Phone won't turn on anymore - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

i was trying to update the ROM of my phone to 2.3.6 manually using ODIN3, but it didn't work because i didnt have the correct PIT file, it said write operation fail in ODIN. I made a thread about getting the PIT file but now my phone won't turn back on!
what do i do?

Pull the battery out and let it sit for awhile. Try to get into download mode and Odin to recognize it. No pit file is needed to flash this phone only the PDA file which is a tar.md5 file. Should have searched and followed thisguide. hope you can get it working.

I did that, the phone still didnt turn on. but when i plug my phone into the computer, device loaded up (without drivers), it is QHSUSB_DLOAD.
I found the QHSUSB_DLOAD driver, but it's stuck installing the driver, what's going on?

Do you have a G2x data cable? Hold volume keys and plug in. Or buy a jig cable that's a life saver.

found this post.

i found a driver and installed it on windows, i managed to get my phone detected in ODIN, so i tried to flash the 2.3.6 rom into it, now it's on doing "setupconnection.." in the message but wont do anything. It doesn't seem to be sending the rom either.
should i be sending something else at this point?

Which ROM are you using? You should just try a stock ROM and stock kernel first.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

i used the 2.3.6 that is the update of the default 2.3.5 stock ROM. I can't find the 2.3.5 stock ROM in the other forum.

I don't see anything on the screen even when i hold the 3 button combo. But i am trying to flash it with the 2.3.6 ROM. so far it's just sitting there on setupconnection... in ODIN
the USBJig site said as long as there's something on the screen it should work. but i don't see anything on screen.

Have Odin running before connecting your phone. Pull the battery off the phone and connect the USB cable to computer and phone. Hold Vol+ and Vol- and plug the battery back in. Keep holding the volume keys until you see something on the phone screen or if Odin changes.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

i plugged the phone in without a battery and odin detects the phone (at least COM9). i put the battery in while holding the 2 volume buttons but phone nor ODIN changed.
if i hold the power button for 5 seconds COM port disappears but reappears when i release the button.
do i need a PIT file? because when it first screwed up i used a PIT file along with the 2.3.6, and it gave me a write error, and this is when the phone died.
the pit file i used is something called u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4.pit (i probably shouldnt have used this)

I'm out of ideas........sorry.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

i think i can use samsung warranty to get another phone, but i would really like to fix this so if i screw up again i can fix what's wrong here... that and it will be a solution others can try
could i have messed up something when it loaded the PIT file? maybe i can get the correct pit file? or a bootloader?

I can tell you for a fact from experience that is a hard brick and nothing is going to fix it sorry
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

sigh i guess i am going to send it in, i personally didnt expect to hard break it so bad so easily

alright samsung send me back the phone with PBA replaced (main board i guess)
it has 2.3.6 in it but i have a CWR backup of my old 2.3.5 from before all this trouble.
Hopefully i can restore that no problem!

[Q] Firmare upgrade encountered an issue - Am i done for?

Yes, i'm a total noob, sorry everyone. I tried to root my T Mobile Galaxy S2 using the Kies/Odin method, and now i'm getting nothing but a screen that says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again". I would happily follow those directions, but now Kies won't recognize my device?!?!? I also can not get back into download mode. I have no idea what to do. Is there anyone out there that can help?
Can you still turn your phone on and use it?

Hey I was wondering if u can help my friend out it seems like u were trying to be nice but here's his story he was trying to root his phone I don't know what method but it dud require Odin and some file called Hercules witch I think is cwm but I don't know were he went wrong but now when he tries to boot up it takes him to a black screen that says in red writing Odin mode..product name sgh t898, custom binary: no , current binary Samsung official and below all that there is a phone and yellow warning symbol with it saying firmware upgrade encounter an issue. Please select recovery in kies and try again

All you need to do is flash it using Odin. Grab the stock rom from the general forum of the galaxy s2 and flash it using Odin.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
Did/does Odin recognize the phone? If it does then go ahead and flash the stock Odin firmware package and that should take care of the problem. Same thing happenend to me and all you need to do is set everything up just like normal, go into DL mode and give Odin a few seconds to find a com port and hit start...just pretend the warning is not there.
I have the same thing ...
I was doing a stock upgrade through Kies, and my computer decided to be dumb and install a windows update and restart the computer... I now see the same thing, i had the stock rom, but it was rooted, and when I try to go back in Odin, it never recognizes the phone... Kies won't recognize the phone, neither will Odin... Am I just returning this phone or what?
EDIT: Nevermind, I only bought it 2 days ago, so I just exchanged the phone
Yes, you can flash from that screen -- I managed to brick my Vibrant that way a number of times, and as long as you get that screen (or the Android digging screen) it's recoverable. KIES should be able to recover it as should Odin -- if it DOESN'T work turn OFF the computer (all the way off) and restart it then try again.
Samsung's USB drivers have a habit of getting confused and causing flash failures both in KIES and Odin.
Be aware that if you're trying to use KIES and the "latest" firmware is a non-wipe firmware (as the updates from T-Mobile are) it will happily load onto the phone something that will bootloop into the stock recovery and refuse to start! If you get hosed like this you probably need to Odin back to the ORIGINAL firmware so you get a "full" flash, then use KIES (or ODIN) again to perform the update.

Were you able to exchange your device? And if you did, what did the T-Mobile reps ask you? and what did you tell them? I ran into the very same problem. I tried everything but I'm still stuck on that screen. I don't want T-Mobile to think I purposely did something to make the phone that way.
Hope I'm not too late to help: I had same problem and used odin to fix.
Here's what I did:
Download stock kernel in tar form from the Android devel forum. Start odin, click check box in PDA, click PDA button then select the kernel you just downloaded.
Insert usb into your phone (I left my cord connected to my computer). Start phone in download mode (up+down keys). Once it's started ib DL mode, unplug the usb cord, then after just a few moments plug it in again. If necessary, let it set a few moments until Odin recognizes the device (yellow stripe in id:com to the upper left), now click start in odin.
That fixed my problem. After that I read and reread everything I could get my hands on, but I think I tried flashing a i1900 kernel.....big duh to me, but maybe I'm not that dumb after all!! But, soon after I was able to root, and have flashed several custom ROMs since my little bump in the road.

Took mine to a store, they didn't have any white kits in stock so they told me to call and tell them that it doesn't turn on, got a replacement ordered without having to troubleshoot over the phone.
Had that happen the first day I got the device trying to root up. Accdently pulled usb while updating. All i did was Hold VOL UP + DOWN And Plug usb in and download mode came right back up and started the process all over again.
It was a success as.

we don't have ICS... so I'm not sure if you're in the correct section. is your phone's variant the t-mobile t989 hercules s2?
don't do anything with kies, go to download/odin mode and flash a fresh download of whatever you messed up on... or I would just flash a complete stock ROM.. the ones ending with ".tar.md5".. that should save your phone.

[Q] phone identified as i9100 and no wifi or ODIN support

hello all
title says it all
My friend has a d710 and the phone identifies itself as i9100 in the boot screen and download mode and settings -> about phone (2.3.4 kernel JPKI1, build jpkpi1)
my pc refuses to see it in ODIN and the phone is not rooted so i cant try to use mobile odin to force flash a proper d710 rom.
not sure what was done to the phone. (i mean even if he force flashed an i9100 firmware on it, i certainly dont expect it to boot into android.
can somebody help
thanks
For Odin do you have the proper drivers for it? Did you try a different cable? Maybe a different USB port? Also when you flash a custom kernel, the boot screen will have the international logo with the yellow triangle.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
i installed the latest USB drivers and they seems to be working fine
i changed cable and port but it didnt change anything
i tested odin on a Galaxy note and it worked fine. so its not the pc
Did your friend flash an international ROM?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
probably
apparently he took it to a local shop but he has no idea what they did to it. all he knows is that wifi doesn't work anymore.
i think he took it to a shop and they probably force flashed an i9100(GSM) firmware on this thing but it somehow failed midway or after flashing the kernel portion. which left iit in an odd state where its broken but with the ability to boot to the OS.
im sure that this can be fixed if i can flash a normal d710 firmware on the phone but ODIN does not see the phone when i put it in download mode
Is it only not seeing the phone when its in DL mode? have you tried when the phone is on, hook it up to the PC and under device management (start menu search, device management) right click on the USB drive, should show device with yellow triangle, update drivers via search online. Maybe bacause it is the GSM firmware it may need different drivers for odin. Im also assuming the you are trying to use sfhub's one-click odins?
i tried to use both ODINs same problem
in the contol panel i see 3 "android composite ADB Interface. two of which have the yellow triangle. making it go to online to download the updated driver, returns "windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date"
btw. i used a real i9100 on the PC and odin sees it just fine
I found some stuff on it.

its for the galexy nexus but similer situation. may shed some light on the subject.
Can you get into CWM or is it completely stock? I would see if your friend can take it back to the store that "fixed" it and ask what exactly the did to it. Also do you have a jig? that would force it into DL mode.

Silly question but can you pull the battery and see what model it shows on the sticker? Just curious because I have heard of people flashing i9100 builds on our phone but thought it usually results in a bootloop.

ohh i already have kies (and the samsung phones USB drivers) installed. my PC connects just fine with a N7000(gNote and SGS2-i9100) just fine.
please note that the D710 is identifying itself as i9100 in the download mode screen!!??
I saw you said you had the right drivers (I assume you mean for the SPH-D710) I have heard of some people having luck when doing that kind of thing by installing the drivers for the phone they flashed onto their epic touch. (In your case the i9100 drivers)
Note: I am not responsible if doing this destroys your phone, usb, computer, or anything else.
All epics say i9100 in download mode.. why don't you try removing the drivers... and using heimdall, sounds like your drivers are messed up since you have some yellow triangles...
If there any wrong phone flashing going on, it wouldn't boot.

Nope, i was just reading the first thread on this forum about a guys' wife's phone thats bricked, and thats pretty much what mines doing.
When phone is powered off with battery in and plugged into PC - No LED light, no charging.
Wont power on - cant get into recovery.
Can get into odin mode
wont recognize it while in odin mode tho "USB device is not recognized" (on all 3 USB ports on my laptop, as well as a different laptop)
Cannot get it to get into odin mode without a battery in it.
Ive held down the power button with the battery out 3 separate times - nothing
Im not terribly worried because best buy will just order me another one since it doesnt turn on, but id still like to try something new
I have an Epic Touch that im restoring as well, Odin recognizes that just fine simultaneously fwiw
/*Edit
I let it sit for about 25 minutes and i plugged it in and Odin recognized it just fine the first time, however Odin says its stuck on Initialization

[Q] Problems with ODIN recognition

So it seems that ODIN can only recognize my phone if the phone is powered on and running but will not recognize it in download mode. I am using the same cables I have used in the past as well as the same computer running Windows 7. Running stock ICS FH13 Unrooted and trying to root but cannot because once I enter download mode, ODIN stops seeing the device. Have tried re installing drivers many times and all USB ports on the computer with different USB cables. Hoping that somebody has a suggestion for getting the phone to be recognized in download mode for me.

Some more information. Turns out the phone (originally my friend's) needed to be taken in for service and when he did this he read somewhere about the USB jig to remove the custom binary counter. When he did this he flashed a gingerbread bootloader to use the jig. Only thing is, he didn't ask me for help (I've usually helped him out with this stuff in the past) and I think he flashed an international version of the bootloader. Reason being when I boot the phone it says Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100 where it should not have that last part. I remember reading somewhere about this and how it happened to somebody but they had CWM recovery and flashed a special zip. I do not have this option because of the stock recovery and unrooted ROM. Just wondering if there is anything that can be done to reverse this. I can run the phone and use it still but would rather root it and continue the way I have always done with my past phones.

Yes, I go from full power off with USB unplugged and press and hold the power and vol down keys until I get the warning screen. I then hit vol up to continue and then plug in my phone to the computer.
With further research seems as though I am hosed. In download mode it lists my device as "product name: GT-i9100" where it should say "product name: SPH-D710" Still hoping someone can save me so I'm not stuck on stock but seems as though this device had a international phone's bootloader flashed onto it.
