Sprint Warranty Policy - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hello, I bought an a used epic 4g touch on ebay about a month ago. Now the earpiece speaker blew out. Anyone know if the manufacturer warranty transfers from the original buyer? Would sprint replace my phone with or without a deductible?
Thanks!

Don't mention any of that, take it in and tell them that the earpiece isn't working, I'm sure any competent tech will take care of you.
Do you have TEP by any chance? Because if you have that, you have absolutely nothing to worry about.
if none of this works, call up Samsung and let them know that your earpiece is broken, you'll have to send it in to them.

if you dont have TEP, it should be under Samsung's warranty

TEP will save you $35 for a warrenty repair at a sprint repair center. If you still within 30 days of activating it on your line you can still add TEP to your line. Also dont call customer care or tech to have them do it. Currently all warranty repairs are required to go thru a repair center. Try to go to an actual sprint corporate store. In my experience dealing with stores ones owned by 3rd party's tend to be stingy about ordering/fixing customers phones.

Because we always get call center reps telling customers to come into our stores to get a replacement no charge from stock. Then we get an impatient customer with no TEP expecting to walk out the door with a replacement no charge on something like a liquid damaged phone.
It goes both ways.

i think your cover under you old warranty

What's the ETA for Asurion replacement claims right now?

I accidentally dropped my phone on concrete floor and shattered the screen My claim has been approved yesterday morning, but hasn't shipped yet. I'm wondering if anyone here knows how long am I gonna have to wait to get my replacement? They said up to five days, but I just figured i would ask people here who have already gotten their phones replaced.
They were extremely fast when I had to make a claim. Unfortunately that was the only thing they did good, I got stuck with the phone they sent me even though it was garbage and had a busted speaker.
I have best buy's warranty now since there is no deductible and you can make more than one claim, I havent had to use it though so I dont know if they are easy to work with.

When was that, exactly? Also, you should call them up and demand a new phone. That's unacceptable and they will replace your phone, no questions asked.
wait a minute even after paying deductible u still get a used or a refurbished EVO?

It was around December last year, it was for my old HTC Touch. I had just quit smoking at the time and had to leave the sprint store before I got arrested, I was seriously about to back hand the girl who told me "it wasnt that bad."
I have been compensated by sprint in other ways so I havent left them yet but I just noticed on my new bill they are charging me fees and taxes for Arizona + the state I actually live in. And I have never lived in or even been anywhere near Arizona. So yeah, they are trying my patients.
I've had the same phone number for almost ten years now, great way to treat your loyal customers huh

part of your contract.
asurion is a major insurance provider, almost every carrier. and you are supplied with refurbished replacements as necessary.
Just made a claim for my EVO yesterday. It seems to me that they're too new to be replaced by refurbished models. A couple friends who work at separate Sprint stores seem to think the same thing, but have yet to see any EVO's replaced yet. We will see and I will update when it comes in.
I made a claim Saturday, and it arrived yesterday (Wednesday). Once it was processed, it was overnighted....and get this.....BRAND NEW!
I made a claim on Tuesday (7/27), it was approved on 7/28 & the CC information was taken then as well. I have no idea when my replacement will come but I will also update when I get it.
My current shattered evo still works & I am trying to consider the cracks in the screen a live wallpaper, but thats not really working.
despite what the best buy sales reps might tell you, their insurance gives out refurbs as well. personally i really like refurbs, since your less likely to have problems since the item has now been double/triple checked. my experience with refurbs has been excellent, YMMV. best buy salesman told me sprint insurance deduct is 150 (lie) and you can only make 1 claim a year (lie) and best buy gives you a new phone, not refurb (lie again). i actually have both insurances on my account right now, not sure why. if i break it maybe i can get 2 new (refurb) phones

Why would you want to pay for both insurances?
I learned the hard way about BB insurance - Dork Squad protection only covers manufacturer defects, normal wear & tear, and does NOT cover lost, stolen, physical or water-damaged phones. Nor do they repair your phone on-site in their store (unlike some Sprint stores) - rather, they send it out to a repair center to get it fixed, with a $150 deposit for a p.o.s. loaner phone while it's out for repair, and they will ONLY replace it with a new phone if they deem your phone unrepairable at the repair center. Funnily enough, it took the dork at the Dork Squad counter longer to fill out a repair claim form than it ever did for me to fill out a claim online at Asurion.
Considering BB charges $10/mo for their insurance (which is already covered by Sprint, or whatever phone company, as well as the manufacturer) and a $150 loaner deposit, whereas Asurion charges $7/mo with a $100 deductible for a refurbed phone (although I think Evo's are new, since my replacement was hehe), I wouldn't waste my money on BB's insurance again. I'm still fighting with them to replace a laptop they've fixed 3 times within a year under their dork protection's 'lemon' clause, and they continue to insist my screen was replaced 3 times for different reasons each time...but that's another story lol.
oh, and the ETA for my replacement Evo was about 5 days (claimed on a Friday night, got it on a Wednesday).

Thanks. I thought my replacement was refurb as the store manager was claiming as such. I had to file a Sprint warranty repair since my USB port snapped off the board from normal use.

Never send your phone to Samsung service center to get it repaired

I got my new E4GT on Jan 21, and I fount on 23th that it doesn't receive any GPS signal 'at all'. I guess you guys might have some tweaks to fix this issue but I didn't. So I just sent it to Samsung service center on 24th, which was my biggest mistake.
They recieved my phone on '30th' because they are using UPS 'Ground', which I think is ridiculus for a repair service dealing a product costs more than $500. And it's now Feb 6, and it was still being repaired.
So I called them and asked how long would it take more to get it back, and the representative said 'Another week or two'. Wow. Taking a month to finally use a new phone.
So I called Sprint who I originally talked to when I found the problem. At that time one of the representatives told me to send my phone to Samsung since it's a 'technical issue' of the mobile product of Samsung. I explained how my phone's being taken care of, and they said my phone just could have been replaced without additioanl charge since it has an original defect if I brought it to Sprint store right away rather than sending it to Samsung. What Sprint told me they can do is by the way that only once I get my phone back from the Samsung repair shop and bring it to them, they will be able to take care of it because they need the phone in their hands.
So I called (...) Samsung again to claim my phone back right away regardless of whether it's completely repaired or not. But what the first representative I talked to told me is that 1. there's no way to send the product back to the customer while it's under the repair process because it is related to the liability issue(what?!), so I will need to WAIT until my phone is completely fixed. 2. also there's no way to expedite the shipping process because the UPS 'Ground' is the only way of portal service they are using 'from the shop' to the customers. (I even told him that I'm willing to pay additional charge or anything for that)
That was what he kept arguing until I asked him to transfer me to his supervisor or anyone has higher level authority of support. Although he argued that it would be the exactly same if I talked to anyone else, the higher support representative immediately canceled my repair and sent it back to me throught UPS 2nd day air service.
I'm not sure if it's okay to post this kind of complaining here, but might be helpful for those of you who have repair issues.
DO NOT SEND YOUR PHONE TO SAMSUNG. WHETHER OR NOT YOU HAVE THE TOTAL PROTECTION WITH SPRINT, BRING IT TO THEM.

Unless you bought it used off of Craigslist, why would you not return to the store where you bought it?
Sprint has a 14 day return on new devices, no questions asked.
But yes I agree. Samsung customer service is garbage. As much as I would like the Nexus, I won't buy it as Samsung makes it. I will wait for HTCs next phone.
Your lucky it wasn't Motorola, they would have said were working on an update and hung up.
Sometimes you learn things the hard way, but seriously, assuming you bought your phone at a Sprint store or authorized dealer, and did not take it to a Sprint store or repair center first, especially during the 14 day return period, well ... you already know the rest. Sending ANY kind of electronics back to the manufacturer should be the last resort. I'm at a bit of a loss why you would have sent your phone to Samsung 3 days after you bought it. Sprint cares about you way more than Samsung, and that isn't exactly saying much.
Still, I can't shake the feeling that there's something to this story you're not telling us.
I first contacted Sprint and sending it to Samsung was their suggestion. That's why. Even the Sprint representative I talked to today didn't know why the first representative told me to do that way. That might be the missing point here. After talking to him, his supervisor called me and apologized for the bad advise from the first one. If I knew or heard that it couldve taken care of by Sprint, I would definately have dont that way.
Work at sprint here, yea, withing 14 days we always swap it for you instore. Past 14 days, free with insurance, or $35 without.

Why would you think to try and repair a defective phone within your return/exchange period??
Step 1-Got to Sprint store
Step 2-Exchange phone for brand new one
Step 3-Love new working phone
I'm not trying to be rude, but there is 14 days for a reason

You dont contact Sprint, you take it to Sprint, the store you bought it at or any other store ... I guess you did learn your lesson
I buy all my phones on craigslist or ebay. If I break one, usually I find some way for it to be manufacturer error or whatever (faulty usb connection, faulty screen, faulty keyboard). I have insurance through sprint, so I take it to an authorized repair center(I have 3 in town), and they replace it free of charge because its manufacturer error. Usually I get my replacement device the next day.

I see. Sorry you got bad advice, but sometimes you can get better advice from the drunk bum pushing a shopping cart full of cans and bottles down your street than you do from a service call center rep. Often times they're new, under trained, or just don't give a **** and want to get you off the phone.
If it's any consolation, I guess it's safe to say you learned something through this experience, which is always a positive. I hope you get your phone back soon.

[Q] insurance claim...

So does anyone know if there is a time factor for Asurion claims? My e4gt has had a cracked screen for sometime now and when I started a claim months ago I wasn't able to do it due to sudden financial woes... Anyways I would assume that I should still be able too do so, right? I mean I'm still paying for the insurance .. As of just a few days ago I bricked it... So a busted screen that no longer lights up except for the beautiful blue led seems like they may go together I would hope, lol! Anyone have any info on the replacements? This is my first phone with Sprint and before this I had cricket, you just paid 85 dollars and got your replacement right there...
If you have TEP I'd just take it into a repair center.
Asurions rule ia hat there has to be usage on the device your looking to get replaced within he past 60 daya. so if you swapped to an old phone over two months ago, Asurion wont replace it for the $100 deductible unless you put the phone back on. Try going to a cell phone repair store firat though. 3RD party non corporate stores have leeway if they have the parts. theres also some spots that just repair phones for a fee, regardless of insurance or carrier.

He's quoting you mostly labor then because the digitizer assembly is less than $100 online and it's easy as pie to replace.
confused you trying to fix your glass or get a new phone. If you are trying to obtain a new phone then I suggest you go on Sprints website lookup repair centers in your area and take your phone there first. Give them whatever story you like and see what happens. Then and only then if you can not get them to replace your phone you can go through Asurion or try taking it to a Sprint store and play dumb....
Choices:
Sprint Store: $35 or free replacement
Sprint Authorized repair: Refurb phone in a day or two as long as you have insurance
Asurion: $100
The choice is Yours-----

I kept using the phone but I bricked it a couple days ago. Now that I have a backup phone to use I was wanting to get it fixed.. I will look at the rapair centers though. Thanks for the info!

Samsung Warranty Replacement

I've heard some folks talk about Samsung warranty service. What are the stipulations of doing it through them vs a Sprint corporate store? Also, do you get a new phone through Samsung, or do they send you a refurb?
I am in a process of doing the same thing but I called sprint and they said it's still under warranty from Samsung so they will check it out. This guy did it check

Company policy is to work on rooted devices unless it is a software issue and you are on a custom rom then you need to go back to a stock rom. TEP and asurion are NOT real insurance and insurance laws don't apply to them, it would be just plain fraud, which would be hard to prove since fraud means you did something with the intention to get something more for free by intentionally doing something to get it, ie smashing your phone or microwaving it to get an upgraded device and not a replacement for a malfunctioning/broken device. I work in property insurance and even certain things that are blatantly done to be able to up the value of the claim in the policy holders favor isn't considered fraud. Either way Asurion and TEP are not insurance, insurance law doesn't apply to them which is why they are called device/equipment protection and not device/equipment insurance. In my state (FL) they aren't allowed to use the word insurance in their advertisement or paperwork because the law says they aren't an insurance company are not governed in the same way as insurance companies and never will be because they are a monopoly and there is no competition in prices you have the choice of asurion or nothing and it is contracted through the carrier and not chosen by the customer with a choice to shop for a competitive premium/deductible

Idaho is Similar in calling it the protection plan. But when all is said and done pay for the protection plan is mainly a guarantee that one way or another that we will have a solution for you. Yeah you can go through Samsung but you can run the risk of getting your "Broken" phone back after waiting for 6-8 weeks, with no solution. Usually paying the 35 and doing an store replacement will be easier on the pocket book as well as alot faster 2-5 days at the most. This will also allow you to add the TEP if you want.

The worst part of asurion is they have no QC on what type of refurbs they send out, most of the time you get some kind of crap phone with more problems and aesthetic damage than the one you're having replaced. This is one reason why I don't have asurion or TEP. The other being that all my electronics are covered under my homeowners policy and any portable electronics (cell phones, laptops, PSP, gameboy, mp3 players etc) are covered in and out of the house from loss, theft or damage. I pay nothing extra on my premium and my deductible is $50 per device. If anything happens to my device (no matter what or what kind of device) instead of paying asurion or sprint my money up front, I file a claim with my insurance company, and 3 days later I get a check for the full MSRP of the device less $50. So if my phone is $600 off contract I would get a check for $550 which I can do whatever I want with. I could add my $50 to it and buy a brand new phone or I could cash the check buy a used device and pocket the difference. What makes it even nicer is my insurance payment are direct deposited to my bank account so i don't have to wait for a check to clear, and I get my funds in 12-72 hours depending on the time/day I filed my claim.

Not for both of mine that have been replaced. My tech guy was running CM9 on his personal Nexus S 4g, and I told him mine were rooted and were running a ROM when the problem occurred. The first bricked one I was able to get access to the internal sd card and format it and put stock recovery back on it and the second one had the blue led of death so it didn't matter what it was running.

I mean I don't care personally and I still work on them myself, but the word from above says otherwise. Seems to vary day by day though.

I Might Just be Done with Samsung :(

Usually, I'm the last person to complain about warranty issues but Samsung has literally just pushed me over the edge!
After something went awry with my phone, and my screen cracked from the inside/stopped working, I called them up and they asked me to send in pictures of the damage and was promptly told that the issue would be covered by my warranty. I sent my phone in and awaited repairs but today I was contacted by "Service Absolute", a Samsung authorized warranty service provider; they told me that my warranty was void due to physical damage and that repairs on my device would cost..... get this......
$310.54!!!!
I've asked for my phone back without repairs and I guess I'll be forced to sell it for peanuts
Sorry for the crazy rant, I know there's not much I or anyone else can do about this situation, just needed to vent.

$310.54!!!!

Should have got insurance if you are on contract, covers any kind of damage, stolen or lost for $10 a month added to you phone plan, my gnex might go missing around the same time the new nexus comes out

As someone who works in insurance ( homeowners/renters/auto) I have to say the the prices charged for insurance on a phone are outrageous. The price paid for the insurance for the value of the item being insured is totally out of whack when it comes to phones and is a complete ripoff.
complaining about you cracking your screen and it not being covered?
c'mon now
I guess the irony there is someone joking about faking an insurance claim on a phone, and someone two posts later saying how the insurance costs too much. Guess it's a messed up world all over!
I can't stomach the wasted money monthly myself, figure if the worst happens I'll just replace on my own. It helps having a family plan with an upgrade ready to go if needed in worst case.

I don't mind that it's not covered, I'm upset about the fact they told me it would be based on an initial assessment and worse yet, the cost of repairing it....

Never insure something you can easily afford to replace. Insurance only purpose is to transfer risk to someone else for replacement. When the cost outweighs the benefits then it becomes not worth it.
OP pics or it didn't happen!
