Is there an app that can display notifications and turn on the backlight when a SMS or Email comes in - When the phone is locked?
Every time a message comes in, I have to press the power button, put in my passcode, and go to the message just to see what it is.
It would be nice to get a Pop-up on the screen with most of the info
For previous Samsungs, there was an app called NoLED, which would light up the screen for notifications. You can see how that is developing for the Nexus.

NoLed works. I use it and light flow together. I never miss a notification now

You may want to try smspopup. It displays a popup when you receive a text message..
However, I'm not sure if it will display over the lock screen when you have a passcode enabled. However, it has a ton of options for managing the popup when locked, so you may want to check it out.

Does NoLed need root? :>
I did a little digging around and found NotifierPro to work best for me.

I'm loving my Galaxy Nexus. Stock 4.0.2, not even rooted!
I was hoping XDA could help with a few minor ICS problems I'm experiencing:
1. What's with the Phone Application theme not matching the People app?
2. How do I activate the screen when I receive SMS or have an Calendar appointment reminder? I love (!!) the Notification LED and with Light Flow but sometimes it can be annoying not seeing the real pop up on the screen. (I'm using a 4 digit pin code, if that helps).
3. How do I stop the unlock button hanging up on an incoming call? I find this happens A LOT to me and really annoys me off. I don't know if this is expected behaviour but the unlock bottom silences the ring tone and blacks he screen. Pressing it again to bring on the screen, and the call is gone.
PS. Google. Please hurry up with the high resolution GMail Contacts =)

1.) This is just how it was designed. You'll have to install a theme in order for the people app to match the phone app (i.e. black + ics blue color).
2.) Not sure about calendar popups, but you can install SMSPopup and it will integrate with the internal messaging app to show a Popup whenever you receive a text message.
3.) Could you be more specific?
Okay so, you can pretty much fix all of this with rooting.
#1 you can install a custom theme, like said above.
#2 You can choose what happens when you get a notification. Any notification, mind you. Not just SMS.
#3 With my AOKP ROM I have the option to choose what the lock button does during a call.
Hopefully this helped.

1. They do match - halo dark and halo light. Go look up android development if you have no idea what I'm talking about.
The rest has being solved by replies before me.
#3. Not sure if this helps, but I have had this happen when I had tasker set up wrong. If you're running tasker, look at all your profiles relating to calls or phone idle.

1. They are meant to be separate apps, hence they have different Holo themes.
2. I've always looked at this as a feature, but oh well, do what the other say and install an app.
3. This happened on my Nexus S, but I haven't noticed it on the Galaxy Nexus yet, locking and unlocking usually works.

1. Thanks. I didn't realize this was as designed.
2. I used to like it, but because it's my work/daily phone I need to be immediately . I just want it as it is right now, but a popup for SMS and Calendar reminders.
3. Thanks, I've tried the settings suggested in this thread and will everyone know.
For high res contact pics, edit the contact on your gnex and attach a new pic. Works fine and looks beautiful. I find that cropping the pic at the top of the head to just below the shoulder looks the best.

I'm on 4.04 currently, 100% untouched. I always thought when you received a sms that the screen would turn on for a few seconds but I'm noticing this is not happening. Is this normal or have I got a problem??
Cheers
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
this is normal, if you want to control your notification led use this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...g.android.lightflowlite&feature=search_result
but if you want your display to turn on use this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.led.notify&feature=search_result
"Sms pop up" on the market will suit your needs.
good day.
You need a different SMS app to enable this. Handcent, chomp SMS, etc. Those will do what you're asking.
There is a reason we have a notification light...tbe sccreen turning on all the time consumes battery

I was dissapointed that not every app can let you choose the color for the notification led, specially Google apps, they all should have the option, I downloaded light flow, but I fins its behaviour erratic, I disabled the led for when its charging for example but sometimes it still flashes it, actually it doesn't flash the led, it stays turned on forever if I don't open the lift flow app, sometimes it stays in forever on too when I have a new message, I even delete the notification and check the message but the led won't turn off does anyone else has issues with it?
Can you recommend a better app?

Works fine for me. A notification will get "stuck" maybe once every few weeks. Other then that it works fine.

LightFlow works absolutley fine for me.
I had something that i mistook for "Phantom-Notifications". The LED was flashing without any notification in my notification-bar.
But i realised, that i have my gmail-app set to only remind me for mails in my priority inbox while lightflow was also notifying me for the normal inbox.
Maybe it is something similar on your phone.
To get my lightflow to work properly i had to go into the general settings and under main led control select 'control - lightflow controls the led' and this seemed to cure a lot of random/erratic flashes.
Where? Under general settings there's no led setting, all I was able to do was tick or untick pulse notification light under "display "

Yes under general settings, if you scroll to the bottom there is an option called 'main led control' and when i tap that it gives me 2 options, first is 'no control - default device behaviour' and the second (which i use to fix issues) is 'control - light flow controls the led'. I hope that helps you find it I do have the paid version however so if you are using the lite version i dont know if the option is there.

Sometimes I'll get no LED notifications until I manually open Light Flow, then it starts working. Kind of annoying. Is there any way to always keep it in memory?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
I had issues to. But there is a setting to clear the notification when you pull down the notification bar. This works best for me. You have to do this for each app though.
Also while charging I put it so that the newest notification would turn on. That way there is no cycling etc.
U have the paid version if you have any other questions let me know.

Found it but it was in the light flow settings, I thought you were referring to the nexus main menu, I already had "lightflow controls the led " enabled

Again in light flow settings there is a tick box to run in foreground, that might help and if you use any kind of task killer make sure you add it to the exclude list
As for OP im not sure what else you can do to make it more reliable, the lightflow control worked great for me. Sorry i cant help any further

I always have that box ticked, but usually have to start the app after rebooting anyway. I didn't know people still used task killers lol.

You're exactly like me, I have the run in background option ticked, what I ended up doing is starting the app every time I turn on the phone (I turn it off every night ) this makes the app behave better, its like it doesn't start correctly by itself

I have no issue with version 3.0.2, but did with newer ones. Im still running 4.0.4
I am wanting an app, that can customise teh colour of the LED for different notifications as well as turn them off when im asleep. I have seen an app called lightflow, is this the best app for the job?
I use lightflow and for me its perfect!
Nice

LightFlow is the best app ever!
You can set led color, frequency, speed, vibration and many more for every apps, for all notifications you need.
Buy PRO version because FREE version don't allow you to use LightFlow for every app, but it works only with a little number of apps...
Does anyone get the issue when using lightflow where the phone speaks to you??. Even if you disable all notifications on the accessibility screen, you still get the voice speaking.
Theres a big thread over on the lightflow devs website...seems like its a bug with ICS.
SAdly i bought it but have uninstalled it as it wont work unless you turn your sound off and personally i dont like my phone talking to me lol.

Yes!!! It took me forever to figure out why it would say Folder is open or Folder is closed, anytime I would open a folder on the home screen.

Unfortunately I was having problems with lightflow; sometimes the LED notification was not stopping regardless of what I did, until a reboot. The talk back thing I got rid of by not having accessibility checked within the phone settings. Sometimes the LED want activating either.
Most promising looking app though.

I also bought the pro. But I get the same issues with the led not stopping blinking. If I swipe a notification to get rid of it and don't actually view it the led just keeps on flashing. I think you press the clear button it works, but as a whole there needs to be some improvements in this app before I use it, all I really wanted was to turn off the led at night! It wakes me up. Too bright ha

Yeah, pressing clear, or entering the app and viewing the message doesn't clear the led for me. The only thing that works is rebooting. But I'm going back to handcent for my messaging and since the pro version supports it I've purchased it too. I just love having the led's for at work, where I sometimes can't hear my phone, but they have to be off at night. I can't believe that a little flashing light can be so annoying at night!

At night you can enable the "sleep setting" under settings, than it wont blink.
Go to Notifications/*AppName*/Clear notification style and select "Screen on", than it will stop blinking after you turned on the screen.

Sigh, for some reason this app doesn't work on my SGH-I747. I mean it does work but it doesn't show up the right colors that I've set up. For example: I choose the missed calls' color as red, but it shows up as blue and the rest are messed up too. Does anyone have the same problem?
The talking phone is very annoying, and i also experience the big orange square when you click on browser that mess my surfing xperience. I hope im not the only one

I have a smartwatch and my beautiful phone has also a notification LED. Considering this, I do not want to use the lock-screen notifications at all.
Therefore, I turned OFF the lock screen notifications from the "sounds and notifications" settings menu but even now, in case of a notification or event, the screen will turn ON briefly. If the phone is in my pocket during that time and I have a trusted device nearby (my smartwatch) then the phone will unlock by randomly swiping the screen with my leg (large shorts ).
For the past few days I pulled out the phone in different languages, or with the tethering hotspot active or other randomly activated settings.
So, the 1000 points question is: how the heck can I force the 10 to not turn on the screen on notifications? I have no root and I do not intend to install one (company policy). Is there any solution? Thx.
Interesting. My screen never wakes up to show me a notification, so I'm wondering if it's app specific? I know with Textra, there's a setting to wake the screen for each text message, but I have that turned off.
It's definitely an app you're using that's turning on the screen.

Thank you guys. It was indeed app specific. After you posted this I started looking in all the settings from all the apps with notifications access. The guilty one was Nils. There was a small switch to turn on the screen, indeed.
Thanks again.
