My touch screen stopped responding and the Acer tech had me factory reset the device. The instructions are as follows:
1) Place the rotation lock switch in the up position
2) Press and hold the Volume down button, which is located farthest from the rotation lock
3) With the Volume down button held, press and hold the Power button for 3 seconds then release it. Continue holding the Volume down button.
4) Once the tablet vibrates, switch the rotation lock on and off repeatedly while still holding the Volume down button.
5) Release the Volume down button and stop switching the rotation lock once the "Erasing Userdata..." message appears in the upper left corner of the screen
6) Once the factory reset has been completed your tablet will load to the Welcome screen.
Before it is asked, YES you will loose your data. Yes, you will loose root. The tablet will be restored to defaults.
Did this fix your touchscreen issue? I haven't experienced it yet but its good to know if it did.

Hi,
My MDA3's power button (on/off) stopped working!! Pressing the button does NOTHING!!! I had locked all keys except the power button, since the power button stopped working, the ONLY way i could turn device on was resetting it!!!!
I have tried upgrading ROM etc, but the power button still wont work!
Can anyone please help me with this?
How did you enter bootloader to flash the rom, is the power button not needed on the mda3 to enter bootloader.?
....
interestingly enough i was able to reset the device by just using the reset pinhole, even the hard reset they say by using recorder+power+reset i was able to do with out the power.
It sounds like you have a hardware problem rather than software, I'd send it back & get it swapped before the warranty runs out if I were you.
We've had four units fail with dodgy buttons, you might even find that it's one the other buttons that is stuck in the pressed position thereby preventing use of the power button (try the sound recorder/camera buttons).
..
I was able to fix this problem by opening the phone, cleaning it with compressed air and putting it back together. I suspect this fixed the stuck button somehow.
I had simmilar problem. There must have been garbage in the button, as I noticed that it did not have the same 'click' feel to it when it stopped working. Luckily my phone was still under warranty, and I swapped it out (ugh)

startup bug
hi
when i take the battery out and put it back in the same thing happens i have tried to press in the two buttons and pressing the stylus in the hole but it wont hard reset.
kevin
Did you tried bootloader mode and then flash again the rom ?
how do i do that. i took the memory card out and it rebooted.

To do a hard reset.
Press both soft keys and insert stylus into soft reset button and press.
Release the soft reset button and keep pressing the soft keys.
When the "This operation will delete all your personal data, to manufacturer default" appears on screen.
Press Green call button to restore manufacturer default, or press other keys to cancel.
The bootloader is invoked by pressing down the Power and Voicedialer buttons simultaneously, and using the stylus at the same time to press the RESET button at the left side. Continue pressing the two buttons for a few seconds after pressing and releasing the reset button until the bootloader screen appears.

After devunlocking last night, now my phone is messed up
The problem is the back, windows and search button no longer work, the portion of the screen that they take up is now like an extension of thescreen it just selects stuff as if it were at the bottom of the screen. Any help to reset all the files in root to factory, I tried to hard reset and soft reset.
Maybe I screwed up the registry or some files. Thanks for any help
try factory reset. hold camera + volume down + power. when phone vibrate release power button while holding the other 2 buttons. should prompt you to reset your phone. hope that works
Thx
I tried that but it enters USB Host mode, I also tried holding down up and down volume and power button to reset which resets it but doesn'tfixmy problem. it's acting like the part of the screen where the windows, search and back button are are now part of the regular screen and those 3 buttons no longer do anything.
This sounds rather like a hardware error. Your calibration of the touchscreen is messed up. I suggest you send it in. You still should have warranty?!
Btw. I don't think this has a connection to unlocking the phone!
If the phone hasn't been tampered with physically, it should be enough to just sync it without re-unlocking it, and it should be locked again.
Thx
I got a new one on the way. I didn't delete any files or regedit a bunch of stuff just a standard dev unlock and it started acting squirrly.
OK, so my little 9 year old brother got the Acer Iconia Tablet A100 so he wouldnt feel so left out that everyone else in the household has a tablet but not him, well he thought he would be smart and turn off the wifi and place a lock on it. Well he forgot the lock code and after many attempts he has to login with his google credentials, but the problem is that the wifi is off so it wont fix anything. So im trying to format it for him, I can get to the recovery screen, but only the volume buttons will work and the no other button will let me confirm the selection. Dose anyone know what i can do?

5 Release the Volume down button and stop switching the rotation lock once the "Erasing Userdata..." message appears in the upper left corner of the screen
6. Once the factory reset has been completed your tablet will load to the Welcome screen.
7 Your Factory Data Reset has completed now follow the onscreen steps to setup your tablet.

Hard reset the tablet, you'll lose everything, but it will revert to factory condition.
Power off the tablet
Hold Volume + (the one furthest from the power button/ lock switch, right if holding landscape)
While holding Volume + press and hold the Power button
Once it turns on, holding the Volume +, release Power and wiggle the lock switch up and down a few times.
Screen will then say its formatting or resetting or whatever it says.
After this completes, it may reboot, or power off, or continue booting into android, whatever it does, just let it go into android
It should greet you with the Welcome screen for setup.
Resume playing with it.
Edit: Ah I was gonna link a youtube video but Romman0 beat me to it! I must be getting slow in my old age.
Lol, I just happened to be on.
I was editing a bunch trying to get the [tube] code to work (to no avail) and added text instructions.

Can I do a hard-reset once I have unlocked bootloader & installed a custom recovery? Is there a way to go back to stock recovery?

You can still hard reset yes but it only erases user data nothing else.
If you want to go back to stock use one of the update.zip methods in vaches stock rom thread. It'll go back to stock recovery. If you want just the stock recovery there's a stock recovery.IMG around somewhere I'll see if I can find it.

I don't know what's wrong with my phone, but the screen display is messed up. Sometimes, the screen will display if I keep clicking the power button one-hundred times, but other than that it won't budge. Everything thing else works when I press the power button, the keyboard lights up, the home button and other buttons light, just not the screen. Like I said, I have to repeatedly press the power button so that in a slight chance, the screen might display.
I HATE THIS PHONE! What, do I do?

Need more info.
Can you access the recovery partition and it works fine? Access the recovery partition by powering on the device by holding down: Volume Down, Camera, and Power. Release when the hardware icons light up (down on the bottom: settings, home, back, search). You should see a menu appear after several seconds.
If the recovery partition does work fine have you tried a factory reset?
If it is still problematic within the recovery partition then it is more than likely a hardware issue. Possibly a problem with the power button?
