Yeah there is a soft spot below the camera where it slightly pushes in. I think it is because of the design of the back cover

Mines fine, though the back cover seems to be fairly flimsy, definitely will get a case.
Use a bit of tape
I also noticed there is some space under the batery cover around the camera. It produced annoying noices when making a call so I just put on some small strips of tape. Problem solved.

Good idea. I will do the same.
i guess the gap is important to release the heat at the top part during data usage
after applying tape.. dont you have heat issues?
No heat problem
The space between the cover and the body is really small. A few single tape strips at the right place prevent the cover from moving. No heat problems at all.

Mine does this if I don't have the rear cover installed correctly. It still has a TINY amount of push, but less than a mm. You can't notice it unless you look really close to it while pushing.

Good point, tape may become super-stuck-melted-on after a good round of video watching or game playing.
I've had to swap my Nexus for another one when my vibration motor started making weird noises. When my phone would vibrate, it would also come along with an annoying hum like a screw was loose or something.
Only had the phone for a week before that started happening.
I have the extended battery cover and it creaks really bad. My volume rocker is also loose and rattles. I am going to Verizon tomorrow to see if I can find a unit that is more solid.
Sent from my Verizon Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Mine is solid as a rock. No creaking, no soft spots. I have a spare battery and swap it out once in a wile so I take the cover on and off a few times a week. It may just be that it's not sitting right.
Best way I have found is to start at the bottom work your way up one side then down the other. If any clips are missed or not sitting right it will feel cheap. Once they are all clipped properly, it's as solid as can be.

+ 1 to gnex build quality, not quite the heft of the n1 but it is as solid can be for a plastic phone.

I actually prefer the light weight plastic that samsung builds thier devices with. Look into a motorola or iphone if you want the battleship feel.
My post in this thread explains what that nose on the back cover is and how I fixed it on my phone.

mines has a bit of in and out "give" when i press on it. especially right underneath where the camera juts out.
i cant tell if thats the way its meant to be or not. i've not noticed it up until now, but it seems odd. its flush with the back of the device all over, except underneath the camera, where its kind of slack
anybody elses like this?
mine is. Its not a big deal. Thats the closest to a physical flaw and i dont even consider it that.

yeah, i figured
i just never remembered it doing that for the last week and i was worried i'd broken a clip inside or something
Yes, around where the camera is at on the left side! =)
Mine has it too
Not on mine...my cover is snug.
Slight creaky-ness to it around the edge, just below and to the right of the camera!
There are two types of back covers. One with the Google and Samsung words written Dully. One Bright. The bright one has none of that push in and out feel. The dully written one does. That's my experience with the backcovers....
mine is snug no movement

Not on an HSPA+ version. They are two totally different shaped batteries.
is it just me or is it a general "problem" that the backcover is not really solid near the camera, when i press the backcover down a bit it crunches a bit
someboy else noticed ?
seems fine for me.. perhaps your back cover is not fully latched on in one spot?

same here.
Take off the cover ans stick a piece of tape or paper or something in there.
I've been wondering about this since I got the phone.
The battery cover seems very much unftting with the camera, am I the only experiencing this? It kinda annoys me in the long run. If a "fix" is available I'd be happy to know!

Mine is perfect and I haven't heard anyone else with this. Does it affect your pics?
I would bring it back if it does. Maybe a dodgy factory build.
Do you mean that the cover around the camera can be "pressed in"? If that's the case then that is a common thing. If you don't like it you can try sticking some folded piece of paper with sticky tape under the cover under that area.

Good point I have that too. I thought he meant it was affecting pictures because some of the lens was covered.
I'm on my third phone and the second was like this. Drove me nuts. My third and first fit snug. I would take it back and ask for another cover to see if it is the cover or a phone problem. I used a heat gun on the cover to try and form it closer to the camera with a little success but wasn't perfect.

Thanks. much better formulated, I was having a hard time trying to describe the situation.
It annoys me deeply, and I'll try with the folded paper.
Greetings,
I just received a Galaxy Nexus (from Play Store) and noticing that the battery cover seems to have quite a bit of give and play around the google logo and above the sim card area. How would I fix this? Can I just get a replacement back cover? Or is the common?
Everything else on this unit is PERFECT. Screen quality is great! It's just some minor creaking on the battery cover.
Same thing on every GNex. Jam some tape in there or something!

Way ahead of you! Putting a little tape on the inside of the back cover won't hinder wireless performance will it?
Not unless its made of metal
Thanks, but is this seriously that normal? I know the back is just flimsy plastic but still...

The back cover is loose on my Nexus around the camera as well, but the give is no more than a fraction of a millimeter. I put a cheap case from Amazon on it just to protect from drops and it solved the problem.
Same here, there were click sounds in the beginning, now it's gone (without tape) so i forgot about it

I'm glad I found this thread. I noticed that too when I got mine. I was seriously going to call and get a new back cover.

Noticed this today (second day of daily using) Though seeing the number of pages dedicated for this problem just with a simple google search kind of calmed me down :silly:
But still, this phone has an amazing body, why would they make the back cover loose?
blu tak works well
Just bought my Note 2. The battery came half full so it's charging right now.
The first thing I noticed was the impossibly thin back cover and wondered how many people have managed to break theirs...
It'd be fine if it were made of carbon fiber, but plastic this thin will eventually break, no matter how malleable it is. For crying out loud, I've seen sheets of paper that are thicker than this!
How many of you have broken it already?
It's not going to break under normal use. If you take it off and bend it 90 degrees maybe, but it's not just going to spontaneously shatter on you.
Most people use a case so it wont break from dropping.
Ive never felt like it was going to break when removing or replacing it either.
As long as your not trying to break it, it wont break from normal use.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
The thinner it is the less chance it will break, crack or split.under normal use. I have had mine for just over 3 months and have removed it maybe 10 times. It still loks like new. You should be more worrried about the front anyway. A new case cost buttons in comparrison with the screen or digitizer.
People said the same thing about the galaxy s 2 back cover when that came out. Check out this video of it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fu5qy6gffbs&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Samsung's been using this stuff for years for a simple reason - it's light, and strong.
- Frank
Been using s2 before this and never heard of broken backcover. You would be surprise how malleable and strong it is.
Now a broken screen is another matter that you should be more concern about.

They must create it like that to make the device light
I changed the back cover. Cheap and cool.

My god that is super blingy
i dropped mine from like 15 cm from the ground went it came flying out my bag, it cracked, you can barely notice it
but once i know it's there it ****ing bothers
Well buy a replacement, they're cheap.
Every 2-3 days I replace my battery with a charged one and I have done this with my note N7000 as well as my current N7100. This had led me to zero issues, not even a piece of the battery casing on either phone have broke off. These were designed very well where they will hold up to more than your everyday usage.

Just a quick heads up for battery cover buyers:
The item listing doesn't say whether this cover contains the NFC antenna like the Samsung covers do. I know some of the aftermarket covers don't have it. Anyone wanting to retain NFC functionality should be sure and check this before ordering an aftermarket Note 2 battery cover.

As it's a metal back cover I don't think the NFC will work.
Someone posted in the accessories section saying they had bought a metal back cover with NFC, however upon testing it the NFC didn't actually work.
For someone like me in the UK though that's hardly an issue, NFC isn't widely used here, the only use we have for it now is if we want to use NFC tags, and that's about it.
FWIW, I have an Epic 4G that uses the same thin plastic back. I've had that phone for 2 years and there are no cracks, damage to the phone or anything. Actually looks pretty darn new, save for where some of the clearcoat is coming off around the speakerhole. Of all the things to be concerned about on this phone, the back is the least of my worries.
