was causing problems... I found out the tower had the issue. Anyway, I was getting unbelievable battery life with the following kernel, 2.6.35.7-SPH-D710.EG30-CL435734
Can anyone provide my a link so I can download it again. I'm currently running Calk's 1.5a Rom with the kernel it comes with and my battery life is horrible. At 2PM CST today, it was charge to 100% and I also calibrated the battery... I'm already at 79% and I've only talked on it for 10 min max, checked a few emails and that's it... Any help would be appreciated!
I'm currently on the following:
ROM - Calkulin's E4GT ROM v1.5a
Kernel - 2.6.35.14-rogue_ET-1.1.3+
Baseband - S710.10S.EG31
Its In the stock Tom, just pull it out

Best kernel for jugg

Using jugg 5.0 jw what is the best kernel ? Seems like my battery drains fast even on stand by 7% an hour.

I agree with you. I love Faux123's work and features as far as the kernel goes and I don't know if the Kernel is to blame; however, I believe I was running Synergy .10 by Mr. X for a while with some better results ~2%/hr in standby. I wish this phone had the Samsung processor in the i777 instead of the Snapdragon, I would see only .5%/hr in standby with it.
Synergy is the best?
I'm running Darkside right now and get about .5% battery drain per hour standby.
just make sure you use better battery stats or some other sort of app to find any apps that cause partial wakelocks of your phone preventing it from sleeping.

[Q] Why is my battery so bad on ICS? Can I downgrade to GB?

I'll try to make this as simple as possible.
On VeNuM's GB ROM, I was getting at least a day on my battery, it was fantastic. Modem was EL29 (I believe, possibly 26 though). I could use the phone a lot and it still got good battery life. With the verizon PRL, forcing roaming 24/7, I could almost get two days on it since there was less time it was "Searching for service"
Now on ICS (have done stock, calk, venum), I have been getting dreadful battery life. Take it off the charger at 9 and by 3, after using the phone during my hour commute, it's dead. The place that I work has pretty bad service for sprint, barely hovers at 1 bar if I even have service at all. One thing I have also noticed is that even on stock (and stock PRL), my phone does not seem to roam, at all.
Here was day one on FE22 stock: https://www.dropbox.com/s/mwjr5j3nd5vgody/2012-06-06 15.36.08.png
Day one calk FE22: https://www.dropbox.com/s/0lroppsxl1bzbup/2012-06-07 18.14.04.png
Battery 2nd: https://www.dropbox.com/s/pttz5fla4us8evk/2012-06-07 18.14.08.png
You'll notice that there are a few bumps at the end. I did have it charging on the comp for a little bit before I left work, those are the two spikes. HOWEVER, it also rose on its own. It went down to 5% and then went UP to 6%, staying there for a bit and then going down.
There seems to be something funky going on, but I just dont know what. I'm currently testing what the difference is with the verizon PRL, I have that on there now.
Are there some battery logs I can post to perhaps decode this puzzle?
-----------------------------
Second question. How do I go about downgrading from ICS to GB?
Thanks a lot.
You should try calibrating your battery and wiping the battery stats at 100%. That would speed up the settling in.
I suggest using sfhubs Odin one click package to revert back to GB.

Something is keeping your phone awake. Download badass battery monitor and check whats using up your battery.!
I'll do that right now. I just took it off the charger an hour ago and it's down to 85, just sitting in my pocket. I'll let it charge back up to 100 and then clear battery stats. I'll use it today and if it's still bad, revert to GB.
You look at the pics? They're depressing.
i definitely think you have apps causing wakelocks. try disabling dropbox, facebook and other random programs that sync, same goes for other stuff u may have polling for updates. with exchange syncing every 15 minutes i think i get better battery life vs push. Kobridge tweaks helped a ton.
white signal bars- cm9, the other is stock fe22 w/kobridge
id defintely search the forums for better battery stats (the dev made it available for free to xda users) or badass battery monitor in the market (also free)
I'm on Kobridge aggressive! I tried moderate as well.
Can anyone else confirm the first reply as to how to downgrade to GB? A direct link would be nice as well.

backup sms with "sms backup and restore"
backup apps with titanium or "appbak"
run the odin one click found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101
if you dont want root, then run the autoroot package linked below(after doing above) and choose the option to remove root.

Battery life is not as good on ics and I too had the same the same problem. System monitor wouldn't pick up any program eating up CPU. Took me for a few day to realize I had a bad install. I had to Odin back to el26 and re install. That seemed to fix my problems. Which is my understanding is the procedure one is supposed to take when flashing from ics. So regardless your flashing back GB everytime you flash roms. but might want to give ics another shot when you flash correctly.

Must say it took me several weeks to find the right combination of parts to get my battery right.
I found that several of the newer modems were overheating my phone and draining my battery in a couple hours. Right now I'm running wicked ff02 rom, agats ff02 kernel and fe21 modem. Battery never get above 90 degrees; and yesterday I got an 8 hour day of work with heavy use (no mid day charge).
Edit: I tried venums boa rom, with very good results too. He included badass battery monitor, which seems to be one of the best of the bunch.

I did downgrade back to GB, running Blazer's EL29 rom with verizon PRL right now and from what I saw it was decent, even through the first battery cycle with the ROM. I'll see how it runs this weekend.
If I want to go back to ICS, can I flash straight from EL29 or should I flash the EL26 kernel first and then upgrade?

ICS Battery life
I have been running "Wicked Sensations" now for 4 days, with the FF09 Modem. I also added the FF11 Kobridge Tweaks to the mix using the aggressive zip. I have been getting roughly 15 to 18 hours out of my battery. I keep my screen about 15% on the slider for brightness. I am heavy user and this seems to be the best combination for my SII. I came from Calkulin's 3.0 GB... If you decide to go back to ICS, this combination. Good luck.

Battery drain when phone is sleeping on ICS

Hey everyone,
I recently experienced some incredible battery drain while running Calkulins 2.7rom with the EL26 kernel + EK02 modem (without OTA EL29 update) which seemed to happen overnight. This prompted me to flash my rom+kernel to Calks ICS 2 v1.6 with the FE22 modem. However, this also resulted in rapid battery drain when the phone was trying to sleep. I used badass battery monitor and my "kernel" CPU % is at 99% when the phone is off. This results in a battery life around 7hours even if I do not use the phone once throughout the day. I have wiped again and tried a Venum ROM based on FE22 and I get the same results.
What is preventing this phone from sleeping? I haven't installed any apps.

Need help with a Gingerbread rom

Hey guys, when i started using the epic touch which was pretty recent, I jumped straight in to the 4.x toms. Currently on blu kuban. Now I really want to go to the best possible gingerbread rom for battery life. I have no idea which rom would have the best battery but I am extremely frustrated with my battery drain on ICS. Can anyone please give me their opinions from what they remember from the gingerbread days or if there is any other way i can drastically improve battery life on ics either with a different rom or kernel? Thanks.
On GB the popular roms I remember were Caulk's and Blazer but I had a stock rooted EL29 setup that I stripped down myself and used QQ Launcher on and really enjoyed for a while. Honestly though battery life is really about the same for me on ICS and GB. I'm currently running agats rom but wicked sensations, aokp, and black rom are all pretty similar in battery life. I'm also now undervolted by -.50 and that has helped even more.
Honestly though its really just a matter of managing your phone and knowing what is running and burning up battery in the background. Use dark themed apps, turn off wifi and 4g when not in use etc.. I also use data enabler widget and turn off data at night now then just toggle back on when i wake up. Last night I dropped 2% in 6 hours.

thanks man, so a noob question now. I never undervolted. I just switched to Universe v2.0 rom which now uses kuban kernel as well. what does undervolting do and how can I help?

Undervolting is supplying less mV to your CPUs. In terms you can extend you battery life as the phone can operate at the same speed using less voltage. (Less power used, more battery available)
With that said, don't under volt too much usually -25mV to -50mV is optimal if you go any less you run into the issue of nit having enough voltage and your phone could freeze or crash. Both agat's and kuban kernels offer undervolting and under clocking.
Just a FYI I'm using sleshepic's the governors kernel. No undervolting, just have it set to CFQ and Pegasusq at 1000 Max and 200 min and I've been getting around 11 - 12 hrs with moderate use.

thanks man, so how can i undervolt it to -50mV? is there an app i can use? i have the voltage control lite. From what I remember I think this tweak could be done on the blu kuban rom without any apps but not on this universe 2.0 rom.

Yes voltage control on kuban kernel allows you to under volt. If you click on each step(slide the voltage to the left) you can under volt it. Then apply settings and your good to go. PM me or reply here is you have any more questions.

Voltage and governor control is now built into Kuban ROM. It's all in extweaks in the system menu. You may want to try it out. You will be losing a lot going back to gingerbread. I actually get better battery life on Kuban than I ever did on GB. And I haven't even messed with under volting. I do recommend the Wheatley and Skywalker governors for the perfect balance of performance and efficiency.
Kuban has been good for me as well.. I don't under volt at all.. To unstable on my phone.. I get 4 hours screen on(heavy use) and good deep sleep with the Kuban kernel(1100-200), placebo tweaks, odexed a few apps, and a modified framework to make it more zippy without compromising battery

most popular gingerbread roms are calkulin 3.0 and blazer 4.1 but im hearing blu kuban ics has good battery life too huh?
