Help CDMA Galaxy Nexus Flashing - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Alright, I have litteraly flashed 100's of ROM's on devices like the Driod Incredible, Original Samsung Galaxy tab and the Asus Transformer. I have flashed 3 Roms on the CDMA Samsung Galaxy Nexus and have been stuck at the GOOGLE boot screen every time. I am rooted and have CWM 5.5.0.4 on this thing. These are the roms I have flashed: GummyNex 0.3.1, Gorilla toro-AOSP-v1 4.0.3 ROM and the CDMA Galaxy Nexus Android Revolution HD (which i got working)
1. I adb push the Rom to my internal SD card.
2. Boot into CWM
3. I do a data wipe/Full factory Reset
4. Wipe cache
5. Wipe Dalvik
6. Mount /System, /data, and /cache.
7. Install Rom
8. Reboot
Can someone PLEASE tell me what I'm doing wrong before I throw this phone at my wall.

Try not using ADB push and using the straight up MTP interface to transfer the rom.. that could have something to do with it imo.
Also, it's not necessary to mount /system, /data and /cache so maybe cutting that out could help..
Lastly, I'm not positive but I think I read something about updating your bootloader if you have trouble flashing roms but don't quote me on that.

SD erases with new rom?

So hey I'm gonna flash a new Rom and I wanted to know if it would format my SD?

Assuming you're rooted with CWM recovery flashed...
Wiping data using recovery will not flash sdcard.
Should you do a factory reset within the OS or explicitly through recovery, only then will it wipe sdcard.
Flashing a ROM on top of what you have (just that) will not wipe SDcard.
Thank you that's a perfect answer.

[Guide] CWM Touch JB Backup/ Restore and Flash new ROM

Thanks to Hobby31 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=2360932) for figuring this out. I have taken his post, and rewritten for ease of reading. Tested and working on (at least) 2 phones so far.
How to restore a Nandroid or flash new ROM with CWM Touch
In CWM Touch Recovery
1. Go to mounts and storage and unmount cache.
2. Make a nandroid. (Going back to mounts and storage, you will see data is mounted and will not unmount.)
3. Go to "advanced" and select reboot recovery.
4. Once phone reboots into recovery, go back to mounts and storage and see that data is unmounted. You may now wipe data, system, and cache.
5. You may now restore a nandroid or flash a new rom.
Recommendation : As noted below, proper wiping matters when switching between roms, particularly from ICS to JB. Use superwipe from Mike (android revolution HD) when moving between roms. http://api.viglink.com/api/click?fo...="0" alt="">&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_13416929577832
If this helped you, hit thanks. Also, thank hobby 31. Thread here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1748049
EDIT 7-19-12 If you say "I've had no issues doing backups and restores with CWM," please ask yourself the following questions:
1. Are you using CWM Touch or non-touch? This is a Touch issue. If you are using the non-touch... you need not read further or report "I have no problems" because this is specifically related to Touch. (Please note I have not flashed the new 6.0 CWR Touch as some people are reporting problems with it also.)
2. Did you do multiple operations in the same recovery session? Meaning did you wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe delvik? Then did you try to flash a new ROM or restore a backup without restarting recovery? The reason this matters is because this issue of data not unmounting seems to happen in Touch CWM after a wipe is performed. You might be able to do one action per recovery session, but doing multiple actions that require data to be unmounted are what borks the operation and leaves some people hanging at the glowing X of "Oh crap I need to boot back into recovery."
Let me know if there are any problems, need for further clarification.
I flashed an older version of CWM (5.5.0.4) Non Touch version so I could flash JB but my SD card would not mount after I did a full wipe. Had to use the Toolkit to flash stock image. Do you know what would cause that to happen? People are saying to use the older version to flash JB and I want to try VanirBEAN ROM but don't want to run into the same SD mount issues.
I have not had any difficulty restoring cwm nandroid backups of other ROMs, or flashing other ROMs coming from V3. Have not had to resort to any of these steps. But I have seen a lot of threads about others having a lot of problems. Just curious if anyone has any theories about why this is?

I flashed the BAMF You Jelly Huh? ROM using the clockwork touch recovery and it worked flawlessly (I did wipe data though)

After talking with others, I think my issue was after flashing the older CWM I did not reboot before moving forward with the wipe. Too chicken to try it again
I think it has to do with the coding in vicious and some of the initial releases of JB roms. Coupled with the data not unmounting at the proper time. A couple people also have mentioned that they didn't do as full of a wipe as is done with the super wipe script, hence why a lot of devs suggest using it to clean out old ics code.
Has nothing to do with Viscious. Same on JellyBelly 3.x Even when moving between JB roms, Data won't unmount when performing multiple operations.
I have flashed all three versions of Vicious' JB with CWM Touch and have not had a single problem. My process is as follows:
-Backup
-format /cache
-format /data
-format /system
-Wipe Dalvik cache
-Flash ROM
-Wipe Dalvik cache
-Reboot
-????????
-Profit
Team win recovery aka twrp. Everyone done says "use non touch recovery" it doesn't matter. Haven't had a single issue using twrp on this phone or any of my previous phones. It works great. Especially with super wipe scripts.

Bingo. That's what superwipe does.
Added link to Mike's superwipe.
Sorry for the dumb question, but ive done a search and found conflicting answers. When you wipe data and cache do you want them to be mounted or unmounted?

I have Touch CWM and I have no problems flashing back and forth between JB and ICS roms and nandroids.
You just have to flash a Super Wipe in between.
I just did this yesterday to test out my MHL adapter. Backed up my JB rom, super wiped, restored my ICS Liquid Rom, tested, super wiped, restored my JB rom.
I think super wipe is key in going between different rom builds. But I've had absolutely no problem using CWM at all. If Super wipe is the answer, then perhaps CWM's Factory Reset option isn't wiping as well as it should.
Flashing a SuperWipe is much easier then having to restart the phone a few times.
I think it may be related to Viscious old versions. Not Sure. Using Jelly Belly now. If you are not having problems, that's great. I used superwipe script. No problems. But, if people want the manual solution without getting errors, then at least we know the above method works. It might not be neccesary now with the newer releases, maybe data will unmount ok.
If anyone wants to test and see if they can restore old backups from ICS w/out doing the above steps (IE the rebooting) and report back, it'd be appreciated. I will be uber busy the next couple days or I'd take the time to backup to my computer before trying.
Would you mind sending me the super wipe script to flash? Or point me to the thread?

I'm running CWMR 5.8.0.2 and I've restored my ICS roms over several JB roms without issue and no use of any sort of superwipe script.

Are you using Touch Based CWMR? Or Standard.
I can confirm even with Jelly 3.6, that after I wipe data, cache, and delvik that the data will then remain mounted and not unmount unless I restart recovery.
This can/does cause problems and messes up operations when people are doing multiple actions in recovery at the same time. You might be able to do one action, such as making a backup just fine. But if you are using CWMR Touch, you might have issues with doing multiple operations in the same recovery session, like, backup, wiping, then restoring if the action you are doing requires data to unmount.
So, if you say "I have no problems..." please confirm that you are using touch recovery... not just standard.
CWM Touch was updated to 6.0.0.5 this week, is this issue still present? I haven't experienced any problems yet using CWM Touch, I'm just curious.
My steps are 1. Backup 2. Wipe data/factory reset 3. Wipe cache partition 4. Wipe Dalvik cache 5. Flash ROM 6. Flash GApps if needed 7. Reboot

[Q] Galaxy Nexus Complete Wipe

Hi everyone!
My Galaxy Nexus has become slow over the last year, I think due to several factors and trash that's been accumulating onto its memory.
I would therefore like to bring it TOTALLY back to where it was when I switched it on for the first time, consequently deleting all data on it.
I have to mention that the phone originally had ICS 4.0.4 and was updated to JB 4.2.2.
I have tried to read a bit about the topic and found out there are many options; but as those solutions also involved the flash of a new ROM, thing of which I'm not intrested, I preferred asking here for further explanations or solutions on what is best to do.
I was wondering how effective the "Factory data reset" that the phone offers under the "Backup & reset" menu of "Settings" is. In particular: does it delete all the data (Cache, personal, as well as apps) or does it leave something behind?
Also, I've read things about CWM, which seems to be the most apt tool for wiping. (I haven't installed it, and do not plan onto; I've only run it temporarily).
If someone could explain me what the following (and particularly the last 3 [such as Dalvik?]) do exactly, I would be very grateful.
Wipe Data/factory reset
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik-Cache
Wipe Battery Stats
Format /system
Also, when I format, will I get the version of Android I had originally (ICS) or the lastest I updated to (JB)? In the latter case... Did the phone store (hence occupying memory) all the versions that were downloaded in between?
Should you have better ideas on how to achive what I need, please let me know.
Thank you!
Anybody willing to help?!
what carrier do u have for your galaxy nexus?
OP,
1) factory reset in the menu in android will wipe everything off the phone, but will not return the phone to the original rom of when you got it.
2)
if you have stock recovery
Wipe Data/factory reset - wipes all data/apps from the phone (including stuff on /sdcard/ )
if you have a custom recovery
Wipe Data/factory reset - wipes apps and app data off phone, leaves /sdcard alone
Wipe Cache - wipes cache
Wipe Dalvik-Cache - wipes davlik cache
Wipe Battery Stats - deletes the battery stats file
Format /system - formats the /system directory ( you will not have a OS after this )
3) the phone will not go back to a previous version of android unless you flash it. end of story.
i decided to go back to 4.1.2 after using 4.2.2 after a few months, and many disappointments later. i ended up downloading factory images for 4.1.2 and the old radios. and then used my older verstion of the Galaxy Nexus ToolKit to flash everything back. it was painless and fast. But I have stayed on AOKP, so i'm unsure how else you will be able to go back fully "stock."
Get a stock rom ,flash .

I do have a stock recovery, but I could temporarily run CWM through mskip's tool: there should be no problem I believe.
Also, if I run "Format /system", and therefore have no OS, how am I supposed to act later? Get the stock ROM from Google and flash it through mskip's tool (in this case, could I do it through the Stock Recovery or I imperatively need CSW?)? Or there is another partition with a backup that I could use?
Further, do you think that formatting the /system folder is pivotal for a complete clean or it just adds the hassle of reflashing?
Just for curiosity:
How will deleting the battery stats affect my phone/battery life, if it will?
What exactly is Dalvik-chache?
Thank you all!

It wipes your stats from your previous ROM ,so when you flash another ROM you get a completely different stats ,so you might get good battery or not depends on ROM/kernel

1) if you wipe /system, you need to flash the system.img again.
2) you dont need cwm or a toolkit to flash the system.img from google
3) whenever system.img is flashed, it wipes what was there anyways.
4) deleting battery stats does nothing other than remove the log file (which is the battery stats file)
5) use google for dalvik. its all over the place there
6) STOP USING A TOOLKIT. - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895

[Q] Tricky Google Galaxy Nexus Question

Hi all!
I have been a long time lurker and this is my first post. I have a rather confucing question about my Samsung Galaxy Nexus
I am rooted, and was recently running CM10-whatever the latest is
I got sick of it (mainly because of the stupidly slow GPS lock times), so I wan't to switch. Xenon HD seems to be gettinga lot of praise, and stability is what I prize most in a rom, the second being speed.
I have TWRP 2.5 installed.
What I used to do in the past (with previuous phones) When switching roms was to place the rom file and gapps in a neat little folder on my Laptop.
I would then boot the phone into recovery, do a full wipe (when switching to a new rom) and factory data reset, and then wipe data/dalvik just for good measure
Then I would pop my phone into USB storage mode while still in recovery, and just move my Rom and Gapps zips to my phone.
When I did this, I had AmonRa's recovery installed, NOT my current recovery (TWRP)
PROBLEM:
I need to do a factory data reset when switching from CM10 to Xenon, but when I do the factory data reset, it erases the rom and gapps file I was planning on flashing......womp womp. As far as my research tells me, TWRP does not support USB storage mode, and will not let me just use the phone as a USB drive and simply move my rom and gapps zip from my desktop to the phone (like I used to do).
I know that I can use the sideload feature, but I would prefer not too, as I am not so good with ADB terminal, and don't have a lot of free time to re-learn what I have forgot. I essentially just need to know how to get these zip files onto my phone, and perform a factory data reset (without erasing them)
Or else, if I have overlooked some form of USB drive support while in TWRP, please enlighten me!
If anyone could just tell me how they go about avoiding this silly little issue I would greatly appreciate it, thank you!
You should be able to factory wipe without wiping the internal memory that has your ROM and gapps on it. when wiping in twrp, only wipe cache, dalvik cache, and data....that's what a factory wipe does. Don't select internal memory and it won't wipe what's on the internal "SD card"
I haven't used my computer to flash Roms in ages...just download the ROM and gapps to the "SD card"....if factory reset is wiping that then something is wrong with your recovery

Hey don't feel bad.....I don't even think I remember how to use adb anymore

Using adb is just as flashing a ROM through a custom recovery: once you really know how to do it, you'll never forget it .

[Q] Is my device bricked? Is there how to fix? Help me, I desperately need your help

I was trying to install android 4.4 (kitkat) on my T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S III (SGH-T999L) and accidentally deleted the back-up I had just created. While trying to flash the new ROM, I get the "status 7" error. I also tried the "toggle signature verification", but still the same error. In the tutorial of how to make it I had followed the instruction and had, perhaps as mistake now, formatted all data on the CMW menu (cache, system, data/factory reset, dalvik cache) I had my device hacked, and previously installed Clockwork 6.0.4.5.
I am stuck on boot screen.
My flash count says 5?
I do not know if this helps address any further help, but in the mount/unmount menu I have;
cache is mount
system in not mount
data is mount
storage/sdcard1 is mount
Flash your firmware with Odin. Should take care of that.
Thanks. Working now. Seems like I installed the kernel? And it worked.
