[Q] will rooting my arc S void my phone warranty? - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've read many post about rooting, and the advantages of rooting.. I'm start jelous with it lol, so i take decide to root my phone WITHOUT unlocking the bootloaders (using Doomlord method).. will my warranty void if i root using the zergRush rootkit?
sorry for my english

Nope, only if you unlock the bootloader, some custom roms requires this.

He's asking about rooting, not roms.
You can root 4.0.2.A.0.42 and before using doomlord's zergrush easy rooting kit. 4.0.2.A.0.58 onwards fixed the exploit I think.

.62 onwards

rooting your phone with Zergrush doesnt void your waranty.

So I can root my arc s with zergrush without voiding warranty? As in the next few days I need to return the phone to exchange it for a new arc s that isnt linked to someones contract (they're not going to pay their bill) so im afraid in the next two or three months the phone might get blocked
Sent from my Xperia Arc using Tapatalk

no, root doesn't void ur warranty if u not unlocked the bootloader. .
u can use zergRush v3 if u use .42 FW or below
(its ot hard, jz need to install some driver 1st, read the requirement 1st)

after rooting with zergrush, is it still possble to upgrade to ICS using SE firmware?

Yes, it's possible.

thanks. so is possible to do a firmware upgrade using phone update

Yes, you don't have to change anything, just connect your device with your PC and start PCC or SEUS.

im on my way to root my phone, but im abit confuse with installing ADB on my phone.. while using SDK, there is an android list that we need to choose before downloading.. the 4.0 android automatically ticked, but my version for my ARC S is 2.3.4, should i tick the 2.3.4?

Just install ADB drivers and use the Easy Rooting Toolkit by DooMLoRD.

yea i know installing ADB, but at ADB software, there is android version to tick.. my ARC S version is 2.3.4 gingerbread, but the ADB software shows 4.0 ticked

You don't need Android SDK for just rooting the device.
Look here for the drivers.

lol, i need it because im using Doomlord tool

You don't have to, just install adb drivers.

[Q] SuperOneClick keeps crashing?

Phone: Xperia Play (R800i)
Android Version: 2.3.4 (Gingerbread)
Build Number: 4.0.1.A.0.283
Bootloader State: Locked
Rooted State: Not rooted
SuperOneClick Version: 2.3.3
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
SuperOneClick keeps crashing! Here is what I do:
1. Turn on USB debugging.
2. Plug phone into computer
3. Unmount micro SD.
4. Start SuperOneClick
5. Click 'ROOT'
Along the right side this is what I see:
* daemon not running. starting it no on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
and then it stops and says 'not responding' ?
Am I doing something wrong? Is there something I need to do to prevent this? Is it because I'm running 64-bit?

Have you unlocked bootloader?? Do you have cwm installed??
I had this problem with it to
Reason it didn't work is because the proper ADB driver wasn't installed
Install this when your phone is in debug mode

@thatsupnow : Sorry that was a typo, my bootloader is locked.
If I flashed 2.3.2, would I be able to update OTA without bricking phone? (Because bootloader is locked)
Yea you should be able to do that no problem. Have you tried doomlord's root kit that should work for you instead of going all the way back to 2.3.2

[Q] Question needed to be answered

Hey all!
I am quite new here so yeah.. At first i post a thread about some questions but still i don't understand some.
1: How do i unlock my bootloader without SE detecting it as a unlocked bootloader. Some say use SETooL/Omnius but i am still not sure about that. I don't want SE to detect my phone's bootloader as unlock. I know if it does my warranty is as good as dead.
2: Flash? What is flash? More importantly how do i flash roms onto my LT18i? I need a clear step by step instructions. What do i need to have before flashing? ADB Drivers? PC Companion? Is there a video that can teach me how to flash roms/kernels clearly? Give me an example on how to flash using a rom that can be flashed on Xperia Arc S.
These things might be hard to answer as it is in every noobs mind. So please help me understand, these things. How? What is needed? Example? I need answers. It is hard to search for answers as i am busy with my school and i am having Common Test (Sort of an important Test that is counted in my Exams). I am willing to learn more about this Android development thing.
Thanks,

But! But! I don't get it! How about on my Arc S?! Is a free method available without removing the DRM stated in your video? Mine says BootLoader Unlock Allowed: Yes. But if i use the paid method (SETool 2) will i need to like connect the testpoints or something. This is for my Xperia Arc S
Success! After some experiments I finally unlocked my bootloader and I flashed an ICS Rom!

[Q] How do I get root back after update to .62 firmware?

I just updated my arc via PC companion software to .62 firmware.
I rooted it earlier by super one click method by DooMLorD from here.
Now after the update I don't have root access and I can't get it back by the same way or by GingerBreak and I can still see superuser icon.
The system apps are reaaally using too much memory.
Any idea how i can solve that please?!

using flash tool and a .42 FTF downgrade from .62 to .42 un check wipe cash and wipe user data and you save everything.
root using flashtool
do an OTA update to .62 and you remain root.
then and only then can you delete system apps you dont want. if you change the system aps befor the OTA update it will fail to update.

What needs to be done in the following ORDER
1 - Get yourself a firmware (whichever one you want) .42
1.1 - Connect your phone to your computer
2 - Using the application called Flashtool which be can be found on the forum (multiple threads) Flash the the rom. You will loose all your contacts, sms etc...
2.2 - Wait for the tool to tell you that it's done flashing
2.3 - Using ZergRush or Flashtool ROOT your phone.
3 - Start your phone and disconnect it from the PC
4 - Press the menu button and go to SETTINGS - ABOUT PHONE - SOFTWARE UPDATE
5 - This will verify and push the OTA for .62 to your phone.
That's pretty much it in the simplest way possible.

it`s not so easy
I did it exactly step by step,
phone shows information about upgrade but what i need is PC Companion to do that. This information is in notification about new firmware.
ok I did it but first I had flashed LT15i_4.0.2.A.0.58_Generic Global HK because only after that I could upgrade withouth PC Companion.
thx for advice.
Yeah that was point 1. Which was to get yourself a firmware version .42... then yeah you can update via OTA...
I can't update .42 OTA it is possible only when i flash .58 first...

That's what I have done, and worked well.
Question: How can I update via OTA? Is there a site like wotanserver or something? Or is OTA an app I can download somewhere?
I updated my WT19 with PC Companion, it has .62 firmware now, but I need root to delete system apps and clear space on internal memory.
Anyway I always update via wotanserver, because I can't find the .ftf I need to flash it via flashtool. And now I'm having problems with wotanserver, so where can I find those firmware files (ftf) ?? (for my model)

how can i enter sony recovery ?

hey ..
i ask about how can i log in Recovery mode for Xperia Arc LT15i without flashing kernels.
I want to enter recovery of sony , want to keep sony logo and the ability also to enter recovery without pc.
Do you have you root? If do you can install clockworkmod/cwm which will get you into recovery mode there is a link to download in the dev section or go to market and download it is free.

uhm are you using the stock rom from sony?
because i'm pretty sure .62 cant be rooted with zergRush
Like the post above you can't directly root.62 with zergrush method.
If your bootloader is locked you can use flashtools to downgrade to .42 then get root with zergrush, then you can update over the air to .62 and still keep root.
If your bootloader is unlocked do not update over the air out you will brick your phone.
Look at the stickies you will find all the tools you need.

the Bootloader is opened and i uses a prerooted kernel and Windy Ser1es 30.5 rom.
when i try to use titanium back up, it said Root : can't access. so why ? i dnt know.
now, i want to do root manually, how i can do this ?
i want to keep my opened boot loader and keep sony logo with recovery, how can i do this also ?
Flash DooMKernel to get root and then flash the other kernel to keep the Sony logo.
But why do you want to keep that Sony logo?
DooMLoRD's bootlogo looks much better

another 2 Qs :
-what's the difference bet. CM7.2 and CM9.0 and which is better ?
-which kernel is best to use ?
CM7.2 = Android 2.3.7
CM9 = Android 4.0.4
For CM ROMs the included kernels are the best
For gingerbread from Sony I'd say go for DooMKernel

My laptop don't have any antivirus, but what are those drivers needed? I have Android SDK installed here but I just want to make sure if I missed anything. Still the root isn't working and my XPlay is .42
Also I tried the latest superoneclick on shortfuse.org. Still no good.
Oh finally. Rooted it successfully. Thanks to you guys, especially fma965. I just noticed that there is an advanced tab in superoneclick. Clicked Check Drivers button and installed a missing driver for my xplay. Then, voila! After clicking root button, it proceeds and now my xplay is rooted.

He has a verizon xplay too, and his problem is just like mine --- Missing drivers. Go to Advanced tab and click Check Drivers. It auto-installs the missing SEMC-HSUSB driver if im not mistaken. When done, click Root. I hope this helps.
