[Q] Phone not detected by computer after MTD - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry if this has been asked before but couldn't find an answer after googling and searching these forums. Since I have flashed CM7 on the Epic 4g my computer no longer detects the phone. Tried rebooting and a few different usb cables.
Just wondering if this is a known issue or something on my end.

Mine works fine it could be windows messing with you. Try unistalling and reinstalling odin and your drivers. Or try these drivers ill upload them after this post. If windows is still finding it as an unkown device go into device manager and unistall the drivers it had updated and advance install these drivers. Btw why do you need it to recognise? Have you tried different usb ports if you on a desktop dnt plug it into a hub ( the front usb) connect it to the back main usb ports directly linked to the motherboard.

If your pc is 32 bit use this if not I can get you the 64bit but it will take a minute.

I was hooking it up to transfer the latest nightly. It's not an emergency by any means, was just wondering if it was a common issue or not.
It is a 64-bit and yea I tried all of the usb ports. If you have a link to the 64-bit driver that would be great. I'll uninstall and re-install it.

Thanks a lot for the link and sorry for the late reply. Had to catch the NFL game. I flashed the latest nightly and the issues are fixed. Wifi still doesn't work but from what I've read it's still supposed to be flaky anyways.
Thank you again.

[Q] Rooting Epic on a 64bit system need help

Alright everyone I'm a EVO User but My friend is trying to root his Epic and is haveing problems we tried z4root and then tried to flash clockwork through rom manager with out a PC. When trying a PC it won't recognize the phone he is running a 64bit system and was going to try the one-click root that flashes Clockwork as well but since his PC won't recognize the phone he can't we have tried the 64bit drivers as well and nothing any help is greatly appreciated thank you
You need to try different USB cables and different USB ports on your PC. Usually on a desktop the USB port in the back is the best. Try to uninstall the epic drivers and then reinstall.them. this has worked.for.me before. And like you found out you can't use Tom manager to flash cwm on the stock kernel. Rom manager says it flashed it but it doesn't. Just try the tips I gave you and see if.it works. Good.luck

I have windows 7 64 and have never had problems with the samsung usb drivers or one click root/cwm. When the first attempt fails, chances are you need to retrace your steps and redo them. Use the rear usb port and be sure to reboot after installing drivers. That always helps me.

If you are having a driver issue (still) try installing PDAnet. I have Win7 Ultimate 64 bit and couldn't get any of the linked samsung drivers to install and correctly recognize my phone. I installed PDAnet, selected Samsung and viola... worky.
If that still doesn't work for you, try a different USB cable.
Once you get the drivers working properly, and have a good cable, the one click root/clockwork mod installer will work like a champ.
These steps should work for you.

64 bit USB driver won't recognize my phone

I bought a new laptop and it's 64 bit running Windows 7. I'm trying to install the 64 bit USB driver & get it to recognize my phone but it simply won't work.
The following two things keep running and running with the words "installing driver software" after them:
CDC Abstract Control Model (ACM)
S3C6410 Android ADB
I have no idea how to get this to work so any advice is greatly appreciated!
ps - USB debugging is checked in my application settings.
There are lots of people having problems with 64 bit windows nit recognizing the epic. My suggestion is to try.another USB cable. I use my wife's evo cable and it works fine for me. Good luck man just keep trying. Try different ports, cables and also check.to.make sure the USB slot is clear from any obstructions.

When you ran the setup for the driver, did you run it as administrator?
Right click on setup.exe and select that option from the menu.
Sorry you're having such a bad time, that has got to be mega-frustrating.
I've read also, that some people run the 32 bit drivers on win 7 64bit and they report that they work for them just fine.
hey man i feel your pain. I have been having the same exact problems as you. I also have tried the 64 bit/32bit drivers, uninstalling/reinstalling them, everything i can think of or have been told to do to no avail. It use to work fine until i got the first froyo update eb13 and ever since its been like this. My laptop keeps telling me to replace my device.
I did get on a computer at work with win XP and i plugged my phone into it and the device installed but im not sure about the drivers. Im limited to what i can do at work. So maybe it has something to do with windows 7 cause my laptop is brand new as most people having this problem are to.
Did the drivers change after the EC05 update. Neither of my computers will recognize my phone now after I updated the modem. I even tried reinstalling the links you have in this post and updating drivers and still a no go.
I just had this problem recently. It wasn't the drivers - instead, it was the USB port I was using. If you're on a desktop, try a usb port on the back of the pc. If you're on a laptop, give all the usb ports a go.

Nope; I have a win7 ultimate 32 laptop and a win 7 ultimate 64 desktop. Both see my phone just fine. Same drivers from when I first rooted after xmas to DK28 from 2.1.
I have heard of people having an issue with something bent on the phone's usb connector, it stops from getting full connection.
I'm having the same issue, but I can connect when I uncheck USB debugging. With it checked, it won't connect. I'm trying to root with 2.5.5...

SGH-i747m

kyanROM 1.3
I am currently unable to connect my phone to a PC or MAC using the usb cable. I have tried just about everything I can think of with no luck.
what I have tried so far is:
restarting my computer and phone
different computers mac and pc.
different usb cable
uninstalling and reinstalling samsung drivers from PC
tried switching from mtp, to ptp, to adb, using phoneutility (*#7284#)
pulled battery
wiped cache partition
fixed permissions
I even booted the phone into download mode and connected to odin.
I see nothing.
any ideas? I am at a loss. I cant find any info or similar case.
edit: i also tried downloading kies and using the connection troubleshooting utility.. no luck
usb debugging is on but tried with it off as well.
I've been having the same issue on my Win7 home premium.
The phone is charging but can't see folders.
It works on OSX as a Camera though.Click on "Connected as a media device" from the pulldown menu and select "Camera", youll also need a program on OSX. Go to

did this problem started since you flashed Kyan rom 1.3 cause I had the same problem a few weeks ago and I recently flashed the latest CM10 rom and everything works fine now. Does your phone charge when you plug it?.
My phone charges when I plug it in.
I can't be sure if this only happend after I flashed kyanROM 1.3.
That is definitely something I did since the last time it was pluged into a computer.
Maybe ill just flash cm10.

Sounds like it may indeed be a problem with the phone's hardware. You might want to try taking it into the store to see if they can reproduce.
i re-flashed my phone using an old backup from when i knew usb connectivity was working,
still not working.
Brought the phone to an ATT device support center while on stock rooted rom.
They didn't realize the phone was rooted and they couldn't re-flash my phone without usb connectivity so I got it replace.
I am going to run stock rom for a bit... maybe until the official jelly bean release.
then maybe ill go back to Kyanrom or cm10... any suggestions?
Ilso I am not sure what created my usb issue.
I think it was my regular use of an old iPad power brick.
I am going to only use the stock charger from now on and hope that problem doesn't come back.

Had the same problem, but my work machine has never once gave me a problem, the one at home does this exact same thing, it maybe a phone hardware problem if you see it doing it on another machine, but I dunno, only reason I haven't fixed the home issue is, I do NOT want to re-install win7, my linux box see's it perfect every time also. I read somewhere in a forum, that it is a samung/microsoft driver bug. It is stored in the registry somewhere, what I saw was I had it working perfectly, then I plugged in my MyTouch to push a stock rom onto it, and then the next time I went to plug in the SG3 the problem started. Windows acts real stupid when you continuously keep plugging in different devices all the time. But then again, you said you tried it on a mac. Humm! Again, this is my opinion only.
same problem i have with no solution need help also please
same problem i have without any solution i need help please
Had the same problem, but with a brand new SGS3 with the stock ROM and cable. Plugged in my Nexus 7 cable instead and that works for some reason. Will bother best buy about it I guess.
got the same issue. tried to sync some files over from the gs3 to my laptop and it only charges the phone, does not recognize it . tried several cables and tried on my desktop, nothing. now im in search cuz this kinda sucks. i flashed CM10 ROM2 and it stopped working for me after that, tried restoring back to rooted stock TW but nothing still. still looking for a fix.
One thing I noticed is that all the computers where I'm having issues are running win7. One win7 home premium and the other win7 pro.
In the office I have XP pro and it recognizes the phone with no problems.

I have a similar issue. This happened just after I rooted my phone. No USB connetion.....more or less. I'm now running Windows 8 and when I installed the drivers and connected my phone Windows starts the installation and it detects the SAMSUNG USB Composite Device and the SAMSUMG Mobile Modem but I can't access the SD card or internal memory. I changed the cable and reinstalled the drivers. I even installed Kies and it says that my device is not supported....any more ideas?
have you checked to see if you are in the "AP" mode when you dial ##8778#, you need to have a stock dialer for the codes to work on some custom roms the dialer codes will not work.
Default is set to"AP"
"AP" <----....xfer files
"CP" is used when programing to other carriers..etc...via CDMA Workshop.......
"ALL" <-----some people like to use this setting
didn't work

I uninstalled it and am now back to normal.

Samsung phone are REALLY picky about what cables you use. Some cables will only charge the device when you plug into USB, others will allow you to interface with a PC. The stock cable that came with your E4GT is the best to use, also the HTC smartphone microUSB cables work too. Hit and miss with LG and Motorola cables.
Do you have extweaks on that rom? If so you can force it to hook up thru the usb settings section.
When I originally rooted the same thing happened. It was almost like it had no setting to hook up to a PC. Only fix I found was driver sweeping the pc, reinstall the drivers, and switching roms untill one hooked up again. Repeat the driver sweep for each rom. It was a hassle but it worked. Landed on the blu kuban.
E4GT on Blu Kuban FI27, running XDA app.

really? because I've been having the same issue and I haven't done any mods or anything with my phone yet...pretty stock. But I took it to a boost near me and the clerk plugged it at it got detected in no time.
I plugged other devices into the same USB_port with the same cable and the port and cable seem to be fine in my computer and no go, got the latest driver still nothing, and at some point I tryed to older drivers and still nothing.
I guess i'll have to try another uUSB cable. I only have one laying around

I've had same issue with Samsung Galaxy S4 (I9506). After a week of trying all available custom and official rom's I've followed pariah1570 advice to uninstall some apps and it worked! Great thanks. I don't know yet which app caused this problem, but I'm installing it one by one and checking.

[Q] Epic 4G (D700), ODIN and "Unknown Device"

Okay i have seen similar posts around, and I apologize if this bothers anyone but when I post a thread asking for help, its because I've tried most solutions and have gotten nowhere. I recently bought one.of.these devices and I have to say for an old 1GHz device, its pretty darn smooth! (Got it for my girl who broke her phone. Cost $20 MINT screen, and some scuffs.on the trim believe it or not, fully functional, clean ESN)
I love for all devices in the house to be rooted and off that dreaded Gingerbread android. I have been stuck since i got it trying to use ODIN to flash CWM, and root it to flash a JB based rom. Problem is i installed the drivers, got the ODIN version required, have the CWM tar file, etc, the phone gets detected while on in ADB, normal file transfer way and so on. BUT Download Mode? Nope, i get the dreaded "Unknown Device" issue.
Now as I always read before annoying others, I read that switching the USB cable helps. I've tried 8 USB cables, and no go. 2 Samsungs (i read those are #1 NO GOs), 3 LG cables (device doesnt appear at all), and 3 non brand. No good.
I know Mobile Odin wont work, I rooted it using Framaroot.apk for now, but I need CWM for the rom flashing part.
So now that its 2013, is there really no other way other than ODIN? I tried using ROM Manager, it flashes but doesnt do a thing except boot into stock recovery (miracle no bricks or bootlooping). If I had Linux on my PC, will it get detected or its just the darn cable?
OR is there a specific USB cable brand I should go for that is guaranteed to work? I dont mind buying it just have been waiting to make sure.
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Well there's good news and bad.
Got an official BlackBerry USB cable.
Bad is the device is STILL not recognized.
The drivers have been properly installed, there is no updating the drivers manually, effing Windows won't let me. What the hell can I do now?
If only Mobile Odin worked, or there were other methods, I wouldn't be going thru this mess...
Like where did I go wrong?
I would swap out Windows to Linux, but I don't see how that will get the device detected.
Matter of fact I was trying to install a Linux based OS from my flash drivd, and it corrupted it. Theres 8gb Ill never see again...
Any other ideas? Will Linux pick up the device?
EDIT: This USB unlike the others BRIEFLY detects it as a USB Device, then goes back to unknown when I uninstall it thru Device Manager

Are you plugging into a port directly on the motherboard? (IE: A port on the back of the machine.) Using an emulated port or hub can cause this at times.
FYI, there are 2 drivers. One is for when the phone is fully booted in Android. The other is the driver when in download mode. Have you tried using another machine?

I think your issue is driver related. I had similiar issues and updated the wiki with the drivers that ended up working for me.
