Bluetooth MAP profile...call to arms! - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Only thing missing from Android devices recently is more compatibility with BT devices using different profiles.
For instance I have a FIAT Bravo car with BT head unit built in. It pairs with the car and makes and receives calls with no issue. However it fails to read text messages due to lack of the MAP profile.
I did some searching and it seems some have stated this code thread has worked.
review.cyanogenmod.com/#dashboard,2210
I just wondered whether any bright spark could help some of us lowly peons and bring this functionality to an already great device?
Cheers in anticipation.

Does any JB ROM have this MAP profile? I tried CM 9.1 and the MAP profile worked but on CM 10.1 this doesn't work.

Android 4.1 ROMs like CM10 should support map. It's not an AOSP feature but many custom ROMs have it.

CM has been tried
So if you could name some of those many other custom roms that would be great

Galaxy Nexus Roms Database

Hi guys,
I just created a site ( http://galaxynexus.roms-db.com ) that lists all the current Galaxy Nexus roms. The site tries to give a bird's eye view of the latest updates of each rom along with links to their threads.
The rom information is automatically refreshed from the "Galaxy Nexus Android Development" thread every 15 minutes.
Let me know how to make it better!!
Thanks. This can be a great resource but I am not sure about its accuracy. For example ARHD is ICS 4.0.2 ROM and not 4.0.1 as reported on the ROM database.
Good work

Is it possible to do this auto-refresh list from the CDMA Galaxy Nexus Developer forums at XDA and Rootzwiki also?

Nice work, thank's
Nice work.
However, I believe you list the date of the last comment, which is not the same with the date when the ROM was last updated. I realize you can't automate that, though.
Thanks guys, I'm trying to keep it up-to-date, I have something similar for the hd2, htc sensation, galaxy s2 and evo4g roms and is going quite well.
Pedmond:
The "Updated" field is automatically updated every time the thread title changes (except when I'm adding new roms which is the date I added them in the list)

I will add CDMA roms in the current list, and have a different type for them

If you do that at least some GSM roms (like CM9 kang) will be filtered out too.
So not entirely reliable.
Again just a note about updating www.roms-db.com with the latest galaxy nexus roms. I'm almost sure that I've missed some as I did it in a hurry. let me know if something doesn't look ok.
Also I have an issue with 'CyanogenMod 9 Kang' and 'Bugless Beast (Nightlies)' roms as the XDA threads of these roms never change titles. www.roms-db.com is based on thread title changes to mark roms as 'updated'. Let me know if you have any ideas to overcome this problem

great site! the listing of the roms is clever! maybe think about adding kernels in the future?
Just letting you know I've updated www.roms-db.com with the latest Galaxy Nexus roms, please let me know if you find anything that needs to be corrected

[DEV REQUEST] Ubuntu Touch port to N7100?

Hi everyone,
As you probably have heard, the Ubuntu Touch (alpha) image has been released for the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, 7 and 10.
I would like to request porting it to our N7100 devices!
If I could I would do it myself but I have never ported anything.. However, if I can help in any way I will gladly do what I can!
For reference:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Porting
Since Galaxy S3 was one of the best-selling smartphone, I hope will be a port for it and consequentially for note 2 that has the same hardware platform
its not the place to Request a port.

big boooi no need to request, the porting instructions just came online and seem as "easy" as building CM from source.
its only natural that ports will be available on most devices.

I am aware of this.. But porting also has it's own malfunctions and problems. By porting an alpha release some of these problems can be solved before the stable release, was my thought

Android 4.x doesn't support media access protocol (MAP). You'll have to hope a developer for CM can implement it, downgrade to cm 10 (someone added it, but it doesn't work in cm10.1), or wait for Google to properly implement Bluetooth.

I don't think so. Everything I've read about features not working over Bluetooth with car features has pointed to MAP (reading of text messages, track info, etc). For all I know, AVRCP may be part of MAP .
OP, the issue with CM 10.1 has been fixed now that a dev looked into it. Should appear in nightlies soon if it hasn't already. There are multiple reports of it working on various cars now.

I see, I remembered about AVRCP because I watched the BT4.0 session from IO2013 where the engineer said something about track info and lack of AVRCP. But I'm not much into the BT area, so I guess that isn't the whole deal. Glad to see it working for you then, hope the same happens with the next Android release :]

Getting Ubuntu Touch out to more users

The unstoppable Sergio Schvezov is working on bug 1201811 right now. Once it's fixed this should put is into a position where users of devices for which we have Ubuntu Touch images (and not just the four devices we supported right from the start) can just use phablet-flash. This doesn't mean that they are "officially supported" or that they're built daily in the Canonical data centre, but that you can make use of the images much more easily.
Over time we still want to build more images in the data centre in a regular fashion. One of the big blockers there has been information about the redistributability of firwmare, blobs and closed kernel modules. If you have information about the licenses any of these, it'd be great if you could help with updating the Touch device pages.
On Thursday, 1st August we are going to hold a Ubuntu Touch Porting Clinic in #ubuntu-touch on irc.freenode.net where you will be able to ask all the questions you have and our local experts can help you with updating your image(s) to the new world order. We hope to see you there!

There aren't bugs in that MobileOS (or I haven't found these bugs) but the biggest problem is the laggy (too much laggy because the kernel isn't optimized for UubuntuTouch). I appreciate the canonical's work and I wish I'll able to use this OS daily

...Not as minor as 4.2 -> 4.3. UI drastically changed (not just the launcher) and they decided to make a universally available Launcher called Google Experience, so you see Google is determined to make KitKat a large step forward.
But yeah, based on this point (universal, unified experience) and Google's saying of "making the best experience for everyone", I can say that we're going to get KitKat in one way or another (I don't personally care if Google decides no official release, AOSP is always there). Plus, who said we need 3.4 or even 3.8 kernels to run it (any RELIABLE sources)? Many older devices run JB 4.1 and even 4.2 nicely with 2.6.xx kernels. Many 3.4, 3.8 and even 3.1x features are being backported too.

Look i don't know about Linux Kernel, etc..
But i just saw that the 3.8 is officially discontinued.
3.4 is continued until October 2014.
So i think the next Kernel version for Android will be the 3.10 (long term: until September 2015) not 3.8.
By the way....a Nexus 5 with 3.10 kernel would be pretty nice. But it seem it will be 3.4.
Source
I remember when 3.0 was released (after the 2.6.39), Linus Torvalds said exactly this:
"So what are the big changes? NOTHING. Absolutely nothing. Sure, we have the usual two thirds driver
changes, and a lot of random fixes, but the point is that 3.0 is
*just* about renumbering, we are very much *not* doing a KDE-4 or a
Gnome-3 here. No breakage, no special scary new features, nothing at
all like that. We've been doing time-based releases for many years
now, this is in no way about features. If you want an excuse for the
renumbering, you really should look at the time-based one ("20 years")
instead."
I post that, only to say that sometimes numbers mean nothing..3.4 is a stable kernel, there isn't a big difference that you can see in the daily use with 3.10..really
Lets pray, for kitkat on our phone..!!!
